The wind blew past me as I walked through the streets of Ponyville. I was not fully aware at the time, but I knew something was different about tonight. A cool breeze wafted through my fur and mane as I continued listening to some music on my Orville. It was an interesting device, straight out of the Crystal Empire. The thing was a rectangular crystal that would glow faintly in any color you wanted and used magic to project music to your ears or just blast music to everyone around you. The device was named after its creator, a Pegasus by the name of Yule Orville. He was one of my idols, really. As an engineer, I looked up to him and his massive imagination. I wanted to see my name be well known among the world one day, to know I reached a point where I would be remembered for doing something amazing. Lucky Spirit, the next prodigy inventor. What a treat that would be.
As I rounded a corner, my train of thought was suddenly lost when I had bumped into something and lost my balance, my Orville crystal fell out of my coat pocket and I fell onto my flanks soon after. After being able to get out of my state of confusion, I looked up to see that a rather tall Unicorn stallion had blocked my path, seemingly unharmed. He had a lighter blue fur with a jet black mane, a book and quill cutiemark of both sides of his flanks to boot. Though for some reason he was wearing these sunglasses that obstructed his red eyes with ease. “Oh dear.” He said quietly. “I'm sorry about that. I didn't mean to bump into you like that.” Something about his tone was unsettling. He had a light accent to his voice, one that made him sound like one of those ponies from Great Britrot. Yet something about his voice just made my spine tingle in a bad way. “No, I just wasn't paying attention. Sorry.” I said hesitantly.
“Oh? Then I suppose I should accept that apology, shouldn't I?” He replied.
“Um... I guess?”
As if like magic, a few other ponies began to surround me, with the mystery stallion coming closer. “My friends and I were just looking for someone to talk to actually.” He said with a grin, now standing in front of me, towering over my body as I sat on the ground and shook like a child on a sugar high.
“W-What are you doing?” I asked suddenly, my heart beginning to race as the circle closed in tightly around me. The blue stallion that I had bumped into was now leaned closer, grazing my neck with his muzzle.
“We're here to help you. To make you feel better. Just relax and let us do our job...”
I did not know what happened to make me so drowsy. All I know was that my vision was blurring and there was a very small sting in my neck. As I began drifting closer and closer to blacking out, I could feel the rest of the ponies begin to lay their hooves over my body.

“Damn it, Jak! What have I told you about trying to eat the new meat before the rest of us!”
“I'll do what I want. Who cares if we weaken one of them anyway?”
“Fredrick cares, for starters. And would you really wanna piss off Scribble?”
Those two ponies bickered for what seemed like hours outside my cell. I was laying down on a soft mattress with a blanket draped over my body, a tray with some potatoes, carrots, corn, and a bowl of tomato soup rested on a nightstand next to the bed I was on, still warm by the look of the steam. It was enticing to reach out and grab some of the food since I had not eaten all day. However I resisted the urge, knowing full well that I was in an unfamiliar and potentially dangerous place. But I was too tired to really care about my position beyond this fact, just lying back and observing my surroundings.
From what I could tell, I was inside of a very elegant room, modified so that the wall facing the hallway was removed and fitted with steel bars and a door. Hence why I called it a cell. The rest of the area I could see looked like it belonged to a building in Canterlot, despite its lack of light sources beyond scattered torches. The wall paper of the room had designs depicting what looked like flowers and vines over a pale yellow background with a wood-colored lower portion leading to the soft carpet flooring. Why I was brought here was a mystery, but I at least knew I was not alone.
On the opposite half of the cell, another bed with a nightstand with food on it was barely visible to me in the darkness. There laid the form of another pony sleeping peacefully in their bed. I must have been awake for a while, but it was hard to tell. Meanwhile, the other two ponies on the other side of the bars still argued. Wait. No, they were talking quietly to each other. I did not care much in any case. I just needed some sleep. But before I could close my eyes, I heard the tumblers click as my cell door began to open. “Rise and shine, sweetie. Time for your test.” I was frightened at first and my first instinct was to tighten my grip on the covers. But I had no real reason to do so. The guards came for my cellmate, who was being dragged away while kicking and shouting. I only caught a glimpse of him and he looked me dead in the eyes in that split second, as if pleading for me to help. But I was too scared to do so.
