"Do you have a twin sister that lives in the city...?"
Load Full StoryNext Chapter“Twilight, dear, would you so kindly get off your lazy ass and do something productive today? Oh and good morning, honey.” a voice said from behind the bedroom door. This was Twilight Sparkle’s morning routine. Her mother would wake her up and kindly suggest that she be more active, maybe even get a job and earn some money to help with tuition. Her excuse was always the same.
“Sorry Mom, I’m busy.” retorted Twilight. As swiftly as those words came out of her mouth, she would be on her computer.
Twilight was busy most of the time. She shunned the world around her; she had the greatest intellect in the world. This was all in an attempt to leave her mark on the science community, although she lacked the funding or support. Her university’s equipment was not nearly enough to achieve her dream. Even so, this did not deter her from studying the laws of the universe with her graduate work.
Time flew by; the internet does take up a lot of time. She looked up at the clock and her eyes went wide. She began furiously closing windows and tabs but to no avail. Her phone went off and this was a sound she dreaded. She knew that it was time for school. All but one tab was left open and it was open on Yahoof. She was running out of time but an article caught her attention on that last tab. She could not stay to read the article; it was time to head off to school. She quickly emailed herself the link, grabbed her phone and headed off.
Everyone knew who Twilight was. She was intelligent. She was beautiful, but she would never speak to anyone. She usually just ignored everyone who greeted her, but today she was reading the special article on her phone. A high school in the city had seemed to be damaged by a bomb that had gone off in the vicinity, but what made the case really odd was the fact that there had been no students injured or dead. There was a crater in the ground as if a meteor or a bunker buster had hit the ground. The wall of the school had been torn down. Twilight stopped walking as she processed the information given to her. How could anybody continue a dance so nonchalantly after such an incident as this? Students did not take up any chances to have interviews and their principal had declined to speak. Twilight took her phone to her ear.
“I have decided. After my classes, I shall partake in the investigation of this incident. Wish me luck. Agent Twilight Sparkle, Ut universum sit genus.” Twilight spoke to her turned off phone. She started to walk, but was hit by a person walking by. She and her phone fell to the floor.
“Are you alright? Wait… Twilight!” exclaimed the blue haired boy. They both reached for the phone, their hands met and they looked into each other’s eyes.
“Autograph?” asked the girl bluntly, “I got no time for that I’m off. I’m a busy woman and…”
“Don’t you remember me?” interrupted the boy “It’s me, Flash Sentry. I thought you left last week… how could be here?”
“Listen, Flash, I’ve never met you in my life,” responded Twilight with a look of indifference on her face, “wait, where did I leave to?”
“Well you went back to Equestria through this por-”
“Sorry I’m late,” interrupted Twilight in a hurry, “I’m late for my class at the university.”
Twilight ran off immediately leaving Flash in utter confusion. Upon arrival to class, everyone stared at her. She was breathing heavily; sweat was falling down the side of her face, but she had arrived on time. She sat down as the professor began the lecture. Nothing much was new to her. She knew everything her professor had to offer that day, and kept on thinking about Flash. She pondered the thought of how she left the week before while at the same time half listening to the lecture.
“Now this brings us to the concept of multiverse theory…” heard Twilight from her professor before finally zoning out to her thoughts. The mere mention of string theory sparked her imagination to begin its work. She could only think of Flash. What was the last word before he cut her off? She thought to herself for a while.
“Excuse me sir, would you repeat what you said again?” asked Twilight amidst her drifting mind.
“Sure thing Miss Sparkle. So multiverse theory. This theory has basis in the idea that what we see is not always what is. There is our universe, but there are also many other different universes that are parallel to ours, but are not exactly the same-”
“I’ve got it!” yelled Twilight as she stood up with phone in hand, “This is Agent Twilight Sparkle, I have found out the solution. I’m on my way.”
Everyone sat at their seats staring at her as she darted for the door, not giving a care about anybody caught in her forward momentum. The teacher had enough. He yelled for Twilight to stop. He was obviously mad, who would not be? She sat back down anxiously for time to pass by; she was just stuck with her thoughts again. Not long after class had finally ended. Twilight darted to the door, when suddenly a voice boomed out.
“I need to speak with you for a minute Miss Sparkle.” called out the professor. Everyone looked at her, grinned and left the room. Twilight was never one to get into trouble. She walked to her professor’s desk to ask him what he needed.
Twilight turned to the professor and noticed he was acting suspiciously. He looked up and down the halls, making sure no one would walk by. He locked the doors, closed the windows and shut the blinds. He turned toward Twilight. Twilight took a step back, something felt so very wrong. The only thing between them was a table.
“If you are insisting on failing me as a form of blackmail to coerce me into having sex with you, my brother is a marine and I have him on speed dial. I can call him up and he’s gunna beat you to a pulp” Twilight shouted as she started to pull the phone out of her pocket. Twilight was very attractive after all. She was intelligent. Her body had perfect proportions, she was voluptuous and she was blessed with great… assets.
