Chapters Mythic Spell, the Mage-in-training
As the train pulls into the station, Mythic puts the bookmark on the page he was reading of "controlling magic for dummies". He stands up and levitates his saddlebags onto his back, sighing in Boredom.
"I really hope what that "Doctor" told me was true about Twilight Sparkle helping me." Mythic said absent-mindedly.
After getting off the train, Mythic tips six bits to the conductor out of apology. The conductor had to spend the whole ride trying to repair some seats Mythic accidently destroyed in his sleep. Mythic Spell is a male unicorn pony who has a vast amount of talent in magic, but has barely any control while awake. That is the exact reason Mythic decided to come to ponyville. A strange stallion who called himself "The Doctor" told him that there is a unicorn mare named Twilight Sparkle in a town called Ponyville that will be able to help him learn control.
While pondering all of what The Doctor said, Mythic failed to notice a certain pink pony appear in front of him.
"Hi there! My name is Pinkie Pie, but you can call me Pinkie!" the disturbingly sneaky pony named Pinkie Pie said.
"Gah! Where the hay did you come from!?! wait, ignore that, I was lost in thought. It's nice to meet you Pinkie. My name is Mythic Spell." Mythic replied, a little surprised at his own obliviousness.
"So, what all is there to do in Ponyville?" Mythic decides to ask.
Pinkie replies "Well it depends, what do you like to do?"
After some thought, Mythic decided to say "Well, most of the time, I sit in my current town or city's library trying to increase my control over magic. But I also like to hang out with anypony who wants to be friends with me...I have to admit, I'm a little anti-social, I don't mind being around others, but i don't feel comfortable in big groups, usually groups of ten or more."
Pinkie give Mythic a shocked look before saying "You sound a bit like lime Twilight! Only she's a bit more social than you apparently, but that's probably because she's Princess Celestia's Student."
After Pinkie said that, Mythic stopped walking for half a second. realizing his pause, he sped up his pace to catch up to Pinkie.
As the two leave the station, Mythic asks "Hey, Pinkie? Can you show me around town? I don't think getting lost will help my already low social skills."
To which the hyper mare replies " Okie-Dokie-Lokie! But you don't seem as uncomfortable as you said you were."
Mythic chuckled a bit at that. As he notices Pinkie staring at him, he says "Well, that's because, for some unknown reason, I find it easier to talk to you that to most ponies."
Pinkie shrugs and says "Well use that feeling to get past your shyness, silly!"
Mythic nods at the solid sounding advice as the two continue the tour of Ponyville. After Pinkie shows Mythic the Sugar Cube Corner, Town Hall, two restaurants, and the furniture store, they arrive at the town library.
"And here is the Library, Twilight lives and works here with Spike."
Mythic, who was one who was always full of questions, asked "Spike? Like, a draconic assistant?"
Pinkie looks at him and says "How did you know that? Did you read this story before?!" Then she proceeds to look up and yell " WHY DID YOU DO IT, DACHANDE! "
"Actually no, I didn't read this befo~ wait, what?" Mythic starts to reply.
"Don't mind her, that's just Pinkie being Pinkie." chimed in a new voice.
Mythic turned around to look at the owner of the new voice and sees a violet unicorn mare with a blue mane/tail that have pink and purple highlights. Her eyes were a light purple color and her Cutie Mark resembles a pink six-pointed star surrounded by five smaller white stars.
"O...Kay then, I'll take your word for it." Mythic holds out his hoof and says "It's nice to meet you, my name is Mythic Spell."
The unicorn then grabs his hoof with her own and replies " Hello Mythic Spell, I am Twilight Sparkle." At that moment, Mythic gets surrounded by a blueish-gray magical aura. Before Mythic gets to ask what was going on, the ground decided it wanted a hug, followed by the library's outer wall.
As Mythic slips into unconsciousness, he says "Well, I guess i deserved that. Broken nose, and a concussion, thanks...Lyra."
As Mythic Starts to wake up, a sharp pain goes through his head. Realizing it's his concussion, he starts so sit up, cringing in pain. "well, at least my nose isn't broken anymore, but i think i still have a concussion." he says with a hint of sarcasm. He decides to look around the hospital room he was in, trying to find any hint of him accidently transforming something while he was out cold. He looks over at a chair, or rather, a pinball machine. "I'm kinda surprised i didn't hurt anypony this time."
"No, but you did take quite a beating against the ground and library." Twilight replies as she walks in. After twilight enters, she is followed by Pinkie and a Cyan pegasus mare with a rainbow colored mane.
