Prologue: The Beast Within
Manehattan, Equestria, June 19th, 19:10.
A large machine in the centre of a laboratory, a white stallion with blue eyes and a brown mane and tail sits down in the machine, strapping his hooves in before looking up at a window above him. In that room is the General of the military, General Cross, he had a cream coat and grey mane and tail, his science partner Rosie who is the daughter of the general. And obviously the group of scientists powering the whole operation.
“This’d better work Bruce!” The General boomed on the intercom, “You do know that if something goes wrong, your job is on the line.” He looked down at Bruce sternly. Bruce showed a soft grin at the General.
“Don’t worry General, I know how this machine works, this should go smoothly.” Bruce admitted, “Rosie, don’t worry okay?” He said to the cream colored mare, with a rose colored mane with dark red streaks.
“I’m not worrying, I’m just not sure about this whole experiment. Have you even tested this before?” She tapped her hooves together nervously.
“No, but everything will be fine. I’m sure of it, if I’m still alive now, after what we’ve been through, I’m sure everything will be okay.” Bruce inhaled a sigh, knowing what he was about to do was extremely dangerous.
“Ready when you are Bruce!” One of the scientists spoke, General Cross placed a cigar in his mouth before lighting up and biting down on it. Bruce nodded before the sound of mechanism and energy filled the room. A green target-like sight shined onto his face. The chair started to rotate, not only clockwise, but also started to roll. It sent Bruce into a spiral, but his concentration still focused onto the machine. The light crossed over his eyes.
The radiation slowly increased in power, as the light got brighter, he focused more onto. He focused intensely onto the bright light in his eyes; it grew in strength, his started to cringe in pain. As if something was cutting through his nerves.
“Is everything going good down there Mr Banner?” One of the scientists called out, as the sound of energy grew louder and louder by the second. He nodded his head, keeping his eyes focused on the gamma radiation.
“Yes, everything is going smoothly, keep raising the amount.” Bruce suggested, as the chair started to rotate and spiral faster, now going in a loop. “Keep going, the radiation seems to be harmless at this stage.”
“Bruce!” The General spat, while chomping down on his ignited cigar, “I don’t think that’s a wise decision, how do we know that gamma radiation can help us?!” The light grew brighter in Bruce’s vision and he begins to groan in pain.
“Uh, Bruce, radiation levels are getting dangerously high!!” One of the scientists yelled, as the alarm sounded in the room. Bruce shook his head, this gave them the message that he wanted to keep going. But suddenly, Bruce’s eyes changed green before the machine started to give of a green gamma mist which filled the room and made the General’s and also the scientists also including Rosie’s vision murky.
“What the hell happened?!” Cross exclaimed, “Get ventilation in there now!!” The general saw something among the mist, something large – something threatening. They noticed the large machine that Bruce was in get thrown at them, the General quickly tackled his daughter down, just evading the large machine as it crashed through the window.
A loud, thunderous roar was heard as more parts of metal were thrown into the control room, creating a frenzy of sparks around them. The mist started to spread, the General got up, squinting his eyes to see. But the silhouette in the mist roared yet again, before throwing another object at them. The object crushed one of the scientists, who died with a scream of agony.
“I need my men here pronto!” The General called on his radio, “No excuses get here now!!”
“What seems to be the situation?” The response on the radio was crackling slightly, but the General could still hear it.
“Super soldier…uh monster – hulk? I don’t know; get your asses down here goddammit!” Another large piece of torn up metal was hurled towards the General as a roar echoed throughout the lab.
“No, dad! You can’t hurt him!!” Rosie ran up to the General, hugging him. “Please, he didn’t know this was going to happen!” The General felt saddened by this, but he had no choice but to push his daughter to the side.
“I’m sorry Rosie; Bruce has had too many chances. It’s about time I locked the bastard away.” The General made his way to the elevator, Rosie chased him, but the doors closed before she could reach him.
“Dad, please!!” She screamed at the top of her voice, a loud bang was heard in the distance. This was obviously Bruce, breaking out of the laboratory. Bruce on the other hoof escaped and was now onto the streets of Manehattan, long gone and out of sight.
Manehattan, Equestria, June 20th, 09:35.
“Welcome to Equestria, rise ‘n’ shine news! Today’s biggest report is, an unknown monster roaming the land of Equestria. Witnesses noticed a fairly large Pony-shaped beast, swinging from the buildings at around seven PM last night.” The news reported rotated to the right slightly to review a crowd stood around a stage with a podium on it, there stood the General and his tearful daughter behind him.
The General forcefully cleared his throat before neatening out the paper within his hooves; he looked at the crowd with a saddened expression. The crowd knew this was bad news.
“Mares and Gentecolts, I am sure you are aware that we are at war with the unknown – what you saw yesterday was one of the most powerful weapons in Equestrian history,” he changed pages and looked down at it before looking back at the crowd.
“Oh yeah, how powerful!?” Yelled an anonymous voice from the crowd, he shot them a look and shook his head.
“That we do not know young man, please understand that we are trying everything in our power to track down and hunt this beast.” The General looked back towards the crowd. “No matter how hard we try, no matter how many lives we sacrifice, we will find and capture this creature - and extract the very power it contains.” His daughter was crying, as she knew what this meant. Both Bruce and her father could die, this would kill her inside.
“And what happens if you don’t?” The same Pony asked, raising his hoof. “What will happen?”
“Well, that I do not know yet. I’m sorry.” The General looked into the crowd yet again, forcefully clearing his throat yet again. “If anypony comes into contact or sees this beast, you must report it to your local station. They’ll pass the details onto us.” Flashes from the paparazzi kept going at him wildly. “I think – what we are after, could be the very piece of weaponry we have been looking for, which could secure your safety. All information on the creature is classified and if you do see it, run and get out of sight.” With that the General left the stage, walking back over to his troops.
The paparazzi followed him, taking photos; he just covered his face as the flashes beamed in his face. His soldiers prevented the press from following the General as he left the site. As he exited the streets of Manehattan, the hunt for Banner began.
