Many thousand years ago, one day the sun was setting in Equestria. It was beautiful as the last lights of the sun reached the ground. The sky faded into black but there was no moon on it. In the eternal darkness the two alicorn princesses were standing on the ground beside the Canterlot castle. They lighted the dark ground with their magic. The elder said:
“ I can’t believe it. Your first moonrise. It’s so exciting!”
“Yeah it is… ” Said the younger. She was visibly nervous.
“Are you ready, Luna?”
“S…sure.” Luna looked at her sister. “ I…Is the moon heavy?” she asked.
The elder sister laughed.
“Do you want to lift it by your hooves?”
“Tiaa!”
“Kidding. There’s nothing you need to be afraid of.”
“But still…It’s huge.”
“And you have magic what’s strong enough to raise it. You can do it. I believe in you, Luna.”
“Okay. I can do it.” said Luna and she spread her wings.
She got away from the ground and started to fly up to the sky. She felt the cool night’s breeze on every feather of her. It was so relaxing. Luna loved flying since she learned how to.
The princess remembered she didn’t want to fly because she was afraid of height. But sister reassured her.
“You can do it ,I believe in you Luna.” she said, and it worth it.
Her first glide was fun. Scary, but fun. Ever since she became a little older and flight is not a problem. But this time was different.
This time she had a quest . To bring the moon for every pony in Equestria. She thought that they need the light in the dark. The hope in the eternal black hole. They need her. This thought made her stronger.
As she got high enough she cast the spell. Then she started to fly upper, and by the magic, the moon followed her way.
Celestia on the ground saw her sister. The shadow of the little princess was tiny by the huge moon’s light. She knew that Luna was born to control the moon but she was still proud of her.
“I did it! I did it! Did you see me?”
“Of course you did it and of course I saw you. Your first moonrise…It’s so beautiful.”
“It is…” She was concentrating so hard, it was the first time Luna looked at the sky. The grand moon was bringing gentle light to the darkness. Now they could see all the landscape. All the trees and the towns were enfolded in silver light.
Her sister’s magic wasn’t strong enough yet to raise the moon too, so it was the first time she saw true night since their parents gone.
“This is all yours.” said Celestia, then she smiled at her little sister.
“My…night” Luna said. She was proud. She really can do something too. Something abiding for Equestria. And all the ponies of Equestria. Their loved subjects…
But there was no one of them outside except the princesses. And Luna realized it soon.
“Umm…Tia?”
“Yes?”
“…Where are the ponies?”
“They are… sleeping.”
“Sleeping?”
“Yes… Since I couldn’t raise the moon, the ponies couldn’t see anything in the dark and fear reached their hearts, so they locked themselves into their homes and sleep.”
“But… Now… Now it’s bright and beautiful. They can see everything. Everything they want! Why are they still inside?” The little princess was fighting her tears. She didn’t understand.
“Luna…I’m sorry. These ponies are need to sleep… as you and I. I don’t know why but…”
“…They are hate the night.”
“What? No… they are not.”
“They doesn’t know it truly, and they are judging, and hurting it. The night...My night…Me.”
Her tears were flowing on her face as a river. She broke inside. Her happiness turned into disappointment and hatred. She didn’t love her subjects anymore. She thought she isn’t beloved of them. Just Celestia. Because they are all awake and happy by the day, but her night is despised.
“Luna…please…”
“No… Just leave me alone… As I’ll always be.”
Then the little princess walked away.
The moon’s light was shining on the sky. Luna looked up. The moon looked so lonely, she decided to make friends to her. Luna concentrated, and cast a spell, by millions of lightning dots appeared on the sky. They encircled the moon and it wasn’t lonely anymore. That’s how stars born. Like little lighters they shined the sky better than ever. Luna looked at the sky, sighed and flied back to the castle
Celestia was the only one who saw her. She smiled and thought: now,her sister will be all right.
And nothing has changed for a thousand years...
