Chapter 1 : A Day In The Life of a Circus Mare
The sun's long warm rays stretched over the beautiful green hills of Equestria. Light shed across the countryside, coming across the grand town of Filly Delphia. Just outside the town stood a large red and white striped circus tent. The only pony awake in the tent was a dark blue mare named Blue Moon. She was tying her shiny white mane back in a bun, pulling down a couple curled strands. She let go of them, and they curled up over her ear. She smiled in her mirror, giving a contented sigh and heading out into the empty showring. She stretched her blue wings then flew up to the tightrope. She poised herself, looking up and raising her hooves. Lifting one leg, she balanced her back off on her other hind leg and lowered her arms, still looking up at the roof of the tent.
She rehearsed her tightrope performane nurmerous times before the other ponies were up and awake. They also started to perform their tricks, but they loved to watch Blue moon, becuase she was the star of the show. Even though they saw the routine every day they would still gasp at her amazing sense of balance, as she did hoofstands and cartwheels along the thin rope. She was practising extra hard today, because Sapphire Shores, the pony of pop was visiting with her younger brother Compass. Compass wasn't considered famous, but he had mares crawling over him, only using him to get closer to Sapphire. Of course, Compass new better than that, but Blue Moon thought he was a backstabbing idiot who used mares.
The ringmaster gave them a motivational speech to do their best for Sapphire's enjoyment. They all nodded, getitng behind the big board with all the acts carved into it. The first act was the pony carriage. 4 white mares with crystal blue manes, decorative feather headbands began to gallop simultaneously, pulling behind them a beautiful golden carriage. Ontop of the carriage was another pony, a grey stallion with a tuxedo, top hat and eyeglass. The audience clapped for them, some of the cheekier stallions giving the mares a attractive whistle. They didn't mind, they liked attention- especially from the stallions.
After a couple more acts it was Blue Moons turn. She was lowered down from the wires. She was was on the rope she unclipped the wires, even though she had the option to keep them on, Blue Moon always liked to psuh herself that little bit further. plus, if she fell she could just fly and pretend it was all part of the act. Infact there was a part where she fell off, at the very end she poses with her head up and arms up too, this time her legs cross over and she's on the tip of her hooves and she falls back, spreading her wings out as soon as she reaches the ground, lands and bows. She was the ending act, the grand finale. Once she landed there were cheers from the audience. Blue Moon looked up, spotting Sapphire and Compass in the front row, with a couple security guards.
Compass was watching her with big blue eyes, his mouth dropped from the way she performed. Then, the other acts came out and bowed too, then a curtain was drawn over them. They moved out of their bowing positions and ran backstage, the ringmaster taking their place.
"Thank you ladies and gentleman, thank you! Now, before we finish off today we have a very special guest.." As soon as he said that, Blue Moon looked at where Sapphire previously was. She was now gone.
"Please welcome to the stage, Sapphire Shores!" The yellow mare stepped on stage and began to sing with her sensational voice. She heard a male voice behind her and rolled her eyes. She turned around to see Compass, standing there smiling.
"Hi! My name's-"
"Compass" Blue Moon interrupted him. "Yeah, I know"
"Wow! How did ya know?!" He grinned. Blue shrugged.
"Oh, you know, there's some rumors going around that you're a backstabber." Compass' jaw dropped. Blue turned to face the stage again. "And I don't talk to backstabbers"
After that, Compass walked off. When Sapphire was finished, he told her what Blue said. Sapphire went over to Blue, towering over her with an angry expression. Blue backed down, ears flat. She bit her lip.
"Hey..Sapphire...." She smiled shakily.
"Okay, Blue Moon, you're amazing and all but that DOESN'T mean you can talk to my brother like that!" She snapped. Blue looked through her legs. Everypony was staring at them. Blue looked back up at her.
"Could we take this into privacy?" She asked her. Sapphire looked at the ponies and nodded. Blue led her to her trailer. Compass followed, but Sapphire stopped him.
"Wait there honey, I'll tell her" She smiled and turned back around. Blue sat on her comfy chair after dragging one over for Sapphire.
"I'm sorry Sapphire...I thought he was a-"
"A backstabber, he told me. But you must know this, he isn't like that" Sapphire said in a much softer tone. "Every mare who isn't trying to get to him thinks that, but he's to smart for the idiots that think they can date him to get to me. He's learned his lesson, and he's pretty crushed.." Blue started to feel guilty. "He's a big fan of yours, Blue. He has a big poster of you in his room. Blue smiled.
"Really?"
"Really." Sapphire winked. Compass knocked on the door. Blue opened it for him.
"Please, come in" She gestures. Sapphire stood up.
"I'll give you two some privacy"
The merged into deep conversation. Sapphire began to get bored and wandered around. it was dark, and one of the stallions were flirting with her. She started to flirt back and he took her to his trailer...I think you can work out what they did. Meanwhile, Blue Moon was beginning to fall in love with Compass, but she was fully unaware that Compass had always loved her, since he first saw her on the TV. It seems Blue Moon has no idea how many fans she had. Finally, Compass asked her if she wanted to go to party that next night. Blue Moon smiled and accepted his inviation.
"Awesome!" Compass grinned. "I'll pick you up tomorrow night at 6" Blue Moon grinned.
"Okay, see you tonight!" She walked him to the door. Sapphire leaped out of stallions trailer, blew him a kiss and resumed her position outside Blue's trailer. The door swung open and Compass walked down the steps.
"Um sis?" He asked Sapphire. The mare smiled.
"Yeah?"
"Why's you're mane messy, you're sweating and blushing?"
"Oh...uh..let's get back to the carriage shall we?"
