Into the Line of Fire
Chapter 1: A Not-So Great Meeting
Load Full Story-5 years ago-
A lavender Alicorn was walking down the hallway, alongside an orange Pegasus.
"Why are you following me, Flash?"
Flash Sentry sharply turned his gaze away from the sudden snap-talking princess. Princess Twilight was never like this. She was usually calm and optimistic.
"I.... I thought something may be wrong.." he said nervously.
Twilight halted. Then Flash noticed the pitiful gaze in her eyes. Tears of sadness. Horrible, worrying, tears.
"My... My mother..."
Flash now knew exactly what she was talking about. Twilight Velvet, Twilight's mother, passed away one week ago.
"Princess.... I'm so sor-"
"It's not your fault."
Flash was shocked by those solid and empty words Twilight had muttered. She sounded like... she meant it, but she didn't? Flash just didn't understand the tone of the lavender alicorn. He was definitely worried now.
"Princess...."
"DO NOT SPEAK TO ME! I must be... alone." Twilight then ran off. Who cared on how fast he could gallop or fly? He could never catch up to the princess. He just stood there.
-Present day-
The cream colored unicorn opened her eyes. Her red, famished eyes. She was inside a grand palace, not the Canterlot castle, but somewhere else, far away from Equestria. She walked over to her bathroom, which was on he other side of the room. She realized that washing her face would be useless, and just plain stupid, given the circumstances of her... um... mane.... Her mane was was not on fire. It was fire. She walked over to the side of her bed, and grabbed her crown. This unicorn had long dropped the "Element of Magic", side of her. She had long since been that one lavender alicorn. Her new powers had a price. She lost her wings. But she could just make more with those fiery powers of hers. So what was the use. Another, fire-maned pony had walked in the room.
"Princess." The Fire Pony began."We're waiting in the throne room."
"Thank you, TwistFire. You are dismissed."
"As you wish, my princess." As TwistFire left the room.
Twilight sighed, and put her crown on her head. Instead of the Element of Magic on her crown, it was the Element of Fire. A fire shaped gem, that burst into flame whenever she was angry. It suited her well, given the fact she was a Fire Pony. She went down the winding steps that usually lead up to her room. As she stepped down the final stair, she looked around. Her castle was grand, but the outside was a pure wasteland. The Great Pony War had taken it's toll on her kingdom. Any pony out there now would die of starvation.
"Bastards..." Twilight muttered. Then she trotted to her throne and sat down. And waited for something interesting to happen. This was her normal day. Wake up, put crown on, walk downstairs, look outside, trot to throne, and wait. Twilight wanted to spice up her now boring life, but nothing ever happened. And she couldn't do anything about it. Twilight hadn't seen her friends in 5 years. Luna had perished. Celestia was helping to protect what was left of Canterlot. Shining Armour and Princess Cadance hid the Crystal Empire away. And Twilight was left to rule the kingdom of the Fire Ponies. Just then, TwistFire entered the room, bursting with terror.
"Princess! These people, they keep demanding to see you and-"
"Calm down, TwistFire. Now tell me, what has happened." said Twilight.
"Well, 5 ponies, they suddenly entered the castle, demanding to see you. When we refused, they started to attack us. A few of the guards are injured."
"THEY ATTACKED MY SUBJECTS?!" Twilight then literally burst into flame.
"They. Will. Pay."
"Princess, the're dangerous. You shouldn't go after them on your own."
"When somepony attacks my subjects, I'LL be the dangerous one."
Twilight walked into a narrow, but large hallway. She looked around, and saw many of her soldiers injured or unconscious. Twilight let out a low growl, and continued walking. She reached the end of the long corridor and suddenly stopped where she were. Making TwistFire bump into her.
"WHERE IS SHE?"
"Calm down, Pinkamia."
"Don't speak my name so casually, unicorn!"
"Shut up, both of you! I know we both hate eachother, as soon as we get her back, we can split up again."
"Fine."
The 5 look at Twilight and TwistFire. One had a long, pink mane, clearly brushed for hours. This pony had ice-blue eyes, and a scar over her right eye.
"Pinkie Pie?" As Twilight recognized her old and former friend.
"FINALLY recognize me bitch? You left us out there all alone, because of you, our Elements of Harmony don't work anymore!"
Twilight was in shock and in worry on what Pinkie had become, while her next former friend spoke.
"We're here for the Element of Harmony... And yourself. Where are they?" Rarity said.
Twilight snapped out of her trance of worry and spoke,"Both long gone. No use looking for them now. And I'd appreciate if you'd leave my castle, or I...." Twilight's mane was more fiery now."Will personally escort you.
As her old friends left.
"Twi, I'm so sorry this had to happen." AppleJack said.
At these tense but soothing words, Twilight felt a little twinge in her heart. She wanted to take back what she said. She wanted to burst out crying apologies at the top of her lungs. She wanted to be what she once was. That lavender, intelligent alicorn, who cared deeply about her friends. But it was too late. The damage had been done. Her friends were now gone.
"Princess...?" TwistFire had said. TwistFire had noticed that a long, flowing tear had been dropping off of her cream colored cheek.
"I need to be... alone."
Just with that, Twilight ran off, just like she had in front of Flash Sentry five years ago.
