Equestria Girls: The Other Side
The Other Side (Chapter 1)
Twilight Sparkle and her five friends, along with Spike, Twilight's #1 assistant, hopped off the Friendship Express after a long journey. They had arrived at the Crystal Empire for Twilight's very first Royal Summit with the other princesses. They collected their bags and started towards the Crystal Palace, where they would be staying. Twilight rolled her eyes at the excited chatter of her friends as they trotted along. She just wanted all this to be over. She wanted to have a regular life, not be a princess! Twilight shook her head and smiled as she entered the Palace.
Princess Cadance ran to hug Twilight. "Twilight! I haven't seen you since the coronation! How have you been?"
Twilight stepped back and replied, "Oh, just trying to get used to this whole 'princess' thing..." Gesturing towards her newfound wings.
"Introducing Princess Twilight Sparkle!" Announced a blue-maned pegasus Crystal guard. The guard smiled at Twilight as she walked past. Twilight blushed.
Princess Celestia stepped forward. "Please, Twilight, get some rest before we start the Royal Summit. We have much to discuss."
Twilight and her friends scurried off to bed. Twilight took her crown, which also served as her Element of Harmony, out of her bag and placed it on her dresser.
"I don't know, Spike. Princess Cadance was given the Crystal Empire to rule. What if Princess Celestia gives me a kingdom of my own to rule?"
Spike yawned. "You'll do fine, Twilight. You've shown you're ready for this!"
Twilight climbed into bed. "I guess you're right, Spike." Twilight closed her eyes, feeling sleepy. Her wings flew open.
"What's wrong with your wings, Twilight? Been thinkin' about that guard we passed on the way in!?" Spike joked.
"N-no! I-It's just... My wings! Shut up." Twilight stuttered, embarrassed.
"Yeah, sure, whatever Princess Twilight." Spike replied sarcastically.
...
Sunset Shimmer stepped through the hidden magic mirror she had been using to come to Equestria. She sneaked around the castle guards, who were out patrolling the hallways. Sunset made her way to Twilight Sparkle's room, whose door had been left open. She squinted in the dark, trying the find the item she was looking for. There! Sunset Shimmer thought. It shined even in the dim light. Sunset quietly walked over to it, when she tripped over something. It moved. Shit. Sunset was really in trouble now.
"Mhm... Twilight stop, I'm tryin' to sleep..." The dragon rolled over and went back to sleep. Sunset just continued on and grabbed what she was looking for and slipped it in her saddlebag.
Unfortunately for Sunset, Twilight heard the noise Spike had made and woke up.
"Hmm... What?" Twilight, muttered, her eyes still half closed. She looked around the room. Twilight made brief eye contact with Sunset Shimmer. She something shimmer in the cloaked pony's saddlebags. Her eyes shot open. "My crown! She's got my crown!" Sunset Shimmer bolted out the door with Twilight chasing after her. "Stop! Thief!" Twilight screamed, chasing Sunset through the halls of the Crystal Palace. Twilight's friends had heard the commotion and had woken up.
"What's going on?" Rainbow Dash said, rubbing her eyes.
"It sounds like a party out here!" Pinkie Pie exclaimed.
Sunset Shimmer had made her way back to the magical mirror when Twilight tackled her. Twilight's crown flew out of Sunset's saddlebag and into the mirror. Twilight immediately ran towards the mirror when Sunset Shimmer jumped in front of her.
"See you in hell, Princess." Sunset growled before saluting and leaping through the mirror.
By then, Twilight's friends and Spike had gathered at the mirror. "Are you alright, darling? She didn't hurt you did she?" Rarity asked, concerned for her friend.
"Yes, I'm fine, thank you," Twilight slumped on the ground in anguish."But she- she stole my... I don't understand, did she just take my crown through that mirror?" Twilight replied, confused as ever. What am I going to do? The Princess will banish me to the Everfree Forest for sure... I don't deserve to be a princess, anyway. Twilight thought to herself as her friends scrambled to comfort her.
"Twilight, it's gonna be okay. I'll go get Princess Celestia, she'll know what to do." Rainbow Dash said softly, as she flew off to find Celestia and the other princesses.
...
"The pony who stole your crown is none other than Sunset Shimmer; a former student of mine." Explained Princess Celestia.
"Heh, Sunset Shimmer? More like Sunshit Shimmer!" Said Rainbow, trying to be cool and make a joke.
"Rainbow, please! This is serious business, just imagine what poor Twilight's goin' through!" Applejack scolded, she always had been the wise one of the group.
"Jeez, I was just trying to lighten the mood..." Dash mumbled.
