The Darkness
The birthday that wasn't
Load Full StoryMidnight Twinkle woke up to birds chirping happily, Celestia's sun shining down on Equestria, and her mother cooking eggs and haybacon. She was a dark blue filly, with a dark purple mane that had a shiny blue stripe running through it. She carried out her daily routine; out of bed, bathroom (filly business), fix her mane, stroke her wings, get breakfast, and head to school. However, today was her birthday! And she knew her mother and Pinkie Pie would throw her a HUGE party, even though it would only be Pinkie Pie and her friends. She sighed and sat down, her plate full of delicous food.
"What's wrong Twinkle?" Her mother asked, "I thought you were excited to turn seven?"
"It's not that I'm not excited, I just don't want to deal with the bullies at school! They're so mean! I just wish the teacher would expell them, instead of passing it off!" She stated. "I just wish those bullies got what's coming to them for once!"
"Well, Twinkle, I don't know what to say. Sometimes we just have to deal with these things and fight through them. Besides, it's all happening for a reason don't you think?" She replied.
Midnight Twinkle thought for a moment. They wouldn't bully her on her birthday... would they? But not even they would stoop to that level. She decided to go to school after all.
"Well, maybe I will go to school, so bye-bye momma!" She said, trotting out the door.
She walked into the school building, waiting for the usual taunting welcome. She kept on walking to her desk, and when she sat down she heard a sound like a tuba. She got up and looked down. A whoopie cushion. She groaned and tossed it aside. She somehow hadn't noticed everypony laughing at her mix of surprise and embarasment. But she was twice as embarased now. She looked around, and saw Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon smirking at her.
"Happy Birthday, Tinkle Twinkle!" They spat sarcasitically in unison. "Hope you like your present!"
"Stop laughing! Please! Stop laughing at me!" She begged at her snickering class mates.
"She didn't see it coming! That's what makes it twice as funny!" One of them laughed.
Miss Cheerilee came in the door, and nopony noticed her. She looked at her students angrily. When she saw none of them were paying any attention to her what-so-ever, she came up to the door and scraped her hoof against it. Everypony covered their ears and turned to her.
"Alright, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon," she said angrily. "Just what's so funny that the whole class is laughing at?"
"Well," Diamond Tiara spoke up, "Midnight Twinkle so rudely farted when I was speaking to the whole class about how much fun we're all going to have at her birthday party."
"IT WAS A WHOOPIE CUSHION THAT YOU PUT IN MY CHAIR!!!" Midnight yelled at Diamond Tiara.
"GIRLS! That is enough out of the both of you!" Cheerilee shouted loudly. "Now, I want you both to apologize to eachother!
"it wasnt me." Midnight whispered. She ran out the door with tears in her eyes. Cheerilee watched her flee.
Midnight Twinkle galloped to her special spot where she would go when she was feeling sad. It was a lake that had a stream running off of it and a beuatiful peach tree grew near the crystal clear waters, and on this peach tree were lucious, plump, and beautifully colored peaches. She picked off a peach and bit into it. It's taste was almost enough to make her forget all of her troubles and worries. She looked into the clear water and started to cry again. She felt like nopony but her family and pet beagle, Snoopy, cared for her. Just as she thought that, her dog had been searching for her all over and finally found the crying filly. He ran up to her and snuggled her. She petted his soft fur. He whimpered as if asking what she was crying about. This has been the worst birthday ever.
"It's not fair! I didn't do anything to them, so why are they so mean to me? Do I look weird? Do I look weird to you Snoopy?" She said crying. He barked in reply.
She hugged the dog she cared for so much. She cried her eyes out on him.
"Well, it can't be worse, right?" She asked. As if by some coincidence, it started to rain. "Me and my mouth."
She stood up, and trotted home. When she was half-way to her house, it was night time. Then, they decided to show their ugly little faces at her.
"What do you want?" She spat, still crying from earlier. "Here to play another 'joke' on me?"
"No, we're just here to tell you that your party was fun. You should have come." Silver spoon replied.
Her party! How could she have missed her own party?! She started to cry even harder. That party would've cheered her up, but she was so sad and angry that she forgot. This really was the worst birthday ever.
Midnight walked in the door and saw her mom making a cake. Her mom looked at her and smiled.
"Well, look who came home. It's the birthday filly!" She said, trying to cheer her up.
Midnight just sulked past her mother and into her room. She looked up at the clouds and thought that even the weather pegasi didn't like her, that they planned this specifically for her. She prayed to Celestia that she could have a better day soon and that the bullies get what's coming to them. She vowed she would never forget this birthday ever and that she would prove herself better than the others!
