Decision
"378. Not even half of what the ranks should be." Tarkus said reading over the headcount.
"Our chapter will die if we are not prepared for the battles to come. Hunting for the black legion will be even more difficult with our low numbers. Training grounds must be set. Our first step was planning a fortress monastery on Meridian. Now we must find suitable training grounds." Angelos said
"Why not also on Meridian?" Diomedes asked.
"A hive world? That's not a good idea." Martellus said. "We must find a place more suitable. Calderis is a candidate."
"There is better." Cyrus said thinking for a moment.
"First off, is it in the sub-sector?" Angelos asked.
"Sort of."
"Good enough. Tarkus I am giving you command of the first company or whatever is left of it." Angelos said. "Cyrus, take command of whatever is left of the tenth and continue training scouts. Martellus, consider yourself the new master of the forge. Many of the captains whom had resisted corruption were killed by Kyras. Any word from Armus or Thaddeus?"
"None. We cannot try and find them without even a proper chapter." Diomedes said. "I fear we may need to be at full strength to mount any dangerous expeditions."
"Very well." Angelos said stopping to think. Shaking his head sadly thinking of the two great warriors Kyras had sent away because they refused to help him.
"Cyrus, where is it that you plan on going for our new training grounds?" Angelos asked interested.
"Equestria."
"And...... Angelos changes his mind about Merdian. Too much trouble from what I heard." Tarkus said packing his things.
“Why haven’t I heard of it if the planet is so close then?” Diomedes asked as they got together their gear. The Litany of Fury was now in orbit of Equestria.
“Because it was a secret for a long time. About 14 years to be exact.” Cyrus said. “It was Thule and Angelos’ secret as well as many of our battle brothers.”
“So is this planet.... harsh?”
“ Some places are great for hive cities while others are nests for things like dragons.” Martellus said. "But to answer your question, some places are, some places aren't."
“Aye, let’s not forget the wildlife.” Tarkus added. “Everything, yes, everything there had once existed on holy Terra. Whether in texts and legends or had actually physically existed. The natives range from dragons to multi-colored horses that are rather small in comparison to their Terran cousins.”
“The natives are however primitive.” Cyrus added. “They come in the form of pastel colored equines.”
“So... they’re xenos. Why weren’t they killed?” Diomedes asked.
“Had it not been for them, we may be still stuck on that planet.” Tarkus said. "Most thanks we could of given them was not have them killed."
“Most of the natives are rather naive. Some are too friendly for their own good and will welcome you with open arms no matter who you are.” Cyrus continued remembering things for a moment. “Others will cower before you if you as much as look down on them.”
“And let’s not forget the one who was afraid of her own shadow. Fluttershy, she called herself.” Tarkus said remembering his past experiences.
“Due to their nature.” Martellus began. “It is highly likely they will not mind it if we use their planet for training grounds. Not that they have the power to refuse us.....”
“So you’ve been making friends with xenos?” Diomedes asked. “You’re on thin ice brothers.”
“Do not for once doubt our loyalty like you had before.” Cyrus spat out venomously.
“I never.....”
“Just be quiet both of you.” Tarkus said breaking up a potential fight. “Listen, the plan is that we may stay for as much as one year if necessary. We will locate every single potential use the planet has. Something we honestly should of done previously.”
“And remember, because of the closure of the rift, time has probably fluctuated for both of us. When we arrive, it could've been a hundred seconds to a hundred years for them. Proceed with caution as if you don’t know anyone. The drop pod is headed for the most densely populated area closest to where we last landed.” Martellus finished talking and got his gear and went into the pod.
Down in Equestria, it was snowing. Of course, it was that time of the year again, where bells tolled and carols were sung. It was none other than hearth’s warming eve. This time the six friends had gathered in Canterlot, with spike happily rambling about how he got to narrate again this year.
“Twice in a row now!” Spike said happily. “I get to narrate again!”
“Too bad we don’t get to act again.” Twilight added. “Oh well, at least I get to watch now!”
“Aw...... I was totally ready to nail it again!” Rainbow Dash whined. “I really wanted to play again!”
“Me too! But now I get to sit and watch!” Pinkie said bouncing up and down.
“Or maybe bounce up and down and watch.” Applejack muttered.
“So.... how ‘bout another game of I spy while we’re at it?” Twilight suggested. “I spy...... a giant candy cane!”
“I spy Sweetie Belle!” Rarity said nudging her younger sister.
“I spy some holiday cookies!”
“And I spy...... some fillies who got their tongues stuck to the candy canes!”
“AND I SPY A GIANT THING FOR SPACE!” Pinkie said suddenly.
Everyone looked around and burst out laughing thinking it to be one of the pink mare’s jokes.
“No seriously! My Pinkie sense says watch out for falling objects!” Pinkie Pie said which caused Spike to wisely run indoors.
And right on cue, a giant red drop pod fell from the sky and went crashing into the street sending debris and screaming ponies everywhere. The craft had made a massive crater in the street.
“Sweet Celestia!” Some pony said. “That nearly crushed some pony!”
"Aliens!"
"Wait, what if....."
The hubbub continued. With the mane six looking at each other, wondering..... just wondering... if a few old friends decided to come back.
“And we’re in a crater.” Tarkus said rolling his eyes. “Alright, let’s get out of this hole and see where we’re at.”
“Sensors indicate many life forms around us. I think we are in the right place.” Martellus said. “About six.”
“I’d expect there to be more if this was supposed to be an urban area.” Diomedes said hoisting himself out of the hole and giving his brothers a hand. Turning around, he saw six colorful equines and a small lizard like creature staring at him mouths open in surprise. Around him, snow plastered the ground and the buildings. All over the street was it full of colorful horse-like creatures who seemed to have nothing better to do that stare at him curiously.
His hand started straying for his bolter, but then he remembered about what his brothers had said. Deciding against it he continued on helping his brothers out of the crater.
“Well, here we are.” Tarkus said. “With many horse aliens staring at us.”
“HEY I KNOW HIM! THAT’S TARKUS!” A Pink colored alien said as she jumped at the space marines prompting Diomedes to reach for his knife.
“Easy, Diomedes.” Tarkus voxed. “Save that for those who actually deserve it.”
“HEY I KNOW YOU! AND YOU! AND YOU! But.... wait... I DON’T KNOW YOU. LET’S BE BEST FRIENDS!” Pinkie said going on and rambling about subjects from balloons to friendship.
“Away from me alien!” Diomedes said drawing his knife out.
“Whoa there big guy! Easy with that!” Rainbow Dash said stepping in front of Pinkie Pie.
“Why ya don’t go pick on someone your own size?” Applejack asked at the indignant Diomedes.
“You calling me a coward xenos?!”
“What? No. Not at all.... ah was just....”
“Curb your tongue Diomedes.” Tarkus said. "Now then, can we just get going and do our duty?"
“Visibility will be low. My calculations is that the snow will continue to fall even harder after this.” Martellus said. “There are not many ways off this mountain. That's not good......”
“What is it?” Cyrus asked
“Temperature will drop at about -37 degrees Celsius in about 3 hours. We must find shelter.”
“Well we were just headed to Canterlot castle for the annual Hearth’s warming eve.” Twilight said. “You should come! Warm fire, lot’s of food, typically due to the fact this is the coldest night in the year, we don’t leave till next morning.
“Seems we have no other option.” Diomedes grumbled. “Let’s go. Seems finding a proper training ground will have to wait." To his surprise, his brothers had no problem with this, and some even seemed to share friendships with some of the xenos that they followed. In the back of his mind, he couldn't fathom how his brothers could even as much as tolerate these aliens. Then again, Angelos must of had something to do with it.
To see the play, there was of course security every pony had to pass through. Rules were simple, no pets, no cameras, no potential hazards etc. Like most guards assigned to a duty like this, the one at the post paid no mind to what he was dealing with until Cyrus arrived with his other brothers.
“Stop!”
“What do you want?” Cyrus asked in a voice cold enough to freeze water. This shook the guard up a bit as he was not used to resistance or as a matter of fact, giant aliens who looked strong enough to rip a pony's spine out.
“Sir..... what.. um is that device on your back?”
“Mark IX sniper rifle.” Cyrus said.
“What does it do?”
“Kills ponies that are bothering me with endless questions and should rather be minding their own business.” Cyrus said walking by the guard who looked too visibly shaken to make any efforts to stop him. Wisely, the other guards decided not to stop the other marines that walked by.
“Man you really showed him up!” Rainbow Dash said doing a backflip near Cyrus. “First time I’ve seen those type of guards get scared!”
Cyrus decided not to say anything about the everfree forest, hoping not to bring back any bad memories instead he walked into a large room with many ponies.
“Shortest in the front! Tallest in the back!” Some mare yelled out.
“Well, that means us in the furthest back.” Tarkus said as he watched the curtain. His implants allowed him to see perfectly.
“I still can’t believe we’re at some stupid xenos celebration.” Diomedes muttered. “We should just massacre this entire room.”
“If they are as cooperative as last time, then they live.” Tarkus said. “I have no intention of spilling unnecessary blood. First time in 10,000 years has a group of aliens received mankind with open arms.”
“Let’s keep it that way.” Cyrus said. “Angelos has no problem with working with the eldar. I don’t think they will be of any problem either.”
The space marines continued to discuss as the play started. Occasionally breaking conversation to watch what unfolded, sometimes commenting on the events like "Worst tribe of warriors ever" to "Knowledge is power."
“So the horned ones are psykers, the winged ones can fly... (no big surprise there) and the regular ones have a connection to the earth?” Diomedes asked.
“Yes. Think the regular ones to be similar to those trained in the ways of the omnisiah.” Martellus commented.
“Save for about a few dozen differences as it’s the earth they interact with, not any machine spirits.”
“Whatever.”
“Oh look, the purple one is coming over.”
During the play, Twilight had sometimes looked back to see the space marines have a silent conversation with one another. Being the intelligent pony she was, it didn’t take long for her to figure out they had means of communicating with another without anyone actually hearing them. Being in the far back away from any pony, their normal voices which could've easily audible to even the actors were silent. She wondered if it was the play, or whatever reason they were here. Most likely the latter.
“So... how’d you like the play?”
“The pegasus seem all bark and no bite.” Diomedes said. “A true tribe of warriors should take.”
“That’d be true.... if there was anything there was TO take.” Tarkus said.
“I do have respect for Clover.” Martellus said. “Knowledge is power, guard it well.”
“Their leaders are even worse than a certain captain that died a few decades ago.” Cyrus said. “By the throne, even Boreale couldn’t of made things worse.”
“That sounds like another good story! But did you like the play though?”
“It was... adequate. First time I’ve actually seen a play.”
“Never seen any reenactments in my life either until now.”
“Same goes for me.”
“Me too.”
Twilight’s eyes widened a bit.
“Never?”
“Nope. Thankfully we normally don’t have this much time on our hands.” Diomedes said.
“It’s peace that makes us glad for war!” Tarkus agreed. “But... here we are off to look for training grounds for our chapter.”
“So... you want to turn Equestria into a boot camp?” Rainbow Dash asked butting in. “Don’t you have your own planet?”
“It’s not very good for training recruits though.” Martellus said. “That’s when Cyrus suggested here.”
Rainbow Dash was about to ask another question.... when suddenly the wind howled once again, the snow had piled up again the windows obstructing the night.
“According to my calculations, the blizzard will last until dawn.” Martellus said.
“The snow outside is probably waist deep.” Cyrus said. “No wonder the ponies choose not to leave until tomorrow.”
“And it looks like one of them is going to make an announcement. It’s that Princess again.” Tarkus said.
Princess Celestia got the microphone adjusted and proceeded to make her announcement. The blizzard was literally about as tall as a regular pony. Everyone here had to stay until further notice. Luckily, food and drink was not in short supply. The great hall of the castle would provide for all as a feast had been laid out. There was enough food stored to probably last an entire lifetime.
“I think it’s time we ate something other than that tasteless paste they feed us.” Diomedes said. His brothers all nodded in agreement.
“Just don’t expect any meat. Food on this planet comes in the form of vegetables, fruit and baked goods. Unless of course, you plan on eating on the natives.” Tarkus said the last part intending to be a joke. To which Diomedes rolled his eyes.
"I am going to be honest, I am still pretty uncomfortable over doing this." Diomedes said noting all the stares his brothers and him were still getting. "We're in a nest of xenos here!"
"Well, we all know how Gabriel feels when working with the Eldar." Tarkus said. "At least I trust these creatures to be more honest in dealing with us then the Eldar."
"I hope so...." Diomedes said smiling on the inside as he saw all the food piled on several tables. At least no more nutrient paste until otherwise.
“So how long has it been?” Tarkus asked Twilight as she got herself a cup of cider.
“What do you mean? Does your time run differently?”
“In a sense. Time fluctuates every time we close the portal. It’s been 14 years.”
“Only 5 months for us.” Twilight said. “Here try some of us.” She said as she used her magic to give the space marine an entire plate of food. “How much do you need to eat again?”
“Between 16,000 to 32,000 calories everyday.” Tarkus said. “This normally comes in the form of flavorless slime that is almost offensive to the tastebuds. Good thing you have real food here. In a pinch however, my brothers and I may end up resorting to eating rocks” He opened his mouth and slowly had some bread, enjoying the fine taste. As observant as always, he noticed the glaces he received from the ponies, especially those who heard his joke about eating them. It was glad that it was just a joke and nothing to be taken for literal.
“Eating rocks? Spike does that.... sorta. He just eats gems.”
“Cost a lot to feed him?”
“Not at all!” Twilight said. “Gems are rather easy to find if you know how to find them. He eats regular food too!” She watched as Tarkus ate an entire wedge of cheese with one bite and proceeded eat another slice of bread in one bite. She watched her friends as they came over.
“Humans sure eat a lot.” Fluttershy said pointing at Diomedes who was eating a corn.... and the cob.
“Silly Tarkus.... you don’t eat that part!” Pinkie Pie said watching Tarkus eat the apple core as well.
“It’s edible.” He replied. “And tastes better than what I have to put up with. I’ll eat it as long as it fits both of those requirements.” He was greeted by Cyrus who was eating....... eggs?
“High in protein.” Cyrus said. “Some of the cooks gave them to me after I told them our diet needs lots of it.” He handed his brother some of the eggs. “Tastes better when it’s raw though.”
Tarkus nodded and awkwardly, with two fingers began to crack the egg and suck out it’s juices enjoying the salty taste.
“Tastes good.” Tarkus said. “Where’s Martellus?”
“Measuring all the nutritional values of everything here.” Cyrus said rolling his eyes. “He’s probably going to be at it for ages. He wants me to sketch some for him afterwards.... as well as the flora and fauna of everything that lives here.....”
“I have lots of those!” Twilight said. “At my tree library!”
“Well, you can save me lots of trouble if you can get me them.” Cyrus said. “But that’s for another time when this blasted storm stops.”
“HOWS THE FOOD HUMANS?!” Pinkie Pie asked bouncing in their faces. “DID YOU LIKE IT?!”
“I like it.” Tarkus said. “The taste is well.... maybe the best thing I’ve ever had. Reminds me of all the foods on ancient Terra.”
While he and Twilight had a conversation, Diomedes stood by a large window and looked outside. The bitter cold of the winter reminded him of Aurelia. He heard a servant of some fashion came over to offer him food. Deciding to lighten up a bit, he graciously accepted. To be honest, part of him was uncomfortable, another part wanted to start killing while yet another part of him told him to be calm and handle the situation reasonably like how his brothers somehow managed
One thing in the distance caught his eye. At first he thought it was one of the ponies.... but that’s not right? How can they stand out there for so long in the bitter cold? And did it just change into an insect like thing?
Rubbing his eyes, he saw that it was gone. Must of been seeing things. Maybe he should get some sleep as he just realized he had been awake for about five days straight, and that was having impacts on him.
Sleeping in a nest full of xenos. Huh, that’s another first. He wondered how his brothers felt on the subject. Then again, judging from the way they were greeted, they probably wouldn't mind doing it too much. He was comforted by the fact that these ponies, as they called themselves didn't seem to be the type that would try and harm any other living things. Not like it looked like they could even if they tried.

How did this get here?