I had trouble falling asleep from that point. I tried, but I could not find the actual desire to rest in a place like this. I needed to get out of here, but that seemed like it would be impossible. What I needed was the Canterlot Royal Guard to save me, but it would take a miracle for that to happen. If I was going to get out of this, I had to do it on my own. “Alright, curly ears, you're up next.”
Shit.
Before I could say another word, three ponies came into the room and grabbed me. They seemed to be struggling, probably because they were so used to their victims putting up a fight. But I did not give them any trouble as they carried me out of the cell and down the hall. I could not fight back if I wanted to, honestly. All I could do was ask where we were going and what they wanted from me. I made petty offers of wealth, material possessions, and even a share of profits from my workshop, but they did not care about any of those. They just continued to haul me through the building that I could now only know was a mansion.
Next thing I knew, I was thrown onto the ground with an audible thud, a groan escaping my throat as I looked around for a moment. “Thank you.” A stallion told the guards who brought me here before dismissing them. I looked up from the floor at him. He was a Unicorn, with gray fur and a dark brown mane that barely went down passed his ears. He had the same crimson eyes as everyone else around here as well. Everything else about him was a mystery as far as his appearance went. All I could tell was that he was wearing a silk robe and pajama bottoms. Typical rich pony attire. Cliche too. Who writes this stuff?
“Scribble Note, what do you think?” He said suddenly, looking to the stallion next to him. The same Unicorn that I met in Ponyville. Neither of them could tell, but I was angry. What they could tell was that I was frightened.
“She's pretty cute. I especially like her ears. Might make a good slave, if not one of us. Though I doubt eating her would be a wise choice.”
Eating me?! Slave?! What were they talking about?!
“I agree. But it is such a tough choice between the two. Then again, I am never good at making decisions like this.”
“I can only imagine, sir. It is never easy to decide who joins our family and who is used to feed us. So much potential to look at, yet only so many we can take in at once.”
“Quite.” He said before a silence filled the room. I wanted to say something but all I could do was let my mouth gape open slightly. “Actually, how about you handle this decision?”
“Pardon?”
“You've been my second-in-command for almost 50 years now. I think it is time you took some leadership roles for a while. I've been getting sloppy enough that the Guard has an idea of who I am now, meaning that if something happens to me then our family will be under your command. So go ahead and take her for yourself a while, see what she's like and return to me when you have made your decision. In the mean time, I will evaluate the others that are brought to me.”
“It would be an honor, sir.” Scribble told him before looking at me with a rather sinister grin. “Let's go then.”

I was led through the mansion again, this time on a leash and collar that was held by Scribble Note's magic. I could not have picked a worse time in my life to be hungry either. And now my stomach was growling as if there was a wild timber wolf inside of me. No wait, feral, not wild. I needed sleep. Oh Celestia did I need sleep.
Sadly for me, Scribble had no intention of letting me sleep. He seemed to be interested in other things. Eventually we reached what I could only assume was his bedroom, which consisted of dark red walls and black carpeting. There was also a huge circle bed in front of us that had white pillows of various shapes and sizes practically invading the top quarter of the bed. Then there were the covers, which were red, and the black sheets. A lamp rested on his desk, the soft white light illuminating the desk as if he was there working through the night. His papers were strewn across the desk like he had lost his temper and thrown them off and hastily put them back on the desk.. The right side contained another bookshelf with a chair next to it and a torch on the wall. Next to the chair was a bar and behind that was a large cupboard and shelves for storing drinks.
The bar was the first place he went to.
“Lily Boutique. 1209. This was one of their first wines.” He said idly as he levitated a bottle of wine onto the bar's surface with two glasses being placed in front of him as well. He invited me over and I hesitantly trotted to an empty stool. “Do you wanna hear a little story?” He asked as he poured some wine into the glasses, pushing one toward me.