“Don’t be a fool. I would ruin my career if I did such a thing,” stated the professor, “this is the reason I have asked you to stay behind.”
The professor threw on his desk a folder with “top secret” stamped onto the cover. Twilight gave him a confused look and opened the folder. It was the case she had read about in the article she had found. Canterlot high was printed on first page, along with photographs of 6 individuals. What made this even more interesting was the second page. There was a report an official being informed a girl had appeared out of nowhere, stayed at the school for a couple days and disappeared as mysteriously as she came. Twilight was ecstatic; she was going to visit this school on her way home.
“What is the meaning of this?” questioned Twilight.
“I have called you here to ask you to look into this case. The scientific community is baffled by this case. You are mad and, but indeed this organization has deemed you to be the most intelligent human to have ever lived. We need you to help us on this case,” explained the professor, “We will fund everything for this case. We have our hand in government, so we can spare as much money as needed.”
Twilight was dumbfounded. She was interested with this campus before, and now she was getting paid to investigate and perform experiments with funding. She was excited that she would be killing two birds with one stone. She would explore one of her interests, as well as shut her mother up about not making money. She accepted the task with excitement but the day was quickly fading. She had no choice but to wait until the next day to go to the school. She left for home; there were preparations to be made.
She had to keep quiet about her mission, her family could not know. Anyone with the slightest amount of critical thinking skills knew that top secret meant never tell a soul. Twilight walked up the stair to her room, ignoring her mother, and headed to the computer. She locked the door and gave a light chuckle. Behind her, the screen of her computer was black and had a list of instructions; she was to meet up with 6 individuals at the school.
“Sunset Shimmer, Rarity, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and Fluttershy …” Twilight read aloud. Somehow they sounded familiar, but she never met them before in her life. With one click, the message disappeared and the computer’s screen had reverted to its original state. The best thing she could do now was look them up on facehub. She wanted to add them and ask schedule interviews from each person the following day. She went down the list and added each of the 6 girls; now all that was left to do was to wait.
“Twilight, it’s time for dinner!” yelled her mother from downstairs. Twilight had no choice. Her dinner was simple. She had two eggs on her plate, rice a steak and a salad to the side. She stared at her plate and examined it.
“Come on dear, don’t be shy, just eat,” stated Twilight’s father, “So how was your day, Twilight? Did you make any friends today?”
“Not exactly,” murmured Twilight. She had the thought of Flash on her mind. He clearly acted like he saw her before. She stared back at her food. It all made sense to her now, but she was not 100% sure of her hypothesis. Twilight stood up and asked to be excused. She waltzed up to her room and closed the door. Her FaceHub had become very lively. The 6 girls accepted her friend requests and messaged her, but a lone message popped up.
“You…” It was a message from Sunset Shimmer.
“No time to explain. I’m a busy person. Let’s meet up tomorrow at 6’clock.” replied Twilight.
Skipping classes for one day never hurt Twilight. She was a genius after all. On the plus side, Canterlot High School had been given a short day. The first matter was surveying the area. Twilight packed her radiation detector, recording device, and of course a lab coat. Suddenly a knock came from the door and Twilight jumped out of her chair in a seizure like fashion; it was her big brother, Shining Armor.
“Hey listen, my higher-ups informed me that you were doing something important. I came here to hand you this. Just in case. Oh and a package came for you.” said the marine handing Twilight a handgun and a laughably small box.
“Thanks big bro. I’ll keep it close.” replied Twilight with a relieved expression. She put the colt inside a holster she had been given for her birthday. She strapped on the holster under her lab coat, took out her switchblade and began carefully cutting away the tape holding the package together. The box contained a badge made of leather and a gold broach. A note also came with the box. It was a note from her professor.
“During the investigation, show this to everyone that interferes or does not cooperate. It’s a Government issued ‘do whatever the hell I please’ badge. I am sure it will be of good use.” Twilight gave a big huff and laughed. She gathered her belongings and departed for CHS.
Twilight crept around the school grounds, awkwardly trying her to be sneaky, with her Greiger counter. There were no significant readings in the parking lot; she was obsessive compulsive. Impatience finally took over her as she wanted to extort money for her own experiments, so she began walking toward the crater. The counter spiked, and Twilight was stunned. She was curious. The crater was at least 12 feet down into the ground. Only a bunker buster could have created this, but then again nobody was hurt. She continued her search through the school, but to no avail. The entrance of the school and the crater only could have been the solution.
The next step in the investigation was to question the six students she who were apparently central to the case. The first was Rainbow Dash. Twilight walked into the gym to find Rainbow Dash practicing her breakdancing.
“I didn’t know you came back, Twilight!” exclaimed the rainbow haired girl holding herself in a baby freeze, “I thought the por…” Rainbow stopped when she noticed Twilight dressed with more skin showing than before and a short bob haircut.
Twilight squinted out of suspicion. Like Flash, Rainbow stopped at a certain word. Twilight was adamant about finding out what caused the explosions, but more importantly she wanted to know about the girl that disappeared. She walked up to Rainbow, who was sitting on the floor, and helped her up. They walked to the bleachers while Twilight reached into her pocket and activated her recording device.
