“I left school feeling sad and angry.Another day,another bully.” Sally, August 29
This is just a normal day for Sally.She is a tall,pegasus pony.Sounds like every other pony that lives in Manehatten, right? Wrong. She sounds and looks like any normal pony.
But then you look at her from the side,wings up and showing. You see her bright orange blank flank.
Then you see the gray supporters on her wings.
You'd think she's a weird pony,a young mare still with no cutie mark and weird, artificial wings. She is bullied at her school for many reasons.
Her height,her wings, her blank flank and her loss of family.
Having no family or home to go to after school, she usually hangs out with her only two friends, Blossom and Melody. She sometimes stays at their homes as two or more day sleepovers. Other times, she's living in alleys with a small blanket that she's had since birth and half of a picture of her and her family.
She had a beautiful mom and a handsome dad and an adorable little sister. At least that's what's she's heard from ponies who were good friend of her parents.She never knew what happened to her sister.
All she remembers are her parents being taken from her and she and her sister being taken to an orphanage. Sally wanted for her and her sis to run from the orphanage.
They did but in result they lost each other. One was lost to a different town the other to Manehatten.
Sally wanted to find her sister so badly that she ran from town to town trying to find her. She couldn't and just gave up on trying. She found an alley to live in without being seen and enrolled herself into a school.
She thought it would be fun, but she was wrong. Due to her lack of knowing her special talent,she became an outcast.
She was mocked by a few of the ponies in her class. Then it went kinda down hill from there.
Sally got tall and so did the other foals but she was the tallest of them all. They teased her for it.
Then she had a problem with her wings. No matter how much effort she put into them she couldn't get a few inches of the ground. So she had wing supporters placed into her wings.
Now her wings looked artificial and then the foals in her class made fun of her for that. Everyday Sally went “home” angry and sad knowing that her life might not get any better.
This is where our story will start.
August 29.“I left school feeling sad and angry.Another day,another bullying.” I said to myself while walking “home”. I got to my alley in Manehatten and rested on the small, dirty blanket on the ground.
I stared at the small,torn picture of my family.It didn't even show my mom and my sis.
I got up from my small resting spot and quickly but quietly slipped past the ponies trotting past my alley and did my best to hide my wings from anypony. Once I was out of sight of everypony,I spread my wings and flew up into the air heading for Blossom's house. I got over there and knocked on the door.
Her mom came to the door and saw me. I asked if Blossom was home and she replied with a no.
I asked if she knew where Blossom was and she said that she was with Melody. They were probably at her house.
I thanked her and left. I got out of sight of any pony and then flew over to Melody's house.
I knocked on the door and Melody was the first one to the door. She saw me and greeted me with a big smile and a warm hi. I replied with a hi back and asked if I could come in.
Her mom asked Melody who was at the door and she replied,
“It's Sally. Is it ok if she comes in and hangs out?”
Her mom came down the stairs with her every so warming smile and said, “Of course she can. Come in,come in Sally. Blossom is here too.Sorry the house is a mess. The twins were just having a playful tornado in here.”
I said the house looked fine even though there was toys everywhere and some baby food in some places too.Melody and I went up stairs and I was greeted again by Blossom.
She had that glowing happiness and welcome on her again.
I said hi to her and she replied with her country accent, “Hey there Sal. How you doin'?”
I told her fine and we all went into Mel's room.
Mel closed the door behind her and said, “So what should we do now?”
Bloss and I just shrugged our shoulders and looked around the room.
I brought up,“We could come up with ideas to get our cutie marks,.”
Mel and Blossom replied together, “Yeah,sure,why not?”
I said, “Lets go.” We left Melody's room and headed towards the backyard.
Melody called out to her mom, “Mom we're going over to the clubhouse, OK?”
Her mom replied, “Ok honey be safe.”
We left the house and went over to the backyard. I saw once again the small trampoline with the twins jumping on it wildly, the beautifully mowed lawn,the small pretty garden with a pony fountain,and the clubhouse home to the Cutie Mark Discoverers.
The organization that me,Mel,and Blossom made.It only had three members, us.
Not a big organization. We went in and I made my self at home in my sitting spot on the carpet.
We sat in our thinking place and came up with ideas.
“We could try skydiving,” said Blossom.
“Sounds too dangerous,” Melody replied.
“We could just let nature take its course and be patient like every other filly and colt,” I said.
We all chuckled at the thought.
“OH! I forgot to tell you girls.I'm going to a town called Ponyville to visit my cousins,” Melody mentioned.