“Once upon a time, I was like you. Just an average, run-of-the-mill Unicorn who worked at the Trottingham University. That was... Eighty years ago. I was only thirty-two then and was just starting out. I get abducted by these ponies out of nowhere and then wake up to find sixteen different creatures watching me from the shadows. Out comes another Unicorn from the darkness and he offers me a choice. Join his family or... Well... He was a bit descriptive with the other option and I'd rather not risk making you sick. Anywho, I reluctantly accepted, recruited more into our ranks, and after five decades of this I became the right-hoof stallion of this little rag-tag group you see now. I am a hundred and twelve years old and I don't think I've changed much. I still like younger mares, female gryphons, and drinking. You look young, too. What are you? fourteen? Nah, too big to be that age. Sixteen?” He paused for a while before nodding slowly. “Yeah, the way your blood is flowing makes me think you can't be any older or younger than that. Wanna know how I know that? Because I'm a Vampire. Or Vampony. Whatever you wanna call it. We tend to be called both quite randomly in mythology, but I prefer Vampire, honestly.”
I had to admit, he was very blunt and to the point. Kind of in a good way, despite having caught me off guard with that sudden revelation.
“Before you go asking the questions of what else there is; yes there are werewolves. Lycans too. Yes there are pixies and fairies. Yes there are ghosts. There's also such thing as Tulpas. Zombies too. Things your mother told you about as a bedtime story, those ghouls and whatever exist. And you get to be apart of that if you want.”
I had not even touched the glass in front of me or its contents, merely listening in shock to what I was hearing.
“Let me guess... Aurean, right?” He said suddenly, his brow cocked slightly as he poured more wine into his glass.
“Yes.” I responded somewhat meekly. Aurealis was originally an island to the south west of Equestria, said to be blessed by nature and beautiful. It was turned into a barren wasteland, left ravaged by the Gryphon-Equestrian over border disputes and disagreements on spoils after the Changeling Wars before Nightmare Moon had come about. For almost a millennium it remained a barren wasteland.
However, a small crack formed in the center of a dried up lake bed one day. This crack eventually sprouted a sapling. And the sapling began to grow. As it did, the land began to change. Over a period of three-centuries this sapling grew up to become a great willow tree, rivaling Magic Mountain (The mountain Canterlot rests upon) in height. Once the tree had grown, its leaves began to spread some kind of seed throughout Aurealis' ruins. What was once a desolate, unforgivable landscape turned into something beautiful. Barren deserts turned to lush fields. Dead trees turned to great forests. Old ruins were restored to their former glory in the span of another hundred years, unknowingly to the residents of Equestria all the while.
Five hundred years after the Great Spread (as it would be known as later), something strange happened. At the stroke of midnight on Hearths Warming Eve's transition to Hearths Warming Day, five acorns fell from the Great Willow and into the land surrounding the lake it towered over. Over time these five acorns sprouted and took form, growing into massive, crystalline pods. For fifty years these pods remained still, until the twelfth hour of the fiftieth year struck. At that time, the pods opened and from them emerged the first five Aureans. A Gryphon, a Minotaur, a Zebra, a Unicorn, and a Diamond Dog. Each one went on to wander the land, occasionally working with one anothim. The Unicorn, Starlight, spent him time writing stories, both fictional and not about many topics. Most history books in Aurean schools are based off of him writings. Burrow, the Diamond Dog, created the first mines to be used for collecting raw materials as well as developing the very first ever underground cities, towns and farms that were fully functional and completely safe in the case of many disasters. The Gryphon, Hawk-Eye, worked with Starlight and Bark-Beard, the Minotaur, to create the settlements above ground as well as the cities, farms, and even constructed several temples to tell the story of Aurealis before them. Bark-Beard was also able to write his own books like Starlight had been doing, mainly on combat and how the country should always look out for its people first and protect them to the fullest extent. And lastly, Vernon, the Zebra, who created an entire book of different medicines as well as creating hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies.
