Fallen Sun
Chapter One
Load Full StoryThe lands of Equestria were left in chaos. A war that would not be forgotten, for it had nearly destroyed the ones who could remember it. Only they know of what happened: two will go on to live for eternity ruling this land at some point later in their lives; another rules the spoils of the war till he is turned to stone; and the last will only hear of it from dying parents.
Alicorns, one of the strongest of the four pony tribes, had ruled over the lands of Equestria and beyond before the war. Life was full of joy and happiness. That came to end when the bringers of chaos came to take the land for their own use.
The war lasted for many years, the graves grow massive from the bodies of the perished. The other tribes, pegasi, earth ponies, and unicorns rallied behind the alicorns during the war, but they did not take the help that was given to them. They didn’t wish for any more bloodshed by the other tribes, and so chose to take on the bringers of chaos alone.
The other tribes far north where the fighting wasn’t as heavy. Near the end of the war, the alicorns knew that something had to be done to make sure that they wouldn’t die out. With this in mind, the most powerful ones came together to create a spell to ensure that some their would survived.
The spell was finished too late to help many. Acting quickly, the alicorns cast the spell on the last two of the royal family before hiding them deep in the castles and hiding the notes of the spell after it was finished. The war ended as the last alicorns want to hiding and the sole survivor of the bringers, Discord took rule of the lands a few years after the ponies in the north moved down and founded Equestria. Alicorns found looking for food harder and harder to find. Most have died out from hunger, but two somehow found enough food to last a while, but soon they found that when their child was born that food was not going to last long for them.
Now this is where the start of the story for Fallen Sun beings. The young alicorn filly jumps around her parents as they moved through the forest in hopes of finding something to eat, if not for them, for the filly. They named her Fallen Sun cause of the color of her mane was like the last light from the sun. Fallen Sun never learn the pain and hardships that war brought, just knowing that she was with her parents and that was all she wanted.
The forest in which they used to gather food, also their home. It was safe from the rule of Discord, but it also meant that they could not really leave it’s safety in fear of Discord finding them. So the life of the forest was the only one Fallen Sun knew, she was too young to care much about it. She was more worried that she wouldn’t be able to catch a butterfly that was fluttering past. She was galloping after it with all her might and was tipped up by a little tree root that was sticking its self out of the ground.
Fallen Sun looked up at her father and he could see that she was about to burst out crying. She was a sweet and sensitive filly, that was the one thing her parents loved about her. Fallen Sun moved a hoof to wipe away the tears that had already made their way down her face. Looking back at the root that had caused her to fall, she give it a little pat with her hoof. “It’s okay mr. root, you are only doing what the mark give you the ability to do.”
Looking back at her father when she heard a little laugh. How could he not laugh at his daugher actions, it was like she was in tune with how the world flowed inside the forest. The two of them went back to trying to find some berries and other things they could eat, but it was growing harder and harder with each time. Fallen Sun was in front of him and stopped once again when there was a cough that scared her, turning to see her father leaning on a tree for support.
Fallen Sun didn’t want to admit that her parents were growing weaker as the year moved on. She rush over to his side and give him a nuzzle to his side, he looked down at her and smiled. “Thank you my little Sunbeam, but daddy will be fine. Just need to rest a bit.” Her give her little head a rub with a hoof. “Why don’t you go on ahead a bit and check out some bushes for berries?” Fallen Sun nods and did as her father asked, she wanted to believe him when he told her he would be alright.
She didn’t got that far ahead of her father, finding a bush that she thought might have a good amount of berries. Fallen Sun closed her eyes and felt for each berry and slowly used her magic to lift all them off the bush and had them gently land in the basket on her back. Looking back and then down, the basket wasn’t as full as she had hope for. After the disappointment of not getting that many berries, she returns to the spot that her father had taken a break.
Her father smiled when his little girl came back with some berries. He would need to help find more if they want to have a little more to eat. Fallen Sun nuzzled him and helped him move down the path, his strength was coming back to him and soon he would be able to walk without her aid. The two went around to all the bushes for what few berries were left after the last time they had pass through for food.
Heading back to the cave that had become their home ten years ago, Fallen Sun and her father had come back with three baskets full and one half full. It was a good amount this time, but it would only last them a few days if they spared it out. Fallen Sun’s mother was waiting outside for them to make it home. She was over joy at what was brought back home, it would be enough for them all to have fully bellies for a day and have some left over.
Fallen Sun’s father want to rest a bit before dinner, while her mother would get dinner ready. Dinner wasn’t always the most eye catching thing, but it tasted good. Fallen Sun was bouncing up and down next to her mother as they being to make dinner. It was one thing she loved to do with her mother. It was at these times her mother would show her how to make some really good food out of what they found. And if she was really lucky and good, her mother would tell her stories about life before the war.