“Humans, once again in Equestria.” Celestia said to Luna as she watched the four space marines with the ponies. They caught glances every now and then, but that was probably the norm if giant 7 foot tall bipedal red things showed up to a Hearth’s Warming Eve celebration. Generally speaking, fear was given from older ponies while foals watched with them with fascination. Mainly their large bodies and vast appetites.
“What are they even here for?” Luna asked. “Sister, these humans are potentially dangerous!”
“They mean no harm...... for now.” Celestia said. “I’d hate to see what they can do if they were just less than indifferent to see us.”
“How have humans managed to survive being so violent and against harmony?” Luna asked. “If I recall correctly, they have been at a state of war for 10,000 years! That’s just crazy!”
“And here we were, when they first landed. We had thought them hostile, and paid dearly. But in the end, they saved Equestria from destruction.”
Celestia and Luna looked at each other, unsure of what lay ahead.
10,000 years of war is crazy? Diomedes thought. 1,000 years of peace is boring.
“Let’s all remember that it is peace that makes us appreciate war.” Cyrus said. “Better to brave the dangers of reality than live in a ignorant bliss. After all, knowledge is power.”
“Guard it well.” Tarkus said eating an entire caramel apple. “I always wondered how this planet went so long without war. Probably must something to do with those elements of harmony. That was the Emperor’s vision. A vision I fear that will take a long time to be met.”
“Did his vision allow xenos to live?” Diomedes brought up his hand still straying to his weapons.
“Don’t think anyone knows.” Tarkus said. “But frankly, considering the treatment xenos gave mankind for the last 10,000 years. It’s fair to say most are our enemies. Suffer not the alien to live. But here, it’s just...... different.”
“The rules that was made by others should never be worshiped.” Cyrus added on. “Only the Emperor. To be a lapdog of someone else’s authority ends unpleasantly.” The last sentence was said with an undertone specifically directed at Diomedes who in turn looked like he wanted to put out the scout marine’s other eye.
“Fighting amongst themselves now.” Luna said watching as Cyrus and Diomedes almost broke into a fist fight. Both were forced apart by Tarkus and Martellus before anything got heated.
“So if I recall correctly, Cyrus is the red-eyed one. Martellus is..... well... he reminds me of a spider.”
“I doubt that’s part of his body.” Celestia said. “Their technology is beyond anything Equestria is capable of.”
“History of over 40,000 years does probably mean they would be advanced.” Luna said. “But who knew they’d be so violent?!”
“Those they meet are violent.” Celestia said. “Has to be, only the unloved hate. I hope we change that. They will be staying for maybe a year.”
Luna shuddered, wondering how many reports ranging from dead ponies to exploded houses
would they receive this year.
Think we’re violent? Clearly someone doesn’t remember Orks pretty well. Tarkus thought. Humans when compared to the greenskins were about as peaceful as sleeping kittens.... kittens of course, that were ready to scratch your eyes out if you as much as bothered them or got in the way.
“Martellus, what’s the local time?” Cyrus asked watching the snow finally fade.
“12:32 AM.” The Techmarine replied. “Snow has stopped. Do me a favor, ask if there’s anywhere we can get regarding the geography, flora and fauna of this planet. In addition, please provide me with any form of historical texts and texts regarding local civilizations.”
“There is the canterlot archives.” Twilight said walking in on the two. “I suggest you go there.” She pointed the way.
By now, most of the celebration had died down. Most ponies sat back in their chairs, foals were hushed into rooms provided by the princesses. A few older ponies stayed up doing whatever business they had.
Walking through the long corridors of Canterlot Castle, Cyrus and Martellus had taken a look around deciding to have a closer look at the Equestrian architecture. Between the absolutely terribly trained royal guard to the poorly built defensive structures. The two weren’t impressed. Rarity and Twilight however, had different opinions.
“Architecture is impressive. At least if you are the type concerned with aesthetics.” Martellus said. “I have detected at least 17 potential faults in case of a siege.”
“Well, it’s not like brutes come and decide to maraude Equestria.” Rarity said. “I do appreciate the glamor and sophistication of this castle!”
“Royal guard organization is worse than a chaos warband.” Cyrus commented watching the lone guard walk by, illuminating the hallway with his horn. “Patrols should be made in groups. Two is good. Three is ideal.”
“Why would we need so many?” Twilight asked. “Sounds a bit unnecessary.”
“It will be more than just necessary some day.” Cyrus said. “It’ll be the thing that stops an assassination, appropriation, sabotage or repels an invasion. In pairs or trios, guards will be more difficult to pick off and sounding an alert will be easier.”
“Pish, posh. Why would anyone want to attack Canterlot?” Rarity said watching the pieces of art on the walls.
“Many reasons.” Martellus said. “First and foremost is the heavy presence of magical artifacts and knowledge here. Keep them under lock and key. Magic is dangerous, but knowledge is power. Guard them well.”
“We’re here!” Twilight said opening the door revealing an extensive library. “The geography section is over there, there’s a large magic section, but I doubt you’ll need that, there’s a section on animals and plants and everything you’ll need.”
“Why do you want it again?” Rarity asked as the two space marines began to scoop out anything potentially useful.
“Our numbers have gone low.” Cyrus said. “While we won many great battles over the past it costed us heavily. It had been 14 years for us, yet only 5 months for you.”
“Yes many great battles were fought and won.” Martellus said remembering the battles he fought with his brothers. “We now need to rebuild our chapter. Our recruiting worlds are limited to only two now after Typhon’s destruction. We however also needed to make use of new training grounds. Typhon was ideal, Calderis is fine, Meridian isn’t a good idea and Aurelia is tainted. However, your planet with it’s diverse climates, animals and plants holds hope for our chapter.”
“That reminds me, when you first came here, there were seven of you. Now there’s three I know, and that Diomedes guy.” Twilight said remembering the last time the blood ravens were here in Equestria. “Did they die?”
“Only some.” Tarkus said walking in. “Avitus turned to chaos. I had to do what needed to be done. The act still weighs heavily on my soul.” Tarkus paused for a moment and sighed. “Killing a close friend is never easy. Even if he was a heretic.”
“That’s horrible!” Rarity said. “Killing friends... it’s just so.... terrible!”
“Betraying them is worse.” Cyrus said. “Avitus sold us out over the his despair. But that wasn’t the worst of it. Thaddeus and another were sent away to die, by Kyras, our former corrupt chapter master. Emperor save them wherever they were. Thule, earlier had been crippled by tyranids, luckily he lives. Jonah perished while fighting Kyras. And Angelos led the charge against Kyras. He was injured badly, but lived. His body was rebuilt, and he emerged as our new chapter master, more powerful than ever. Let none, find any of us wanting.”
“Yet, pockets of the black legion still escape us.” Tarkus said. “We will hunt down any who remain.”
“Worse yet, I fear Abbadon is readying another black crusade.” Cyrus said. “We need to be at full strength soon.”
“What are they talking about?” Rarity whispered to Twilight who could only shrug to give her an answer.
“We’re talking about our daily lives.” Cyrus said. This made Rarity jump as she did not expect the space marine to be able to hear her.
“I can hear you breathing.” Cyrus said he was about to say something ranging from black crusades to tyranids. Only to be stopped by Martellus who showed him and Tarkus a map.
“So... in the south it is mostly badlands. Many fire-breathing lizards nest here.”
“It’ll take more than dragons for this to be a good place.” Tarkus said. “But I must say, Cyrus, this does look good.”
“And, in the far north, for some reason it snows non-stop.” Martellus pointed at a map. “In the west we have more badlands. And in the east are wastelands.”
“We all have our doubts.” Tarkus said. “But a planet full of pastel colored equines and sunshine seems to probably be a good candidate for training grounds.”
Oh my. Don’t tell me these brutes are going to raise an army here? The thought caused Rarity to clench her teeth wondering how many things are going to explode and how many ponies will have their guts spilled.
“I can train scouts in this place.” Cyrus said. “Locally known as the Everfree forest. Apparently, it is full of many dangerous creatures.”
“Yep, from giant star-furred bears, winged lions with scorpion tails and wooden wolves.” Tarkus joked mirthlessly.
“So.... now that you got planning out of the way....” Twilight said. “I heard you’re staying for one year.....”
“Of course. We must see whether or not if these areas really are suitable for training grounds.” Cyrus said. “Angelos wants zero errors to be made in any planning. A single error could cost the chapter greatly. If it comes to it, we may even as well as walk across the entire planet.”
Cyrus could probably go on, but he had to stop eventually. Eventually came when he found a small lizard walking in and telling the two ponies how late it was. Speaking of which, he hadn’t slept in five days. He too also needed rest. Finding a comfortable area in the library, he laid himself down to rest. He was about to close his eyes until something hit him.
“Where’s Diomedes?!”
The Captain of the Honor guard was found at the highest tower of canterlot castle. He was looking for something. His brothers later found him asking where’s he’s been and bombarding him with endless questions ranging from where he’s been to what is he doing. The reply merely was he was in this tower and had thought he saw something. This was dismissed by Martellus telling him it was a result of hallucinations from not sleeping in days. After a long debate. The captain of the honor guard decided it was time to get some rest. The remainder of the night was spent in the tower.
“They’re up early.” Luna commented as she watched the space marines walking through the hallways. The clock read 6:47 AM.
“They don’t need to sleep as much.” Celestia said. “6 hours for them is considered lazy.”
“Such strict rules.” Luna replied watching the marines hold out their hands in a prayer like manner and begun to utter words.
“Shhhhh.” Celestia hushed. “Their praying. I heard humans can be dangerous if their faith is insulted.”
“So.... if I may continue without being interrupted.” Diomedes said rolling his eyes. “I said that we continue our way. We were here for finding a good place to train recruits, not to spend a night at some festival.”
“Perfect timing too then.” Martellus said. “Outside temperatures measures at only -7 degrees. It is within safe operation.”
“Unfortunately, getting off this mountain can only be done by transportation by train.” Tarkus said. “The other way will take literally days to complete.”
“I’d rather take a train then.” Cyrus said. “We shouldn’t waste any time. It’s good that a few minutes can save us a few days.”
“I am still not......”
“Being with xenos isn’t easy for any of us.” Cyrus said. “But this is truly the first time in 10,000 years when someone besides the treacherous Eldar or the dishonest Tau agreed to work with us. This planet is also ripe for using as training grounds. I think in all honesty, it’s a good thing Angelos kept this a secret.”
Why would they do that? Luna and Celestia thought. They soon got their answer. It disturbed them greatly.
“Because unless you want this place in ashes.” Tarkus said. “I think we better keep it a secret.:”
“Doesn’t seem like there’s a need.” Diomedes said. “After slaying Kyras, we earned many friends in the Inquisition and... everywhere actually.”
“Now what if those “friends” don’t help us? Then this planet, and us too may be subject to destruction. The only thing that’ll save us is our “friends” in the Inquisition.”
What exactly is the inquisition? Celestia thought. Doesn’t sound pleasant. Seems to be like a group that just kills people for..... I don’t even know.
“Humans, always war hungry.” Luna said. “They kill. Why? For the sake of killing. They truly have been tarnished beyond belief.”
“Then we must do what we can to change that.” Celestia said. She wondered how this would be managed considering the way the human civilization sounded. Brutal, prejudiced and quick to anger. In their arguing.... no one seemed to notice a certain few insectoid like creatures carrying a jeweled chest......
Most of Canterlot elite hadn’t really prepared for much. Most hadn’t gone to the play as they had seen it performed elsewhere by a more “professional” group of actors now they were merely detained by having to cope with the winter. Snow had to be cleaned up, maybe stay at home with a warm fire place. But what no pony.... I mean no pony. Could ever prepare for what happened next.
Three changelings were running. Each of them had a sack which contained who knew what. They were running. Running fast. Probably from a mob of the royal guard.
Now imagine the royal guard. Always looking emotionless, this probably frightened many colts and fillies. But what came next, not even the most frightening of the royal guard could even compare too. Four giants in red, came running up the street with strange devices in their hands. No pony was foolish enough to get in their way as anything that got in their path was simply crushed or run over. Behind them, six ponies followed. Then a contingent of the royal guard and the princesses themselves. The odd parade of many diffrent ponies and creatures was watched with bizarre amusement.
Twilight cursed herself for her own negligence. How could she of not noticed?! The three changelings had slipped into Canterlot Castle! And now they had stolen perhaps Equestria’s most valuable possession. The very elements of harmony themselves! A chase occurred and now here they were, in the streets of canterlot pursuing the changelings. She was suprised to see the space marines stop and talk for a few moments before taking diffrent paths.
“Wait?! Aren’t you....”
“We’re catching them the smart way.” Tarkus said cutting her off before giving chase once again.
The three changelings gave each other grins. From the looks of it, the red giants have given up. Now they ran into a wide street with many vendors who looked onwards shocked at the presence of changelings in Canterlot.
Grinning wolfishly to themselves, the changelings didn’t notice Cyrus on a rooftop with a grenade launcher..................
The explosion had rocked the entire street. Everywhere, ponies scattered and ran away from a large smouldering crater. One of the changelings hadn’t been so lucky. Alone and abandoned by it’s brethren, it tried crawling away. Only to be crushed by Cyrus as he jumped down and landed on it. The sound of a half ton giant crushing a changeling, coupled by it’s scream which much like a pony’s, was very jarring to any onlookers.
Cyrus turned to the street the changelings had taken, he considered taking his sniper rifle, but thought again, that his brothers could probably handle it. Continuing chase, he disappeared from sight.
The turn the changelings had made sent them into a narrow street way with very little obstacles. Turning around, they didn’t see any of the space marines.
But maybe..... maybe.... if they were looking STRAIGHT they would of noticed Martellus with a plasma pistol. Firing a shot, he vaporized the closest changeling, the other one, wisely jumped into a window. Right through several apartment complexes and into a random apartment and out the window. Right into a group of schoolfoals.
“Eeek! A changeling!” Some pony screamed. The changeling bared it’s fangs at them prompting them to freeze in fear until they backed into a corner. The moment it lunged at them, it was swooped up by a large..... hand?
The newcomer was even more fearsome. It was big, it was red and it certainly didn’t like changelings. Picking the changeling up, it raised the changeling over it’s head before slamming it down on it’s knee, breaking it’s back.
The first thing the foals felt was probably fear. It’s not everyday a red giant comes and saves you from getting eaten by changelings. Then probably mystery when they saw two more of the red giants and six ponies just like them. They were getting were each rummaging through sacks containing the elements of harmony! And it wasn’t long before Princess Celestia herself came down. The Princess was looking around a bit concerned while conversing with one of the giants.
“What in the name of the throne are these abominations?!” Cyrus asked. The changelings reminded him of a certain group of aliens.
“Changelings! They can turn into any pony! They tried to rule Equestria before so they can feed off it’s love!” A purple unicorn said.
“And what are they doing here?!”
“Probably trying to do some of that conquering stuff.” Rainbow Dash said. “I totally could've taken them on!”
Her ego is probably larger than Diomedes’. Cyrus thought. He was joined by the rest of his brothers. He was surprised to find aside from the elements of harmony, there was a book. The title of the book had been ripped off. But it’s author was what made him turn pale. Lorgar. Did these aliens try and steal that book? If they did, did chaos already make it's taint here?!
“What is this doing in here?! You got some explaining to do.” Diomedes said holding up the book of Lorgar.
“I.. thought we told the librarian to destroy that book.” Celestia said shaking her head. “One of you had warned us it would cause suffering in Equestria.”
“It will!” Diomedes said slamming his hand on a table for effect. This effectively broke the table. “Now then, how did it get here?!”
“I don’t know......” Celestia said. “All I know is that it was supposed to have been destroyed. And where’s the librarian?!”
Second time that Twilight cursed herself for being an idiot that day. The Librarian wasn’t here! But that begged the question. Where was he? Could it be that he fell to chaos as the humans said he had? And would it be necessary to murder him? Murder was a rare occurrence in Equestria. Only happening in the most extreme of circumstances. But nonetheless, the space marines vowed to hunt down the librarian. This would spark yet another debate. What was more important? Finding suitable recruiting grounds or catching a potentially corrupted alien? The humans continued their debate on the trainride to Ponyville and once again once they arrived.

Fail.....baddon
Did chaos also make it’s way here? Tarkus thought for a moment. His question was answered when he remembered the daemon Discord. Chaos has long been here only to be put down by what is called, the elements of harmony. For the time being, questions of there being some kind of chaos cult would be slim, considering the opposition that chaos is met with.
