How Lyra became obsessed with humans.
Lost in despair.
Load Full StoryIt was an early morning in Everfree. The birds were already awake and quenching their thirst with a morning dew. One of the small critters landed on a bush, trying to reach for a relatively big volume of water that condenced inside of a flower. The branch it landed on had bent under its weight slightly, cousing a small drop of water to roll down the leaf and fall right on the nose of a disheveled filly sleeping under the bush. A cold and wet touch disrupted her restless sleep. She hesitated to open her eyes. She could hear the birds. There was a lot of birds in Ponyville. Yes, this definitely is Poniville, she thought to herself. She was visiting her uncle in Ponyville, yes. She always get awoken by the cheerfull noises from the birds that dwell in the big oak right next to the window of her room. Yes, it was definitely so. It was a rather cold morning, for some reason. Her blanket must have slipped onto the floor, yes it did. No, no reason to reach for it, i'll better curl up, she thought and tears began to form under the closed lids.
"Mommy will be calling me for breakfast anytime soon." she whispered in a trembling voice. It was morning, and morning means breakfast. Which in current case meant uncle's special pancakes. An image of her uncle cooking had emerged from her memory. Three eggs, two glasses of milk and two glasses of flower. Big spoon of sugar and a small one of salt. He would put those in the metal jar, close it tight and shake it wildly for five minutes. He would pour the liquid creamy goo onto the hot frying pan, and spread it around the surface in a thin layer. He would serve those pancakes with an orange jam of his own making. Harmony took a deep breath, trying to catch the smell of this delicacy. Her nose cought nothing, but the smell of the wet soil and chill morning air. Tears poured down her cheeks. Yes, he would, if he only weren't so agitated with the fact that his beloved niece was missing for three days already.
"I just had a terrible dream, where i was lost in a dark forest" she whispered again. All her body was aching. Her skin burned, as if it was covered in bruises and minor cuts.
"Mommy will call for me at any minute now..." she barely could hear herself whispering.
Meanhile, the clumsy bird whose actions had awoke Harmony was trying to get to the water in the flower. Her head was too big to fit through and it struggled for awhile, turning its head so and thus, until an idea struck its mind. Its was a briiliant idea by the standarts of the bird's specie. This fiendishly clever plan had utilized all planning and logical prediction capabilities of a small bird's brain. Nothing will go wrong... The bird took the petal and tilted the flover down, spilling the water away. It stood like this for a couple of seconds, dumbstruck as for what in the rotting hay had gone wrong. Failed to find an answer it took flight and hasted to leave, hoping that nobody with enough brain had seen its embarrasing failure. Not only this, but it appearred that her actions had awoken some sort of beast that dwelled in the bush...
"She will call for me at any moment now..." Harmony whimped. Another portion of cold water came from above and fell on her neck, causing her to wince. She opened her eyes and noticed the bush she was hiding under, and tall grass around it. Her hopes had been destroyed within a blink of an eye.
"It wasn't a drea-a-a-am!" she cryed loud, tears flowing down her cheeks in two mighty rapids. She was lost, hungry, and cold. She was suffering from multiple cuts, bruises and insect bites. She was all alone and nobody will find her in the middle of Everfree forest...
