Little Monsters In The Mirror.

A Rude Awakening.

“Ohn …John wake up.”

The voice that you heard was my sister. Her name is Mallory, and she's 19 years old. She is two years younger than me, and she acts like a six year old at times. Even though she's younger then me she can come up with the greatest ideas that I wouldn't even think of. She may look small but she is really good at parkour and she knows self defense.

“John you’re going to be late again if you don’t get up now.” she said with a pouting face.

As she says that, the sound of alarm begins to chime.

“Don’t worry, I got-”.

“Bull!” She shouted to cut me off. “You probably sleep through the alarm if I didn’t wake you! You can’t get up for something that could change your life to save it!”

She gets silent for a moment to see I could hear her after that or to watch me writhe in pain of getting yelled at with maybe less than a foot from my ear. With a retaliation action I cover my ears and rolled over to see her face to show her that I heard her being loud and obnoxious.

She moves over to the alarm clock off and looks at the door.

“Now get up, mom wants to talk with you.” saying that with a somewhat low note then letting out a sigh.

I sat up to see if she’ll tell me more on the matter.

“What's up?” I ask with a slightly perplexed face.

“She's mad with you-” she said with an odd face with another sigh.

“-and dad too.”

“What?” I look at her while knocking my head off to the side in confusion.

My mom was always onto me about my life choices, as if I was a dead spot on her life trying to make her miserable. Her lifelong goal was to have three children and they all achieve her expertise, I just didn’t make the cut just because I was born a male.  My dad on the other hand was alright with me doing what I wanted to do with my life. He was always that dad that you think that he was brewing beer in the basement, with a stupid blow up guitar that was from his childhood toy and always, ALWAYS looked like a he was always high like a kit. On one side of the corner you have some that has some control problems and on the other hand you have someone that just doesn't a crap if you were shot by a nearby mobster, sounds fun right? You are mistaken.

“Why? Well, I understand why mom want me-” I ask with a sarcastic tone then my tone gets low.

“But why dad?

She just shook her head and shrugged.

“No idea.”

Well this is great, Not only do I have an angry mom that probably has a million things to say to me about stuff that I can’t undo, but I have a super easy go lucky dad that’s upset at me as well.

“This doesn't concern you old man!" The floor barked.

Mallory and I both stare at the floor.

“Please, just go talk to them before they start to throw stuff at each other again.” Mallory says anxiously.

I let out a sigh in hoping that she was kidding, but she was quiet.

“Fine, I’ll take one for the team.” I said while hanging my head down.

As Mallory exits the door closing the door behind her she places a small note on my computer desk and notions that I look at it before I leave the safety of my room.

I get out of bed but some pants on then pick up the note that Mallory left behind.

Happy birthday John!

I would get you something, but we both know what you want to do today

Hear have five dollars, for your new found pastime.

The note had a five dollar bill folded on the inside. After reading the note I look at the back side of the note to see if she ripped it off from one of my school work papers to see that it was indeed blank.

“Huh. Well, she wasn’t as bad today as I expected”

I look to my calendar to see if I am doing today, only to see that I'm free from school all day and tomorrow.

“Mallory you ding dong. You were yelling at me knowing you’ll get away with It.” I say out loud in annoyance.

Then I started thinking about what I was doing before now. I was sleeping right Or was that a vision of some sort?

I shake my head thinking about the dream/Vision that I had with that person called Celestia. No idea on what she/he was talking about. I don’t even know what I'm even looking for? Am I looking for people or objects? What if they are being held by someone that wants these things Celestia told me about. Are they trying to keep them hidden; and if they think I’m on to me will they run away to keep me from having these things from me? Or worse, try to kill me.

Well if that whole thing was a real threat that means that something was coming at us. But I don’t know what. Yet...

Oh I never told you about me did I? Well as you know my name is John Sterling. I'm the lazy one of my family, and I don't really care. If I told you that I know a lot of really cool things, like that super cool kung fu move from the movies; I would be lying...really hard. As you probability guess I like to complain a lot even though its hard to say that I don't. I don't get along with a lot of people, and don't have many friends. I would like to say that I was trained to be loud. On top of that I can drive most of the trucks that you would normally see on the road now and days, as well fix them if they have problems running. I dabbled in a little bit of knife throwing for self defense and was pretty good at it, though I hope that I never have to put my training to the test on some one. So yeah, now you know me, well a little more now anyways.

