Brawny Spirit wiped blood from his snout with his free hoof. Everypony knew this would one day happen. The insane people who would occasionally rant about it in the streets. But for it to actually be happening, was unbelievable. Chaos was in charge again, but this time it had nothing to do with the draconequus. Corruption was what caused it this time. Now Canterlot was burning. The flames were blue in color, giving them a deceptive impression. Brawny could do nothing but watch helplessly as the figure in front of him smirked coldly in the night air. The figure was dark, so dark in fact, that they could barely be made out in the night. Their flank was a violet spot with a crescent moon in the center. The pony was an alicorn, and a tall one at that. An armored helmet covered their head, but still allowed their large mane and horn to show. The most intimidating part, however, was the alicorn’s eyes. The pupils were black slits, like a dragon’s, but the iris color would best be described as ice. This monster was formerly the one who controlled the night. Princess Luna.

Luna was gone, all that stood now was Nightmare Moon. Brawny tried dragging himself closer, but his hind legs wouldn’t allow him out of pure pain. They were both broken by the former princess. There was nothing he could do as Nightmare Moon approached his children. Every foal was in a similar condition, immobilized and helpless as she approached them.

“I beg of you, powerful one, do not do this,” Brawny pleaded. Nightmare Moon kept moving, an intense atmosphere of evil following behind her that gave no intention of mercy. She finally reached the first foal and looked down on it.

One by one, she murdered the foals, each way more brutal than the last. Every loss of life killed Brawny inside more, until all inside him was pure hatred. Nightmare moon quietly trotted up to Brawny. However, she stopped, looked down upon him, and whispered something into his ear.

“Never forget what thy hast observed, and always remember what thy hast taken for granted.”

With a strong flap of her godlike wings, Nightmare Moon rose into the dark sky, disappearing from Brawny’s sight forever. Her words, however, would stay. He would never forget, and neither would generations to come.
