PONIES AND 16" GUNS: Equestria's Warships
We'll meet at Mareway
Previous ChapterSunday, Febuary 3rd, 1946 (Earth Period)
GLA/Gorgon occupied Mareway Naval Base.
Mareway Atoll, Central Hoofcific Ocean
01:30 Hours
In the past weeks since the Gorgon defeat in the 'Battle for the Equestrian Seas' both sides have been preparing for the upcoming 'Hoofcific War'. The backbone of the Gorgon Navy had just arrived at the occupied Equestrian base and have begun preperations to convert the atoll in an inpenetrable fortress that can repel the largest of naval assaults and withstand a ten year seige by a million troops. However achieving this goal will cost time, resources and manpower. Fortunately for the GLA Slavers, they have access to the large numbers of Equine POWs throughout the atoll.
Down at the captured naval base on the east end of the island, most of the piers are flooded with troop ships and supply transports. The transports aren't due to be unloaded for a few hours leaving most of the base empty with a few guards to patrol the docks. Leading an entire army was one thing but infiltrating a heavily fortified island base was completely new to General Patton having stowed away on a freighter that arrived from the Gorgon mainland, now he has to sneak his way past the guards and out of the base before sunrise but he had plenty of time.
Having criscrossed though the small city of containers and eluded several patrols, an exit was finally in sight. Carefully looking around for any guards but sees none, he makes a move for the exit. From there he'll have to make his way to the military headquarters.
MAREWAY H.Q.
02:00 HOURS
After a brisk thirty minute walk, Patton was in sight of the island's HQ. A basic stone fort but it's structural material being replaced with the stronger Gorgon Obsidian material. At the front entrance he spots two night guards; a Minotaur who looked like he spends too much time at the gym, and a griffon who doesn't like having the jokes put on her. Not far are a couple more guards around a camp fire while Gorgon Sentries look out for trouble on the fort's high walls.
The chances of getting in were slim, he'll have to find an alternate way in or convince the enemy that he's on their side.
“Hey, Iron Will, what time is it?” The Griffon asked the Minotaur who pulled a pocket watch from his slightly oversized armor chestplate.
“Iron Will says... Oh two hundread hours on the dot!”
The Griffon simply gave a quizical look.
“It's military time for two a.m in the morning, Gilda.”
“You know it would be easier if you said two o' clock...” Gilda shook her head. “And isn't our new General suppose to here by now?”
“You know our generals, always running late.”
“Too true...”
“A general always runnin' late is a bad general.” Patton mumbled.
Looking towards the rear of the fort, he makes out the silhouette of dock extending back from the rear of the fort.
'Looks like I'll have to take my chances going in from the back door.'
And with that thought said, Patton slips back into the tropic shrubs and sneaks his way towards the rear pier from the beach. By the time Patton reached the pier, more activity breaks out around the fort. As additional Sentries manned the wall a contingent of troops storm the pier, forcing Patton to dive under before he was spotted. Seeing what the commotion was about, A loud buzzing noise of a slightly decorated gunboat was approaching the dock. Patton couldn't see who was on the boat but it was obvious it was transporting someone important.
The Gunboat's engine shuts down as it's moornings have been secured, the person of interest exits the boat with his escorts and start their way back to the fort. Peering from cover Patton carefully scans the parimiter once more before slipping back underneath the pier.
Manehattan
07:00 hours
Several hours ahead of Mareway's Time Zone, Celestia's majestic sun rose from Equestria's East and shines down on a fully recovering city of Manehattan. Thanks to U.S action during the 'Battle of the Equestrian Seas', the United States armed forces had once again faced all odds and successfully defeated the Gorgon Navy and prevented a possible GLA invasion on Equestrian soil as U.S, Austalion, Crystal Empire and Equestrian reinforcements arrive in time to relieve the Seventh Fleet. Standing on the flight deck of the docked USS Saratoga, Admiral Nimitz spent what free time he had this morning to take in the massive coalation fleet building up inside the harbour and the growing Equestrian Zepelin Fleet in the skies around the city.
But what really got him up was to oversee the arrival of the Austalion Eastern Fleet. Joining the Sydneigh and Hoofberra are five Guided Missile Destroyers, five Giuded Missile Cruisers and one Guided Missile Battleship.
“Never thought I see so many ships in one spot... let alone all being warships.” Twilight's voice broke Nimitz' focus.
“It's something you'll get used to during wartime.” Nimitz replied, lighting a cigar.
“I hope not, I've aleady seen a lot suffering for the past month.” Twilight shook her head.
“Then lets hope this is the last time this city is attacked.”
“Agreed... I see the Austalions have sent their Support Group from the Eastern Fleet.”Twilight points out towards the futuristic ships sailing past Harmony Island.
“How much do you about their Navy?” Nimitz asked.
“Not much.” Twilight shook her head. “All we know is that they got their technology from the Kangaroo Union.”
“I thought the Kangaroos were a tribal nation?”
“That's what we thought when the first settlers arrived on the east coast one hundred and fifty years ago. But at the time the nation was divided between the East Tribal-Lands who wanted to maintain their tribal ways, and the Western Union which also comprised of tribes united themselves to build a powerful nation which would become an industrial giant when the settlers made first contact with the Union.” Twilight explained.