Realizing the pegasus must be one of their friends, Mythic says "niice, I think the ground and the library both wanted hugs, so i had to oblige. though, I'm pretty sure Lyra wanted to help too. Am I right, Lyra?" As Mythic finishes talking, Lyra Heartstrings walks in.
Lyra replies to Mythic's sarcastic comment with " Hey, you had it coming after you fractured my hip when we were younger." Twilight, Pinkie, and the cyan mare, who Mythic overheard Pinkie calling her "Dashie" all looked at him with a pretty scary glare.
"Hey, it wasn't my fault I was allergic to school work. Also, that was a long time ago, I have more control over my talent now, but it's still not enough to stop my unconscious mind from changing things into random objects." Lyra just glares at Mythic, and turns to leave, but before she does Mythic says "I'm sorry that happened. Back then, I was barely able to lift a quill an inch with magic without nearly sending it through a solid chunk of Iron." Lyra hesitates a moment before continuing out the doorway. As she leaves mythic sighs and tries to explain that day to Twilight, Pinkie, and "Dashie".

Ch. II pt. 1: The Flashback
Current year: 988 C.E. (13 years ago)
It happened around lunchtime at the school, but I think I will start with getting on the carriage in the morning.
Mythic Spell waved goodbye to his parents as he boarded the carriage to school. After a few seconds, he finds an empty seat and sits down. Looking around for anypony he knows, Mythic groggily realizes he gets on before his friends, Ditzy Doo and Lyra Heartstrings. Settling into the seat, he looks out over the side of the carriage to think of a way to increase his control before today's test unicorns have to take. Mythic halts his thoughts as a rough, but playful punch hits him in the shoulder. Looking over, Mythic sees his friends Lyra and Ditzy standing there. He scoots over to give them room to sit, so they can talk on the way to school.
"So, Mythic, what were you thinking about? You were deep in thought when we saw you," Lyra asked, about two stops later.
Mythic replies "Well, I'm still having trouble using magic. Last night, I accidently blew up one of my books, instead of picking it up. I was trying to think of a way to learn control before the test after lunch." Mythic was always smarter than he let on. After he exploded the book, he meditated to check his mana flow. He discovered that his mana flow's just fine, but feels like there is something....extra hidden within it. While at the same time feels like something is missing. To try to figure out what was going wrong, Mythic conducted a little experiment.
Taking notes using his hoof as he worked, Mythic tried lifting a spare quill with magic. He succeeds in lifting the quill about an inch, until the quill shoots forward and impales itself into his bookcase. As soon as the quill launches, Mythic checks his mana flow, surprised at what he finds. His mana flow was normal as he lifted the quill, but when he tried to lift it higher, part of it twisted into something odd. It was still unicorn magic, but it felt more...Chaotic. Another thing he discovered was that after a certain point, his flow destabilized, as if there was nothing available for it to conduct through. Tired and puzzled, Mythic decided to call it a night and went to bed.
Deciding that his friends should know, he pulls out his notes from last night and explains what they mean. "So basically, my magic is mixed with chaos energy for some reason. It also loses it's conductor after a certain point, causing unknown effects. From what I know, a unicorn has a conduit that is more powerful than an earth pony, or pegasus. Resulting in the growth of a horn used to channel the conducted magic into reality."
"Uh, In Equish please," Lyra says.
At that, Mythic realizes he just said something that basically, only Alicorns know. He says "Oh, sorry. What I just said means that my magic is a mix between normal unicorn magic and chaos magic. Unfortunately though, I don't have the DNA strand that builds the conduit, or conductor, that every unicorn has in order to control magic without long hours of harsh, tiring, practice."
"So, what you're saying is, that most unicorns don't need to practice very hard to control magic, But you have to because of a genetic defect that causes you to have to work harder for control," Ditzy said.
Mythic looks at Ditzy with an awestruck look. He knew she was smarter than most ponies give her credit for, but her understanding surprised even him. "Actually, that is spot on Ditzy, you really should show your smarts more often, then again, so do I," Mythic said. Ditzy blushed a bit as she heard his comment, but said nothing. Soon after the short conversation, their carriage arrived at the school. The three friends hop over the side of the carriage and walks towards the door. As they enter the schoolhouse, the three are greeted by the familiar look of the classroom. The walls were a warm shade of yellow with a blue tint. Drawings from the many students adorned the walls and the desks were in a neat, orderly fashion. There were four windows, two on each wall on the left and right.
The three say a temporary goodbye to each other and sit in their assigned seats. Mythic sits near the front while Ditzy and Lyra sit about four seats back and three seats to the left, for Lyra, and right, for Ditzy. When the bell finally rang, the class filled with the rest of the students and then their teacher, Mr. Sprocket. Mr. Sprocket is a chestnut brown unicorn with a mane and tail the same color as bronze, but without the shine. His cutie mark is a pair of cogs with the teeth interconnected. After he finished his job as an engineer, he went on to be a teacher to pass on his knowledge to the next generation.
