Chapter 2- Swill, the kidnapping drunk
Previous ChapterChapter 2- Swill the kidnapping drunk
Sometimes things just don’t go as planned. Like how Meisha’s good intentions were Derailed and thrown drastically off course, thanks to a booze pounding, street fighting, roughneck named Swill. The same night that young Solar Wind was left on his new family’s door, Swill was leaving the local pub.
Swill was a town treasure. He was middle aged, but good looking, sandy coated with messy hair and blue eyes that were iconic in shady hollow. He would drink more, talk louder, and hit harder than anyone else, he also brought a good air of entertainment to the sleepy dark town.
Despite his rambunctious night life, Swill was nothing short of a genius. His name was known all over Equestria (although not many people knew it belonged to him) an engineer who worked primarily in steam powered machinery; he could create almost anything from toasters, to trains.
Every night he went to the bar, and did his usual antics, including drinking and fighting. But tonight he wasn’t feeling up to it. He drank out of sadness, not happiness, and only waved off the usual bar rats that would trade blows with him.
His head hung low as he trotted through the rich neighborhoods that were on his route home. His mind cloudy from the alcohol. It was dawning on him, that his time on the earth was limited, and now as he looked around, he had no wife, no children, and no family at all. He had left home when he was fourteen, to pursue engineering. Not caring for his parent’s vision of what his future would be like.
He stumbled up to some random house and glanced into the window. Two elderly people sat with their children, both all grown up. And smiling. Always smiling. He turned to leave, as he walked/tripped down the front porch steps he heard a faint noise, carried by the wind. It spoke to him, but he couldn’t make out what it had said. Looking around his eyes fell on a small pile of blankets. A soft whimper came from the bundle.
He stepped up again, slowly, more steady this time. And picked the blankets up, there was something inside, small but oddly shaped. He sat down and put whatever it was onto his back. Deciding he would take it back to the shop. The people had just left it outside; they clearly didn’t want it anymore. He couldn’t see quite what it was, and decided it would be more fun to open it at home. Like a Christmas present.
His pace had quickened, his natural curiosity guided his way back to the shop where he stayed. Fumbling with the key in the lock, he finally managed to make it inside. Clearing a spot on one of his metal work tables he plopped the bundle down. It made a weird thumping noise, and a sound came from inside. Swill flipped on an overhanging lamp and watched as the blankets unwrapped themselves.
Kicking around, pushing the blankets off of him was a colt. A small boy, obviously very young, not even a day old yet. The round baby rolled around and managed to sit himself up, squinting against the harsh light from the lamp.
Swill rubbed his eyes and blinked, he couldn’t believe the fortune. He had a son, a child protege to inherit his skills, and carry on his legacy. Swill saw the note hidden in the blankets and ripped it open reading the inside. As he read he realized that this child was special, and something to be cherished. He laughed and whooped tossing the baby onto his back, and trotting out the front door. Back to the bar, so he could celebrate his new family.