“Ok” Blossom and I said in unison.
“And I asked my mom if you girls could come along, and she said that she would love it if you did!”
Blossom and I looked at each other with very excited looks.
"I would love to,” I said. Blossom said that she could call her mom to see if it was ok.
Well it was summer so we didn't have school. I suggested that she should call them now so that she wouldn't forget later. Blossom went back in the house to use the phone and Mel and I stayed in the clubhouse.
We played with the cute little knick knacks that we had put in the clubhouse to make it more lively and then Blossom came back with a disappointed look on her face.
“My parents said that I can't go,” she said unhappily.
Mel and I looked at each other and then Bloss started laughing.
We were very confused and she said to us,“You girls are so gullible. I was just joking. They said that I could go!”
We cheered with joy. So we went inside and Melody's mom invited us to have dinner.
We sat at the table and had a nice,warm meal. (If I do say so myself.) I said goodbye to Mel and Bloss,but before I left I asked Mel secretly if I could sleep in the clubhouse.
She said sure, and I said that I'd be back. I flew up over the clouds, and went to my alley.
I grabbed my blanket,pillow, and picture. I flew back to the clubhouse and made myself at home.
Mel actually came by to say goodnight and I asked her when we would leave for Ponyville.
She told me,"Tomorrow."
Chapter 2
I woke up to the smell of waffles,milk and orange juice.(I have a pretty good sense of smell). I saw a small tray with waffles and syrup,cereal, and a glass of OJ. I finished the cereal in what seemed like 3 minutes.
The waffles were next and I tried to savor them cause I haven't had food like this in what seemed like ages.
I gulped down the OJ and then as if watching me, Mel walks in after I finished the last drop of OJ.
“Good, you're awake.How did you sleep?” she asked.
“Like a sweet foal,” I responded.
“Good.We have a big day today! So lets clean up this room and get a suitcase for your stuff.” She levitated the tray with the horn and we headed towards the house. I carried my blanket,pillow, and photo on my back.
Melody opened the sliding glass door and walked upstairs. I closed the door and trotted to keep up with her.
We went into her room and I realized that the tray was gone. She must have put it away when I wasn't looking.
I closed the door and Mel took out two suitcases. One for me and one for her.
I told her that I don't need a big suitcase and could pack all my stuff into a small saddlebag.
She replied with an, "Ok.'' and pulled out her sewing machine and a saddlebag that was not yet finished.
“I was hoping to finish this before today but I guess I could finish it now.”
And with a spark of magic, the machine started whirring. I saw that she sewed the flap of the top of the second bag to the strap and the sew on a small redish-pinkish cross onto the bottom of the flap.
She turned off the sewing machine and levitated the bag onto my back.
She took a good look at it and yelled, “PERFECT!”
Her yelp made me flinch and want to hide in her closet. She apologized for her outburst.
I told her that it was ok.
“Now lets get packed,” Mel said with a wave of her hoof.
“Hold on, shouldn't we call Blossom?” I asked.
She stood frozen in her position and had like a “processing” type of face.
I waved my hoof in front of her face and she snapped out of her trance.
“Yes,yes we should.” We went downstairs and Melody grabbed the phone and called Bloss. Mel talked on the phone for about 2 minutes. She hung up and told me that B would be here in about 5 minutes.
She went to tell her mom the news and saw that she was still asleep. We tried to wake her up but she wouldn't budge.
We both looked at each other and as if we were thinking the same thing and Mel said, “Fine I guess if you don't wake up,we'll just have to get the twins to come in here and do it for us.”
Her mom jolted up in her bed yelling, "PLEASE,NO, ANYTHING BUT THE TWINS!”
Mel and I started laughing as we left her room.
The doorbell rang and Mel yelled, “IT'S OPEN!”
Jeez, I never thought someone that seemed so elegant could be so loud. I guess she gets it from her twin siblings.
Blossom opened the door,came in,closed it, and dashed upstairs and tackled us to the ground. She had a big smile across her face and a suitcase strapped to her back.
We got up and walked to Mel's room and grabbed our things. Blossom admired my saddlebag and I told her that Mel made it for me.
Blossom was pretty jealous of me and Mel told her that hers was on the way. She just finished mine so I could take it on the ride to Ponyville.
Blossom stopped being jealous and we trotted on down the stairs, and saw that Mel's mom just finished packing her suitcase and the twins. We were ready to go.
We walked out the door,locked it and made our way to the Friendship Express. Ms.Song (Mel's mom) pulled out 6 tickets and handed them to the conductor. He nodded and we boarded the train.
