The night was something only she could behold and that was a gift in itself, there was no way, her beloved citizens would not take pride in the glowing stars and marvelous moon she lifted with ease each and every day.
She would step out on the balcony slowly only to hold her breath for the moment of triumph she was waiting for.
Yet to her dismay, there was, not even one pony awake to look on upon her hard work. Not a single eye even batted to the moon, the stars, just for it to be wasted to watch empty ground.
Disgraced to be alive at that moment, she did a hiss and turned back to her bedroom quarters, it seemed to be this way almost every night. She was ready to give up at this point, why did she even bother to wake at all to rise the gorgeous moon anyways? If nopony even wanted to bask in its bright white glory?
As she sighed, thinking these depressing thoughts, she was soon welcomed with a deep and dark laugh, she would have shook if she was not used to such sounds by her beloved majestic blue abyss.
"Who goes there?" She bellowed loudly, still unable to speak in a more quiet tone like her sister had been trying to teach her.
Of course her yell was ignored and the laughter only got louder and more alluring. As if the sound was beckoning her to follow.
She was weary of the thought of leaving without even a sign to Tia, but she figured she'd try, after all, she was a princess as well and she would prove she was capable of such issues; even if Tia thought otherwise.
Her wandering brought her to Everfree Forest, which she immediately began to take heed of, her hooves feeling more firm in the ground then usual as she gulped. As affectionately as she adored her night, the Everfree Forest was still a place not even she should be thinking of passing but before she could step back, the laugh returned and she ignored the warning in her head to retreat, walking in head-on.
"Thou shalt not hide from thee! Come out! The night is to be shared my friend!"
"And what a night it is..." A dark purr soothed seductively across the wind and right into the Allicorn's flicking ears.
Feeling the vibrations of the whisper as if it was right behind her, Luna could not help but give a shake, her eyes only slowly turning to see a floating shadow. As she turned to the being, her hooves began backing away, she realized this creature was not of any pony kind but a monster.
"Thou foul beast, y-you shall not harm me! For I am Princess Luna!"
Her voice was roaring to shove the offensive beast off and away from these grounds. To her amazement it actually worked and the shadow faded back into the tree's in front of her.
With a triumphant nod, she began to turn and leave but then screamed as a blur of the said creature she could only see shadows of placed something around her mouth.
"Now now, is that any way to say hello?" The kidnapper teased with a tsk. "Honestly, you princess' need to learn more manners, especially to an admirer of this beautiful night."
His words of complimentary would have over joyed her if not for the odd fabric covering her muzzle. After feeling it she only now noticed it was fur of some kind, in fact, if she hadn't known better, it was also moving up and down against her.
Wait, was that his stomach?!
A chuckle near her ear caught her breath in surprise as she huffed in the odd smelling stomach fur tightening around her muzzle, causing her to shake in confusion and even in fear; something rare for yours truly.
"No need to be frightened but you must understand, you startled me first."
'Startled you?' She thought, 'Did you look in a mirror lately?'
She then jumped as he laughed loudly in amusement.
"I can tell by just looking at your eyes, your thinking I'm a monster." He responded with the delightfully evil glee of a naughty pony in elementary school, which had her rolling her eyes in return.
What she wasn't expecting was the release, she was happy to breathe normal air again but her balance lost when he released all that pressure and she found her muzzle hitting the hard ground with a thud.
The floating abomination tried his best to stifle a laugh at the fall, which was not seen by the irritated princess' malicious eyes down at the floor she fell on, cursing it silently.
"You know, it must be awful, to have so many ponies stay asleep during this gorgeous night don't you think?" He said with a jeer, ignoring the sudden stab he had unknowingly given the fallen princess.
Her hooves shook as she tried to stand up now but she tried to ignore him.
"I mean, sure, the day is fun and all but there's so much more to do at night. So many sights, sounds, adventures. Why, its almost a sin in itself to ignore this work."
Her hooves stayed still as she listened to him, her body only slightly off the ground, but despite the odd position she was in, her eyes stared into the dark abyss of her night, wondering again why she bothered.
"Must really hurt being ignored."
She gasped now, her eyes dilating and her hooves shaking.
A sly smirk playing on the dark creature's lips, but it was not noticed by the princess' endless stare into the Everfree Forest, searching for an answer, which he gladly would give.
"Poor Lulu..." He trailed darkly. "Does your sister not know how much she hurts you? Does she not see all the hard work you put in this night of yours? Does she even know you exist at all?"
Tears flowed down her eyes and straight into her mane as she continued staring, her eyes shaking with worry, fear and more then anything else; loneliness. Her hooves were too heavy at this point, she was about to collapse.
"But it doesn't have to be this way Lulu..." He purred with a smile, one of a sick puppeteer's commands as his snake tail slid under her chin and lifted it up to his face as he met her with his own, on the fourth pace around her.
She looked distant, broken and destroyed, her body greyed out as she lifelessly looked up at the despicable creature who knew her weakness'.
He could see the doubt he placed inside of her and he just smiled all the more.
"Fear, Luna, Fear. It is the only key to showing who is in control, who is the true ruler of Equestria. Remind everypony who you are, remind them what you fight for..."
As his words sunk into her body, she felt the colors return but as she thought of the idea, she began breaking down, her muzzle and legs just enclosing together on the earth's soil. "I cannot..." She whispered faintly.
"Tia...-" she tried to protest.
"-Doesn't care about you." He ended sharply, making a face down at her with disgust.
Her eyes shot open as she felt a hammer of negative memories flood through her mind. Yet for some reason she couldn't remember any of the good ones. As hard as she had tried, she could not think of any of them and instead her heart focused on the cold and cruel memories, her eyes sharpening with hate.
The creature just smiling as he planted the hypnosis inside her with the magic touch only he possessed, doing so with his tail on her back side.
Seeing his chance, he slid his tail under her body and helped her up on her fours, her eyes determined and enraged as she stood with a proud independence for her night, her beloved Equestria.
As he watched he gave a small smile and floated around her once more, placing the end of his tail under her chin once more.
"Are you ready then?" He said with a delighted but slyly evil jeer.
Her eyes only briefly looked away for just a moment as she tried once more to find the loving memories of her sister but as she found the hate once more, she just looked ahead and nodded.
"I am."
"Then I welcome Equestria's brand new ruler: Nightmare Moon!" He laughed loudly as the transformation began in a sudden giant tornado and the once loving and beautiful Princess Luna
became the creature of malicious and cruel intent
Nightmare Moon.