“So Septermber 29th, 2015, It was your school’s dance am I correct? Tell me everything that happened that night,” addressed Twilight.
“It was just an ordinary dance. Why are you even asking me?” questioned Rainbow. She was quick to lie. Rainbow had to protect the secret of her friend.
“Explain the giant hole in the the school entrance and the giant crater outside.” Twilight said flatly with a stern expression on her face. At that moment, the door of the gym gave way and in fell an eavesdropping Fluttershy. She looked up at both Twilight and Rainbow who were sitting on the bleachers slapping their foreheads.
“Oh uhm. . . hey ahah I think I’m a teensy bit early for my interview, huh? I’m sorry. I’ll come back later.” apologized the pink haired girl. She turned her back to the Twilight and walked to the door nervously but was stopped by Twilight’s demand. The interviews were commenced in unison. Twilight thoroughly enjoyed this tactic. Both girls could not tell one consistent story. For instance, at one point Rainbow Claimed that the school building was old and the wall had collapsed on the weight of the new roof. On the other hand, Fluttershy insisted that a student had too much to drink that night and crashed their car into the school. Their body language did not fare as well as their stories. The two girls often fidgeted and made gestures toward each other to fabricate a decent story.
“Oh the inconsistencies, when will they ever learn? Nobody can fool a mad genius such as I! I think it is time to continue with the Ut universum sit genus.” whispered Twilight to her turned off phone.
Twilight ran out of time. Rainbow picked up Fluttershy and dashed through the hallway. Twilight became annoyed with the reaction of the girls; nothing had been achieved during those interrogations. At the end of the day, Twilight was certain there was something those two were hiding.
The next person on the list was a girl by the name of Rarity. Twilight walked through the door and into the art studio, and inside was an Asian girl before Twilight working on a sketch of a what appeared to be a dress.. Twilight called girl, who stood up to attend hto her visitor.. Twilight’s heart stopped. This girl was stunning; she looked very mature for her age. She was a little dirtied up from the charcoal, but it did not matter. She had a thin waist, and had perfect hourglass shape. Her step, as she walked toward Twilight, was accentuated. She swayed her hips, showing off her curves.
“So, you want an interview. Am I correct?” inquired Rarity.
Twilight’s tongue was caught; she struggled to find words. The interview was conducted and Rarity was rather dodgy. She was busily working on her sketch, and did not give much effort into answering Twilight’s questions. Time was money to Rarity, so she was able to convince Twilight to end the interview a little bit early. Rarity left without a second though and left Twilight some money as a refund of Twilight’s time.
The pool was an awkward place to meet up for an interrogation, but this was the only way she could meet up with her next witness. Pinkie Pie was not that much helpful of an interrogation either. She splashed around so much Twilight became angered at the constant water hitting her and Pinkie’s inability to hear with water moving everywhere.
“So you do you know anything about that crater and the hole where the entrance of the school is?” questioned Twilight bluntly as she had become frustrated.
“Yeah,” admitted Applejack with confidence, “There was this girl named Sunset Shimmer who was also involved. I think you should talk to her. If you have not already asked mah friends, don’t bother. They ain’t gunna tell you anything.”
Excitement filled Twilight as she finally had a lead. She figured she would not have to ask AJ of anything else. According to her bio, Applejack was said to be completely honest. It so happened that the person she needed to talk to next was a girl on her list of witnesses. Twilight took another look at the southern girl just to see if she was telling the truth.Twilight asked about the crater and the door again to AJ.
"I don't remember much, it's a haze in my mind, but I'll try my best to explain things to you," stated AJ, "First off that girl I was talking to you about, she is the reason those events happened. I was inside when everything went down. I walked through the what was left of the entrance, and I see a giant crater on the floor, and Sunset was in it. All I remember was her going ballistic over losing to the new girl, and I had decided to defend the girl who won the title of Fall Formal Princess.”
“Enough!” exclaimed Twilight, “I have all I need to know. I must go onward to talk to this one, Sunset Shimmer! Goodbye pee-on!” Twilight began her run to the principal's office laughing maniacally.
The last interrogation was upon her. Twilight walked into the principal’s office where a girl in a leather nicker jacket was waiting. Twilight closed the door behind her and turned around. Upon entering the room, she felt a cold fist impact her left cheek.Twilight flew into the wall and fell onto the floor. She looked up with her hand over her eye and there stood Sunset Shimmer with her face red.
“Why did you come back? Are you here to rub the your victory in my face?” cried Sunset, “I was supposed to be the Princess of the dance. You humiliated me. You said you’d leave me alone, so why are you here?”
Twilight gazed at Sunset Shimmer, but a picture had caught her eye. It was a series of pictures of Sunset in a dress and with a crown upon her head. Twilight’s eyes opened wide as she moved her hand from her face, and ran out the door. She saw a girl with hair just like hers. Did she attend this high school?
