A Granted Wishby ManesChapters"A Request""Young Orphan"Epilogue: A Granted Wish"A Request"Saying thank you may be the two hardest words that friends share. We like to see ourselves as independent and not needing anyone's help. When a friend does something for us, it is difficult to humble ourselves by thanking them. Believe it or not, as strong as your need is to believe yourself independent, your friend may have an even stronger need to hear the words "thank you". Your friend will appreciate that she is also a contributor to the friendship. Today Rainbow may meet a pony and instantly know that they will become best friends forever, though other friendships develop over an extended period of time. In some friendships she may feel a sense of equality, while in others there may be a clear sense that one is giving more to the friendship then the other. There are no rules about how a friendship has to be. If you are able to share your life with another pony, by all means go right ahead. All friendships are unique and special in their own way. Each one is valuable. It was a bright sunny day in Equestria. The sky was painted a bright blue and the shiny green grass glistened in the sun. The fiery ball of light was shining ever so brightly, and the cloudless sky was as blue as the sea. Rainbow Dash woke from her slumber and got up from her untidy bed. She stretched out her limbs and moaned when she heard her connective tissue crack. After deciding that it was time to start her morning she went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. Pouring in Wonderbolt's cereal and some milk into a bowl, she sat down and began eating. After she finished eating she put the used dishes in the sink, washed them, and walked ofout the manor to start her day. As if luck was working against her, a grey mare came plummeting into Dash out of nowhere, letters flying everywhere. “Watch it Derpy!” Dash shouted, removing Derpy off her. The grey mare helped Dash up, and brushed her off. “Sorry I just don't know what went wrong,” she said, after she finished. Gathering up scattered letters Rainbow found one with her name on it. “I see you were about to give me this?” Rainbow said sarcastically. “Yup, well I'm off, see you later Rainbow Dash,” Derpy said, then took off to deliver mail to another pony's house. “That mare needs to watch where she's going,” Rainbow said to herself. She looked at the return address on the letter. “Ponyville's orphanage,” she muttered. Curiosity getting the better of her, she ripped open the mail and began reading the letter. Dear Rainbow Dash, You have been selected to grant one filly a wish in our, "A Granted Wish Program for Orphans," at Ponyville's orphanage tomorrow. The wish is spend one day doing activities with the filly. Once you have granted her wish you will be paid a substantial amount of bits at my assistant’s desk. I'll hope you will accept this letter, please respond as soon as you are able. Officer and Chief, Magic Summers Rainbow felt horribly insulted. She's the Element of Loyalty for Celestia's sake. I have never helped a pony out just for their money. Rainbow went into her room, and grabbed a parchment and quill to write her response to the letter. Dear Chief, You tell that kid to get ready because I'm gonna give her the best time she will ever have. I understand the kid's wish I mean, who doesn't want to be around my awesomeness? As for the bits, keep'em you forget who I am, and which Element I represent. Yours truly, Rainbow Danger Dash After finishing the letter, Rainbow nodded in approval, and took off to deliver the mail to the orphanage. Waking up from slumber again Dash's mane was a mess, and she had bags under her eyes from working the late shift at the weather factory. She could still smell the sweat on her body after a her slumber, not something you want to wake up to. She started stretching out her limbs and especially her aching back. Hearing the connective tissue crack she let out a satisfied moan and yawn, then went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast again. Same food, cereal and milk again. Rainbow took a shower, and went out the door to start her day. Instead of Derpy ramming into her, the letter was left out in front of her door. She must have learned from our last encounter. The letter was addressed from the same orphanage that sent her the last letter. Wondering what