Lyra's World
Prologue: Saying Goodbye
Load Full StoryThis is my farewell to the world...
My farewell to a world that I hate so much. A world that has treated me with nothing but ridicule and disrespect. A world that treats so many well, but mistreats so many more...including myself. A world that preordains talents and cares not for those who wish that they had something better.
I wish I had something better...
But no, I'm stuck with what this world decided to give to me, what it thought was best for me... A lyre; that's what this world thought would define me. A curved, seven-stringed instrument that's always being mistaken for a small harp. I both love and hate that instrument so much. I would like to think that this world got it right when it showed me the beautiful sounds that object could produce...but I also loathe it so. I hate the lyre because I did not choose it, I did not strive to become a great lyrist. My goals in this life did not include some tool used for idle background music at parties. It chose me, but I did not choose it.
The ponies...
Yes, the ponies. Both cruel and caring at the same time. They could show otherworldly neighborliness one day, and spread hateful gossip the next. They would praise the sound my melody would make on the lyre, and mock and ridicule my research the next. Hypocrites, the lot of them, especially the so-called "scientists". I use that word for those scumbags in the most degrading way possible. They don't deserve their titles of "professor" or "Dr.". They claim they let "science" and "evidence" dictate what they believe... Liars. All of them are nothing but two-faced con-ponies that only care about the grant money given to them by siting behind a desk and spewing lies. They openly my mocked beliefs and discarded my evidence as nonsense, calling it nothing...nothing but a myth.
My research...
That is where my true passions lay. My research of the so called, "mythical" and "fabled", humans. 'A beautiful creature, with dexterous hands and could walk on just two legs, capable of anything they put their minds to,' is what my grandfather would say. He would tell me of the things they could accomplish. 'With enough effort, enough courage, enough willpower, and a mind capable of anything, they could achieve things that were only dreamed about in theoretical magic books,' he would say. Cities that made Manehatten look like a village in comparison, buildings as tall as mountains, and a culture filled with diversity and wonder. A world as complex as it is beautiful, as mysterious as it is mystical.
The world where I wish I was born...
A world where I am going to live, whether this world likes it or not. I'm leaving it all behind, my pathway to the other world is open and I'm going to go through with no regrets.
My parents, who always loved me despite all the sleepless night I put you through when I was a foal. Though you never supported my research either, I still recognize your love and give you my own with all my heart. Mother, I love you. Father, I love you. However, could you both please do me a favor...please? Don't miss me, because I won't miss you.
My grandparents, but more particularly my grandfather (Sorry grandma, you passed before I got to know you, but I'm sure I would have loved you just as much as grandpa. He spoke of you more often than he did the humans.) You were my inspiration grandpa. Ever since those nights you would read those books with humans in them as if they were bedtime stories, I've been hooked on discovering anything having to do with them, no matter how miniscule or pointless it might have seemed. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you, and rest in piece.
Sweetie Drops (Yes, I'm going to use your real name in this, sorry if you didn't want anyone to find out Bon Bon.) You offered me a place to stay after I left my parents place in Canterlot. I had originally thought your home would have been nothing but a quick stop after you reacted the exact same way everyone does when I tell them I believe in humans, but I was wrong. What originally was going to be a quick bunk turned into a new home in Ponyville. Though, again, my research was considered "strange" by the public at least the local residence had the decency to keep their gossip on the down low. You never judged me though, you may not have believed in the humans like I believed, but you did encourage me to pursue my passion until the end of my days. Sweetie Drops, you were my home away from home and I thank you giving me a roof for shelter and a bed for slumber. Bonnie, you were the sister I never really wanted, and I love you so much for it, thank you.
The door is closing now, I'd better go. I went through Tartarus and back to get this door. You might think I'm using the expression here, however, I'm actually being quite literal when I say through Tartarus. Don't worry, I had a nice guide, he knew a good path to take. He said he goes by many names but the one he gave me was "Apollyon", strange name if you ask me, but I'm not going to judge him, not like this world has probably already done to him.
You all should be happy for me though, I'm getting my wish! I get to see the human world. I get live with the creatures I have wanted to be with since I was only a little filly! I get to breathe their air, live their lives, experience their culture, see their architecture, read about their theology, their philosophy! All of my dreams are coming true now... So this is my goodbye everyone.
...With all the love this cruel world I've lived in for too long can give...
