"Have a nice weekend, Miss Cheerilee!"
As each happy looking school colt or filly hopped past and said their own cheery goodbye, Cheerilee smiled and wished them all a happy weekend with a bright smile and a calm voice. However, as soon as they had all safely left the room, she faceplanted her desk and let out and gruff "Thank celestia!" she sighed and kept her worn out face there for about 2 minutes.
The door creaked open and she emotionlessly raised her head to face the headmaster of the school standing in the doorway.
"Afternoon Miss Cheerilee! Happy to know you are still here!" he smiled broadly as her lips stayed a thin line, "Anyway...I was wondering, would you direct the school band?"
She burst into loud laughter and wiped her eyes "Oh God...you crack me up! Me?!?! A SCHOOL BAND! Can any of them even play anything?" at that moment; three filly's and a colt shuffled awkwardly into the room, one of them was twist, she had a flute in her left hoof, the second filly had a blue curly mane and purple coat.
"H-hi...M-m-miss..Cheerilee...I am a singer but I can play the t-trumpet!" the filly, who was clearly younger then the rest stuttered sort of happily before the colt stepped forward.
"Hi...I play....the piano the drums and the glockenspiel"
"Bless you" said Cheerilee sarcastically, "Oh come on! There is hardly the means to direct a school band here!"
The purple filly spoke again: "Well...umm...really all you need is-"
"Love?" said the colt.
The filly glared at him and continued "I was going to say...A piano can do nearly all the parts and once you have one bass and a woodwind for briges and riffs; you have a basic piece of music and I am sure more and more people will join!" The filly seemed to bounce with exsitement at the prospect of talking about, or makeing music.
Cheerilee looked over the three smileing Foals and nodded reluctantly "ALRIGHT! I will do it!"
"Thats the spirit! Do yo have time now!" The headteacher carried on smileing.
"Ummm..not really, I waen't going to do anything, but-".
"GREAT!" And with that he left the room, leaveing the three children.
Cheerilee looked at the door in disbelife "well then, umm...play something?"
Twist looked up at her "Well we need music, part's and a song to play..."
With that, the purple filly opend her saddle bags and put down three pices of music all saying "Over the rainbow" . One was a flute part,one a brass and one a piano "I found these for practice!".
Cheerilee stared at her "How long have you known the school was going to have a band?".
"About a week.".
"Well it's a good job no one told me! It's not like I would have to deal with it!" Cheeilee fumed.
"Well we have this to play now" started twist "all we need is a conductor".
"This is going to be a difficult year" and Cheerille face planted the desk yet again. "I honestly do not care if this works!"
This time the colt got a small stick out of his saddle bag and put it in one hoof usuing the other to hit as many notes as he could on piano.
"Wow...these are actually quite good..." Cheerilee silently mused to herself.
After about an hour of the same song the foals started to get a little worn out but they all smiled everytime they hit a note, Especially the purple filly who clearly had not been playing the trumpet for that long.
Once done cheerilee lifted herself of her chair and hugged all three of the small ponys "WE CAN DO IT! WE CAN DO IT!" she set them all down and beemed at them..."So...same time tomorrow?"
"Right! from the top!" Cheerilee held the baton in her mouth and fumbled through her music sheets. "We have the school show comeing up! and this year for some reason, we are doing The wizard of oz! now...what is our cast?"
The purple filly, who Cheerilee had now learned was named Fillyphonic, steped forward "well we have...AppleBloom as Dorothy, Sweetie belle as glinda, Scootalo as the scarecrow, Silver spoon as tin man, Featherweight as the cowardly lion and...as the wicked mare of the west we have...umm...me..."
Cheerilee looked down at her "But we need you in the band? There are only three of us! and you are the only brass player!"
"Well I-I...I only have the one solo! I can run too and from the band pit!" Stamerd fillyphonic "I mean I know it's not Ideal! But-"
"But nothing! I mean, If we have to do it like that then we will but I can't belive you even auditioned!" Cheerilee said softly, but sternly.
At the time of rehersals it was a pin to move too and from the band pit and stage, especially when her purple coat had been temporeraly dyed a shocking green for the show . When it finally came to filly's song she looked scared and was shakeing on the stage, even at rehursals, but as soon as se stared she was fine.
"Wow...that Filly can SING!" Thought cheerilee out loud "Better then she can play brass." she now thought silently as not to offend her or her friends.