was the chief's response to her letter, Rainbow quickly ripped the letter open and began reading it. Dear Rainbow, Sorry I forgot you're the Element of Loyalty. I informed the filly through special communication. She jumped up and down in excitement because she was overjoyed that her idol accepted the summons. She even gave me a list of things she want to do with you and it's a lot, but we'll only be doing three of them. I'll be waiting in front of the orphanage with her. Please make this the best day ever for her, she been waiting for this and I would hate to let her down. Please Rainbow Dash, grant her wish. Officer and Chief, Magic Summers Rainbow's goal today is to make the some filly's wish come true and have a great time. Nothing will stand in her way to prevent her from achieving her goal. “You're Rainbow Dash, nothing will stand in your way,” Rainbow said, then flew out of her manor the sun beamed upon her face. Her gaze was locked onto the cloudless sky, a shining blue that could allow her feed off of its beauty and fly forever. As she flew to the orphanage she said with determination, “Nothing at all.” Life is filled with Dreams, dreams which give our life meaning and inspire us to change. Rainbow dreams about change and improvement, she set goals, seemingly impossible goals, goals which challenge her, and dream about the future. When she will reach her goals? When her life will change for the better? Without our dreams, life and society would be hopelessly dull. "Young Orphan"Flying at high speed Rainbow Dash arrived at the orphanage. She landed on the ground and walked to the front entrance where she was greeted by a state member seated near a table with a big banner that read, “A Granted Wish.” “How may I help you?” she asked with a smile, dragging her attention away from her paperwork and onto the cyan Pegasus. Rainbow walked up to the Unicorn and looked around for any sign of a mare with a filly. “Yeah, I was supposed to meet a mare with a filly 'cuz I'm suppose to spend time with the kid,” Rainbow said. The Unicorn went searching in the pile of paperwork laid on the table and took out a sheet of important looking paper, presumably the attendance sheet, out of the pile. She looked over the attendance sheet for a moment, then asked, "Is your name Ms. Rainbow D. Dash," Rainbow nodded, “The one and only!” “Well the 'one and only' she's inside waiting for you.” Not taking a moment to respond Rainbow rocketed through the doors sending them swinging back and forth repeatedly at high speed. “Some mares,” she uttered under her breath, and got back to her paperwork. Once inside, Dash went to the assistant’s desk. The mare behind the desk is none other thanPonyville's brightest mare, Twilight Sparkle. “Hey Twilight, what are you doing at an orphanage?" asked Dash, landing in front of the desk. Twilight stopped doing her paper work and turned her attention to Rainbow. “Oh hi Rainbow, I work here every time this program opens.” “Why? Don't you gotta worry about the library?” “No, Spike always fills in for me until I come back.” "Well anyways, I'm here to meet a mare by the name of Magic Summers, she has a filly for me that I'm supposed hang out with today." “Oh, you mean the boss, hold on minute,” Twilight said, she went from behind the desk and into the halls of the orphanage. Rainbow went to the couch in the waiting room and waited for Twilight to come back with the boss. Still feeling exhausted from the night shift, Dash quickly fell asleep on the soft couch. “Wake up Ms. Dash!” shouted a mare. “WHOA!” Rainbow jumped straight up then plummeted face down toward the floor, but she quickly recovered, catching herself in midair. Standing in front of her was a see note muddy green mare with a blonde mane and a smiling grin as a cutie mark. “I can see you made yourself comfortable,” she said sarcastically. Rainbow grunted and looked up and down, examining the mare to see if she looks like boss material. “I take it you're Magic Summers?” Rainbow asked, the mare passing her unofficial test. “Indeed I am,” she replied, extending her hoof Rainbow Dash shook her hoof showing that she does, in fact, have manners and looked around for any signs of a small filly. “So where's the kid I suppose to spend time with?” “She's right here,” said Magic, moving a little to the side and revealing a small orange filly with a purple mane. “This