Waving to Cheerilee, she descended towards the schoolhouse. Miscalculating the landing however, poor Derpy landed on her face. "Oh, my! Miss Hooves, are you okay?" "Oh, yeah, I'm fine! Ha-ha." Derpy smiled, handing over Cheerilee's mail as if the crash-landing had never happened. Cheerilee smiled back, thanking the gray filly and waving goodbye. As Derpy turned to leave, a small, haughty voice sounded behind her, jeering, "Gosh, what a loser!" It was Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. Derpy smiled nervously, taking a step back and extending her wings slightly. "I guess they'll let anypony with wings have a dumb old job like delivering mail." They continued their assault, giggling in that annoying way they always do. Derpy's smile faded, and she looked sadly at her mail bag, not understanding why they thought her job was dumb. Her thoughts were cut off when a pair of hooves knocked her down, the sneering faces of Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon staring down at her, their mocking voices laughing at her and imitating her. "Oh, look, muffins!" Tiara picked up a couple of rocks, tossing them at Derpy and nailing her in the face and side. "Uh-oh, I'm derping again!" Silver Spoon called, pulling off Derpy's bag and overturning it, spilling the important letters and memoirs onto the dusty road. They laughed even louder, walking away side-by-side. Blinking back tears, Derpy gathered the many papers and envelopes, blowing off the dust from each one and slipping them into her bag. She sighed sadly, touching a hoof to her sore cheek where the rock hit. Why are they so mean to me...? Derpy shook her head, taking flight again. She barely missed a flagpole and spun to a landing outside Twilight's library. Almost immediately after she knocked, the door swung open, and Twilight greeted Derpy with a smile. As Twilight chatted with her, Spike went back and forth organizing books, occasionally flashing Derpy an odd look. She tried to ignore it, but she couldn't help feeling unnerved. Clearing her throat, she reminded Twilight that she had other mail to deliver and bid her farewell. As Derpy prepared to take off again, she heard Spike talking to Twilight. "Why do you talk to her? She's such a weird pony!" "Spike! That's not nice. You should know better than to judge somepony because of their appearance." "Yeah, whatever..." Derpy puffed out her cheeks in frustration, choosing to walk to her next destination, the train station. She snuck through the doorway, staying below the counter. When she was at just the right spot, she jumped up, shouting, "Boo!" Her brown-coated counterpart, The Doctor, as he was called, shouted in surprise and fell back off of his stool. He stood again, pouting. "Why'd you do that?" He asked in his sultry northern accent. "Because I wanted to surprise you!" Derpy chirped, hovering upside-down. The Doctor sighed and smiled, coming from behind the counter and standing on his back legs to reach up and boop her nose. "How's Dinky been doing?" "Oh, he's doing great! He's starting school here in two days. He's so excited." "That's brilliant! Maybe after a few weeks he could stop by and we could talk about what he's learned?" "Yeah," Derpy smiled wide, "I'm sure he'd love to! Well, I have to go deliver the Cakes' mail..." "It's fine, love. See you tomorrow?" "Of course!" She lowered herself and kissed him goodbye, giggling as he booped her nose again. As she took off, she heard the Doctor shouting at somepony in the distance, hearing him say, "You take that back! She is a beautiful pony!" Shrugging it off, she stopped by SugarCube Corner, picking up a batch of muffins. Mrs. Cake handed her the pink box, asking about the weather and Dinky. Derpy happily told her about Dinky starting school, and how proud of him she was. "Even though he hasn't started yet, he's already learned so much from his friends." As they talked, one of Mrs. Cake's foals toddled up, looking at Derpy with big eyes. Derpy smiled down at him, waving a hoof. The foal tilited his head and looked at his mother. "Momma, why do her eyes go different ways?" "Sweetie, you know better than to ask things like that about other ponies." Derpy cut in, "It's okay Mrs. Cake, he's only a foal. Thank you for the muffins." As they spoke, Pinkie Pie came over with a special muffin, saying it was a gift for Dinky. Derpy chatted with Pinkie for a bit before taking off towards home. "Dinky! I'm home!" She called, landing outside her house. Unlike Rainbow Dash, Derpy's house wasn't a cloud, but rather an earth pony dwelling, on account of Dinky being a unicorn. "Dinky? Where are you my little muffin?" She hung her bag on the coat rack by the door, looking around the house. "Dinky, are you playing hide-and-seek again?" Derpy checked under tables and curtains, opening cupboards in the kitchen and bathroom. As the sun slowly set, she became more and more frantic looking for her son. "Dinky...?" She rushed upstairs, nearly tripping over her own hooves. "Dinky??" She searched her room. Nothing. The upstairs bathroom. Nothing. The closet. No Dinky there. Finally Derpy made it to her son's room, finding the door locked. She beat against the door, finally breaking the flimsy lock. "Dinky?" She rushed inside, hopefully calling her son's name. "Dink-- DINKY?! Author's Note Don't get me wrong, I love the Derp Master. She's my favorite pony ever! I just feel like writing a grimdark for her, since there aren't very many. By the way, yes the Doctor will be in this, but it's the Tentoo Doctor. No Timelord ponies in this one, sorry.
