Usually, there is nothing of interest at the far edge of a solar system, just an endless expanse of cold gas and drifting dust particles so thin that air would seem like an impenetrable wall. It is a peaceful region, undisrupted save for a few stray asteroids. But nothing last forever. The peace is suddenly shattered by a truly enormous construct travelling barely below the speed of light. An impossibly strong magnetic field surrounds the it, stripping away electrons from the atomic nucleus, totally ionizing all particles in the construct's path and deflecting them away.
It resembles a mushroom, its circular front shielding the rest of its cylindrical body.
Small controll thrusters engage, and slowly the construct turns, until the enourmous engine block at the end of the cylinder faces forward. After a few moments, it lights up with an intensity to put the local star to shame. It decelerates so quickly that any normal object would be shredded into dust, but the construct endures. In thirty seconds the construct has decelerated from ninety nine point nine nine percent of the speed of light to a mere five percent. With the deceleration done it rotate back to its initial position and continue on its journey towards the inner system.

Twilight is pacing restlessly in her room. Tomorrow is the 1000th year of Nightmare Moon's banishment, and the prophesied day of her return. Twilight tried to warn Princess Celestia, instead, she was told to make friends.
How does making friends help? It's all just a waste of time!
Maybe I should relax, its only a mare's tale right? Some fresh air would help.
As Twilight walks onto the balcony, her eyes are drawn up towards the motionless full moon.
How boring would it be to live on the moon? What can she do up there anyway? The surface of the moon looks like a desert, must be really boring spending 1000 years there. Or could there be something hidden...
Twilight snaps back as a bright star appears out of nowhere. Then another, and another. Four new stars appeare, forming a slowly rotating square around the moon. These new stars shine brightly, brighter than anything else in the night sky, even rivaling the moon.
“What!?” Twilight exclaimed.
How is that even possible? Stars don't simply appear out of thin air! Am I seeing things? Wait...
"Legend has it that on the longest day of the thousandth year, the stars will aid in her escape, and she will bring about everlasting night."
The stars will aid in her escape! Oh Celestia, I need to warn everypony now! There might still be a chance.
Twilight rushes out of her room, bowling Spike over in the process. The empty streets of Ponyville flash by Twilight as she races towards the town hall. Up in the sky, the fey lights spiraling dance brings them closer and closer to the moon.
The mayor is halfway through her speech, when Twilight enters the Ponyville town hall.
Princess Celestia's ever vigilant royal guards stand unmoving beside the stage. They alone know where the Princess is, and Twilight needs to find the her as soon as possible. Halfway through squeezing through the sea of ponies between her and the guards, a shiver runs down her spine, her eyes are drawn towards the window, and she freezes. The four stars are a hair's breadth away from the moon, and in the blink of an eye they vanish in it's shadow. After a few tense seconds she starts moving again, just in time to get blinded by a brilliant flash of light. The entire town hall is lit up like daytime, the glow finally fading after a full thirty seconds. There is no sound, everypony too shocked for action. It was the most awe inspiring sight the have ever witnessed.
Then Pinkie Pie starts stomping her hooves.
"That was a super duper fantastic trick! It's like a super big firework! I wanna know how the Princess did it!" she exclaims.
The entire town hall burst into cheers and stomping hooves.
"Silence!" one of the guards shouts. He's clearly worried. For the normally stoic Royal Guard, that's bad. The hall turns quiet, even quicker than it all started.
"That's not Princess Celestia... it's the return of Nightmare Moon," Twilight whispers to herself in the ringing quiet.
"It appears that at least some of my little ponies still remember me," Nightmare Moon chuckles darkly as she walks onto the stage where Princess Celestia should be.

"Ugrrr...."
With a flash of magic the ever growing pile of books gained another member. Books and scrolls littered the library floor, Spike had given up cleaning long ago. For three days and three nights Twilight had searched for an explanation of the awe inspiring phenomena, but it was all in vain.
"That book was useless," Twilight's horn flashed, trying to get another book from the bookshelf, but none came.
"Why are there no more books? You know what? This is pointless, there are no explanations to anomalies."
With that, Twilight stopped her search for an answer, what she do not know is that this particular anomaly signified the beginning of a new age.