is- “Scootaloo,” Rainbow finished with a shocked expression. Out of all the times that she had hung out with Scootaloo never once did she mention her parents, nor did Rainbow ever think to ask about them. “You know it each other?” Magic asked, sounding surprised. Rainbow nodded then walked to the filly and knelt down to her level. Staring into those lavender eyes made Rainbow's heart ache, knowing that she hadn't been there for her. “Scootaloo, I'm so sorry,” she said, as a tear ran down her face, “I didn't know.” Scootaloo looked at her idol with a worried expression, seeing Rainbow about to cry worried her. “She can't hear you,” said Magic sadly. “What!?” exclaimed Rainbow. “She can't hear you,” she repeated, “She's deaf, she can only communication through sign language now.” Rainbow's heart ache doubled ,not only was she an orphan, but she was deaf too. “When did this happen,” Rainbow said with a cracked voice. “Four months ago,” she said, “She was in an accident, she tried to kill herself by jumping off the rooftop. She was lucky she only lost her hearing and had afew broken bones,” Rainbow gasped then looked at Scootaloo, who still was worried, “SHE WHAT?!” “She hated being alone so much she couldn't take it anymore.” Magic Summers reached in her pocket and pulled out a note, handing it to Rainbow. “She left this note before she did it,” said Magic. Rainbow grabbed the small scrap of tear stained paper and read it to herself. Dear everypony, I am an utter piece of trash, And you'll be better off without me. It wouldn't matter if I killed myself anyway. Everypony walked past me like I'm a ghost or I'm just not unimportant and you choose not to noticed me. All the parents who came to the orphanage didn't want me because I couldn't fly. Rainbow Dash stopped hanging out with me because she too busy for play time. Being a blank flank while the other fillies in the orphanage have cutie marks. So this is a goodbye hope you have a happy life because I didn't. Scootaloo. . Rainbow Dash quickly pulled Scootaloo in a hug, letting the tears fall full force. “I'm so sorry, I wish I was there for you Scoots, I don't care if I have to face Celestia myself I'm gonna make this the best day you ever had.” Rainbow broke the embrace and ruffle Scootaloo's mane which made her laugh. Scoolaloo started doing signs with her hoofs. “What she doing?” asked Dash. Magic smiled and replied, “She said she so happy you're here.” “Well tell her I'm glad to be here with her." Magic signed, "Rainbow is glad to be here with you,” to Scootaloo. Scootaloo smiled grew larger, threatening to split her face. She pounced on Rainbow, tackling her to the couch, hugging Rainbow tightly, her grasp getting tighter with every passing second. Rainbow felt something wet on her coat, she looked down to see Scootaloo crying into her chest. Scootaloo started to doing sign language to Magic, who translated for Rainbow. “What she say?” asked Rainbow. “I'm not alone anymore.” That made Rainbow choke out a sob and hug the filly crying with her. “No, you never were,” said Rainbow, as Magic helped the pair off of the couch. Rainbow, Scooaloo and Magic Summers walked out of the orphanage. “So, where do you want to go first?” asked Magic, handing Rainbow Scootaloo's list of things to do. Rainbow had a devilish grin on her face as she looked over the list. “You'll find out soon enough...” she said, still grinning. Epilogue: A Granted WishRainbow, Summers, and Scootaloo arrived at the door of Sugar Cube Corner where Dash had Scootaloo's surprise hidden. She had originally intended for the surprise to be for a different filly, but Scootaloo would have just as much fun as anypony else. She had flown here after she had gotten the letter from the orphanage to ask Pinkie to throw a party for the filly. She told Pinkie to gather up only their friends and as a bonus, Rainbow called in a favor from the Wonderbolts that they owed her for saving their lives. “Rainbow, why are here?” asked Magic. She had asked Rainbow where were they headed a few times and now was the time for her to answer. A smirk appeared on Rainbow's face and she placed her hoof on the door, ready to reveal what she had planned. “Because of... THIS!” she exclaimed, forcing open the door which revealed all of the ponies that had gathered for the party. “SURPRISE!” they all shouted. Scootaloo bounced in excitement seeing all the ponies gathered and looked up to see a banner that read. 