Slim, but not impossible. Tarkus once again thought. In Twilight’s tree library, the space marines were pondering their next move. Investigating the potential presence of chaos or continue with their mission?
Twilight peered into the room. Tarkus was leaning on the table thinking, Cyrus was meditating, Martellus was flipping through the bookshelves and Diomedes was pacing back and forth brooding about things Twilight would rather not think about.
After a few more moments of walking in circles, Diomedes was the first to break the silence.
“Do you think chaos made it’s way here?”
“It’s been here for thousands of years in the form of an abomination known locally as “Discord”. Cyrus said. “The natives however were able to utilize artifacts known as “The elements of harmony” to stop the advance of chaos. An admirable feat considering their nature. Discord’s magic puts even rivals the most lords of change themselves. We are lucky however, that thing is weak and does not have the will to slay it’s opponents. Or we may be dead.”
“Discord would be appalled at killing!” Twilight said. “But when you were, he had to do something, so he unleashed a bunch of... what are they called again?”
“Chaos space marines, the foul traitors who betrayed their brothers and all that they stood for, just for the sake of their own agenda.” Tarkus said. “I am only surprised he sent our brothers home after he was defeated as well as restored those who died......”
“Hey! Maybe he can fix your.....” Spike began.
“Don’t even think about it. Asking help from daemons is probably the most damnable thing in the eyes of the emperor.” Diomedes said. “I’d sooner die a painful death than ask help from any daemons.
“So.... you’re content on doing things the regular way?” Spike asked.
“Better that way, then any damning or dark methods..” Cyrus said. “Now then, Martellus, I recall you wanted me to go have a look in the location known as the everfree forest?”
“Yes. I wish to chart down all the flora and fauna of that forest. It is one of the first places I noted to be of an ideal location.”
“Very well, we’re off.” Cyrus said awkwardly getting out the door with Martellus.
“And there you go!” Fluttershy said as she gave the chickens some corn. “Yum yum yum!”
She continued feeding the rest of her animals. She stopped with Harry the bear and gave him some fish to which he ate heartily. She was going to continue, until a squirrel ran up to her in panic.
“What’s wrong? Shouldn’t you be hibernating?”
The squirrel continued to squeak at the yellow pegasus, who listened to every word it said.
“A monster ate a rabbit? Oh my.....” Fluttershy said.
The squirrel nodded sadly and continued to squeak.
“And it’s coming here?!”
The squirrel nodded and found a tree to hide in from the “monsters”. An odd feeling came over her and instead of hiding or cowering behind her mane, the pegasus wanted to see what these “monsters” were. For some reason, the answer wasn’t surprising.
“And so it seems, not surprisingly, meat is not in the diet of any of the natives.” Martellus said. “Then again, ancient Terran horses did not cannibalize off of other species.”
“That essentially means we have to find out own.” Cyrus replied taking another bite out of the rabbit he caught. The little creature struggled, but to no avail as the space marine ripped it to pieces which he chewed down and devoured.
Fluttershy thought she was going to be sick. The stench of the remains of the rabbit was sickening, and the sight of the mauled rabbit was just as disgusting. However, urged on by her little animals (angel especially), she felt the need to go up and say something. Too bad for her animals, Fluttershy’s courage failed her. However, the two marines stopped by seeing the amount of animals that was on Fluttershy’s property and felt a need to investigate.
“Many animals here.” Martellus said. “However, judging from their muscle mass, brain sizes and other factors, they are almost negligible to be considered as much as threatening. That one though” Martellus pointed at Harry. “Poses a decent threat to an unarmed man. Fairly strong and appears to be capable of tearing flesh with it’s teeth and claws, other than that, no threat compared to what we’ve went through.”
“Are you saying Harry is dangerous?” Fluttershy asked. “Why... he’d never hurt any pony! Or any um.... what are you again?”
“Human.” Cyrus answered. “I don’t think we can impress Angelos too much with small animals. I need bigger and better things.”
“Then let’s continue looking.” Martellus said headed for the forest.
“Are you going into the everfree forest?” Flutttershy asked. “It’s very dangerous in there.”
“Not for us.” Cyrus said unslinging his sniper rifle while Martellus got out his plasma pistol.
“I mean, there’s manticores!”
“Too easy.” Cyrus said checking on his weapons.
“Timberwolves?”
“Pathetic.”
“Dragons?”
“Something I am looking for.” Cyrus said. “I heard you can talk to animals. Perhaps... locate them?”
“Yes........”
“In that case.... come with us.” Cyrus said. She may be of use.
“Okay....” Fluttershy whispered nervously. She followed the marines despite Angel’s protests. She really had a bad feeling about this one.
“Is he eating rocks?” Diomedes asked as Spike went through an entire bowl of gems like they were popcorn.
“Yeah! Us dragons eat jewels!” Spike said. “And are ferocious and fire breathing!”
Tarkus chuckled. “Diomedes, I want to see whose pride is larger. His when he regards his race, or you regarding yourself."
“Shut up Tarkus.” Diomedes shot back. He saw Twilight eating a sandwich with dandelions. She placed some apples in front of them.
“So I took a look at your bodies.” Twilight said. “And listened a bit to Martellus about humans and space marines.... so you have 2 hearts?”
“Yep.”
“3 lungs?”
“Yes.”
“And..... you can spit acid, seem to be biologically immortal, heal yourselves, immune to poison, see further, hear better than the rest of your kind... ah forget it. So in a nutshell.... you’re.....”
“Superhuman as some would say.” Tarkus said. “We’re the Emperor’s finest.”
“Who’s the Emperor?” Spike asked eating another bowl of gems.
“Our undying lord.” Diomedes replied. “He’s the reason humanity is where it is now. If he was to join the fight against chaos in person, chaos would be long dead.”
“What’s your chaos like?” Spike asked. “Twilight tells me it’s nothing like Discord.”
“Indeed. Our chaos is destructive and seeks to bring ruin to everything it touches.” Tarkus answered. “Your chaos seems to be more potent despite not having a tendency to kill people.”
“Discord finds murder to be appalling.” Twilight replied. “If anyone was killed, he uses his magic to restore them to life. He can bend reality!”
“So can the chaos gods.” Diomedes said. “I’ve never seen this Discord.... he sounds like a worthy foe despite the fact he must be weak willed to not be able to kill his enemies.”
“I don’t think Celestia ever intends on bringing him out in the event you may decide to smash his head in.” Twilight said.
“Enemies saving each other’s skins.” Diomedes muttered. “This is probably the weirdest planet I’ve ever set foot on.”
“I know plenty of enemies who became friends.” Twilight said. “I don’t see why you don’t and try and talk it out.”
“With the Eldar and the Tau, minor agreements can be made.” Tarkus said. “But the Eldar are treacherous and dishonest while the Tau only make deals if it benefits them more. Don’t even think about it with Orks, Dark Eldar, Chaos, Necrons and Tyranids.”
“Chaos.... Princess Celestia said it’s everypony’s duty to make sure harmony reigns and not chaos.”
“Great, go help out when Abaddon launches his next black crusade.” Diomedes said.
“Don’t ever mention that name!” Tarkus said. “You want him to come here?!”
“What’s wrong?”
“Never, say that name.” Tarkus said grimly. “Unless you want the despoiler to show up on your doorstep.”
“What’s....”
“So bad about Abaddon?!” Tarkus said remembering that these xenos probably never even seen a chaos lord before aside from the few in Canterlot castle. “Well.. probably the most powerful chaos lord in existence.” Tarkus stopped here and told of all the despoilers dark deeds. Mostly the black crusades and his immense power.
“That’s disappointing.” Cyrus said as he ripped the last Timberwolf in half. “I was hoping that it’d provide me with a larger challenge than that.”
The scout threw the dead corpse into a nearby stream. To his and probably everyone’s surprise. A voice cried out.
“Ouch! Who threw that?”
And right in front him, rose a massive sea... or this case, river serpent, it had a classy stache. Cyrus’ first reaction was to send a bullet into the thing’s head only to be waved down by Fluttershy.
“He’s a nice serpent!”
“Right?”
“Oh, yeah... anyways, what are you?” He asked the two space marines.
“Human.”
“What’s that?”
“Homo sapien sapien, first came into existence roughly 200,000 years ago and....”
“Okay, forget I asked. So how may I help you three?” The serpent asked leaning his arms on the bank.
“You dangerous?” Cyrus asked.
“No. I don’t like fighting. And that thing you’re holding in your arms makes me uncomfortable. Go fight dragons or something. They usually nest on that hill.” The serpent pointed at a hill with a rather large cave.
“Now that’s what I want.” Cyrus said eagerness dripped from his voice as he and Martellus armed themselves, dragging Fluttershy along.
This can’t be good. Fluttershy thought as they entered the cave.
“And then he told me how that this really powerful chaos lord launched 12 black crusades that destroyed.....”
“12.” Rainbow Dash said. “12. He’s attacked them TWELVE times and STILL hasn’t won? Abaddon? More like Failbaddon. He can’t seem to as much as get anything right!”
“But from what I know, he’s perhaps the most powerful being in....... like everything! He’s like, several times more powerful than Princess Celestia!”
“And probably is less cool than all the uncool things in Equestria! I bet I can totally take HIM on.”
“Fly too high and you may clip your wings.” Tarkus said. “Don’t tempt fate unless you want Abaddon on your doorstep. His tactical prowess may not be on par with our general’s but he is no fool.”
“But that doesn’t stop him from being so UNAWESOME.”
Tarkus felt this would be the second headache today. He (futilely) tried to explain the danger and threat Abaddon posed to everyone and everything in the galaxy.
“Well..... that was fun while it lasted.” Cyrus said examining the dead dragon to make sure it was dead. “Well, at least we know these dragons.... are of some challenge.”
“Indeed. Added to database. Will tell Angelos they provide some challenge.”
“Are.... are we done yet?” Fluttershy asked trying not to look at the bashed head of the dragon.
“Nope. That’s not the last of animals I want to take a look at in here.” Martellus said. “Get up, and hurry up. I am hunting giant bears next.”
Fluttershy shuddered. This is not going to end well. Dragons are one thing, but are these humans honestly thinking of hunting bears that are hundreds of times larger than they are?

To Manehattan! Or not........
“That was probably the largest headache I’ve had in a century.” Tarkus said watching an amused Diomedes.
“You said yourself. Naive, and a bit annoying.” The honor guard captain replied. “That was actually pretty funny I’ll say myself.”
“Next time you get to explain things to a cyan horse.” Tarkus groaned as he sipped a light yellow liquid from an awkwardly small cup. “At least this tastes good.”
“Lemonade!” Pinkie said jumping out of nowhere with a hailstorm of confetti. “You should also try some......”
The pink mare stopped for about ten seconds to think of every beverage in existence in Equestria before saying every single one. The only reply she got was having the two space marines looked at each other with odd looks.
“Well....... later....” Tarkus said awkwardly. All of this, really is a new experience. It was often he was sent to go meet with random small pastel colored horses. Some proved reasonable, others friendly, a few stupid and then there was this one. She really just couldn’t sit still.
“Have you ever tried something?” Diomedes asked. “It’s called sitting still.”
“Why would I want to do that? Even my cutie mark tells me to party!”
“You’re just gonna have to get used to Pinkie’s energy.” Twilight said walking by with some tea.
“I all of a sudden have the urge to go kill something.” Diomedes said grabbing his bolter. He really wasn’t too interested in having a pink horse chase him and Tarkus around over the sake of “parties”.
“I’ll come with you.” Tarkus replied. He was getting sick of sitting around with a bunch of pastel colored equines. Time he did what he did best. Unfortunately, now he had to STAND around a bunch of pastel colored equines, as they followed him.
“Where’s Cyrus and Martellus anyways?” Tarkus asked.
“Something about looking around in that forest.” Diomedes said pointing at the Everfree.
“And where’s Fluttershy?” Rainbow Dash asked. “I haven’t seen her all after morning!”
“Is she that yellow pegasus who can talk to animals?”
“Yeah.”
“Probably got dragged with Cyrus to find the best thing to fight.”
“What?!”
“Relax, she’s probably fine.” Tarkus said. “Cyrus and Martellus handle themselves well. Cyrus merely wants to see what are the best places for training new recruits.”
“And this forest, is excellent.” The one-eyed man said emerging from the trees. “For the first time since we came here, it’s offered me sufficient challenge. Dragons. Lot’s of them exist in the forest. So do giant bears the size of titans.”
“I have marked this location for Angelos.” Martellus said to his brothers. “This will be one of the ideal places. Oh... and here’s your friend.” The techmarine then dropped Fluttershy, who looked rather sick.
“Eh, now what in tarnation did ya varmints do to her?”
“Nothing.” Cyrus said.
“Oh.... it was terrible!” Fluttershy said recovering in about ten seconds flat. “They were killing the poor dragons and the timberwolv......”
Really? Poor dragons? Those things would probably go around terrorizing towns and you call them poor? But despite the fact he was annoyed by Fluttershy’s rambling about “poor dragons” and how he “heartlessly” murdered the timber wolves, dragons, manticores or anything that seemed to have been worth his time he didn’t say anything. He was much used to this already and didn’t feel like starting any bickering.
“You know?” Rainbow Dash suddenly said. “He may like killing things. But fighting dragons? That takes guts! And while killing everything you see is wrong at least he’s brave! Like me!”
“I’d rather say YOU are like Cyrus.” Tarkus said. “He’s fought things worse than just dragons.... and frankly, you don’t look like someone built for fighting fire-breathing lizards.”
“Looks aren’t everything!” Rainbow Dash said.
“LOOKS ARE EVERYTHING.” Rarity snapped. “Take a look at them! That shining armor! That dazzling......”
Great. More rambling for the sake of rambling. Tarkus thought. This is probably the largest headache I’ve had in centuries.
“And I just think... he needs a mane.” Rarity finished examining Diomedes who looked like he wanted to stab the white unicorn. But he endured this with stony silence despite his face of disapproval.
“Alright.” Tarkus said. “I suppose this place is marked and good to go. Any other notable places?”
“Well let’s see.... we got the far south where dragons nest.....”
“Ideal.” Cyrus said wiping his brow. “It was a great challenge slaying the creatures.”
“And the far north contains icy blizzards. For some reason unbeknownst to be. There is a strip of land that is not encased in ice.”
“Hmmm..... no native life?”
“None that deserves our attention.” Martellus said. “Signs suggest civilization, but that’s not good enough.”
“Yeah, that’s the crystal empire! The crystal ponies are just recovering.” Some pony said.
“Great. I want dragons and big beasts that can rip a man apart. Not more multicolored equines.” Cyrus said.
“But many strange creatures inhabit there!”
“Fine. Go on Martellus.”
“Hmm....... griffins in the far, far east across some ocean.”
“Unless you feel like swimming. No pony in their right mind will take you there.” Twilight said. “Griffins aren’t the friendliest of all things. They make a habit of being barbarians, fighters and.....”
“Mark that.” Cyrus said. “But really I want a fight. Not a massacre.”
And I thought Rainbow Dash had a ego. Applejack thought as the space marines continued discussing.
“The west is badlands.” Martellus said. “Doesn’t sound interesting.”
“Nope.”
“Hey........ wastelands........” Martellus said. “Those things we caught with the book of Lorgar.... inhabit there.”
“Changelings.” Twilight said. “They feed off of love and strive to conquer Equestria!”
“Sounds like a low quality offshoot of Tyranids.” Cyrus said. “And....”
“On second thought, mark that.” Cyrus said cutting Twilight off again.
“Done. A few other locations remain. One includes a massive desert, also in the south. Inhabited by strange creatures and more equines.”
“Nope.” Cyrus said giving his disapproval. “Alright, so... dragons, griffins, snow or changelings?”
“I am a bit tired of dragons.” Martellus said. “I say Griffins.”
Oh boy, chances are we get dragged along. Rainbow Dash thought.
This ain’t gonna end well. Applejack thought digging at the ground.
“Griffins it is!” Tarkus said. “I hope they are as fierce as they are described to be.”
“There’s a port in manehattan.” Pinkie Pie said. “You should go there!”
And here’s where we get dragged along. Twilight thought.
“Very well then. However.....”
“Okay okay! I’ll come!” Rainbow Dash said. “I know the most about griffins!”
“Sorry sugarcube, but ya go and we all go.”
