It's not that they were bad children, they just got the worst of luck. Like the time Sara got all of the icky flavors of jelly beans while her friend got the tasty ones. Or the time there was a perfect fish that Jack almost caught, except for that it flopped away while a bird pooped on his head. Or the time they got whisked away to a world they barely new about and almost died. But I'm not here to tell about the booger-flavored beans or a sparkling fish with a crown on its head. It's the third story that's the most interesting.
Sara had gone over to Jack's house for a moment to pick up something she forgot. His mother had let her in. As she walked through the familiar halls, she saw Jack's little sister watching that show again. My little pony, my little pony... she sang in her head, chuckling a bit. But to her surprise, Jack was on the couch, engrossed. "You like this show?" She asked, laughing a bit as she said it.
"Hey," he said playfully. "I just started watching it. It's not half bad if you think about it."
"Yeah, whatever. I'm just here to pick up my lucky pen. Where is it?"
"I put it in the divine drawer of wonders," he said spookily, waving his hands around. "Lets get it."
They went up to his room after Jack told his mom that his little sister would have to be alone for a second.The lucky pen was indeed in the drawer, but it looked different somehow. Before picking it up, however, he noticed Sara scrolling through his tabs on his computer. "What the heck are you doing, Sara? I need that for my school project!"
"Sorry. But this one's cool." She pointed at it and began to read. "If you pick up a certain artifact, you and anyone near you will be transported to another land. When you come back, you will have eternal luck. But if you go to a place with a different flow of time, odd things might happen. If say in your world a lifespan is for them ten minutes, you will have a century before you must go back. But if the opposite is true, you will have ten minutes before you must go back. There are two worlds, however, where a portal is not readily available. It is in those worlds that you will die at the end."
Jack snickered. "What an ominous tale. Too bad it's not true. Eternal luck my ass. Anyway, here's your pen." He grabbed it and picked it up... But wait, was that the right pen? He wasn't sure anymore. It might have been the one he never used, that another person had left there. He had held it with gloved hands and accidentally left a note saying something about giving it to "Jack Barner." But he was Jack Garner. It didn't matter anymore, though. The damage was done. Where the heck did this wormhole lead to.