'WELCOME TO YOUR PARTY' Scootaloo couldn't help but sob right in front of everypony which caused some concern. Rainbow and Summers quickly rushed to her side to comfort her and see what made her cry. “Scootaloo, what's wrong?” Magic signed. “ A party thrown for me, I'm so grateful," Scootaloo signed to Magic. Rainbow waited for Summers to translate with Scootaloo had told her. “What's wrong with her?” she asked, with a hint of fear in her tone. Magic smiled at Rainbow, “She's fine,” she reassured. Rainbow sighed in relief. She was worried something bad had happened to Scootaloo when she had started crying. “SHE FINE!” Rainbow called out, and everypony sighed in relief. “LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED!” shouted the DJ, sliding a hoof on the record player and the music started to blast out of the speakers. Everypony started dancing excitedly. Rainbow, Magic, and Scootaloo were dancing together, laughing and screaming in joy. Rainbow picked Scootaloo up in her forelegs and started throwing her up and down in the air. Scootaloo was laughing so hard she hardly had a chance to breath; she was having the best time of her life. All her days of pain, loneliness, and regret seemed far behind her. After several minutes of dancing Rainbow decided she had enough and sat down near a empty table by the window. She was watching Scootaloo sadly as she had fun hitting the pinata with the stick she held in her mouth. The candy that came out was immeaditly stolen by Sweetie Bell and Applebloom, who were currently being chased by Scootaloo. Magic Summers walked over to the table and sat across from Rainbow, “What's the matter, Ms. Dash?” she asked. “It's just... I could have been there for Scootaloo, I could have prevented her accident, but instead I had a letter let me know of her accident,” Rainbow said. A tear from her eye slid down her cheek. “Rainbow, look at me,” Magic said. Rainbow remained staring outside of the window, not even bothering to look at her. “I SAID LOOK AT ME!” she demanded. Rainbow full attention was now on her. “You, listen to me! You didn't know, how could you? It's not your fault, but that filly,” Magic said, as she pointed to Scootaloo, who was still playing with the other fillies, “is having the best time of her life and you made it happen. She looks up to you, and I-I...” Magic voice started to crack with sobs. “I would have been happy to have you watching over me.” . Rainbow felt like a jerk for making Summers cry. “Hey look ,” Rainbow apologized, calming Summers down. “It's just that I was like Scootaloo when I was a filly. Alone, afraid, in pain, but I didn't have anypony like you, unlike Scootaloo,” said Summers tearfully. "I admire your love and care towards Scootaloo. I have been caring for Scootaloo since she came to the orphange, and I can say that you have really made a positive influence in her life." “Wow I didn't know you felt that way,” Rainbow said, shocked. “Thanks for listening, Rainbow. Please, that little filly's dream come true,” Magic said, then went to check on Scootaloo, who was currently eating a slice of cake. After hours passed the party was finally ending. Everypony went home and Scootaloo got to ride on Spitfire's back when she flew around Ponyville. Spitfire was even nice enough to give Scootaloo a special edition autograph, complete with a small display case. Scootaloo fell asleep on Rainbow's lap while Dash and Magic were talking about her. Rainbow took Scootaloo in her forelegs and carefully flew her to the orphanage while Summers galloped behind. Rainbow had to wait in the waiting room for Summers to come out so they could talk more about Scootaloo. She was reading a Daring Doo book while she was sitting and loving ever word of the story. Summers kissed Scootaloo on the forehead and whispered, “Goodnight,” then closed the door behind her. Summers came back and sat down near Rainbow with a smile upon her face. “Thank you, Rainbow,” Magic said, before giving Rainbow a kiss on the cheek which made her blush. “You really granted her wish today, you're truly her hero and mine.” Rainbow looked at the list Summers gave her earlier and said, “Not yet I haven't.” On the list were five big words written by Scootaloo in multicolored crayon. Those were the words Rainbow was determined to make happen. 'CAN YOU BE MY MOMMY?
