On the first night, Equestria: once a land of peace, harmony, and balance fell into disarray with the early loss of light. The youngest princess of Canterlot: Once a shining beacon of hope in darkness, allowed the shadows of her heart to envelop her. She rose over her subjects, taking hold of Trottingham with an iron hoof: Nightmare Moon. The darkest of mares was ready to plunge Equestria into her eternal night, which was feared and shunned by those below. She'd never forgiven the ponies of Equestria for sleeping through her glorious night.
As she approached her subjects, they ran in fear, panicked even, having barely recognized their princess of the night with her sudden change in appearance. As the winds picked up, she dug her hoof into the ground, letting the roar of her voice resound," SILENCE, THOU FOALS!" The winds rose with her royal voice. Many of the citizens of Trottingham froze in fear as she spoke, except for one, who stepped forward, in front of his frightened little sister to protect her. His violet mane fell down his neck, curling messily on the ends. As he lowered his head, glaring, the princess's grin widened.
Nightmare Moon continued," Our most... unfaithful subjects..." Her voice rose venomously as she looked down upon them," YOU WHOM HAVE SHUNNED OUR NIGHTS, WHOM LIE DOWN WHEN THE SUN FALLS, QUAKE IN FEAR! THOU DESERVES NO BETTER THAN ETERNAL DARKNESS!!!" Her voice roared like thunder in her ears as dark clouds circled overhead. The young stallion among the citizens raised his head in reproach, angrily. His little sister: the filly behind him was curled up, trembling in fear. "WHO DOST THOU THINK THOU IST TO FRIGHTEN A FILLY," he spat, stepping forward. "A FOAL IS DISCIPLINED TO SLEEP IN DARKNESS, SO THEY MAY GLORY IN WHAT DAY MAY BRING! Thou approachest us to instill fear?! To take away the light that brings growth and thou expecteth her subjects to celebrate?! Thou art less than a foal should be! Go back to thy mother!" The stallion's nostrils flared as her raised his tail, flicking it.
Ponies around him, looked up in shock by the stallion's reaction. His actions, by their standards were very foolish. Even the great mage feared an alicorn's power.
Princess Luna's head snapped back at the reproach, surprised at the young stallion's bravery. She was amused by this and greatly puzzled, however offended by the reproach," Such courage from the mouth of babes! How old dost thou think we are...? Dost thou think we are but a filly...?" This angered her," Dost thou think thou hast been around longer than us? How long does an Earth pony live in comparison?! WE HAVE SEEN... COUNTLESS GENERATIONS BEFORE THOU, YET THOU TREATEST US LIKE A FOAL?! Do you not know how this land came to be? How over the years, it hast changed it's shape so many times?! "
"We speak for our beloved night... The night THOU has shunned! We are the princess of the night! Many times, we have risen the moon to bring in the night! Not a one of our subjects has paid it heed or seen the treasures our darkness brings the sky! We have wrought, for countless ages, the unseen and unwanted and we have felt... unadored! NO LONGER! WE WILL TEACHEST THOU TO CELEBRATE THE NIGHT!"
"Thou can teachest, but our hearts will not listen," added the stallion as he turned back to his sister. "Thou can not force the darkness upon us!" Nightmare looked down to the only stallion who dared speak up, against his teachings and narrowed her ears with a wicked spat. Her horn lit up. The mighty storms around her intensified as she enclosed her magic around the earth stallion, speaking with disdain," THY JUDGEMENT HATH BEEN DECIDED!!!" The citizens of Trottingham all quaked in fear as they watched. The filly he'd been defending ran to him," STOP! PLEASE! Lemon Drops didn't mean it!"
" SILENCE FOAL," the princess roared as she reared her front hooves, focusing her magic. Lemon Drops could feel his muscles twist and his bones crack as they painfully and forcefully shifted to her own design. The stallion screamed as he began to change. "IF THOU WILST NOT GLORY IN OUR VICTORY, THAN THOU SHALL REMAIN A CREATURE OF THE NIGHT... FOREVER," Nightmare Moon decreed, letting out her wicked laugh as her hoof struck the ground and lightning ripped through the sky. What was left of Lemon Drops when the dust settled was a large, snarling, wolf-like beast.