For one-hundred years, the five of them worked non-stop. They never slept, never ate, never even had to breathe according to some legends. But when the hundred years had ended, they vanished without a trace, leaving their (finished) work in the care of the land.
Years later, Equestrians began to notice the changes to Aurealis. After almost six-hundred years they began to finally notice that life was returning to the land. Eager and curious to discover the cause, Celestia sent an envoy to the small island to investigate and what they found was a thriving community. A civilization of its own of Ponies, Minotaurs, Gryphons, Diamond Dogs, Zebras, and many other creatures. Aurealis was given assurance that Celestia would protect them and soon enough a great relationship blossomed between the two countries as it had done so almost two thousand years before hand.
Aurealis lived in peace for quite some time, almost another three-hundred years before a mysterious wild fire spread through the country, turning my home into a wasteland once more, leaving few survivors left in the aftermath.
It was always hard to talk about it, considering how it had been my home for my entire life.
“I knew about Aurealis. I'm sorry for what happened. Heard no one made it out of there besides a couple of ponies and maybe a few Zebras and Gryphons. And most of those survivors soon died off. It's the whole reason I told Fredrick you should be kept alive. Anypony else might have chosen to have a taste of your blood. Some exotic delicacy they will never have again. But I knew there was a lot of potential in keeping you alive. Even as one of us. Think of it this way, you get to live on forever like the rest of us. Becoming a vampony has lots of perks you know. Increased endurance, heightened senses, increased strength, natural agility. You just have to avoid the sun, being out too long well leave you with a nasty burn or an even nastier case of bubbling flesh."
“I don't know.”
“You're obviously not leaving this place. It's either join us willingly or be a slave.”
I was silent. What else was I able to do but sit and remain quiet.
“Maybe I can persuade you to join us in a less traditional manner.” I did not have time to respond before he trotted over to the bed, with me inside of a levitation spell and being dropped onto the mattress. In that moment my brain froze the world around me so that I could admire how soft the bed was. My entire body felt like it was melting into the silken blankets and pillows I was laying on. As I relaxed into the paradise I found, I also found a Hell to go with it. Well... Maybe not a Hell, but it was close. Probably.
“Getting comfy, are we?” Scribble asked snidely as he climbed on top of my body. It was in that moment I realized I was kind of helpless. I was not fighting back, screaming, or even so much as struggling. I was merely trying to fall asleep. “I'll take that as a yes.”
I could barely hear him. I was just so comfortable and tranquil. I could just lay on that bed forever. I should have been scared, but I was not. How can you be scared when you know the thing you should fear is not actually going to hurt you? But then came the realization of what he threw me onto the bed for. I could see his member prodding between my legs at that moment, his muzzle against my neck with his fangs grazing over the flesh.
Without a word, he sank a third of his cock into my body, giving light thrusts at a slow pace. But as I felt like I was going to black out, I felt something begin to be pumped into my body. It burned slightly as it was injected into me, like venom through the teeth of a snake almost. The burning subsided as quickly as it came to me, being replaced by a feeling of numbness. I could tell Scribble was finished since he had moved away from my neck, looking down at me with an almost compassionate smile.
He said nothing as he got off of me, simply trotting over to his desk and pulling a mirror from the drawer. He levitated the thing over to me and I was able to see just what he did for myself. My eyes were a deep crimson and I now had sharp fangs inside of my mouth. I felt conflicted, my mind wanting me to scream in horror and at the same time wanting to smile. I figured since I was not dead, I may as well do the latter.
“I'm... I'm kind of hungry...” I did not know what I meant by that exactly. Scribble seemed to have more of an understanding than I did and nodded.
“I'll fetch a snack for you then. Wait here.” It was with that, he left the room. I laid on the bed for a moment and felt the area where I had been bitten had healed already. After I had ran over the mark, I closed my eyes and eased into the bed.
Finally, I could take a nap.