Princess Luna cleared her throat and spoke. "This is no ordinary mirror. It is a portal to another world that opens once every three years. It stays open for three days, then closes for another three years." Luna lifted Twilight's face to her eye level. "Your crown also serves as the Element of Magic. Without it, the other five Elements are powerless. Do you understand the importance of your task?" Luna looked Twilight straight in the eyes.
Twilight waited a moment before saying: "Yes. I do." She then stood up took a step towards the mirror.
Fluttershy handed Twilight her saddlebags. "You can do it, Twilight." She said, barley audible.
"We're countin' on ya, Twi!" Said Applejack with a wink.
"Yeah! We need to throw a huge party when you get back!" Pinkie exclaimed, bouncing.
Twilight's friends shouted words of encouragement as she stood in front of the mirror. Twilight stepped through the mirror, awaiting the wonders on the other side.
All of the sudden, Spike yelped. "T-Twilight, wait for me!" And ran after his friend through the mirror.
"What an idiot." Dash said, putting a hoof to her face. "He doesn't even know what he's getting into!"
Little did Spike and Twilight know, Rainbow Dash was right.

Pink Hair and Leather Jackets (Chapter 2)
Twilight Sparkle opened her eyes and groaned. I didn't think going through the portal would be that bad... She sat up and looked around to see a small purple and green animal, who strangely looked like Spike. "...Spike!? Did you follow me here? And, are you a... dog?"
"Well, I couldn't just stay in Equestria!" Spike walked around in a circle, trying to look at himself, his collar jingling. "Yeah, I think I am a dog. But I have no idea what you are!"
"Huh? I'm not a pony? Am I a dog too?" Twilight asked, confused and terrified of what she looked like in this new world.
"Well, you don't have a tail... Your ears are on the side of your head... Your muzzle is really small..." Spike said, tilting his head to get a better look at Twilight.
"My muzzle!?" Twilight screamed, clamping a hand over her nose.
"Well, it's hard to explain," Spike marched behind Twilight. He pointed at a large white statute with a horse on top of it. "Look, Twilight. This must be the portal back to Equestria." Spike stuck one of his paws through the base of the statue. "Yep, this is the way back home." Twilight noticed how calm Spike was acting. He was clearly more mentally stable than she was. For her, the shock of being in an entirely different world in some strange body was incredibly frightening.
"Yeah, if we even make it back home before the portal closes. Who knows what danger could be lurking out here?!" Twilight replied, every worse-case-scenario running through her brain.
"Do you think it could be zombies!? That would be so awesome!" Spike exclaimed. He had been watching way too much "The Trotting Dead" lately, and the idea of a zombie apocalypse seemed like the coolest thing ever.
"No, it would not, Spike! Everypony knows there's no such thing as zombies." But in this world, anything can happen. Twilight just wanted to get her crown back, and leave this place before she went insane.
"Yes, it would. Now, where should we look for your crown?" Spike firmly asked.
Twilight looked around. There was a tall building- which seemed to be a castle -right in front of them. "Let's start there." Twilight pointed at the building.
"Works for me." Spike jumped on Twilight's back, like always, and they set off for the castle. Spike noticed a creature, that looked sort of like Twilight, walking his dog, standing upright on two legs. He glared at Spike and Twilight. Spike poked Twilight. "Uhh, Twilight? I don't think that's how the 'new you' is supposed to-"
Twilight abruptly stood up, waving at the boy with a sheepish grin. He avoided eye contact with her, walking away faster.
Spike looked up at Twilight. "Looks like this won't be easy..."
"You think?!"
...
Eventually, Twilight stumbled her way to the castle. She used her magic to open the door. That is, before she realized her magic wasn't working, and then slamming face-first into the door. "My magic... isn't working?" Twilight said skeptically.
"That makes sense," Spike said casually, acting like Twilight not having magic was completely normal. "You don't exactly have your horn... Oops, I probably should've told you that before. We really need to find you a mirror." He said, pushing the door open with a paw.
Twilight and Spike walked into the building and looked around, taking in the sights. To her left, Twilight saw a glass case filled with seemingly important objects.
"What do you think, Spike? Other artifacts she's stolen from Equestria?" Twilight asked, peering into the glass case. She noticed her reflection in the glass and stepped back. Her ears were on the side of her head, her muzzle was really small... "What... am I?" Suddenly, a loud bell rang and the halls of the castle were flooded with other creatures like Twilight." They pushed past Spike and Twilight, clearly in a hurry to be somewhere.