"Okay class, settle down so we can begin. Today's lessons will be pretty simple, unless you are one Mythic Spell. Mythic, I am going to have you doing advanced math and such. As for the rest of you, please open your textbooks to page 235 and do problems one through eight," Mr. Sprocket said.
That wasn't a surprise to Mythic, Mr.Sprocket knew how smart he was. To be honest, Mythic found the work he was doing to be kind of boring. At least he won't have to change classes, Mr.Sprocket has advanced students sitting in the front row, that way he knows who can find answers to problems quickly. Another reason for that is so he can call on other students fist to give them a chance before he calls on the Adv. students.
The day pretty much went smoothly from there, Starting with math, then history, and finally, science. As the lunch bell rings, Mr. Sprocket addresses the class "Okay, have a good lunch class, and don't forget, science, math, and history are just as important as learning to fly, or using magic."
As Mythic leaves the class, he meets up with his two friends. They wander to their favorite tree and hang out while they eat. Lyra's lunch was a daisy sandwich with hayfries, a small salad, and an apple. Ditzy's was a little odd. It was a peanut butter and mustard sandwich with pickles and salsa. Mythic brought a less vegetarian meal. His was fish fingers and custard with an apple, a banana, and celery.
"What? Fish is a good food to eat, it helps keep a pony's body healthy and strong. I don't eat it often though, I just feel really weird eating meat," Mythic explained upon getting his friends' odd stares.
Lyra replies "It's not that, I was just going to ask, why fish fingers and custard ? That's a really odd combo, next to Ditzy's peanut butter and mustard..."
"Peanut butter and mustard? your friend sounds a lot like Orihime, Mythic." Pinkie pie says, interrupting the story. "And why did you eat fish fingers with custard? Did you watch Doctor Who recently?"
Mythic confusedly replies "What? Actually, nevermind, can I continue?" Pinkie nods.
"I have an odd taste for food? Actually, PB and mustard sounds really goo~" Mythic cut off mid sentence, something causing him to lose control of his body. Whatever took control forced him to use magic, which in turn, caused a small tornado to form. The tornado picked up Lyra and Ditzy off the ground, then threw them into the schoolhouse, breaking Ditzy's right wing and Lyra's hip. The last thing he saw besides the jagged bones sticking out from Ditzy's wing was a branch to the face. After Mythic regained consciousness, he felt a slight pain through his back right leg. Realizing he had fractures at both his ankle and knee, he decided it would be a long visit to a physical therapist afterwards. Speaking of therapy, Mythic wondered how his friends were doing. At that thought, how will he apologize? Lyra will probably hate him for a long time, and Ditzy...Ditzy moves back to Cloudsdale today, That will be difficult for her.
"So, at that moment, I decided to learn more control before I try apologizing," Mythic says as he finishes his story, barely holding back tears of sorrow.
Mythic Spell, the Mage-in-training
Ch.II pt. 2: Things get complicated....
"Ok, I can understand why you wanted to wait to apologize, but don't you think that might not have been the best idea?" Twilight states, now also on the brink of tears.
Mythic logically, but sarcastically, replies "Yeah, why not apologize, when you yourself don't understand why or how you lost control. Great idea, risk injuring them further as you apologize." Mythic, now that he's 18, is a bit cynical and sarcastic. He usually doesn't mean to sound rude, but what he says doesn't always sound how he wants it to sound.
Sorry Twilight, it's just been an...Interesting day, I can't use magic, one of my two only friends still hates me, and the other, I have no idea where she is," Mythic says apologetically. "At least I can use runes to heal." At that moment, Mythic pulls out glowing blue chalk and quickly draws a rune on his left foreleg. The rune starts to glow green after a few seconds.
While the rune heals his very annoying concussion, he explains how his runes work. "The runes work by taking in latent energy in the environment and converts it into magic the runes need to work. I use runes because I can how or when they work. Basically, compressed magic in a nutshell."
After a few more seconds, the rune stops glowing and dissolves into Mythic's flesh, leaving him with a clear mind and no dizziness. Mythic pulls himself out of bed to test his balance in order to make sure he won't fall.
He nods, satisfied that he won't need anything or anypony to lean on. At that moment, the white mare with a pink mane and tail, steel gray eyes, and a cutie mark resembling a red cross, Nurse Redheart walked in. She looks up to see Mythic standing and says "Your not supposed to be standing with a concussion, why are you up?"