I get fully dressed for the day with a polo t-shirt and carpenter jeans, looking at the mirror to see how I looked before I get scolded for something I did wrong in my mom’s eyes. Maybe if I look

innocent I'll get out the house in under fifteen minutes. Maybe even get Mallory some time away from mom while I’m at it.

“If I weren’t me, she wouldn't be angry at me for long.” I jokingly say in front of the mirror making a few possess afterwards…

“I know right! Like that would be like, Sooo rude!” A mysterious voice coming out of the mirror.

“What the!?” I jump away from my mirror in a little of a panic, only to trip over some wires from my not so tidy room and land on my back hitting my head.

“And you know what?! The voice continues. “I think it’s going to be your lucky day! Like, so lucky that every-pony see your big bright smile-” the mirror continues to talk about how today is going to be great then goes into how you smile is going to do something.

I shake my head to see if it would stop it, after a little bit the voice from the mirror disappeared. I get back up and walk to the mirror. I take a look at the four corners of the mirror to find nothing odd with it.

“Hello?” I ask the mirror to see if would talk like it did before Only to look like an idiot. I let out a sigh there after.

“Well then” In relief.

“Some peace an-”

I talked too soon, I could hear something or someone getting hit with a pan of some sort.

“Hey! Hey! Stop hitting me! That hurts!”

Okay I've been in here for long enough. That was dad getting hit with frying pan being wielded by mom. You'd think that this is a funny image, but I assure you that it’s just as fun getting hit by one.  No doubt that she's well over boiled by this point, If I confronted her now she’ll get another one to try to hit us both.

I shrug and say. "Well that’s going on... Doubt I’ll be able to talk to them now.” with a smile on my face. After that

I grab my wallet and cell phone.

I slowly exit my room so mom wouldn't noticed that I left my room, sneak down to the main floor to see if Mallory was safe to grab. I slowly walk down the stares to see her sitting and waiting for me as if she already knew this would happen. Without saying anything we get our shoes on, grab a key to the house and car and left the house.

“Surprising." Mallory said while we both let out a sigh then continuing her sentience. "It only took them seven minutes to have an all-out brawl this time.”

“Really? Well sorry for~”

“Let’s get lunch.”  Mallory cutting me off implying that she doesn't want to talk about it.

“Hmph. Fine, where at then?”

“Well since you did leave me to just watch them bicker back and forth. Hmm...” She puts her hand on her chin thinking.

Why do I feel like this day is going to suck the cash out of my credit card? I never like it when she does this. If I’m right about this she is going to say-

“TGIFridays!" I’ll call for reserve a set for us and my friends!”

God I hate it when that whole brainwave sync up game.

“I might even call Trevor to see if he’s open today.”

Trevor is my older brother; He is a big time naginata samurai fan, he also went to get classes for it too. He got a scholarship to a big university for crazy hard trigonometry not even a year ago and Haven’t seen since then. If there was anything I had a question about, I would ask him before both my parents. He's a really cool brother to have. I feel like I take him for granted before when we were kids, though he'd always got me back in tenfold.

“Pfft, good luck. He’s in that big time university now remember? Besides he properly had too much homework right now anyways.” I respond to her.

“You never know. He is the old brother you know.” She said texting while speaking.

“I don’t think the Big brother is watching thing applies here Mallory.” I tell her coldly.

“You never know John.”

She taps on her phone a couple more times before putting her phone away.

“Okay then miss Must-Have-Everything-Her-Way. Who's Driving?” I ask in a sarcastic way.

“Hmm. Why yes, I do get everything my way.” telling me as if I gave her a realization in life. She walks up to me and punches me as hard as she probably could without braking me in two while taking the keys in the process, then runs to the car.

“I’m driving!”

“Like hell you are!” I retort in slight annoyance.