“I go too.”
“I can’t just let you go all alone out there! I am coming too!”
“I am with you Dashie!”
“It’s settled. We all go!” I hope this ends well. Twilight thought pasting a smile on her face.
The other day, Twilight had received a notice from Princess Celestia. It's subject was the book.Twilight, Prior the humans departing ponyville, 5 months ago, one of them, Jonah Orion had told me to burn this book as well as have the Canterlot librarian executed. Unable to bring myself to do this, I went to see the Librarian and I explained to her what had happened and asked how she got the book. In truth, she had no clue. It merely turned up and she never read it. So not wishing to have to commit any atrocities, I told the librarian to burn the book. I even saw it myself, she threw the book straight into a roaring fire. It didn't burn. It simply didn't burn. Soon... the Librarian told me.... she felt as though she was being watched. Watched with hateful eyes that wished her harm. This taxed on her sanity, until the day came.... right when the humans arrived back in Equestria, did she kill herself. Unable to cope with it any longer. Only the humans can possibly know of this answer. I implore you, hold onto the book. Discover anything you can. For the sake of Equestria. Do it. If this text is half as evil and tainted as Jonah described it, it is best we learn what we can and destroy it as soon as possible.

"Well..... that explains why this book is still in one piece." Diomedes said taking it. "I will be right back."Strange Cyrus thought. But then again, there were many reasons chaos could do or couldn't do anything. He sat down for a moment and began to meditate. This was cut short when spike vomited up yet another scroll.
Sorry I didn't include this in my other letter. Twilight, beware of changelings, we have caught many the other day in a crackdown. Be careful and be safe. They want that book......
"Changelings." Twilight said. "Again......"

Back to Equestria brothers.
It was a normal day for the cutie mark crusaders. The snow had stopped (unfortunately) but this meant that spring would soon be here. Cheerilee like she had every other snow day, been explaining thing about the winter and given them work on it. And so, they listened as Cheerilee began to explain about how that the snow used to be rough but a thousand years ago, a miracle had caused it to now be gentle and calm in comparison. As she was explaining however, Applebloom couldn’t help but notice the human that was approaching the schoolhouse. From the look on his face, he didn’t look too happy.
“Applebloom.”
No answer*
Applebloom!”
Still no answer*
APPLEBLOOM!” Cheerilee said at the top of her lungs. “Will you pay attention? For Celestia’s sake what are you looking at?!”
“It’s that human! He’s coming here.”
Boy, that sparked a riot. Every foal in the room then had the need to go and investigate. The human kept walking towards the schoolhouse. Judging from his appearance, he was the one they called Cyrus.
“Whutz he doing here?”
“I dunno. Maybe he wants to see...”
“Aww cool! A human! Up close!”
“Maybe he should mind his own beeswax!”
“Maybe he has something to say?” Someone suggested.
Cyrus opened the door to the schoolhouse, wondering why aliens with hooves use doorknobs. Not really caring to find an explanation. He simply walked in. Something unclean was amongst children. He needed to purge it.
“Hi Cyrus!” Scootaloo said. “This is Cyrus! He fought a giant....”
“Save it.” Cyrus said harshly. Scootaloo got the message and shut up to the sniggers of Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. For a moment, he stopped and examined every foal carefully, giving them a good long stare. He stopped at Cheerilee and made another glance around.
“Can I help you?”
“Well.... I hope you do find them!” Cheerilee laughed nervously.
Cyrus nodded and turned around to leave.
“What’s he doing?” Scootaloo whispered. “Is something wrong?”
Without warning, Cyrus whirled around and threw his knife. The sharp object buried itself in the head of a certain redheaded filly with purple glasses. The filly stood awkwardly for a moment before falling down, and then fell down. Dead.
Every pony in the room was horrified. This... one eyed creature just heartlessly murdered a young filly! What for?!
Calmly moving for the body. Cyrus picked up his victim. But instead of a the filly he had killed, he instead picked up a black, insectoid looking thing. A changeling. Well, that certainly was a...... TWIST!
“Then where’s Twist?!” Applebloom asked panicking. “Where’s the real twist at least?!”
“My guess? She’s dead.” Cyrus said turning to leave. “I am done here.”
“Wait!” Applebloom shrieked at Cyrus moments before Cyrus exited.
My second headache of the day is here. Cyrus thought as the filly almost jumped on him
“Can you please find Twist?!”
“How am I supposed to do that?”
“Just please.... do what you can.... puh-leeze?”
Cyrus looked down for a moment. The yellow filly’s eyes had grew to the size of dinner plates. A voice urged him to get the hell out of there. But later, when he thought about what he said, he wondered whether or not if he was thinking straight, or got hypnotized by some sorcery out of the small alien’s eyes.
“Fine.....” He breathed. “I’ll do my best.”
“Yes! Thank you mister!”
“Please do.” Cheerilee said concerned. “Something horrible is going on.”
“I’ll do my best.” Cyrus repeated and went on his way.”
“Where’s Cyrus?” Martellus asked as he threw some more dead bodies into a ditch. “I could've sworn he voxed and said he finished purging his area.
“Probably went off to meditate.” Diomedes said smashing a rock with his hands. “Or maybe killing his share wasn’t good enough and decided to hunt them all down.”
“Cyrus, you stubborn fool.” Tarkus muttered.
“Can I ask a question?” Rainbow Dash asked lounging on a cloud that rapidly dropped altitude “What the....?” Martellus said a bit surprised. After a pause he got his act together again and nodded.
“Why is it that you fight over who to kill? Is that like...... fun?”
“Vanquishing my enemy has always been satisfying. However, I will never be able to aspire to any greater honor when the time comes for me to aid my brethren in defeating the vile forces of chaos.” Martellus replied.
“So yes?”
“Depends on who my enemy is.” The techmarine replied. “There is no honor to be had if I am killing guardsmen over the fact we have contradicting objectives but beating back chaos never loses it’s feel. One question I have though is....... are you sitting on that cloud?”
“Yeah!” The cyan pegasus replied. “All pegasi can do this!”
“I figured.” Martellus replied. “I saw it done before but only assumed they were IN the cloud, not ON the cloud. And if I recall correctly, you can also control the weather?”
“Yep! That’s my job here in ponyville!” The pegasus said proudly. “I am also the fastest pony in all of Equestria!”
This one’s ego is larger than Diomedes’. Martellus thought. “Interesting, I will have to take a look at that later. Tarkus, I believe Angelos said he may check on us instead of waiting an entire year. Did he specify a time?”
“He didn’t.” Tarkus said. “We’re essentially on our own for the time being. I can get him here if you want.”
“That’ll be ideal later. Seen Cyrus yet?”
“Nope. Must went off or something.”
“Wonder where’s he is and what’s he doing.” Tarkus muttered as he went back to work.
“You have not seen this filly?” Cyrus asked his face very close to the pony. He held a photograph of Twist in his hand which Applebloom had given him.
“n-n-no.....” The pony replied. “I would tell you if I kn-know.....”
“Very well.” Cyrus said as he got up to investigate the other ponies. Most didn’t have a clue, those that did said they had only seen her some time back. A large problem for him. Always, in the back of his mind did a little voice tell him to stop doing this as it was not his business. But he was hellbent on finding the little brat whether or not it was alive. Taking another stroll around he stopped and started to think. He wondered if could get what he wanted if he tried anything..... questionable.
Cyrus almost slapped himself for as much as going down there. He would not stoop down to the level of his enemies. Finding a rock to sit on, he began to meditate and focus on the objective at hand. No matter how many times in those five minutes alone did Tarkus vox him asking for him to reply.
“Shut up.” Cyrus finally said after a good meditation. “Make yourself useful and try and find if anymore of those things are still running around.”
“Then tell me where the hell you are or at least what you’re doing.” Tarkus angrily shot back.
“I am simply just finding a few missing natives.” Cyrus answered coolly. “I don’t know where I am at or where I am going. But I think I have a clue.” The scout looked and saw some odd goo right at a hole in the ground. Oh no. Enclosed spaces. Just his favorite. Grabbing a shotgun he gingerly jumped down the hole.
“Tell me where the book is... and I let you out.” Chrysalis said her voice silky but deadly. Her victim was a pegasus who was stuck to the wall.
“I dunno! I swear!”
“You were one of the ponies at the area when it happened. Where is it?”
“I have no clue!”
Turning to her other hostages, the changeling queen inspected them, considering which ones most likely knew, and which ones most likely would break first. She set her eyes on a brown stallion.
“Where’s the book?!”
“What book?” Caramel replied having no clue on why he was here or what even Chrysalis wanted.
Doing a facehoof, the changeling queen turned to a guard. He would know. He’s from canterlot.
“Go buck yourself.”
“You dare speak to the queen of the changelings in this manner? Fool! I’ll have you cast in a sea of torment!”
“Scary.” The guard nonchalantly replied. “Go buck yourself.”
The changeling queen lost her temper in that moment, and struck her victim across the face. He didn’t as much as flinch. Only continuing his defiant glare.
“Well then.....” Chrysalis said. “You got guts kid.”
“Thanks, now continue on with my advice and go buck yourself.”
Chrysalis took a deep breath and tried not to let her anger get the better of her. Something her captive wanted. She turned around and cast a fiendish idea.
“So... you won’t tell me?”
“No.” The guard said defiantly. “You don’t scare me.”
“I may not scare you.” Chrysalis said grinning wolfishly. “but maybe....... do I scare... HER?!”
The changeling seized a young filly. One with a red mane and purple glasses. Twist struggled to escape the grip of Chrysalis to no avail.
“You wouldn’t.” The guard said.
“Oh I wouldn’t. But I can’t say the same for my subjects. Now then, they know how to ruin a filly’s day. Tell me.... NOW.”
The guard hesitated for a moment. He saw the look on Twist’s face. Biting his lip he came to his decision.
“I am sorry.” The stallion said shaking his head. “Forgive me.” Then turning back to Chrysalis he spat in her face. “My lips remain sealed.”
“Very well.” The queen sneered. She gave a nod to one of the changelings who began to use magic to torment the filly. Twist could only screech and wail as the lightning bolts of pain rained down upon her.
For what seemed like eternity, Twist was in a state of pain, until she heard the guard speak again.
“Stop! I’ll tell you. It’s not much but if only you stop hurting the poor kid.”
“Very well. Spill your guts before I spill hers.”
“It won’t matter now as you won’t get it anyways. The humans have the book.”
“Doesn’t matter. There’s only four of them. With my endless subjects we can easily overwhelm them, and then Equestria!”
“Four of us is legion, and one of us is plenty.” A voice, even more sinister than Chrysalis had been was heard.
Chrysalis and all her changelings turned to see Cyrus entering the cavern. Kicking aside the body of a changeling he glared at the changeling queen.
“Stop him!” Chrysalis cried out. All her guards rushed forth, yet only half of them reached Cyrus as the rest were shot down by his shotgun. Drawing his knife, he easily overpowered the rest.
Chrysalis was astonished. This one creature had just killed five changelings with a knife, used one hand to wring the neck of another while then strangling yet another. Finally, he was able to break one her subjects’ back over his knee. Perhaps she had underestimated the power of these humans.
“Pathetic.” Aiming his shotgun at Chrysalis, Cyrus moved forward.
“Stand back fool!” Chrysalis screamed as her horn lit up. It sent a magical blast at Cyrus hitting him right in the chest. The space marine didn’t even flinch.
“I am going to enjoy killing you.” Cyrus said moving forward at blinding speeds. He grabbed Chrysalis by the neck and sent the barrel of his shotgun in her mouth.
“Any last words?”
“These aren’t my last fool.”
To the surprise of everyone, the changeling queen merely vanished. Oh well, judging from the incompetence of her warriors, hunting her down and murdering her will be of no hard task.
“Mithter! Your chetht.....”
“It burns, it hurts like hell actually but that’s not important. What’s important is how I am going to get them off.....” Cyrus thought watching with some amusement at the various ponies who were stuck to the wall. “Your name is Twist I presume”
“Yeth!”
“You’re friend Applebloom was worried about you. Thank her, I’d never of came here if it weren’t for her convincing.”
Taking another thought, he decided why the hell not. The oldest methods were sometimes the most effective. With sheer strength, he ripped the ponies right out of the sticky substance. While probably no pony still retained all their fur on their backs, they were glad to be saved even by a red-eyed bipedal thing who looked like he wanted to break more backs. Cyrus promptly led the hostages out.
“Job well done?” Cyrus muttered. “First deathwatch, then helping xenos.”Today, I met with a cheap and less dangerous version of a Tyranid. Cyrus thought. The changelings did remind him of the aliens, though not even approaching the same level of danger, he was still amazed at how this world had something that reminded of one of the most unpleasant memories in his long life.
Back to Equestria brothers.
Finally, something to kill
“My Celestia!” Redheart said out loud as she felt the area around the burn. Even from where her hoof was it was still hot as hell. “Humans must really be made of strong stuff. The average pony would've melted at this!”
“It’s already healed.” Cyrus said watching the nurse inspect him all around for injuries.
“How do you know?” A pompous looking doctor asked. “You may be a soldier, but have you actually treated injuries?”
“Well, been alive for about 600 years, have seen more injuries and deaths than days you’ve lived and been shot and injured multiple times. I can assure you I have already healed in the time it took for me to leave that hole. Like my brothers but unlike you or regular humans. I posses an organ that rapidly heals my injuries. Now then one thing I noticed. You have if I am not mistaken, 1 heart, 2 lungs. 2 livers....”
Redheart listened as Cyrus went down a long list of organs. After he finished with his long list of human and pony organs. The nurse tenderly nodded.
“Same as those of my race then.” Cyrus said. “But one thing I need to tell you I am diffrent like those I fight with. I have 2 hearts, 3 lungs and several other organs that you don’t have. One of them heals me quickly. I had to go through having all those installed into my body of course."
Interesting . Redheart thought. Almost like out of a superhero story.
“Wow.....” The doctor said. “600 years...... 2 hearts, 3 lungs.... I gotta go back to studying.” He quickly left. Cyrus then took the liberty to leave watching the massive mob around him. He had saved them from a fate that only changelings could think about and for that they were grateful.
“Cyrus! I just heard you went into a hole to save some locals.” Tarkus voxed. “And I also heard you got burned. Is this true?”
“Playing the nobleman now?” Tarkus chuckled. “Never thought you had that in you. Deathwatch yesterday, savior of xenos today.”
Cyrus only grunted in reply.
Elsewhere, Martellus had taken another trip to the everfree forest. He made a note to all the flora and fauna he hadn’t had a chance to jot down. However one thing in particular interested him. It was black and white. It looked like one of the natives, but his records suggested otherwise. Slowly, he stalked the odd looking pony through the forest.
After a while the black and white pony stopped. It looked somewhat different from the other members of it’s race.
“Is there some pony there? What does he have to share?”
“You are smarter than you look.” Martellus droned. “My name is Martellus.”
“You have a rather odd feature, are you sure you are a native creature?” Zecora once again rhymed. This Martellus paid attention to, wondering if this was a habit of her’s.
“No. I come from another planet.” Martellus repeated. “My species are referred to as mankind or humans. I myself, along with those who traveled with me are referred to as the adeptus astartes”
“What is your task and what can I do to help,my friend? To have this task of yours put to an end.”
“I am merely looking at all the plant and animal life. It all used to exist back where my kind come from. However, my mission is to find suitable grounds for training recruits.”
“You are training for war? What for?”
“My kind have always been at war. It’s been unavoidable for the past 10,000 years.” Martellus took the moment to think of all the memories and stories he had heard and experienced. “Mostly foreign creatures along with plenty of traitors.”
“I am used to all sorts of creatures too. All kinds in the everfree are new.”
“Question: Why do you rhyme in every sentence?”
“I really don’t know. It’s not something I can control.”
Martellus shook his head and chuckled. Seems she really couldn’t help it after all. The alien prompted to break into conversation with him with her constant rhyming.
“And those things.... they are after the book.” Cyrus said to Tarkus as they stood in Twilight’s library. “Did Diomedes get the job done?”
“No.” Tarkus said flatly. “We tried things from ripping it to burning it. Whatever foul sorcery surrounds this damned text, I care not to know. I am just interested in finding the deepest hole on this planet, and dropping it there.”
“Good idea. Maybe lock it up somewhere. I don’t trust anyone with this thing....” Cyrus replied.