Minutes later, the conductor yelled out, “ALL ABOARD!”
The train started to quicken as we made our way to Ponyville. Buildings and high class ponies zoomed past us as the train accelerated.
Mel,Blossom and I decided to pass the time by coming up with ways to get our cutie marks in Ponyville and we didn't get many ideas. So the rest of the time,we just talked.
We talked about Mel's cousins and what they looked like and acted like. And then the train came to a stop.
We got off the train and after the smoke cleared, I saw a small family coming towards us.
Melody and the twins ran over and hugged everyone there. We walked over and I saw a VERY elegant unicorn mare and a not so elegant, small,but adorable,unicorn filly.
Mel introduced me to Sweetie Belle and Rarity. Sweetie Belle quickly ran and then came back with two other fillies.
A small, yellow,Earth pony and a small, orange pegasus filly. Sweetie Belle introduced us to Apple Bloom and Scootaloo.
Apple Bloom screamed with excitement as soon as see saw Blossom. Blossom ran over and hugged Apple Bloom really hard.
I looked at Scootaloo out of the corner of my eye and I swear she looked really familiar. I snapped out of my trance and saw that everyone was already walking away from the train station. I ran to catch up with them and we walked over to a big boutique.
Rarity told us that this was their home and her business. “It's called the Carousel Boutique.”
Sweetie Belle told us, “This is where my sister makes a bunch of very fancy dresses and suits.”
Rarity took us up to a big room with three beds in it. “This is where you three will sleep.Do you like it?”
“We love it.Thanks Rarity.” Melody told Rarity and gave her a big hug.
“I get to sleep in that?!” I asked.
“Why of course,darling!” Rarity told me. “You act like you've never slept in a bed before.”
Me,Blossom, and Mel all rubbed the back of our heads. “ I haven't. I don't have a home.” I told her.
“Oh well don't you and your family have a nice shelter?” She asked
I started to get tears in my eyes. “ Well the truth is...”
Then Melody interrupted. “Um..., her family is staying with us until they can get back on their hooves.”
Rarity gave an understanding look and apologized for being rude. I told her that she wasn't being rude in any way. She told us to go into the room and make ourselves at home.
Mel and Blossom let me choose a bed first and I chose the most comfiest bed (which was hard because they were all very comfy.)I finally chose a bed that had a nice comfortable pinkish red blanket on it.
Mel and Blossom actually did rock,paper,scissors for the last two beds. I put my saddle bag on the ground near my bed and accidentally fell asleep during the two's R,P,S.
They got there beds and told me who won,but then they found out that I was asleep.I told them when I woke up that the bed was so warm and comfy that I couldn't help but sleep.
We laughed about it and we all decided that it was about time to get settled into our beds. Then I heard Rarity call for us to come down and eat dinner. We went down and we had a wonderful dinner.
After dinner we all went to our rooms and went to sleep. But Mel,Blossom,and I stayed up and played games with each other. We did end up falling asleep. But sadly not in our beds.
We ended up falling asleep on the floor.
Chapter 3
We woke up to sun shining through the shades and the smell of pancakes and eggs being made.I nudged Melody and she nudged Blossom. We got up and went downstairs. I saw a big table with a bunch of food.
We sat down and started to eat our breakfast. I had never tasted anything so good.
“So what should we do today?” Rarity asked us.
“I don't know,” Mel replied.
“Can I go visit Applebloom and Scootaloo today?” Sweetie Belle asked.
“Why of course, Sweetie Belle.” Rarity told her.
“ I would like to visit my cousins at Sweet Apple Acres.” said Blossom.
“Ok then,it's settled.We will go visit the Apple family and then take Sweetie Belle to go visit Applebloom and Scootaloo.”Rarity told us.
We finished the last of our breakfast and got ready for the day. We walked out of the Boutique and headed towards Sweet Apple Acres.
I heard a loud “YEEHAWW!” that made me jump out of my coat.
I looked and saw an orange pony in a cowboy hat run and kick the apples out of a tree.
The pony looked over and saw Blossom and ran over to us.
She asked, “Blossom is that you?”
“Yep it's me!”
“How did you get here, WHEN did you get here?” the pony asked.
“I came with Mel and I came here yesterday.” B replied.
“Well welcome back!!” The pony said.
Blossom looked over at me and said, “Oh,sorry, I forgot to introduce you to my cousin. Sally,Applejack. Applejack, Sally.” Applejack came over and shook my hoof really fast that it was a chore to stop it.
