A Wonderbolt is the epitome of elite flying. Being the best while also maintaining order, the land of Equestria has two purposes for the team of athletic pegasi. The first use is for performances; their ability to perform outshines those of any other team of ponies to grace the sky. The money they bring in helps support the other part of their organization.
The other portion of being a Wonderbolt is being part of the Equestrian military. The units act as a division of the aerial squadron during war and dire situations. Thus once joining the Wonderbolts it isn't so easy to leave. Because of the consequences of abandoning the squad to leave back home without permission, it causes the ponies to spend a lot of time away from family and friends.
The loneliness of being a Wonderbolt is one of the prices paid for being an elite and adored celebrity. The lonely nights cause sadness and other melancholic thoughts to set in. The reality of the dream is like a waking nightmare. Thus the Wonderbolts sometime spend nights in the forelegs of random lovers, or in the forelegs of their own teammates.
While fraternizing is generally frowned upon in most team units or military squads, during the lonely nights all taboo can be forgiven. When two well-known members are feeling the itch and are isolated from the world they decide to enact on such taboo.
Spitfire had been feeling the itch the entire day, post performance rush causes the mare to crave sexual release. She had usually some groupies or fans she would spend time with just letting off some steam, however, this night she was confined to the hotel that her teammates were sharing.

He heard a knock on his hotel room and put on the facade of a happy pony "Who's there?" His mood lifted just for a bit at the thought of a potential pony to spend time with during this one lonely and sorrowful night.

He turned around and to his surprise he saw something that would make him see his captain in a new light.

"Well then as long as we don't let this affect our professional relationship, I think we can have something permanent." She wanted to find someone to settle down with and not have to worry about a lonely night ever again.