“Sure.”
“Fine by me.”
The space marines held the awkwardly small cups and sipped the brown liquid. It felt refreshing and helped calm their nerves.
“What do we do next?” Tarkus asked.
“Well.... my plan is to go and find this changeling queen.”
“Huh?”
“Oh yeah, right.” Cyrus remembered not explaining to Tarkus what had happened. Taking his time, he explained to Tarkus how he was prompted by some random child to go and save her friend. In doing so, he had rescued quite a few xenos from a demise from Tyranid-like creatures.
“Memories must be lovely.” Tarkus said remembering Cyrus’ story a decade ago.
“What’s a Tyranid? Sounds fascinating!” Twilight said. “Spike! Get a scroll!”
“On it!”
“It’s an alien monster.” Cyrus said. “I mean monster. They are among the most fearsome creatures that ever set foot on the galaxy. They seek nothing more than to devour and reproduce. They strip entire worlds clean of life, leaving only a barren ball of rock.”
“Heh. Changelings feed off of love by turning into some pony you care for. Not life. But do they leave slime or whatever it is behind?”
“Yeah. They mutate anything that is even the tiniest bit organic for it to be later consumed. Wait.... feed off of love.....?”
“Yeah. They do it to gain power and....”
“Just to gain power?”
“Yep.”
“Sounds like a little girl’s idea of Tyranids.” Tarkus said humorously. Cyrus shrugged in agreement.
“But they’re dangerous! They grow stronger from the....”
“Dangerous? Really? If they are “dangerous” then... oh that’s right.” Cyrus remembered the promotion of peace in Equestria. “Frankly, I missed fighting something for a while.”
“You thinking what I think you’re thinking?” Tarkus asked.
“Indeed. We’re going on a crusade. Just the four of us. We afterall, need to find out why these so-called changelings wish to get this damned thing.” Tarkus said holding the book of Lorgar. “Get our brothers here. You know the way to where these things reside?”
“Yes.... but it’s very....”
“Stay by us and I can say.... you PROBABLY won’t die.”
“That’s REALLY comforting.”
“Just you by the way.” Cyrus said. “I’d rather not have beings with more ego than Diomedes or more energy than harlequins.”
Twilight gulped. She really wasn’t in a position to refuse them. Even if she did, she probably would wake up in the night and find herself dragged along.
“I’ll get packing.” Twilight said wondering which was worse. Getting killed by changelings or ponynapped by things who kill on a daily basis.
Little did she know, the cutie mark crusaders had been at the door. They wanted to check out a book, but perhaps an adventure would more..... interesting.

“And I have to go now.” Martellus said. “It was great speaking with you.....”
“Zecora.”
“First time you didn’t rhyme in a sentence.” The techmarine said. This was meant to be a joke, but frankly, it’s rather hard joking when you speak in a monotone and have your face hidden.
“As I said, it’s out of my control. Now I suppose it’s time that you go.”
“Yes. Battle calls and I must answer. I have missed the thrill of combat for some time now.” Martellus replied walking away.
Zecora wondered how humans managed to build the great empire Martellus had described being so war hungry. Then again, maybe being war hungry was HOW they got their empire. Either way, it’s not a pleasant way to be, constantly at war. But from the looks of things, in their grim vision of their future, there would only be war.
“Greetings brothers.” Martellus said as he entered the library. “I see the book of lorgar has escaped it’s destruction still.”
“It won’t for long.” Diomedes said. “But right now, we got better things to do. Fighting.”
I still don’t see why destroying books or killing things is something they like doing. Twilight thought. But as usual, speaking up would probably end with her neck getting broken.
“We’re hunting for changelings. Or those things we caught in that place called canterlot.” Cyrus said. “It seems they enjoy conflict. And apparently feed off of love to get power.”
Twilight could've sworn she heard snickering. But from the looks of the faces of the space marines, they definitely weren’t laughing. Huh, making them smile was a challenge. Even for Pinkie Pie.
“These things are of the most unclean. They feed off of others.” Cyrus replied. “Ring a bell?”
“Tyranids.” Everyone said at the same time.
“Essentially a less harmful version of a Tyranid. Shouldn’t be much of trouble. Hope they at least put up a fight.” Tarkus said. “We depart at 0500. Twilight here has agreed to help us in locating the foul beasts.”
More like I got press ganged . Twilight thought. Oh well, best get some sleep .
“Understood.” Diomedes said. In his mind, he was still wondering why they accept help from horse aliens and why they weren’t killed yet. But orders were orders and he had to follow them. Especially if they were from the chapter master himself. He could've sworn however he heard a little voice whisper the words. “5:00 a clock!”
Back to Equestria brothers.
Much to their annoyance
same. They needed something to fight. Afterall, it was something they were literally made to do.
And remember to take care of the library. Twilight wrote down on the note he was leaving to spike. She was going to be gone for some time. The trek to the wastelands from ponyville would already take the better part of the week. While what the space marines planned to do, Twilight had a feeling could last more. She for one, felt a twinge of fear on what the space marines would do. Could they really potentially wipe off an entire race? This seemed to have been mentioned several times in the past. If they did, however, Twilight wondered if this would bring benefit to Equestria. Changelings had been known to be evil. But.....
Wait why was she thinking about this? That’s just silly! There’s no way that the space marines would destroy an ENTIRE race! No, they were going there to search for answers. And they seemed determined on that. But... just what if....
“Twilight. You ready?” Martellus asked from downstairs. The purple unicorn made her way downstairs and got her saddlebag on.
“Ready.”
And with that, they left. The snow while still being there, wasn’t as deep as it was just days ago thanks to the fact that the pegasi had made it stop snowing. With the sun continuing on shining, the snow little by little had begun to melt, now to Twilight, it hardly passed her hooves. To the marines, it was hardly noticeable. Onward.
“Forest.” Cyrus said as he brushed his way past vegetation. The space marines had gotten into a huddle, some were even looking around in all directions.
“Is something wrong?” Twilight asked watching the four look around almost frantically.
“Forest. Perfect place for an ambush.” Cyrus replied.
“Why does everything that is the slightest bit threatening seem to exist in the south?” Diomedes asked. “I am surprised the fools haven’t killed each other in their fighting.”
“They don’t really fight....” Twilight said. “Dragons are merely territorial, not aggressive. They eat rocks for the most part. And changelings really don’t have much business being around big fire-breathing lizards.”
“They do seem to want to take over this planet.” Tarkus said.
“Well.... yeah....”
“Stop!” Cyrus whispered as he got out his knife. “Somethings there.”
Everyone stopped for a moment getting into a kneeling position to conceal themselves. To Twilight’s surprise, Cyrus had vanished. Rather surprising how a 9 foot giant managed to vanish.
The day remained silent until for a few sounds of wet meat splattering. Cyrus returned shortly after with a dead elk.
“That’s an elk.... it’s a herbivore.” Twilight said.
“Well, Too bad we’re not” Diomedes replied taking a piece. “I am partial to meat.”
To her surprise, the space marines seemed to not mind eating food raw. This would be later explained when Martellus said it doesn’t matter for them. In addition, the average disease would have no effect on them.
Deciding to take the liberty of resting, Twilight took out a scroll and quill.
“What do you call yourselves again?”
“Human?”
“No.... not that.”
“Space marine?” Diomedes suggested.
“It started with an A.”
“Adeptus Astartes?”
“Yes....” Twilight said. “I thought I should get this done.” She continued on writing on the scroll.
“Get what done?” Tarkus asked.
“Well... Princess Celestia told me I had to write a report on anything exotic. Provided it was alive. Nice of you to arrive a few days ago. I had almost no idea on what to do!”
“Is Princess Celestia like.. your teacher?”
“Yeah!” Twilight said. “Alright.... Adeptus Astartes.... average height....”
“3 meters.” Martellus said. “Diet: Anything with even the slightest bit of nutritional value. Natural habitat: Almost anywhere.”
“Alright.” Twilight said making a sketch of Tarkus. “Vertebrate, warm-blooded, bipedal. Has hands.... only has fur on the head....”
“Has 3 lungs, 2 hearts, able to spit acid, sees furthers than the average human, poses in enhanced hearing, resistant to most poisons, immune to most diseases.....” Martellus droned on and on about the amazing physiology of the space marine. “Spends most of it’s time on the battlefield.”
“Princess Celestia will want to see this!” Twilight said with excitement as she made a very detailed report. She made sure to also add “loves to fight. Highly intelligent, some dangerous and unpredictable while others are merely mistrusting. A few prove to be reasonable. Most will however fit in the former two categories.”
Rolling the scroll up, she placed it back into her saddlebag and finished her apple. The space marines had finished ripping the elk to pieces and got back to moving south for the wastelands.
“So... do you think these changelings would be of any challenge?” Martellus asked toying with his weapons.
“No.” Cyrus said. “I killed a dozen in just a blink of an eye. They however could be good for recruits.”
“Another place we could use.” Tarkus said. “I wonder how recruiting goes as of now.”
“To be honest with you.” Diomedes said. “I have a feeling we may not be prepared for what is to come.”
“What makes you say that?” Cyrus asked.
“Well... listen, I have reason to believe the black legion warbands sent to the sub-sector were under Lord Abbadon’s orders. I have a bad feeling he’s readying another one of his black crusades.”
“Then we must get our chapter to full-strength. Fast.” Tarkus said. “This planet shows promise. It could even aid us in our efforts with it’s resources.”
“No matter how rich this planet is, it won’t make a difference if we can’t get out numbers back up to what the need to be.” Cyrus said dryly. “And that’s going to take at least like....”
“I give it 10 years.”
“I give it twenty.”
“Maybe eight.”
“Six if we’re lucky.”
“Ten years?!” Twilight asked. “That’s a long time.”
“Well... to install all the new organs, to actually train them and prepare them mentally..... yeah. That’s going to take a long time.” Diomedes said.
“You know, maybe... there’s a pony in town who can help you with such.” Twilight said thinking of the pony for the job. “His name is Dr. Whooves.”
“Unless he can somehow speed up the process then he won’t be of much help.”
“But he can!” Twilight said. “He owns several machines in his shop. He has time traveled before and seems to have much knowledge on the subject.”
“Intriguing. My idea is to try and open a warp rift that on one side, time passed faster while on the other, time progressed slower.” Martellus said. “Or, anything along those lines really.”
“Then perhaps we have hope yet.” Tarkus said. “It’s good this planet has a wide variety of locations as well as many creatures.”
“I hope myself that these changelings will be of some challenge.” Cyrus said. “I have not had a good fight in days.”
“Allow me to recount that time when you were in the deathwatch and that you lost your...” Diomedes was silenced by Cyrus. That was one wound he didn’t want to have opened again.
“Shhhh!” Cyrus hushed after a pause. “Something is following us!”
“Positions!” Tarkus hissed watching Twilight duck behind him. The space marines stood in formation against the bushes which have begun to rustle.
“Contact approaching. Aim.....”
“Ready....”
Something burst from the bushes. Something orange, yellow and white.
Twilight’s mouth hung open for a sec. What the hell were they doing here?! Did they have any idea what they are doing? What are they doing anyways?! The situation was just.... so messed up! Three fillies, out here. In some random pine forest following a purple unicorn and four large bipedal creatures.
“Girls! What the hell are you doing out here?! Do you have any clue where you are?! Do you even know what you’re doing?!” Twilight asked screaming her head off.
“Yeah!” The three replied at the same time. “We’re going on an adventure with you guys to earn our cutie marks!”
Taking a look around, it was clear the space marines were surprised to. Tarkus had his face buried in his hands, Diomedes looked like he didn’t comprehend the situation, Cyrus was muttering to himself and Martellus was digging at the ground with his feet.
“Go home.” Twilight said again. “You even know where we’re going?!”
“But.... but.... puh-leeze?”
“sweet Celestia” Twilight muttered under her breath.
“Well, if you’re willing to get yourself killed over just to find your “talent”. Be my guest.” Cyrus said rolling his eye.
“Yes! I knew you’d let us!” Scootaloo said happily.
“Ya the best, ya know that!” Applebloom said. “Thanks for saving Twist by the way! Her parents really appreciate it!”
“That’s a first.” Cyrus muttered under his breath.
“So... whatcha doing?”
“Finding answers.” Tarkus said taking out the book of Lorgar.
“Ohhh..... a book! That yours Twilight?”
“No. I was told not to read it. You shouldn’t either.”
“Oh... why?”
“Cause it’s tainted. That’s why.” Cyrus said flatly. “Reading it is on par with cutting your own throat.”
“Oh.... wow....”
“Girls... it’s getting late.” Twilight said. “Get some rest. We’ll have a long walk in the morning.”
The cutie mark crusaders each went to go find a spot and get some rest.
Terra, I wanted a crusade of my own. Not a camping trip. Diomedes thought watching the three equines. He felt a twinge of jealously. About what, he had no clue.

“Do I have my cutie mark now?”
“No.”
“How ‘bout now?”
“No.”
“How ‘bout now?”

“Be silent.” Diomede hissed. Ever since they had walked up the mountain, the three fillies had none stopped talked about their “cutie marks” or whatever they were that they wanted to get.
“Maybe you can get your cutie marks if you annoy Diomedes enough.” Tarkus joked.
“Enough, Tarkus. It’s getting under my skin too.” Cyrus said.
“Just please keep quiet girls.” Twilight said nicely.
“How much longer?” Martellus asked. Twilight was the one with the map. “This mountain makes me uneasy.”
“Why? Aside from them it’s nice and quiet.”
“Too quiet.” Martellus said. “Mountains, the last thing I need is a rockslide or avalanche. They also make ideal ambush points.”
“Robbers don’t typically tend to lurk around here. But we get the peak soon. I’d give it a few minutes. And just wondering, do humans have cutie marks?”
“No. But if you are interested in my special talent, it’s engineering and data. As a few of your friends had described me as a “encyclopedia.” Martellus took a look around at his brothers.
“Cyrus’ would be subtlety and training recruits.”
“So is he like a teacher?” Applebloom asked.
“In a sense.” Martellus said still looking around paranoidly.
“Does he like seeing his students succeed?”
“One of the reasons he’s in command.” Martellus replied.
“With Cyrus at the reigns of the tenth company, the future of the chapter couldn’t possibly get better recruits even if we had Captain Thule in charge.” Tarkus said.
“And with Tarkus at the head of the first, our enemies will know fear.” Cyrus replied.
“Maybe he can teach us!” Sweetie Belle said.
“I can teach you things involving subtly to keeping still.” Cyrus said. “I doubt however without hands you could fire a bolter.”
“Oh... not that kind of teacher.” Sweetie Belle said. “Our teacher, Ms. Cheerilee teaches us... well everything.”
“Little wonder she gets along really well with Twilight.” Scootaloo said. “But can you teach us anything cool! Like I dunno.... fighting dragons?!”
“I would have to learn your race’s combat doctrine if I would to teach you a single thing in combat.” Cyrus said. “Judging from the majority of your race, fighting is not going to be a common talent.”
“No.” Cyrus replied flatly. “I find it difficult to teach anything that’s not human.”
“Why?”
“Because.” Tarkus said. “The only time I’ve seen most aliens learn anything from Cyrus is if they survive an engagement with him. Not many ever do that.”
“And that’s why he was in the deathwatch.” Martellus said. “Cyrus’ skill is matched only by the best the Imperium has to offer.”
“I think his awesomeness is only matched by Rainbow Dash!” Scootaloo said. “I mean he fights dragons, monsters, changelings.... and um...”
“Anything actually.” Twilight said. “I read that even humans don’t get along with each other too well.”
“Don’t remind any of us.” Cyrus said with a frown. “I can think of two times when disaster happened because of that. And it doesn’t involve Chaos.”
“And before you ask him to tell you about it...” Martellus cut in. “Cyrus doesn’t like talking about it. Even now, he still has his resentment of authority.”
“I merely hope I can be better that that certain fool that lead a certain campaign.” Cyrus replied. “But if Tarkus’ analysis is true then our chapter has a future. This planet will make good training grounds.”
“Then remember not to kill ALL the changelings. We may need some for recruits.” Tarkus said with a chuckle.
This was mainly said as a joke. But for some reason, Twilight couldn’t help but feel really uncomfortable at this. 4 people wiping out an entire race?