AJ yelled at the top of her lungs, “APPLES, WE HAVE BLOSSOM OVER. COME HERE!”
I just stood paralyzed as soon as she started. I can see where Blossom gets her country accent and attitude.
Applebloom came running up to us and she gave Blossom a big hug.
Applejack told us, "Ya'll have meet Applebloom,but this is Big Macintosh,and Granny Smith.”
“Nice to meet you.” I said.
I was very intimidated by Big Mac.
Blossom interrupted, “Well it was awesome to see ya'll but we need to get going.”
Applejack told her that it was ok and to come back to the farm any time she wanted too.We walked on with Applebloom tagging along.
Sweetie Belle told us that Scootaloo would probably be watching Rainbow Dash. I wondered who this Rainbow Dash was and what Scootaloo was doing watching her.
We walked into this big field and I saw a cyan mare in the sky doing amazing tricks and flips and saw the little filly sitting under watching in awe. I looked up and saw a dash of rainbow.
As soon as I said that in my head I understood why the mare's name was Rainbow Dash. That and I also saw the rainbow mare land in front the filly.
They saw us and trotted over to us. Scoot gave a hug to Sweetie and Applebloom.
Rainbow Dash came over and said hey to us and introduced herself to us and we suspected that she knew Rarity.Once again out the corner of my eye I saw Scootaloo looking at me,as if studying me.
I was tempted to ask her what she was doing but I didn't what to do it in front of the others,so no one else was wondering. We started to get going and said goodbye to Rainbow Dash.
We walked back to the Boutique now with Scootaloo and Applebloom following us. We went in and the three fillies ran past us.
Ms.Song and Rarity went into the living room and we went up into our room.
I closed the door and immediately told the girls, “Ok, that Scootaloo is starting to creep me out.”
“Huh?!” they replied.
“What do you mean?” Melody asked me.
"I mean, that every time we see her,I see her looking at me like she's studying me.” I told them. “Do you guys know anything about her?”
“I know that she can't fly very well,” Blossom said
“And she doesn't have any family either.As far as I know.” Mel told me.
“She sounds just like me.” A suspicion popped into my head but I just cleared it from my head.
It was getting late and so we went to bed. Melody and Blossom fell asleep but I just laid in my bed looking at my torn picture. I wanted to get up and ask Scootaloo if she knew what this was but I didn't want to seem mean.
So I just put it back under my pillow and went to sleep. Mel and Blossom woke up before me and went downstairs.
I finally woke up and saw that they weren’t in the room, so I just assumed that they were downstairs. I walked down and saw everyone there.
"Where were you?" Ms. Song asked.
“Sorry, I guess I overslept.” I replied.
I kinda glared over at Blossom and Mel, but then I just chuckled and sat next to Mel.
The three fillies came down and Applebloom sat near Blossom,Sweetie Belle near Mel, and Scootaloo awkwardly sat down near me. Again,I saw her look at me.
Some of the others also saw her look at me and Applebloom asked,
“Scoot,why are you lookin' at her like that?”
Scootaloo stopped and said, “Looking at who,like how?”
Applebloom just rolled her eyes. We finished our breakfast and went out to go see what all we could do.
My wings were aching.I really wanted to go out for a fly. I tapped on Blossom and Melody and told them that I was going to go for a quick fly in the field.
Mel told me that she'd tell Rarity of my where-about. I trotted off and got over to the open field where we saw Rainbow Dash. She wasn't there,so I was okay of flying without being seen.
I got into the middle of the field, smelled the cool,fresh air,felt the grass beneath me, and when I felt the perfect rush of wind, I shot up into the sky and flew up into the clouds, feeling as free as the wind and grass.
I shot through a few clouds, little knowing that I was being watched by a small,orange filly and a rainbow mare.
Chapter 5
She was the only one who had cryed. I didn't do anything but stand there.
Sweetie Belle and Applebloom went up to Scootaloo and asked her what was wrong. They noticed that she pulled out a slip of paper.
They quietly looked at each other and gave each other understanding looks.
I wondered why everyone was crowding her trying to look at the slip of torn paper. When everyone finally saw it,they all looked at me and then Scootaloo.
I was starting to get really confused.
I still realized that Scootaloo was crying. I looked at the others and waved my hoof at them, signaling for them to give Scoot some space.
They back up a few feet and when I thought that they were a good feet away, I walked up to Scootaloo. I asked her what was wrong, and once again she gave me a hug.
I felt awkward,but I just did what anypony would do, I just calmed down and stroke the back of her head. She pulled away and that's when I saw it.