Once dinner was done, they would spend it talking about the different things that happen throughout the day. Fallen Sun really like this time of the day, it was where she got to spend time with both at the same time. It was at this time that she truly took in how little they ate and how much they give her. She never really notice at first, but she being to see it. So this night she give back the extra bit she was given. Both her parents frown at this, a worried look being to grow on their faces.
“What’s wrong my little sunbeam?” Her father asked worryingly.
“Nothing, father. I’m just that hungry right now. And plush you and mother need to eat a little more.”
“Me and your father will be okay sweet. But you are a growing filly and needs all she can eat to grow up and be a strong alicorn one day.” Her mother said in a voice that was common for mothers. Not wanting to fight with her mother, knowing that in the long run she was right. The rest of the meal was eaten in silent. Fallen Sun want with her father to clean what they had used during the meal. It wasn’t much but it was still something that needed to be done after each meal.
Once cleaning was finish, it was time for Fallen Sun to go to bed. She always loved going to bed, because it meant that she would get to hear a great story or something from her mother or father that night. And right before she fell asleep, they would whisper to her that she would be the next great alicorn. They want her to feel like she would be something in the unknown life before her, believing that no filly should live a life of fear. Who knows, my she would be the next great alicorn.
Fallen Sun would fall asleep believing that she would be the next great alicorn. Her dreams would range from her from freeing all ponies from Discord to her ruling a kingdom and everypony loving her. These are dreams of a filly who only knows of love from her family, not a life of fear and horror that her family had seen before she was born. Her parents worked hard each day to make sure that it stays this way.
The life for the family was like this for while, the only thing that change was where they look for food and who cooked that night. But every night ended with them telling Fallen Sun a story and whispering in her ear about how great she would become. Like every good thing that can happen in life, it can turn sour very fast.
Fallen Sun was sleeping very soundly till she felt somepony shaking her and yelling for her to wake and get moving. Not wanting to really get up, she try to move away from the pony, but with no luck. The pony keep trying to wake her up. So giving in, she slowly open her eyes and sees the frighten look of both her parents faces. They was trying to get her to get up faster.
“Come on sweetie, we need to get going now.” Her mother whisper into her child’s ear, the hint of fear evident in every word. This cause Fallen Sun’s heart to being to race in a way that scared the young filly. Rushing to her hooves and about falling back over in her haste.
“They are coming!” The shouting was coming from the front of the cave. Fallen Sun knew that voice was her father. The rush that her parents put her into left her will little time or ability to think about what was going on. Before she could even ask what was happening, there was a loud boom and the cave began to shake and fall apart around them. This was just like the stories her parents told her of when the great war started. The room ponies would be living in would start to shake and fall apart around them. They never really told her what happen to some of the ponies, but she could fill in the blank.
From where she and her mother was in the cave, it was a good ways from the opening to the outside world. Fallen’s mother was running along side her, below them a shadow was growing bigger and bigger. The rock was too big for them to get out of the way, fear caused Fallen Sun to close her eyes. Right when she thought she was going to end up like a bug under a pony hoof, there was a bright flash of pink light and the feeling of tiny pebbles falling on her.
Fallen Sun open her eyes to see that her mother’s horn was glowing faintly with a little lingering magic from a spell. She could see that it had taken a lot out of her mother, but with the world around them falling down around them, they didn’t really have time to stop and rest. Her father was standing at the mouth of the cave waiting for them.
Her father didn’t waste any time once they reach him. Her mother and father pulled her close and then touch horns, then in a sudden flash of pink and blue light they were nowhere near the cave or any place that Fallen Sun remember seeing. Before she could take a better look of her surroundings, both her parents collapse on the ground. Fallen Sun had a look of fear, the world she had known had just came crashing down around her and now her parents were laying on the ground. She didn’t know what to do, mind racing to what was she learn, which now seem like it was a lifetime ago.
Fallen Sun walked moved around them to check to see if they were still breathing. She knew that if they were still breathing, then that means that they are still alive or she hope so. Feeling that her parents were okay, she being to look around the place that they had popped to. It was the decaying ruins of a city. There was sing’s that a huge fire once burn it’s way through the city, holes and stains of blood could be seen on walls and buildings that hadn’t been burn during the fire.
Screams filled her head as the world around her being to spin. Flashes of the past being to flash before her. Alicorns were running all around her and screaming in fear as some shadowy things chase them. Fallen Sun curls up on the ground crying, wishing that the images would just go away. The memories and little magic from the fallen alicorns hadn’t faded from the area and not knowing how to block this out, her mind was flooded with every bit of it. It was just too much for Fallen Sun to deal with and she passes out next to her parents.