That’s not truly possible is it? But... then again, a single one of them managed to kill an Ursa minor. On top of that, they treat fighting dragons almost as a game. That’s what scared her. If they took one of the apex predators of Equestria as nothing more than a minor threat, she wondered what they could do if anyone would upset them. She shuddered at what could happen as the Cutie Mark Crusaders continued to bombard the four with questions ranging from what they eat to what they like to do.
“And then.... with the daemon prince stunned and helpless. We sent fire and fury down from the sky. Destroying him.” Diomedes said. “The battle and battles prior were costly. Countless brothers were slain, others fallen to chaos but in the end we had won a great victory. I take it now upon myself to clean the entire sub-sector of any pockets of the dark gods.”
“It had been dark work.” Martellus said. “But our chapter is finally clean of corruption. Though few in number, our hearts are never lacking.”
No kidding. You have two hearts. Twilight thought as she made a fire.
“Gabriel was the first to lead the charge against the daemon prince. While his body had been broken, we were able to repair it.” Martellus continued. “We only lacked a leader.”
“But Gabriel, none found him wanting. Chapter master was fitting. He now commands the entire chapter.” Cyrus said.
“So... he got smashed and lived?!” Scootaloo exclaimed. “Not even Rainbow Dash could do that! Fight a daemon too!”
“Good thing we killed Kyras when we did.” Tarkus said. “Even in that state of not being able to move properly, he maybe could've been a match for Angron.”
“Angron?”
“Daemon prince of Khorne. He is one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy. Kyras not being able to move made him easy fire for our heavy support.” Diomedes said. “I shudder to think what damage could of been done had he lived that day.”
“Billions would've died upon the trillions that Kyras had sent to their deaths. Our chapter would of been dead and a Daemon prince even more powerful than Angron would emerge.” Martellus said thinking for a moment. “He was a skilled conspirator. He sent trillions to their demise without anyone even knowing it.”
“The Tyranid invasion, the black legion invasion, exterminatus, all part of his scheme.” Cyrus said. “But we’re not done yet.”
“No. We have a chapter to rebuild.” Tarkus said.
“I have a question.” Sweetie Belle said.
“What is it?”
“Why are you here? I mean you own so many planets!”
“Good question.” Cyrus said. “We need a place to train new marines for our chapter. The only thing that we need now is to get the chapter in full strength as soon as possible. Twilight says that there’s a way to do that.”
“Yeah!” Twilight jumped up. “I am sure the doctor would be too happy to help you..... but you normally have to do him a favor... think of it as to earning his trust.”
“We could just threaten him.” Tarkus said.
“Clever.” Cyrus said. “But let’s focus on the task at hand. The sun’s setting and I can see the wasteland. Though I am really not in the mood to fight creatures blindly. Now then, even though Diomedes probably can’t comprehend this, we’re going to think this through.”
“Who do you take me for?” The honor guard captain indignantly replied. “So what’s the plan?”
“Whoa hold on a second. I think fast, but not fast.” The scout captain said. “Twilight, give me everything you know on changelings.”
“All I know is that they can use magic and change forms. They also can absorb ponies by placing into cocoons which. This really just get’s their “Love nutrition” out.”
“Please tell that’s not it.”
“It is all I know.” Twilight grinned sheepishly. “They however have a hive in the wastelands. Mostly hollowed out mesas.”
“Sounds good.” Cyrus said. “Tarkus, get the word to Angelos that if he has any scouts. Send them to me. I will train them in the art of war. On this planet. Here and now.”
Twilight didn’t like the sound of that. But nevertheless, she was glad she wasn’t going to be on the receiving end of the space marine weapons.
Imagine the sheer surprise of the changelings. Their home was mostly a secret to outsiders. A few of these “outsiders” however had knowledge of where they resided. But none ever had the courage to invade the home of the changelings. Now imagine their surprise when reports of odd creatures with odd weapons are attacking the outer hive. The very thought of it was..... hilarious actually. Three creatures? This was going to be great.
“Multiple, and by that I mean thousands, of contacts coming in.” Martellus said as he watched Tarkus fire grenades at the holes in the mesa.
“Finally, the peace on this planet would of bored me to tears.” Diomedes said checking his bolter.
“Aye. I wonder if slaying a few thousand changelings will be of any sport.” Tarkus said. “Here they come!”
As the wave of changelings came for them. The space marines quickly got into position on a large mound and began to fire killing several changelings with every bullet.
“Send more guards down to kill those things!” Chrysalis hissed at her soldiers. She was absolutely baffled. It had been only about fifteen minutes since the humans had attacked her kingdom and now there was a mountain of bodies outside. When Cyrus had told her earlier he was going to enjoy killing her,she originally had the feeling he was bluffing. But judging from the fact a handful of humans had already massacred several hundred of her subjects, that bluff was becoming a reality.
Without warning a loud explosion rocked the entire mesa. That particular human was here. This was further emphasized by the dead corpse thrown into the room and the fast massacre of any guards in the chamber. As soon as this was finished, the entrances all collapsed before even giving Chrysalis time to react.
“Now then.” Cyrus said polishing off his knife. “You can answer my question, and I might decide to let you live. Or you can remain silent, as I have another way of finding what I need to know.”
Chrysalis saw no way out. Her only hope was hoping to stall Cyrus by answering his questions so her changelings could arrive to help. She decided to cooperate for the time being.
“Fine. Speak.” She spat out the words making sure to keep a fair distance between her and the space marine.
“Good, what do you wish to do with this?” Cyrus asked taking the book of Lorgar out.
“Power......” Chrysalis said. “Power beyond anyone’s dreams, that fool Celestia’s and all her idiots!”
“Do you know what happens when you get this power? Death, if you’re lucky.”
“Fool!”
“Do not tempt my wrath.” Cyrus hissed. “Now then, what makes you so sure to escape chaos?”
“Chaos simply can’t touch us. That’s it.”
“What?!”
“You are more stupid than I thought!” Chrysalis hissed. “Let me explain. Our world has certain properties, the ponies themselves....... well..... are guarded from chaos. Chaos as you know, could have easily come to our world and corrupted everyone or everything. But they didn’t.”
“Why?” Chrysalis continued. “It’s simple really, the ponies... they not only appear as a “blank” as you would call it but also emit a special form of magic. This magic weakens the grip of chaos, the longer chaos remains exposed to us, the weaker it gets until it disappears, any attempts of chaos trying to corrupt anyone will result in it weakening until it disappears. Only one exception remains in the form of Discord. Only his influence is untouched by the magic of harmony.”
Sounds useful. I wonder if we can use that later. Cyrus thought..... while in his thought however he didn’t notice the lone changeling. Moving quickly, it snatched the book out of his hand and handed it over to it’s mistress.
“Fool! Now I can wield unspeakable power!”
“Really now?” Cyrus asked. “Open it.” His lips stretched into a grin as he saw the look on Chrysalis’ face. The book he made was simply a dud. All he did was have Twilight copy the cover and back. That’s it.
“I’ll be on my way now.” Cyrus said. “If you excuse me, I will be busy murdering your subjects.”
“You won’t get away from this!” Chrysalis screamed in rage.
“But I already have.” A puff of smoke, and Cyrus had disappeared. Glaring at her guard she was about to say something when the guard spoke up.
“Twilight.... book.”

Something that's not happened in a few thousand years
“Find Twilight. Get as many spare guards as you can. Hurry. Take the book!” Chrysalis barked as she saw the few dozen or so changelings get a move on. Taking a look outside. There was the humans, three of them standing on a mountain of dead bodies. The “fight” had been very one-sided with most of the changelings never even reaching the space marines. Now they had discarded their empty weapons and pulled out their melee weapons.
“1782....1783......1784....” Diomedes said as he sliced another changeling to bloody ribbons. “How’s everyone else holding up?”
“Great.” Tarkus said. “I lost count ages ago.”
“Hardly a scratch.” Martellus replied. Aside from scorched armor, the changelings could do little damage to the space marines. Their magic blasts did little to even as much as slow the marines as they continued to massacre the masses that poured forth.
“How much you think are there?”
“I think at least like in the ten thousands.” Martellus thought thinking while melting another changeling. “We must of killed thousands already and yet they still keep coming strong.”
“Wonder if Cyrus’ is done yet.” Tarkus asked aloud. “Think he’s done?”
“Said he’ll vox us when he is.”
“Alright. Wonder where those ponies went.”
“Probably still watching as we thin out this horde.”
Twilight was amazed. She couldn’t believe how many corpses were there in that giant ocean of dead bodies. Thousands at least. She wondered what would happen if maybe.... the space marines decide to have a change of heart. They don’t seem to mean Equestria any harm for the time being, but from the nature of most humans, she wondered if that might change any time soon.
No... no.. it’ll all be alright! They were friends! Friends didn’t turn on each other just for the sake of some bloodthirsty urge. Would they....? What would they gain if they killed all those of Equestria? Surely nothing from their technology and advancements? While in thought.... she didn’t notice that the three fillies were running to her panicking, trying to tell her something.
“Twilight! Twilight!”
“Twilight!”
“Twilight!”
She snapped out of thought just for a moment to see it. A giant mob of changelings chasing after the three fillies. She looked up and turned to find an escape route. Only to discover the terrible truth. They were surrounded with no way out. She wondered if she could maybe use her magic and fight her way out.
Applebloom began to tug on her hoof. This sent realization crashing down upon her. While she maybe could fight her way out, she doubted that she could guarantee the three fillies’ survival if she tried something like that. She frantically looked around to find an exit or any opening she could potentially use.
There were known. The changelings all gave nasty looking grins which concerned the fillies, sending them hiding behind Twilight, who saw her life flash before her eyes. This was it, but she wasn’t going down without a fight. Firing her horn beam at several changelings she made sure that the fillies would be safe for as long as possible.
From behind, something knocked her to the ground. Another changeling, it’s eyes wide in glee and it’s lips curled in an evil smile. It’s horn glimmered green.
Twilight closed her eyes hoping the fillies could make it. She then felt something splattering her. It was blood, but not her’s.
Opening her eyes, she saw it. It was human alright. Big... red but this one was masked. That was what made it so particularly fearsome. It stared at her through emotionless eyepieces.
“Than......than...thanks...” Twilight mumbled. To her surprise and horror, she was picked up rather roughly by the throat with a knife pointed between her eyes.
“Wha... wha.... what are you doing?!” She asked panicking.
“Purifying this galaxy.” The marine said raising his knife.
“Put her down.” A familiar voice boomed.
“My lord! I found a xeno and.....”
“Put her down I said brother.” Gabriel repeated.
“Gabriel?” Twilight almost asked as she saw the state of the space marine chapter master. Half his face was missing, covered with some strange material that was alien to her.
“Yes.. that’s my name alright.” Angelos replied holding godsplitter. “Twilight I presume?”
“Yeah.... and nice greeting I got...”
“I understand. Consider yourself an exception.” Angelos said. “Same goes for any member of your race.”
“Ummm.... what?”
“I’ll explain later.” The chapter master said. “Cyrus?”
“Here my lord.” The one eyed marine said. “I see you came to see how we were doing.”
“No. I only came here to see whether or not you’re idea was good. You have my approval. I have brought about two dozen scouts. More will be coming.”
“Excellent! Angelos I have more good news I can bring you regarding this planet.”
“What is it?”
“Provided we may find enough able-bodied candidates, we can potentially train a large amount of recruits in a very short time. These ponies once again found an answer for us. In addition, I have a new discovery that can forever change the galaxy.”
“What is it?”
“Well.... these ponies... their bodies emit some aura... it repels and weakens chaos.”
Angelos looked at the scout with a quizzical look partly of doubt while partly of hope and excitement.
“We’ll test that later. So what are you going to do about all these.....”
“Changelings.” Twilight told him.
“Simple. This.” Cyrus said pulling out a trigger. “I took the liberty of leaving several explosives in their hive.”
“What? You plan on....”
“Wiping out their entire race? Yes, that is my intent.” Cyrus said detonating the trigger. The entire mesa went up in a bright orange fireball that devoured the entire landform. He gave a small nod of satisfaction.
“Wow! That’s really big!” Scootaloo said watching the entire landform go up in ash.
“Indeed. Next time check to see if we’re OUTSIDE the radius.” Diomedes mumbled.
“I did.” Cyrus said dryly. “If I hadn’t. We wouldn’t be talking right now. Quit complaining. The recruits are here. I have more scouts to train.” Cyrus was about to get into another thought... when a familiar figure showed her face.
“You! You killed them! All of them!” Chrysalis shrieked in rage. “One day we'll meet again murderer!”
“Hypocrisy at it’s finest.” Cyrus replied taking aim with his sniper rifle. Clipping off the nearest changeling’s wings for effect he then turned back to the changeling queen. “Think to harm me? Crawl into whatever hole you find. Lest you make me go back on my word.”
“Our paths will cross again.” The changeling queen said. “And it’ll be different.”
“Aye, one less foul creature on this planet.” Cyrus replied. He watched Chrysalis turn to leave for a second before picking up his sniper rifle. “Think I can hit her from here?”
“Not needed. We can use more of those changelings later.” Martellus said. “I think it’s time we returned to ponyville.”
“And of course to test what you have told me. This will have to be done later.” Angelos brought up. “I have a feeling I need to inform Adrastia about this.”
“Why’s that?”
“So we don’t get accused of heresy... again. Cyrus, you’re the reason this entire race will remain alive. If what you tell me is true, then we have just discovered a new way to combat chaos, but I have a few suspicions. Maybe this planet’s rulers can provide with an answer.” Turning to Twilight, he spoke in a voice that made Twilight know if she hadn’t already gotten the message that he wasn’t going to take no for an answer. “Take me to your leaders.”
“Even more humans?!” Luna almost jumped up as the guard gave them his message.
“More opportunities I suppose.” Celestia replied. “I heard one of them is a leader like figure.”
“And the same one who managed to smash an Ursa’s head in just by himself! These humans are dangerous! They are a threat to all of Equestria!”
“I have my doubts too. But perhaps if we play our cards right, we can sow the seeds of friendship with them here and now. Luna this is an opportunity that cannot be missed. Equestria, this entire planet has never had outsiders come here before.”
“And now I fear they may be coming in large numbers.” Luna said pointing outside at a Thunderhawk.
“So many aliens!” Sweetie Belle said. “You think they want to be our friends?”
“Yeah! Mr. Cyrus is so cool! He turned a mountain upside down!” Scootaloo said apparently unaware of the thousands of changelings that resided there.
“Ah dunno.” Applebloom said. “They seem pretty scary to me.”
“I think that’s the point.” Twilight said. “I asked them why they wore such bright colors. And you know what they answered?”
“Why?”
“It’s to frighten their enemies. Though some of them prefer using stealth instead of fear. Huh, probably not too hard to frighten their enemies.” Twilight took a look at the nearest space marine. His helmet showed no emotion. He just walked onwards.
“I can’t believe this!” Diomedes voxed. “I thought the plan was to have them killed when they outlived their usefulness! Not for Emperor’s sake go waltzing up and make bloody friends with the aliens!”
“They probably won’t ever outlive their usefulness. Weather control, “magic” and even repelling the ruinous powers just by being alive. This is one alien I won’t mind seeing aside from Harlequins in case I am fighting chaos.” Martellus took a look around at the four ponies. The older one clearly was nervous and probably had an idea of what their conversation was about.
“What do you think?” Martellus asked.
“Friendship with aliens. This hasn’t happened in a long time.” Tarkus said. “I understand something temporary, but.... will this honestly be a long term relationship? Every time we’ve made an alliance, it fell apart in a matter of days. We are expected to uphold one for years? I really have my doubts on this.”
“Agreed.” Cyrus said. “But we must utilize everything we can against chaos. Whether it’s convincing a band of pirate orks, making arrangements with the eldar and now, it seems making friends with a bunch of horse aliens. I don’t like this as much as any of you, but if it’s worth the trouble, then so be it.”

Angelos listened intently as his captains argued back and forth. While that, he allowed himself a whiff of the air. Clean, unpolluted. A place relatively untouched by the ruinous powers. It truly was paradise here. Chaos... unable to thrive... Wait a minute. That’s when he remembered what his question was and he knew he had to have it answered.
“I apologize for tardiness, Gabriel.” A newcomer said stepping out of the blue. He was dressed oddly, with a metal hood around his head and held a staff. He was addressed as a librarian by others. “I was held back by some unexpected...... what the?”