Mythic chuckles a bit as he realizes that she probably didn't hear his explanation of runes. After a short explanation of runes, he finishes talking with "And so, I used a healing rune to get rid of my concussion."
After about five seconds, Nurse Redheart replies "Well, ok, but I'll need to check to make sure you're ready to leave." So after a quick checkup, Redheart concludes Mythic is okay to be checked out. On the way to the lobby, they pass by a bunch of boring stuff you'd find in a hospital: I.V. stands, medical cabinets, MRI machines, Advanced DNA replicator...wait what? Adv. replicator? Mythic takes a second look at the DNA replicator. After looking at it, Mythic decides that he misunderstood what he saw, it was actually just an odd looking coffee machine. -Okay, I seem to be hallucinating slightly. - Mythic thought to himself. After a couple more odd sights like a pink hippo stuck in a wall and a dancing mirror, Mythic decides he will no longer eat any wheat products without first using a rune to cancel out the side effects and deadliness of ergot poisoning. On that note, He stops short a few steps from the checkout counter and quickly draws a poison negation rune, again, on his left foreleg. Once Mythic stops seeing things and checks out of the hospital, he randomly says out loud "I just realised that I forgot to check my family tree to see if I have any family to stay with here in Ponyville.
Suddenly, before anypony can comment on Mythic's random comment, a strange, but oddly enjoyable sound makes it's way to their ears from the direction of the town square. Vroooom..Vroooom..Vroooom, Thud! . They all look at each other and silently agree to find the source of the sound. The members of the group start running towards the center of town in search of the source of the odd but enjoyable sound. The first place they check is the town hall.
Once the four arrive, they ask Mayor Mare, An earth pony who has tan fur, a white mane and tail, blue eyes, and a cutie mark that is a scroll tied with a light blue ribbon, if she has seen anything unusual that would give off the sound they all heard. After getting a "no" in reply, the four head to Sugar Cube Corner to ask the Cakes if they've seen anything unusual. Again, no success. They now head towards an unusually symmetrical building twilight, pinkie, and Dash refer to as "The Carousel Boutique".
As the group walks through the door, a light chiing! sound is heard, though no bells are present on the door. Curious, Mythic opens his senses to magic and spots a simple, but unknown weave around the door and door-jam. "Interesting...Not unusual, but....Different," Mythic says to nopony in particular.
Just then, a white unicorn mare with gradient blue eyes, and a beautifully styled purple mane and tail, with three gems in a triad as a cutie mark walks in from the back. "Welcome to the Carousel Boutique, how may I~ oh, hello there Twilight, Pinkie, Rainbow Dash. Do you know anything about that oddly alluring sound? And who is this nice, handsome, young stallion?" the mare asks.
Assuming she meant him, Mythic speaks up "Actually, we came here to ask if you knew anything. I'm Mythic Spell by the way, nice to meet you, miss..."
"Oh, just call me Rarity, darling. I don't mind titles, but I prefer to be called by just my name," the mare known as Rarity answered.
"Well anyway, Do you want to help us look for whatever made that noise? We were going to check out the Marketplace next," twilight states. Rarity nods and the group, now numbering five, sets out towards the marketplace. They walk down the road towards a bunch of stores, talking among themselves, but Mythic stays relatively quiet. Being deep in thought, he fails to see the tree coming in close for a high five.
Thwack! "Ouch! okay, I really need to focus more," Mythic says, holding his now sore snout.
The four who didn't walk face first into the tree stop and start giggling at Mythic. Twilight, still giggling a little, speaks up "How did you not see that tree? You seem to be even more accident prone that Ponyville's mailmare."
"I usually become oblivious to just about everything when I start thinking. I walked off my old house's balcony while thinking about runes once," Mythic replies with a chuckle, as the group arrives at their destination.
The unicorns of the group immediately sense something odd. As a precaution, Twilight shields the group's minds from outside forces as they start their search around the perimeter. Pinkie runs inside a store to look around and ask a pony named Bon-Bon about the noise, Rainbow flies into the air to act as spotter, and the remaining three search around in a delta pattern. After about ten minutes, Mythic notices an odd, blue, box off to the side in an alleyway. He approaches with curiosity and caution to investigate the strange box. Mythic eventually gets close enough to read the words written on it which read "Police Public Call Box". Right before Mythic calls up to Rainbow, the doors open and out come two ponies. One is a chestnut brown stallion with a dark brown mane and tail, and the other is a light gray pegasus mare with a banana yellow mane and tail. "Ditzy!?....Doctor!?!!?" Mythic shouts, surprised as he recognises the two ponies.
