//-------------------------------------------------------// Children of the Night -by Lestee- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Gari //-------------------------------------------------------// Gari I still remember it like it was yesterday. Although it was countless moons ago, after Discord was defeated, not much of our once-beautiful home was left. And the two brave ones that stood up for us all, ruled Equestria from then on. One day, the younger one, saddened by our daily struggles, proposed to form a new colony, where all of us would grow strong and happy. But the elder one, forbade it, for she felt it would divide and shatter the weakened kingdom, forever. No pony knows that we are still here, smiling beneath the moonlight while remembering our dear mother, for we will forever be her Children of the Night. My name is Gari. I was just a little unicorn when my parents were brutally murdered by Discord. The two sisters became my idols when they defeated the Master of Chaos. I heard of Princess Luna's proposal to strengthen the kingdom, and how Princess Celestia forbade her solution. From that day on I felt a sudden hatred towards our Princess of Day, and my horrid past pushed me to always listen to Luna, while not obey Celestia. I was a filly, so I did not understand the importance of our princesses. It was a normal orphan night. Our guardian was telling us about the tale of Nightmare Moon. I did not listen. I had heard Celestia and her dear sister talking about this. It was not our Princess of the Night's dark thoughts did not turn her into the wicked mare we now speak of. No, she was possessed, by an evil source called the Miasma. Their parents, made Celestia banish Nightmare Moon to the moon itself, for she had no choice. After a thousands years, Nightmare Moon was unleashed and defeated by the Elements of Harmony. Our guardian, Miss Pepperidge, was acting overly dramatic with her story. "The bitterness in the young one's soul turned her into the wicked mare of the night-" "No, Miss Pepperidge." I said, trying to act brave. I stood up in my top bunk, trying too look cool, but instead bumped my horn on the wings of the ceiling fan, sending a ripple of laughter through the crowd of ponies around our guardian. "Excuse me, Miss Gari?" Said the White unicorn that was supposedly our guardian. "I said no. Twas not Luna's fault. For the ponies soon discovered the beauty of her night, and our dear princess was content. Princess Luna was possessed by the Miasma." The fillies gasped. I continued. "Celestia had no choice. Her parents' plan to save Luna included Celestia banishing her to the moon. So she did as she was told. Which is why we should not fear our princess, much more love her, for all she ever did, does, and will do, is for the good of her own kingdom." I cleared my throat and realized everypony was staring at me. I lay back in my bunk and let the sound of Miss P. telling her version of the story lull me to sleep. *** I woke up in the middle of the night to soft, sad, singing. I sat up in bed, rubbing my eyes with my hooves. I squinted through the dim light filtering out the window. I could see a dark shape swooping down outside. After a moment, I realized it was Princess Luna. I heard other ponies shuffle in bed.