“Good to see you again Solomon.” Angelos said greeting the chief librarian. “I suppose I can introduce to you to the local populace. And before you say anything, you’re going to tell me these two are psykers.” Angelos pointed at Sweetie Belle and Twilight.
“What’s a psyker?” Sweetie Belle asked Twilight.
“Hush, not now.” Twilight whispered.
“You know too well.” The librarian said. “Next move?”
“Speak with the planet’s rulers.” Angelos said. “Cyrus can brief you why.”
“Go and do what you must.” The chapter master nodded. “I will now go and meet with whomever is in charge here. Speaking of which......”
“I am here Angelos.” A female voice said from the trees. Twilight saw another human step from the foilage. Unlike the other ones here, she was signifigantly shorter and had a higher pitched voice. Though when a pony was compared with her, they still sounded like they were singing in comparrision to the gruff voices of humanity.
“Now about what you said.” Adrastia began. “Fascinating.”
“That’s all you have to say?” Angelos grinned. “I expected you to come and demand an explaniation.”
“That’s what those fools that I work with would do. Not from me. I merely see the vast potential that can be done in all of this.”
“Excellent, it is good to see we are on the same page.”
“Aye, but there are those that are not.” The Inquisitor stepped closer to the chapter master. “There are some who even after you many great deeds, continue to whisper of hersey in your chapter. Beware. You have made many friends Gabriel, but also many enemies. Watch your back.”
“Something I learned to do after with Isador.” Angelos said shaking his head. “I assume I have your approval and support?”
“Indeed you do.” The inquisitor turned around and looked at Twilight. “Can you talk?”
“I can!” The lavender unicorn replied. “Eh.... what are you exactly?”
“That is none of your concern for the time being.” Adrastia replied curtly. “Angelos, I will depart now. Expect some more of our kind to arrive for whatever reasons. How you wish to deal with this, that’s your decision.”
“And so it will be.” Angelos replied as he got back on his path with his entourage following him.
“I could've sworn there wasn’t snow back there just a few miles ago.” Solomon said looking at the ground. “Interesting.”
“The natives can control the weather.” Martellus replied. “Something that can be put to use if we find out how. In addition, their “psykers” are completely safe from the warp. Their souls seem to repel chaos. In fact, I wonder if their presence may even affect it......”
“That will be a test for another time.” Cyrus said. “I would however like to see how far this works.”
“In addition, this planet hasn’t seen major conflict in at least a thousand years.” Tarkus said.
“That’s certainly not something I’d expect.” Solomon commented looking around. “And I suppose that’s where civilization is?” He pointed at Ponyville which he could now see.
“Yeah! So what are you going to do here?! Are you going to live here?” Scootaloo asked. “Cause that would be SO COOL!”
“No.” Angelos said flatly. “We’ll come and go. Most likely.”
“By the way, I would like to see.... this Dr. Whooves now.” Martellus said.
“Ah, take ya to him.” Applebloom said.
“I am going too.” Cyrus went after them as they left.
“Now it’s come to my attention also the rulers of this planet can move the very sun and moon?” Solomon asked.
“Princess Celestia raises the sun, and Princess Luna raises the moon.” Twilight said. “They’re each over a thousand years old.”
“Raise the sun?” Solomon echoed. “Are they’re both..... sane?”
“Of course!” Twilight replied. “Rather odd question.”
The librarian said nothing afterwards, only just thinking to himself. The group continued on their way to Canterlot.
Celestia took a deep breath. Sure enough, this would be the second time she dealt with humans. Brutal, murderous, unreasonable were merely a few words to describe them. She had also heard of their deeds down at the wastelands. Thousands of changelings were slain in mere hours. She wondered what would happen if her subjects ended up on the receiving ends of the weapons the humans carried around with them. Stopping for a moment, she got Luna. At least the humans for now were somewhat reasonable. Asking for rather negotiations in place of simply blasting everything. The door flung open.
“Stop. Put your weapons down an...”
“Be silent whelp.” Diomedes said in his usual voice. “Wherever a space marine goes, his weapons go with him.”
The guard pony decided to quiet and not tempt the wrath of the 9 foot tall giant. Angelos looked around admiring the room. It was majestic and held grace, like a planetary governor’s stateroom. In the room was a large table where two taller specimens of the race stood as well as several other natives most likely from the upper class judging the way they were dressed. Most of them remained silent, but a few, mainly the ones with motor mouths, felt the need to gossip and whisper.
“I bid you welcome to Equestria.” Celestia began doing her best to appear confident and more importantly, friendly. “If you are kind hearted, I am sure you will make many friends here. It is truly an honor to meet a race that hails from the stars themselves.”
“The honor is ours. Celestia of Equestria.” Solomon said. He watched the tall alicorn nod her head.
“What brings you to our home?” Celestia asked.
“Simply your planet for the time being.” Angelos replied. “I expect no trouble?”
“Seems I am in no position to refuse you.” Celestia replied. “My only request is that you do not harm my any of my subjects.”
“I can assure you, they won’t be harmed in any method. Though I may ask for volunteers.” Angelos said. “I suppose that’s all to say. Save for one thing. It occurred to me those of your race repel chaos. Is this true?”
“Thou.. I mean, you are correct.” Luna said. “We stand against chaos at all times. We are after all beings of order and harmony.”
“Mind explaining that thing you call Discord?”
“He was merely a spirit of disharmony. Now he is reformed.” Luna said. “He no longer uses his magic for evil.”
“Was he slain?”
“No.”
“Banished back to the warp?”
“No.”
“Turned to stone?”
“No.”
Before anyone could say anything. Discord strolled in.... out of a hole in the wall.
“Why hello humans!” Discord said gleefully. “Has anyone told you how grim you guys are? Seriously, try smiling for a change! Always angry, always wanting to kill something. Yikes.”
“You are an embodiment of chaos, monster.” Solomon said gripping his staff. “There can be no peace, no joy while things like you still draw breath.”
“Apparently being reformed means nothing to these guys.” The draconequus said. “You guys need to cheer up.”
“I AM GOING TO KILL HIM.” Diomedes roared looking like he was about to have a seizure. “I AM GOING TO BEAT HIM TO DEATH WITH HIS OWN ARMS.”
“Such brutality!” One of the ponies in the room commented.
“You should see the look on your face!” Discord said laughing. “Priceless!”
That did it. Diomedes launched himself at Discord who managed to slip and evade the hulking space marine while taunting him childishly.
After a while of being chased in circles, Discord positioned himself at the nearest window and dived out. Much to everypony’s surprise, Diomedes did too.
“Is he going to be okay?!” Some pony asked.
“He’ll be fine.” Solomon said. “He could probably do that from orbit and live. I was going to ask about chaos.... but I think I’ll be more worried about Discord if he’s truly “reformed.” He spat the word reformed out with contempt. He decided to move on to a different subject, trying to ignore to the best of his ability the sounds of Diomedes’ angry warcries and Discord’s laughing.

Angels of weeping
grunted in agreement. He was fiddling with some clocks.
“I presume you are Dr. Whooves?” Martellus asked standing at the counter.
“Indeed I am good chap.” The doctor replied. “If I may, what manner of creature are you?”
“I am a human. As is my friend here.” Martellus said pointing at Cyrus who nodded but said nothing.
“Well... pleasure to meet you.... Mr...”
“Martellus.” The techmarine droned.
“Are you like..... a machine? Robot?” The stallion asked.
“Partially. Same goes for Cyrus. We make use of cybernetics and enhancements where we come from.”
“So you are an advanced race I presume?”
“Indeed we are.” The techmarine replied. “Now then, If I am not mistaken, we were told you have a device that can manipulate time?
“I have a lot of those.” The Doctor replied. “What are you interested in?”
“Well... if I have my information correct, then you posses a device that allows time to move faster?”
“Something similar.” The stallion said. “You want to go back in time?”
“No. Stay in the present.” Martellus said.
“Well, mind telling me what you want to do? For all I know you could use my machines to go and I dunno, wipe out an entire race.”
“They kinda already did that, Doctor.” Twilight said. “They destroyed the good majority of the entire changeling race in mere hours.”
“Wow..... a race of mighty warriors I see. So... you going back in time to fight some undefeated foe?”
“No. We are training initiates.” Cyrus said finally choosing to speak up. “The process is slow, taking years. I am trying to find a way so that it will only take days or maybe a comparatively short time.”
“I got something like that.” The Doctor replied. “But....”
“You’re going to ask for something in return.” Martellus said. “What will it be?”
“Well...... perhaps maybe.... something from your planet or planets?”
“That’s it?” Cyrus asked.
“Oh no my good sir.” The brown stallion chucked. “Not just any old trinket. How about that thing you carry?”
“My sniper rifle? You might as well as take my good eye.” Cyrus said. “This thing is the reason I am still alive.”
“Eh... okay. How about.......” The Doctor sat down and began to think for a moment. “Maybe a detailed copy of every single race in the galaxy you’ve made contact with? Yourselves included in that copy of course. My requirements is that they must have a basic description, of their behavior patterns, diet, habitats etc.”
“Fair enough.” Cyrus said. “Go vox Angelos.”
“Will do.”
“Oh by the way, please make sure to update it regularly. I am interested in what creatures inhabit this galaxy. But before that, one more thing.”
“I see you fiend! You cannot escape me!” Diomedes once again gave a roar as he rushed Discord through the streets of Canterlot swinging his chainsword and taking potshots with his bolter. The draconequus evaded him easily using his magic to dodge everything that the space marine threw at him.
It had been quite the sight. First Discord jumped out of a window from the tallest building in Canterlot, then seeing a red alien jump out after him. Judging from the things it held in it’s hands, it could be safe to assume it wished to bring harm to the newly reformed spirit of chaos. While most of course were no friends of Discord, they found it equally appalling that something out there wished to murder another living creature. The residents of Canterlot watched in amazement as Discord turned the ground to ice and he skated across while a big alien pursuited him with a massive roaring blade screaming insults and threats. Discord surprisingly wasn’t bothered by this in a bit as he made his way through a large streetway where vendors were selling their things followed by the hulking frame of Captain Diomedes who made little effort to get out of the way of civilians or buildings. Yes, buildings. Holes were literally made into walls as Diomedes made a frenzied dash to catch up with Discord.
Turning around, Discord saw his hunter run at his mindlessly, perhaps it was time to make a little sport off of this. Looking down, he saw a lake. He stood right at the edge, hoping Diomedes would take the bait.
And of course, blinded by rage, Diomedes continued to rush the draconequus, only at the final moments of his frenzied charge did he realize his mistake. Discord snapped his fingers, and the walls that already made very meager walls simply disappeared, with Diomedes falling off over the edge and straight for the lake, making an enormous splash when he hit the water.
Chuckling to himself, Discord left and went to go continue with his own business.
“Friendly xenos. This is a new one.” Solomon said as he and Angelos walked through the halls of Canterlot castle. “You sure this is going to last? Judging from your experiences, alliances with the Eldar last for mere hours before everyone resumes fighting again.”
“Their problem is their own dishonesty and refusal to aid anyone. We show any acts of kindness to them, they take advantage of it. When neither side yearns truly to help the other, that’s when this “alliance” falls apart. To have the Eldar as your allies will only last for as long as you have a common foe. But with these.... ponies, I wonder if it’s different. It would indeed be a rarity, but are they truly willing to help us? Or are they pursuing their own agenda?”
“No matter how benign their intentions can be, we will make many enemies in doing this.” Solomon said looking out the window.
“One thing I don’t know is, what do they get out of this? We get their planet, their resources, their secrets and perhaps later, even them. What are they getting out this? They know we won’t share technology with them.”
“Do you know why people want a space marine monastery on their planets?” Angelos stopped walking to ask this question.
“So they may be graced by the Emperor’s angels of death?”
“No. Protection. A fortress monastery wards off all but the boldest or most foolish of foes. We had told them about things like chaos. Chaos will find this planet. This paradise will not last. I have seen planets like this be consumed by the ruinous powers. Their ruler is no fool. As powerful as a psyker as she may be, what can she do when a chaos warband land on this planet? The devastation it’ll cause even with the presence of a mighty psyker at their side will probably be of too much for them to handle. They are a race of peace after all.”
“So what they get is us as meatshields?”
“That’s putting it too harshly. We are rebuilding our chapter on this planet after all.”
“Well, I learned to trust you, Gabriel. No matter how crazy this sounds, I am with you.”
“And of course, that’s why you’re my chief librarian.”
“You know I never deserved that title. It belonged to Orion. The only reason I am where I am is because I happened to be a close friend of his.”
“Don’t think that you chiseled him out of his place, Jonah was one of the best. But I am sure if he were to choose, he’d choose you as his successor. I do too.”
As Solomon stood pondering, as Diomedes tried to make his way out of the lake and as Martellus continued to study Equestria, Cyrus was out in the everfree forest. The last part of their bargain would be for his scouts and him to bring the doctor two statues. But not just any statue. Human-like statues that were apparently dangerous.
“We’re doing a favor for a frakking xenos!” One of the scouts grumbled. “This is stupid! And it’s heretical! How do we know the inquisition won’t have our heads for this?!”
“If you don’t shut up, I’ll have your head.” Cyrus voxed back. “He wants us to find and bring him back some creatures of his. Just remember. Once you make visual contact, retain visual contact. If you can, get them to look at one another. These creatures look like humans. They are apparently made of stone.”
“Like that one?” One of scouts asked pointing at a statue. It’s hands were held over it’s face as if it was in grief.
“Holy Terra.......”

“Good afternoon Zecora.” Fluttershy said as she passed through the Everfree forest.
“Good morning to you too. Now, what is that you wish to do?” The zebra asked.
“Well, I was looking for some herbs you know. But glad that you’re here. I am really opting to look for anything with any medical value.”
“Well, then come and follow me. For I know just some plants and a particular tree.”
“Alright. Let’s go. I better restock soon.”
The pegasus and the zebra trotted through the Everfree forest, picking out plants that could be used. Towards the end of the way, the two stopped at the tree.
“Do you see this tree? In the back is what holds the key.”
“So... they bark is what I need?”
“It is what you need. But take the fruit, for it provides adequate feed.”
Fluttershy had the fruit. They were like berries... but sweeter and juicier. The two sat down and enjoyed the fruit. Enjoying the view at the stream, she took a look around.
Zecora watched the yellow pegasus gave a small gasp. Taking a look herself. She saw it.
There in the middle of the stream. Laid the still form of Captain Diomedes.
“Oh my gosh! Is he alright?!” Fluttershy asked. “Zecora! He might be hurt! We need to help him!”
The zebra said nothing. Only nodded in agreement.
“To my hut I go. But beware, he may take you for a foe.”
Fluttershy nodded. Moving quickly she quickly got her animal friends as they all made an effort to move a half ton giant.
When Diomedes slowly regained his vision. He found himself looking up at a wooden ceiling. Around him, he heard the melodic voices of the natives as they were conversing. When he had fully regained consciousness he was able to get himself in a sitting position and have a look around. He saw two xenos. One he knew which he could identify as “Fluttershy” and another stripped one of which he could not identify. Something in him wanted... to go and break their necks... to watch their blood flow on the ground and simply just storm out. But perhaps, against his better judgement, he decided to do nothing for the time being.
“Are you hurt?” Fluttershy asked gingerly taking a look at the space marine. He only grunted in reply and got into a sitting position.
“We found you this way. Battered and injured, are you okay?”
“Fine.” Diomedes said. “I fell from that castle over there.”
“Into the water?! That’s a long fall!” Fluttershy exclaimed. She remembered years ago when she fell all the way from cloudsdale. Luckily for her, she was saved by a large flock of butterflies.
“I am only surprised the water carried my weight. Now then, did I break anything?”
“I don’t know.”
Turning to Zecora, the zebra merely shrugged like she didn’t know either. Diomedes decided to give himself the benefit of the doubt and rose up. Somewhat painful but at least he was able to stand and put weight on his legs. Stretching his arms he made sure they were okay. Saying nothing, he walked out.
“I hope he’s okay.”
“Look at his stride, he is walking fine. It’s only his pride.”
“Maybe I should follow him. He hasn’t been in the Everfree forest much.” Fluttershy bolted out the door. Seeming to forget a single one of them was able to slay an Ursa.
