The lilac unicorn rubbed her orange eyes and rolled over. "What time is it?" she mumbled to herself. She looked at the clock in the room. eight o'clock. Her droopy eyes shot open "Eight o'clock? I overslept! The princess said she needed to see me!" She jumped out of bed and had rapidly started getting ready. "I'M LATE!"she yelped. Megabyte then ran to the main hall to meet Princess Celestia. Trumpets sounded as the Alicorn princess walked to meet Dawn. "Sorry I'm late, Princess. I overslept. What was the surprise you were telling me about?" "Oh, it's fine. I wanted you to meet certain pony." the princess said. "She was my best student, and she is going to be part of your final test." Suddenly, a violet alicorn walked in. "Hello, Princess Celestia. What did you need me for?" The princess smiled. "Twilight. I would like to introduce you to Dawn Star, one of my other students I worked with while you were sent to Ponyville." "Hi." Dawn said timidly. "You two are going to work together on a mission. I'll explain after you have breakfast." The princess left. Twilight looked at Dawn. "Well, I guess we better hurry!" she said. And they trotted to eat breakfast at one of the many cafés in Canterlot. They arrived at Café Le Derp. As they sat down to a table a waiter came. "What would you like to order? Dawn and Twi looked at the menu. THE ONLY THING WAS MUFFINS. After they ordered, Twilight made a desperate move to start a conversation. "So... Dawn, what are your interests?" Dawn looked down at her cutie mark. "I like astronomy, and video games." She avoided eye contact while she talked. "I got my cutie mark by manipulating stars." Her horn glowed brightly. A star shot out of the sky and into her hoof. She blew on the star, scattering sparkling dust everywhere. "Umm.. okay." They finished their muffins and left the cafe. They walked inside the castle. Twilight thought about Dawn and if they would get along as they went into the castle. Princess Celestia was there "Come you two, it is time to explain. Come with me." said Celestia. She lead the two unicorns to the Royal Library, where a large book was on the table. When she saw it, Dawn gasped. Her heart skipped a beat. "Advanced Time-Travel by Star Swirl the Bearded." she read with awe. "Time Travel?" choked Twilight. "Yes." the princess said. "I am going to have you two travel to the past, 1000 years ago." "The times of King Sombra, Nightmare Moon, the founding of Equestria, and..." Dawn said "Star Swirl the Bearded himself!" finished Twilight. "Yes. It will be very dangerous, but I am sure you can handle it." said Celestia. "I want you to uncover secrets in the past that I could not when I lived in that age. And there have been legends about a strange artifact guarded by an evil unicorn. It is unknown who that unicorn is, but they could be very dangerous." She turned to them. "Are you up for the task?" "Of course!" "Yes!" Celestia smiled. "I am glad you are sure of yourselves. Oh, and because it is extremely advanced, do the spell together." "Got it." Twilight said. "Good. Be careful on your journey, Twilight and Dawn. Goodbye." 'Goodbye!" they chimed. Their horns each glowed, one a deep fuchsia and the other a silvery ice blue. Beams of light shot out and interwined each other. "My head hurts" moaned Dawn. They struggled to stand. When they got up, they noticed a cave. "Let's go in." said Dawn "Let's not." said Twilight quickly. "Come on Princess. You scared? Where would Harry Hoofdini be if he didn't take risks." urged Dawn "Oh, I don't know, how about ALIVE?!" yelled Twilight. Dawn ignored her and continued into the cave. Twilight sighed. She was beginning to have second thoughts about the tomboyish unicorn. With her heart in her throat, she followed Dawn. They went into the cave. Dawn thought she had heard a noise. She shook her head and went deeper. Suddenly a voice yelled. "Intruders!" Two angry azure and purple eyes appeared, glaring at them. "W-we're not intruders! We're lost!" exclaimed Dawn. The eyes stopped glaring. "Oh, thou is not a spy? Come in then. It is foolish of us to think that thou is. One of our noble kind is accompanying her." A hoof came out of the darkness and pointed to Twilight. The duo gasped as she emerged into view. A white alicorn with a golden, flowing mane and a cutie mark of two wings and a horn walked in. "Let me introduce myself. I am Empress Starlight, leader of the alicorn tribe." "Dawn Star." said Dawn. "I'm Twilight. I thought there were three tribes." said a puzzled Twilight. "Ah, most mortals think that. But our tribe stays well hidden. My cousin, Celestia, was born into this tribe. Unfortunately, she left, not thinking that we need to stay hidden." She hung her head. "The mortals were impressed at her uniqueness for being a Pegasus and a Unicorn, and crowned her princess. She was a smart one." "Didn't she also have a sister? Princess Luna?" asked Twi. Starlight's eyes shone. "Thou is a bright one. Yes, she did have a sister. She always treated her like nothing. Horrible, if you ask us." Twilight was about to open her mouth to yell, but she was silenced by Dawn. "Are there more alicorns?" she asked. "Oh, yes. Sadly, only four. Girls!" she called. Four alicorn fillies zoomed by her side. One was a pale mint green with a brown and pink mane. She was introduced as Lily Bloom. Her cutie mark was a diamond and a lily. The others where a lavender, blue, and white one named Wind Slash, a fire-coloured one named Flare, and a strange alicorn with fins called Splash. "You two can spend the night he-" She was interrupted at the sound of loud buzzing. A swarm of changelings flew into the room and started attacking the empress. The changelings carried a unicorn stallion wearing a black cloak that covered his face who shrieked "Kill the goddess!" The changelings angrily started attacking the empress. She was covered in golden blood, gasping violently. "Leave and save yourselves." she whispered with her last breath. She dropped to the floor. The fillies cried in veangance. They leviatated two daggers, one jet black metal, studded with pink diamonds, with a purple hilt. The other was bright silver, with a pale green hilt studded with sky blue diamonds. They threw it to them. "The Dusk and Dawn swords. The dusk goes to to thou alicorn and the dawn to thou unicorn." muttered Lily Bloom. "The swords belong to thee, now. Go! We'll fight the changelings!" The fillies turned to the changelings and started fighting. Heeding their words, Dawn and Twi galloped out of the cave.