A torn in half slip of paper with a mother and a tiny filly on it.
I took out my picture and sat down near her and put it in where her torn part was. My part fit perfectly.
I finally understood why Scootaloo was looking at me weirdly and why when I first saw her, she seemed so familiar.
I finally found her... my little sister.
As soon as I put the pieces together, I started to cry with tears of joy.
I looked at Scootaloo and hugged her as tight as the little filly could bear. This time it was her who stroked my head.
I pulled her back and saw that she too had tears.
I set her down and we just ran as fast we could.
We played like never before. The others came over to us and we just all had a laugh.
I saw Scootaloo go over to Rainbow Dash and ask her something with a sad face.
But it changed when she got an answer and a hug from RD.
I just smiled and looked away. Scootaloo came back over to me and gave me a big hug.
I returned a hug to her and as we hugged I looked and saw Rainbow Dash give me a nod.
I nodded back. Scootaloo pulled away and she went to play with Sweetie Belle and Applebloom.
I ended up talking to Rainbow Dash about what Scoot asked her and we ended up talking for a lot longer than I expected.
Epilouge
After what happened, I decided to move to Ponyville. And Blossoms parents and Ms. Song also decided that Ponyville was a nice place.
So we all moved and Scootaloo and I were able to create a nice home and we lived as a family once again. We both got weekly flying lessons from Rainbow Dash and I was able to fly with ease and Scoot was able to fight through her wing disease and she's flying up in the clouds with pleasure.
I also got to meet Rainbow's friends and I was happy to have more friends.
And to make things even happier in our lives, we both ended up getting our cutie marks!
Mine was a red and pinkish cross, which I assumed I got because of my caring towards others.
Scoot's was a daredevil helmet. Probably because she's always doing stunts and tricks with her scooter.
We are both very happy with our new and improved lives. And living better than ever.
And I must say,I may have found a very special somepony thanks to Scoot,and her friends...but that's another story.
Chapter 4
I took a break from my hard flying and sat on a soft cloud and looked at the view of Ponyville. Then in the sheer silence, I heard the small clap of hooves that told me that I was being watched from the moment I took off.
I stopped my breathing to see if it was just my imagination and heard nothing.
I took a sigh of relief but it was interrupted when a rainbow mare holding an orange filly on her back, snuck up behind me and scared the fur off me.
I sprang off my cloud in terror and fell only to catch myself by flying. Worst mistake of my life.
The little filly stopped clapping and stared at my wings. The rainbow mare only known as Rainbow Dash, also took a look at my wings.
I flew down immediately and tried to hide but Rainbow Dash was clearly a lot faster than me. She stood in front of me and I came down to a stop.
I started to breath hard and I sat down and started to cry. Rainbow Dash looked at me and put a hoof on my shoulder.
I heard little hooves run towards us and I looked up to see Scootaloo.
She still a had a face of question.
I tried to stop my tears and recover but it wasn't easy.
“Ok, I don't know what you have on your wings, and I would like to know, so please explain.” Rainbow Dash told me.
I took a deep breath.
Then I heard other hooves run towards us. Rarity,Ms.Song,Sweetie Belle,Applebloom,the twins, Mel,and Blosson came up to us.
They asked us why I was crying and why Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo had questionable faces. Rainbow Dash told them everything that happened.
And for visual support, I showed my wings. Everyone but Ms. Song, Mel and Blossom were shocked.
I decided that it was time to confess. I took deep breath and explained.
“I had a wing disease when I was little, I couldn't fly foot off the ground.And I had no cutiemark. I was bullied because I could't fly. So I decided to get these supporters placed in my wings.”
I showed the supporters.
“ I...I...I had no family to go to. My mom and Dad were both killed in a weather accident, and I lost my little sister. I looked all over Equestria looking for her but I couldn't find her.
I don't remember what she looks like but I do remember that she to had a bit of the wing disease that I had. But that's all I remember of her.”
Tears started to well up in my eyes.
“I lived in an alley in Manehatten for most of my life. And I only had a torn picture of my family that shows my dad and I and a blanket.”
I pulled out the photo.
“I sometimes lived in the clubhouse that Mel, Blossom,and I had. So that's why I was amazed by the bed that I slept in at your boutique Rarity. But I've been able to live through all my pain.”
Everyone but Mel,Ms.Song, and Blossom had sad but astonished faces.
They all gave me a big hug,and when they let go,we all realized that Scootaloo was still hugging me, but she was crying.
