An alpha and omega.
Nations rise and fall, life begins and ends, and war... well, war never changes.
Even so, time tromps onward, never halting and never stopping its advance. Even with the end of civilization as the world knew it, time marched on, leaving the war in its wake. Likewise, the inhabitants of the world did not end or stop progressing either. Those that survived did so, in great gigantic underground bunkers, known as Stables. As time went on, the Stable doors slowly opened, one by one, and their inhabitants went forth to discover the horror that the world they once knew had become. For the residents of the Stables in and around the contested border city of Nam Occulta, they discovered not those horrors, but a society much like the one they had left. Occulta had miraculously survived the spellfire assault. How, no one knew, but one thing was for certain. They were the only survivors of the radioactive assault. Radiation still seeped into the city and its lands, but it wasn't at dangerous levels. The city then slowly rebuilt itself, over 100 years, and became a heavily fortified land. The myth of Occulta spread all around, via merchants and rumors, and many came to the city, eager to claim themselves a life in heaven. The city remained locked, however, and only those born there were allowed to stay.
Until the Assembly arrived, of course.
The Assembly, formed up north in Equestria, had attempted to revitalize the ancient Ministries and to bring order and peace back to the world. The Occulta residents, impressed, allowed them access to the city, and so it became the center of the Assembly's Domain. With a dedicated army to defend it, Nam Occulta was christened Neo Occulta, in honor of the Assembly, and flourished. Zebras and ponies alike were equally represented and at peace within the Assembly, the spite of the ancient war now completely gone. Not all is peaceful in the city and the territory that comes with it, however. To the South, zebra "Nationalists" frequently attack the city, with the hope of rekindling the fires of the ancient conflict that damned the world. To the East, the wilds of the harsh Immensum Loginquitas Desert blockade the city, with eldritch abominations rising from its sands to claim the lives of many. To the West, the Ecus Bay stretches forth, opening the city to the wide sea that separates Asini and Equestria. To the North, the Equestrian lands, with many attempting to travel south from the Big 52 to reach the safety of Occulta, only to be preyed upon by raiders and slavers. Inside the city, political tensions are rising from these threats, crime and death becoming prevalent on the streets as the town's resources dwindle.
In he midst of it all, however, is where our story begins, as a unicorn buck is left for dead in the far reaches of the fabled city's territories. Battered and beaten, his mind shut off from the world, his life has already ended, traded for a new one in its place.
A beginning and an end.

"Alright guys, now all we have to do is wait..."
"Waiting sucks."
"Patience shows competence."
"Are you implying that I'm not smart?"
"I said nothing of the sort. I only stated a fact."
"Oh shut up, you two."
"Query: If they are 'friends' then why do they display hostility so often?"
"Oh go power down, Due."
