The Second Chance

-Chapter 5: Getting a job

"Come on! Wake up!", exclaimed a impatient Tom.

".......*groan*....... What?", moaned a tired Rainbow Dash, on her cloud bed.

" I made pancakes. "

Rainbow Dash immediately sprung out of the bed.

" You said ' Pancakes'?! ", said Rainbow Dash. " You can cook?! "

"Didn't I tell you?" said Tom." I can cook! Whatever. Just come into the kitchen."

Before Tom could take a foot out to trot ( "Hoof! Gotta stop saying foot", said Tom), she raced into the kitchen.

In it was breakfast heaven. Stacks of pancakes, drizzeled in syrup, sunnyside eggs ( Dashie's favorite), and corn muffins, were all on her table. Rainbow Dash had never seen a home-cooked breakfast this good since she was living with her family. This had caused her to tear up a little inside.

"Well? Whaddaya' think?", asked Tom. " It might not be as good as I normally cook, because I don't have han- I mean cookbook, but I'd say I did a good job."

" It's-it's-"

"Well?!"

"Amazing!", exclaimed Rainbow Dash.

"Well, eat!", exclaimed Tom. " Tell me what you think of it. Try the pancakes."

Rainbow Dash took a fork with her hooves. ( 'How do you do that without dropping it', thought Tom) She then proceeded to take a bite out of the pancakes. It felt like she tasted a bit of nirvana.

" Faaa.......", muttered Dashie in awe.

Tom watched this with a sigh of relief, knowing his landlord was pleased.

"You know what kid," said Rainbow Dash. " You've done good...."

*****************After a big breakfast*****************

" Whelp, I gotta find a job", Tom said to Rainbow Dash.

"Well, I maybe I can help you find one." happily replied Rainbow Dash. "After all, you did make me pancakes."

" Yeah, well now I owe you more.", muttered Tom. " So what jobs do you recommend?"

" Well, you could work for twilight", suggested Rainbow Dash " But after what you did, she might not give you any money."

Tom walked towards the front door of Dash's house.

" Well, I'll go check to see if she'll let me." said Tom. " See ya Dashie!"

" See you Marino-Hanojo!"

***At the library***

" So, let me get this straight", said Twilight. " After beating my assistant with a stick, and sneaking into my library, you expect me to pay you for manual labor in which you owe me?"

Tom once again went onto his knees, and pleaded with puppy-dog eyes.

" 'Pwease'? ", begged Tom.

" Grr, alright!", said Twilight. " But you are going to work-to the bone!"

Tom, with this said, gulped.

"Follow me", said Twilight.

With that said, Tom followed Twilight next to some shelves. There was a humongous amount of books on the shelves.

" You see all these books?", asked Twilight.

"Yes", replied Tom.

With the response, a purple aura had surrounded her horn. Simultaneously, the books on the shelf received a purple aura. Then, all the books fell on the ground.

"Re-arrange these in alphabetical order.", said Twilight. " Report back to me when you are done."

With that said, Twilight went up to the second floor of the library and began to read a book, entitled "Fallout Equestria". Spike then came out from up-stairs with a bucket of popcorn and a cup of cola in his hands.

"This is going to be so hilarious!" said Spike. " You, work to the bone while I watch."

"Hey, I thought we were cool, man!"

" So what?", asked Spike. "You still owe me. By the way, what's a man?"

" I'll explain when I'm done with this re-shelving business!"

***several hours later***

Tom had finished reshelving all the books. He even dusted the books and the shelves.

"Hey Twilight", Tom called out from the library. " I finished re-shelving all your books!"

Twilight trotted down the stairs to her library.

"Impressive", she said, admiring the dusted book shelf. "I will give you 20 bits for working hard"

"What are bits?", asked a confused Tom.

"Have you been living under a rock!?" exclaimed Twilight. "It's basic currency!"

"I am new here", Tom said, "I told you, I came from a different country"

"Just go before I change my mind", said an annoyed twilight.

Tom, unhesitant, took the money from twilight.

"Have a Good night, Miss Sparkle."

As Tom was walking home to Rainbow Dash's house, Tom heard a familiar voice in a near alleyway.

"Just tell me already! Who are you and where are we?"

A earth pony was holding a small  filly in a stripped shirt ("Why is this pony wearing a stripped shirt?",Tom said, under his breath).

"Eddie?"

"Tom?"
