Regencies
Sonic Rainboom
Load Full StoryHer hooves gently clicked on the floor of the hallway, her shoes glimmering in the morning sun. So many would enter today and fail, and so few would be able to study under her. It took a certain sort of spirit to be one of Celestia's private students, a certain sort of power. All unicorns were blatantly magic, with aura's color coded to their abilities. Some were fashionista's, other were amazing at business. Different from the earth ponies whose magic was subtle and took years to fully awaken and pegusi who flew high upon the winds and were in touch with the very sky that birthed them. She herself was each part, an alicorn. With a mane that flowed like the morning rays and a body of not a pony but a horse, a fact that most did not know.
As she walked passed doors she saw parents leave defeated with their foals and fillies, unicorns passing tests and even a few earth and pegusi trying to impress the judges she had picked. Some of the tests were rigged, like the dragon egg tests. It was purely impossible, no child's magic could open up the thick shell of the legendary beasts she had plucked them from. In fact very few adults could too, but a unicorn who could was rare indeed. One room she passed contained the first filly who passed this year, a small orange colored darling with two tone hair and and a certain fierceness to her. Celestia liked that in her students, maybe she was the one she was looking for. She stood there for a while before continuing down the hall, finding a room at the end of the hall that contained one of the few rigged impossible tests. They were given only to the Unicorns who were clearly not cut out to even enter the building, Unicorns who were not worthy of her time.
" Norna Doon..." What a stupid name...but she was the smartest Unicorn on Staff, " Who is this young one and who are her parents..."
The Unicorn came prancing down the hall, pink mane well groomed and flowing in thick large curls. She gently adjusted her hind legs before poofing a list into exisstance and going through it.
"The fillies name is Twilight Sparkle, she comes from district 12a and has no cutie mark nor specific specialty. Her parents have marked her as a "jill of all trades?" She raised a brow before looking at Celestia again.
" Her parents are..." She looked down again, not paying mind to the girl who was clearly failing at hatching that egg.
"Twilight Velvet, she works as the local librarian and is the head of the Canterlot east branch. Her father is Midnight Sparkle, he is a manual laborer who apparently has been known to sing on the side. According to the secretary who signed them in he has a lovely voice...like velvet!"
"Mmm..." Rolling her eyes she watched, smiling slightly at the small ones effort. " Maybe we can enroll her with special honors at the regular school, she certainly is the first to not give-" She was cut short by the most loud of explosions, a bright flash reached though the room and into the hall. Celestia was stunned, watching as Twilight Sparkle cracked the egg to reveal the baby inside. She said nothing as Norna tried her hardest to get her attention, teleporting away to her special room with a look of shock on her face. Tapping her horn to the wall it wicked away to reveal a large empty room filled with scrolls, letters and one very old tapestry. In the center were stone spheres floating around a single large stone orb, orbiting slowly like planets in the solar system. A single black diamond circled beyond this, a second golden one keeping its distance exactly opposite of the first one. A flaming aura gently encased one of the spheres, turning into a steady glow as the other five followed suite. The center orb emitted rays of pink light, connecting all of them together like a diagram while the diamonds dimmed to cloudy silver. Celestia gasped, turning her head and teleporting back. She entered the room composed, bowing her head to the young one.
" Princess Celestia!" the filly gasped, bowing and then hopping up again in excitement.
" Congratulations, I heard you cracked the dragon's egg!"
" Yes, yes she did! We are so very proud of our little Twily!" Her mother nuzzled her father, smiling up at the Princess before gently moving their daughter forward.
" As a token of my gratitude, you will be entered into the most challenging of classes that only the most talented of ponies may enter, and as a special bonus I give you the very dragon you brought into the world!"
"Really? Ohmygosh!" The purple thing began to hop around, Celestia trying her best to not look so...annoyed. This child was clearly a kiss ass sort of filly, she'd have to keep an eye on her. Nodding once more she led them to Norna, looking back into the sky as the rainbow finally subsided.
"Celestia?" The judges still sat their, a little uneasy as the princess watched into the distance.
In a mere second her nostrils flared and she pawed at the floor, yelling once in frustration and throwing a magic blast at the ponies. They had no time to scream, in mere seconds they were clouds of magic dust floating in the air, colored gently with the colors of their manes. Neighing once in anger she flicked her wings to disperse the dust away, walking back down the hall to welcome the other child whose name was given as Sunset Shimmer. Maybe she would be more promising, she prayed to the gods she'd be more promising...
