Throughout his life, Michael has tried to do the right thing. His life has paid him back with some very terrible results. One night, everything changes. He goes to sleep, just as he would any other night, but the entire world fades from his mind by the time that he awakes again.

Finally awake in the hospital, Hokey Smokes is toold his name. This is one of the few things that he is told, and the few things that he knows about his life. Vague dreams, potentially memories, hit him. He sees himself as a bi-pedal animal. As he tries to figure out what exactly happened, he still has to deal with the world at large.

Are these dreams part of something bigger? Is Hokey Smokes his name? What strange things have to happen for him to finally remember who he once was?