“So what happened after that?” Nimitz asked with growing intrest.
“After that, the Union offered aid and assistance to help build colonies for the settlers. The leader of the colonisation mission, Govenor Geoffrey, wanted to learn more about the advanced nation. But the Union refused to reveal anything about their technology, fearing that word would get out across the world about them and other nations would try to gain access to them. So Govenor Geoffrey asked 'What would it take for us to gain access to your resources?' The Kangaroos told him to cut ties with Equestria. Geoffrey did what they requested.”
“I'm guessing Celestia didn't take kindly on that?”
“After that, Geoffrey sent a letter to Celestia saying that the colony was overwhealmed by Changeling Slavers and the survivors were forced into the sea. And we never heard from them again till twelve years ago...”
“So it took curiosity and possibly greed to lie to the Princess just to break off and take the technological jump with a nation that they just made contact with?”
“That's what I assumed at first, but I never really got time to read up on the modern history of Equestria.”
“It's never too late to update?” Nimitz suggested.
“I guess so...” Twilight agreed.
“I'd better be going, Celestia is holding a meeting with the other top brass prior the Austalion Admiral's arrivial.” Nimitz starts his way towards the island stucture of the carrier to disembark.
“I'd better head back to the Missouri, still have a lot of work to do in solving the spell the ship is under.” Twilight joined the Admiral where both disembark the Saratoga and made their seperate ways.
ONI HQ
War Room
12:00 Hours
It's only been a few years after the Office of Naval Intelligence was founded after Austalion and Kangaroo Union warships showed up on Equestria's doorstep, but Celestia wasn't expecting it to be this busy. Princess Celestia stood at the main entrance of the War Room, alive with non-stop activity. The room is a massive circular hall fifty meters in diameter and divided between the main floor, which takes up 80% of the space with circular tables that goes all the way around the circular hall with four isles that leads to the strategic map which sits on a lower platform which takes up the remaining 20% of the space.
“I'd never thought it would ever get this busy?” Celestia said to herself.
“Not as busy as CINPAC though.” Nimitz spoke.
“Ah, Admiral Nimitz, and a good morning to you too.” Celestia turned to see Nimitz joined by Admiral William Halsey, General Carl Andrew Spaatz, and newly appointed Supreme Commander Douglas MacArthur.
“Princess, this is Admiral Halsey of the U.S Third Fleet.” Nimitz points to Halsey.
“How do you do, your Highness.” Halsey shook Celestia's hoof.
“And this is General Carl Andrew Spaatz of the United States Army Air Force.”
“Hello, Princess.” Spaatz took Celestia's hoof.
“And you remember Douglas right?” Nimitz points to MacArthur.
“Ah, Supreme Commander MacArthur.” Celestia shook MacArthurs hand. “We meet in Washington when I meet your leader, President Truman.”
“Thats right.” MacArthur replied.
“She was in Washington?” Spaatz whispered to Nimitz in slight shock, to which he replied with a slight nod.
“Anyone seen our Aussie guests?” Celestia asked.
On cue, the main double doors opened, revealing a small group of Austalion Ponies and Kangaroo Officers entered the room. The flurrying activity in the room was dropped to a dead silence, some of the Kangaroo Marines gripped their weapons tightly while several ONI Agents readied stun spells and Equestrian Royal Guardsponies move to protect the Princess for when the tension breaks and everyone starts shooting. The Americans present know what was to occur if someone doesn't defuse the situation quickly.
“You must be the Austalion Admiral?” Nimitz spoke out the Unicorn leading the group.
“Depends who asking?” The said Unicorn faced the American Admiral.
“Chester Nimitz, United States Navy.”
“Oh! You must be the Aliens from the alternate world, no insult intended.” The Austalion beamed.
“None taken, Admiral...”
“Geoffrey, Admiral King Geoffrey Jr. Son of King Geoffrey Snr. of the Austalion/Kangaroo Congress of the Austalion/Kangaroo Republic.” The Unicorn Spoke his name which shocked some Equestrians, including Celestia.
“Geoffrey...” Celestia spoke “The last time I heard that name was on a scroll sent by him to me that the colony was being overrun by Changeling Slavers.”
“It has been... What, one hundred and fifty years ago.” Geoffrey replied.
“Indeed. Gentlemen, we'll go over the offensive plans another time.” Celestia spoke to the American Officers before turning back to Geoffrey. “We need to talk, in private.”
“Yes, Ma'am.” Geoffrey replied as both parties exited the War Room, minus the Americans.
“What the hell just happened?” Halsey demanded in confusion.
“I don't know... But I know somepony that might know.” Nimitz replied as he started his way out.
“Where are you going, Chester?” MacArthur asked.
“For a walk. Carl, can you see if the Equestrians can give us a copy of the map for us to go over privately?”
“Sure thing.” Spaatz nodded his head in agreement.
“Alright, i'll see you guys on the Iowa.” Nimitz left the War Room. “Just hope Twilight's caught up on her history.”
