THE TUTOR
BOOM! The battle cries were silenced. Every pair of eyes rest upon the rugged remains of their base camp, destored by the bomb launched from their enemy. Some gasped were heard as a lone box shifted and was pushed over revealing a pony. It was their captain, burned and weak, his eyes filled with pain. He limped out of the ground and looked over his troops.
"RETREAT!!!" He screamed, a scream that filled the air, through bombs and shootings, and was heard by ever living being in the war-stained valley. A single arrow whizzed through the destroyed wreckage and hit the captain in the chest.
"No, that won't do." I said, my mind breaking away from my imagination. "An ARROW? With bombs and stuff, no that's not right." I scrunched up my nose in frustration.
I stared up at the top of my bedroom ceiling, trying to decide what would happen. I restfully closed my eyes. I pulled the soft blanket over my head and continued to construct a world of pure imagination. I often did this when I was completely bored, just thinking on my bed, also more or less trying to get to sleep. The sun shining through my window did not help, but it was my fault for choosing the sun room as my bedroom. In this world, I had finally decided on the name of this world, Erenda. I love assigning beautiful names to beautiful places.
My mind had just moved on to focus more on the complex history of the lovely nations, when there was a sharp knock on what I presumed was the door. Thinking nothing of the fact, I snuggled underneath the warm blankets, thinking about trades and dates of assassinations.
I listened as my older brother opened the door with a loud creak. There a few brief seconds of conversation before my mother clomped over to the door. After a few moments, my name rang through the air. Annoyed, I threw the covers off and sat up.
"Who could THAT be?" I asked no one in particular. A thought entered my mind, and my eyes bolted open.
Shoot.
I stood up and rushed to the door and what I had feared was standing in our doorway. My new tutor.
"Hi!" I casually greeted her.
"I assume you are Miss Silverspoon?" she said with a smile.
"Yes, ma'am," I replied. Inside, I was groaning, dreading the thought of wasting my day with this mare. She was a lavender alicorn (I know, know, she's an alicorn, get over it), and from what I heard, she's a bookworm and is horribly nerdy. Still, a smile was plastered on my face, and I intended to keep it that way.
"Are you ready to begin?" she questioned.
"Just about! Let me go get my books," I answered. I turned around and quickly galloped to my room. Once inside, I looked at my desk, which had collected a thin and nearly unnoticeable layer of dust, and began to locate the books necessary for the "occasion."
I grabbed a few books that looked like they might be useful and headed towards my impending doom!
"Gosh, my life is boring!" I thought. I saw her sitting on our lush, baige coach flipping through a Biology book. Mentally sighing, I stuck a grin on my face, slowing trotting to her. "I got the books!" I annouced.
She glanced up at me, and smiled again.
"Ah, yes. Now, I assume you read the first 248 pages yesterday so we will start from there, going over the basics." My tutor explained. What did Mom say her name was? Oh yes, Ms. Sparkle. What kind of a name is that?
"Please turn to the first page and we will begin." Ms. Sparkle instructed. I nodded and sat next to her. I grabbed my Biology book and did as I was told.
"Done." I stated. The tutor nodded and pointed to the first sentence on the page and began to read aloud.
I looked at the clock, 3:20. 'Wow, I'm hungry.' I thought. I looked back at Ms Sparkle and tried to look like I was paying attention. But, alas, I was not. I thought back to Erenda. 'Where was I, oh yes the battle. I guess I could make the Captian survive to tell the tale for himself, but they wouldn't be as amazing. But then-URG! I'm getting tired of that place. Maybe I should move on to another world or wonder what would happen if D.T. found out that I imagined all these worlds like some sort of egghead.' I looked at the Biology book as Sparkle was pointing to something.
"Uh huh." I automatically said. "Why's that?" I mumbled to make it look like I was listening. 'Boy, she uses a lot of hoof motions when she talks.'
My thought pretty much went like that, ocaisionally stopping to say something. At one point I began to contemplate what POV stood for. "Point Of View," I finally settled.
'So if George Washington actually defeats the English army, he should be a tyrant. Wait, that doesn't make any sense! He should be THE best leader EVER! And since they were fighting for independence against a King, it won't make any sense to have him be a King. Maybe something different, like a mayor or a...hmmm, president? That sounds-'
"So how will the lungs react?" Ms. Sparkle asked, momentarily getting my attention.
"Against it?" I guessed.
"Exactly, they will use the...." I started tuning her out again. The interruption brought my gaze to the clock. Whoa, 4:45 already!
I cleared my throat nodding to the clock. She got what I meant.
"Yes, moving on." My tutor pointed to the first sentence...of the second paragraph....of the first page and began to read aloud.
I sighed; it was going to be a long day.