"Ow! Hey!" Twilight was literally on the ground, huddling with Spike, trying avoid everyone. She pulled on her leg, struggling to move. Twilight rolled into someone.
The blue-haired boy she had bumped into looked down at her, holding out a hand. "Whoa. You okay?"
Twilight took his hand, stood up and nodded. She looked back at him as he strolled away. Something was strangely familiar about him...
"I don't think this is a castle..." Spike stated, in shock.
...
Twilight managed to make her way around the building, watching what people were doing as she went. Some people were sitting in classrooms, using their hands instead of magic. Others were out in the halls, laughing, hanging out with their friends. This is confusing. Everything is so new to me. She heard someone talking, interrupting her thinking.
"I-I just saw it there and I thought I should give it to her. I didn't know you had dropped it..." The voice was quiet, almost inaudible. Twilight peered around the conner. The girl with the soft voice had long, flowing pink hair, a butterfly barrette on one side, and one side parted over her face.
"Well, I did, and it was mine. You shouldn't pick up things that don't belong to you!" A different voice said. Twilight saw that the louder girl had curly red and yellow hair- almost like fire,- and a black leather jacket. Something seemed very familiar about both of the girls, but Twilight couldn't put her hoof- I mean, finger- on it.
"Um, well, it d-didn't really belong to you either..." The pink-haired girl shifted her eyes, trying to look anywhere but directly in front of her.
"What did you say, you retarded emo!? No wonder you have no friends, you probably have rabies from those stupid animals of yours!"
The poor shy girl made a noise that sounded like a squeak. Her eyes started to water. She covered her face with her hands and crumpled to the floor.
Twilight couldn't take much more of this. "How dare you speak to her that way!"
The flame-haired girl turned toward Twilight, finally noticing her. "What did you say?!"
Who does she think she is? Twilight stepped forward, about ready to punch this girl. "I said, 'How dare you speak to her that way.'!"
The flame girl paused for a moment, narrowed her eyes, and said: "Hm. You must be new here." She gave a little flick to Twilight's chin and sauntered off.
Twilight rushed over to the shy girl, who had wiped her eyes and picked herself up off the floor. Seeing the girl up close, Twilight realized who she looked like. Fluttershy.
"I can't believe you just did that!" The Fluttershy look-alike exclaimed with wide eyes.
"I couldn't let her bully you like that! Who does she think she is, being so mean to you?" Twilight responded, tilting her head, somewhat confused.
"Well, I mean, nobody ever stands up to Sunset Shimmer..."
Twilight gasped and turned away. "Sunset Shimmer?"
"Yes. Do you... know her?" Look-alike Flutters inquired.
"Sort of..." Twilight replied, with a bit of anger in her voice. She returned to her normal voice and smiled. "By the way, my name's Twilight."
Fluttershy look-alike mumbled something and took a step back. "I'm... Fluttershy."
Twilight thought she heard the girl say 'Fluttershy'. Maybe she was right. "Sorry, I didn't catch that." Twilight said, just for confirmation that this girl was in fact, Fluttershy.
She choked out the words again and hid behind her hair. "It's... Fluttershy."
So Twilight was right all along. I wonder how this came to be? Does everypony in Equestria have a human counterpart?
Twilight's thought process was interupted once again. She looked down to see Fluttershy fussing over Spike.
"Aww, who's this little guy?"
"Oh that's Spike... my, uh, dog!" Twilight was still adjusting to the human vocabulary. "Anyway, Sunset Shimmer said you picked something up? Something that... wasn't yours? Was it a crown, maybe?"
Fluttershy's eyes widened. She nodded. "Are you psychic? Anway, I was passing out fliers for the animal shelter like I always do on Wenesdays, when some random crown just flew out of nowhere and hit me in the head! I gave it to Principal Celestia... I didn't know it belonged to anybody..."
Twilight shook her head in disbelif. "Wait, wait, wait... Principal Celestia?! She rules this place...?"
Fluttershy blinked and raised an eyebrow. "I guess you could say that..."
Twilight didn't really care who was the ruler anymore. If humans have a different way of doing things, that's fine, I guess. Whatever it takes to get my crown back. "Uh, where would I find Princes- I mean-Principal Celestia?"
Fluttershy looked at the clock mounted on the wall. "The bell's about to ring. I can still take you there. I'm usually late for class anyway... Oh, you should put Spike in your backpack. The teachers hate having pets in the building." Twilight did so. She should've realized it wasn't the best idea to be walking around with a talking dog...
"So, Twilight, what school did you transfer from?" Fluttershy asked, as she lead the way to the principal's office.