“Excuse me... Mr. Diomedes... I was only wondering if you’re okay.” Fluttershy stammered out not wanting to make the space marine lose his temper.
“I am fine.” Diomedes replied curtly. His mind was on Discord who had lured him into a trap. This wouldn’t be the first time he was manipulated. It hurt his pride. Badly. Under normal circumstances, he may of decided to have blew off steam by killing this yellow pegasus that followed him, but for some reason, his anger didn’t rise. Turning around, he looked at the pony, into it’s eyes. They were oddly human.... very human. Not only that, but they pretty much spelled out their owner’s personality. Kind, gentle, timid and unfortunately naive.
“So...” Diomedes began. He decided to maybe learn more about these so-called “ponies”. He wondered if they were anything like their dumber pack animal counterparts used on some planets.
“Hay too.”
“No meat?”
“No meat. I’d rather not eat other animals. We also eat vegetables. Like tomatoes. What do you eat?”
“Flavorless paste.” Diomedes replied. “Or actual food if I am at “home” or in this case, here.”
“So... what do you do? For a living?” Odd question here. Most space marines never had use for money. And for obvious reasons, they weren’t paid.
“I take care of animals.” Fluttershy replied. “I also have a pet, his name is Angel Bunny.”
“I dislike animals.” Diomedes said flatly.
“So what do you like?” Fluttershy asked. “Well, what do humans like?”
“That really varies.” Diomedes said. “I myself, like nothing more than just to my duty for the chapter.”
“One thing that amazes me.. it’s only that you....”
“Survived a fall from a giant mountain? My brothers can do that too. Though the unlucky ones aren’t in one piece anymore.”
“Did Discord do this to you? Throw you off the mountain?”
Just the mention of the name made Diomedes’ anger rise. He had an urge to go and snap the yellow equine’s neck, but instead released his anger by smashing a tree to splinters with a single blow from his fist. This made Fluttershy jump and give a squeak of fear.
“I will find him. I will kill him. This is an insult I will not forget.” Diomedes said partly to himself, and partly to Fluttershy.
“Yes. I will have that daemon’s head!”
“But... he’s not bad.... I mean he was reformed. He mostly is alone but he uses his magic for good!”
“A reformed daemon? Funny. His type never will reform. They only seek to bring harm to others.”
“I am sure everyone has their good side. When you first came to Equestria everyone thought you were monsters... but you’re... actually... kinda nice...”
“What now?”
“Yeah... I mean... um... from what I heard, Gabriel was very friendly to Princess Celestia.”
Diomedes was astonished. So... in the past few days nearly every unwritten law of the galaxy had been broken. Friendly xenos, a planet untouched by the ruinous powers, etc. And now... an alien who thought him as a friend? This.... truly for a second made him look at things a different way. But no, he remembered. He wasn’t going to see things their way until they earned his trust. They may of earned his brothers’ trust, some may of even earned them their personal friendship, but Diomedes knew that if he had an open mind, he would be leaving a precious vault unlocked. For now, he would make sure that he kept to his beliefs until otherwise. He continued his walk through the forest, wondering if anything would catch his interest.
“So Diomedes fell down this entire mountain?” Solomon asked looking down.
“He’s still alive.” Discord said. “That chap really had a temper.”
“Maybe it was just you.” Angelos said harshly. “Chaos never goes well with us. No matter how seemingly harmless it can be.”
“Whoa there tiger! I am harmless! Mostly! And you think me as those fools you put up with?”
“Last time I was here, you made it rain chaos space marines. I also had the pleasure of having to fight one of my greatest enemies... again.”
“I thought humans liked to fight!”
“Sindri is powerful. If we weren’t careful, this entire planet would've been a blasted hellscape before long.”
“And let’s not forget Eliphas! Now I know what you chaps are thinking. Why weren’t they weaker?”
“How did...”
“I can read minds too you know! Simple, I only cast a spell to suppress the power inside all these ponies!”
Discord looked at the two space marines and noticed their hands were straying to their weapons.
“Whoa there lad! I am reformed now. I am not going to any of that stuff. If anything, I don’t like my “cousins” anymore than you do. I’ll tell you what! If you can go around with me by you and not have an urge to murder me, I’ll even help you get a few friends of yours back!”
“Tempting, but no. I’d rather lose Armus and Thaddeus forever then have chaos be the reason of their return. We’re done here Solomon.” Angelos turned around and stalked off as Celestia walked by taking a look at the two.
“Humans....” Discord said. “They’re even more grim than you.”
Celestia only snorted in reply.

It works!
“The fall wasn’t that bad. It didn’t hurt.... too much. The water was just ice-cold. Not that it would really matter, but it’s just very uncomfortable situation.”
“Doubtful. Probably would of went right through the ice. Martellus can explain that if you are interested.”
The duo continued to walk through the forest casually for no particular reason at all.
“You did it!” The Doctor said happily as he had a unicorn friend place his two new statues into a glass display. The display was made to be a one way glass that was also bulletproof, so that even if somehow the angels fell out of position, the mirrored nature of the glass would prevent them from moving.
It had taken a while, a lot of brainstorming and a huge argument but Cyrus managed to get the job done. Carefully, he had the angels arranged so that they would be facing each other. Who it was that had to do this, resulted in a massive debate which was settled by Cyrus himself as he would personally do this. He used whatever tools at his disposal and had shifted the angels into looking at each other so they wouldn’t move. Now came the tricky part. Actually transporting two angels back to the Doctor’s shop. This was a tedious task to say the least, as picking up an angel was very dangerous. So they had ran back and gotten help from a few unicorns. Their magic was used to lift the angels onto a cart which was promptly pushed back all the way to ponyville. The process was indeed very tedious as more than one scout nearly touched one of the angels, but at the end of the day, every scout remained in the present and had their necks where it belonged as did every pony that helped.
“Well, now come downstairs!” The doctor said as he led them through a long and winding stairway.
“So... you used to be human?”
“In a sense. I looked human, felt human and acted human. But deep down, I was not human. I had two hearts for example.... wait.. you mentioned you have two hearts too....”
“Yes. All space marines are like that. We have additional implants and organs to aid our combat abilities.”
“Ah yes that’s right. The humans I met weren’t brutes like you that were ready to shoot something that as much as looked at them the wrong way.”
“We probably wouldn’t be talking if I hadn’t shot most of the things I met.”
“So... how about telling me about some of the aliens you meet? From your robotic friend, I learned you served with a thing that hunts aliens?”
“Aye, the deathwatch. We’re the best of the best. I faced Necrons, Tyranids, Eldar, Orks, Tau and many others. Necrons, being ancient machines intent on eradicating all life.”
“That reminds me of something.”
“Tyranids seek to devour every living creature in the entire galaxy for reasons Emperor knows why. Eldar merely use you for their own ends, Orks seek to wage war and senselessly murder while the Tau seek to enslave humanity.”
“Pleasant bunch aren’t they now?” The doctor joked. “I’ve met many aliens, and I can say with a thankful degree of certainty their much more friendly than the ones you put up with.”
“I was about to say you’re the only group of xenos I met that didn’t plan on murdering us on day 2.” The scout replied. “That still doesn’t mean I trust you too much.”
“Funny how you’re accepting help from a guy you don’t trust.” The doctor joked. “But I understand humans much better than that fool Lyra.”
“Who’s that?”
“Some silly pony that obsesses over humans. Hands especially. Apparently humans are mythology on this planet. Who knew they actually would come here?”
“Humph. Horses are used as pack animals on some planets. They became extinct on Terra at maybe 13,000 years ago. They couldn’t talk. Or fly. Or use magic.”
“I didn’t either until I came here. But I got turned into one of them. Having four legs wasn’t easy at first, but I became used to it.”
“Living in an alien’s body?”
“It’s fine. But that aside, here we are.” The doctor opened the door. Inside the room held many things, from hourglasses to gears but what stood out the most was a massive mirror at the end of the room. To Cyrus’ suprise, when the doctor placed his hoof on the mirror, his hoof went through the glass.
“See here? This leads to a pocket dimension. The only thing is, one second here is about 6.5 days in there. And you can only return after 156 hours in the mirror. It is almost entirely empty but you can make whatever adjustments you see fit.”
Cyrus nodded and immediately voxed Angelos to tell him the news.
“A mirror that warps time?” Solomon asked. “I have my doubts on this.”
“But to ensure the survival of our chapter, we must be willing to take risks. This sounds, silly, foolish whatever you wish to call it, but in the end, we must be willing to accept any help we have if we are to ensure the survival of the chapter.” Tarkus replied.
“But if we don’t do this, how long will it take for us to rebuild our losses? Ten years? Twenty? One hundred? It’s simply come to the fact that we cannot wait and sit still and slowly watch wounds heal. We must take action.” Cyrus argued making many heads in the circle nod.
“But at the same time, what if this goes wrong? For all we know, we may as well as open a portal to a daemon world if things go hairy!” Martellus said. “This is a risk I wish not to take.”
“Same goes for here. Who knows what tricks the xenos may have up their sleeves? Worse yet, what if even THEY have no clue about this?” Solomon said backing up the Techmarine.
“My Lord.” One scout said walking in the circle to Angelos. “Captain Diomedes is back.... he has a xeno with him.”
“Very well. Tell him to come at once. I wonder if that alien has anything to say.”
“Did I miss anything?” Diomedes asked as he stood with his brothers.
“No, but why do you have THAT with you?” Solomon asked eying Fluttershy who hid behind her mane.
“Merely followed me around. And dragged me out of a river.” Diomedes replied. “I swear...”
“If it hadn’t occurred to you already, we got better things to do than to listen to your ramblings about vengeance. As much as I hate that abomination, I wish to finish more serious matters.” Cyrus said. The rest of the people at the circle nodded in agreement. “Do we use this piece of xeno tech/artifact that one of them gave us?” The scout pointed at the large mirror that was leaning against a tree. Well, if I was actually going to be more honest, the tree was leaning against the mirror due to it’s large size.
“I still hope he isn’t too angry with me for blasting holes in his place of residence.” Tarkus said sheepishly.
“He didn’t care.” Cyrus said flatly wishing to not get sidetracked. “But... do we use this mirror or not?!”
“I say we do.” Tarkus said. “We can ensure the survival of chapter with this.”
“And risk damnation as who knows where that leads?” Solomon retorted. “Oh I know! Maybe if I send you through. If you go screaming to your death than I know that it’s not safe.”
“Maybe you got a better idea?” The scout sergeant shot back.
“Don’t use it. I am not going to risk damnation.”
“I honestly don’t trust it.” Martellus said. “The alien means well like most of his race, but I can write an entire book on how this can go wrong.”
“Maybe I can test it?” Fluttershy suddenly spoke up..... much to everyone’s surprise.
“You serious?”
“Are you sure about this?”
“Better them than us.”
“Unknown probabilities always make me nervous.”
“Is this really necessary? Why don’t we do it ourselves?”
“No. I think this perhaps maybe a good idea.” Angelos said. “I will go with you as a matter of fact.”
“WHAT?!”
“That is a terrible idea!”
“Have you gone mad?!”
“Not at all.” Angelos replied. “I do wish to see whether or not this works. And here it’s settled.” The chapter master stood up and went for the mirror waving Fluttershy along with him. Gingerly, he made his way in, followed by Fluttershy.
“Emperor preserve him.” Martellus said.
“Wait... look!”
Literally, one second later the chapter master emerged from the shimmering mirror. Followed by the yellow pegasus who looked worse for wear. Angelos was smiling, his one eye dancing with excitement.

“Just grass. That’s it.” Angelos said as he described the place. “I am not sure how far the whole place stretches and frankly, I am fine staying by the gate.”
“That the reason why she is drinking up that stream?” Tarkus asked.
“Yep. No water save for any moisture in the grass. Spending slightly over six days hardly drinking any water is pretty bad for your health.” Angelos said looking at Fluttershy. “Surprisingly she was actually hesitant at eating grass. Apparently grass while being edible, isn’t eaten very often. Just hay.”
“So what exactly did you for six days straight?”
“Spoke of anything that could come to mind with that small alien there.” Angelos said pointing at Fluttershy was still drinking up the stream. “That ranged from her animals to my battle with Kyras.”
“So... but the question is... would this be considered a piece of technology?” Solomon asked.
“Again.... it seems washing the stains off our chapters honor will be long and difficult.”
“No we don’t. I believe I did mention some time ago, maybe you weren’t there I think. The bodies of these aliens repel the ruinous powers. Perhaps may even......” Cyrus sat down for a moment and began to think. The space marines merely just looked around at each other.
“I suppose it’s time we resume our duties. In a matter of weeks, we may be able to rebuild our chapter to full-strength assuming that there are enough able-bodied recruits to go around.”
“Then we can once again go back to doing our important tasks.” Cyrus said. “When shall we go deliver Aramus?”
“Whenever Angelos intends.” Solomon said. “Understand that a journey to the eye of terror will take many lives.”
“I understand that all too well.” Cyrus said glumly.
“There is hope. Perhaps Aramus is only NEAR the eye of terror, not IN the eye of terror. After all, when Kyras sent him away.”
“Or... perhaps he would not be there at all.” Diomedes said. “I was there when Kyras gave his sentence. He merely said to go on a crusade of penance to fight CHAOS. Never mentioned the eye once.”
“Then.... how do we find him and Thaddeus? If I recall correctly, they were sent away together.” Martellus said. “For all we know, he could be... anywhere!”
“Then...... we let him come to us.”
“What are you saying?”
“Aramus had long been bitter over the black legion. He even suspected of Kyras’s corruption and dealings with the black legion long before.” Tarkus explained.
“So... you want us to lure an entire black legion warband? You have any idea....”
“No. We’re are not bring them here or sub-sector aurelia. We find a place and challenge the damn traitors. If they take the bait, then so will Aramus.”
“This is going to be risky.” Cyrus warned. “It’s better for us to spend a hundred years in fruitless search then risk more.”
“Waaaaiiiiittttt!” Fluttershy said done from drinking up the entire stream. “Maybe Twilight can help you!”
“Drag someone straight out of anywhere in the galaxy? Yeah.... that’s going to totally work.”
“No... she can! She really can.”
“Worth a try at least.” Someone said. “Let’s get going.”
“I really don’t believe this.” Solomon said watching the intense light in front of him. “I do not comprehend this in one bit.”
“No one does.” Martellus said watching the bright light take shape and form. “Who knew it’d be this easy?”
“Thank Starswirl the bearded!” Twilight said in between grunts. “He had made a spell which could transport anyone from any place to anywhere you want! Only catch is, you can’t know where that person is.”
Solomon’s lips hardly moved as he said the word “Perfect.” About a minute later. He could make out in the light, a face, hair, and a body shape. It was Thaddeus. Another moment later, and the space marine was on the ground, looking a bit confused... but from his eyes, everyone could tell he was happy.
“That’s just the beginning. We’re getting Aramus too.” Angelos said watching Twilight do her spell again.
“Twilight I presume her name is?” Thaddeus asked. “It’s been a while. Almost fifteen years.”
“Thanks. Good to see you’re not type that likes to smash everything they see.” The purple unicorn joked as the form of Aramus began to manifest.
One moment, Aramus was fighting daemons with his hammer. The next moment, Thaddeus disappeared, and the one after that, he did too. Perhaps after what seemed like eternity, he found himself in a rather odd looking room with all of his brothers, Thaddeus included as well as a lavender colored equine.
Looking up at the night sky. He admired the beauty of it. Something that he never had the opportunity to do. He noticed the dark blue alicorn descend down.
“Enjoying the night, stranger?”
“Compared to the ones I’ve gone through. This one’s perhaps the most gorgeous one I’ve seen. The moon shines brightly today.” Aramus said making sure to speak in a tone he normally reserved when speaking with other members of his race. When he had heard this planet had “friendly xenos” he thought it was some kind of joke. But no, his brothers were serious about that statement. The aliens indeed were friendly, most of them seemed glad to see him, some giving him compliments, a certain white unicorn telling him that his “mane” made him a hero of fashion. And of course, a certain pink horse then asking him to go to some celebration which he had to admit, he had some of the best food he had in a long time. But nevertheless, he felt rather..... confused. While his brothers had made it clear he was wanted, and that Kyras was dead. He found it rather odd that Angelos seemed to be rather close to these aliens. True, their benevolence was a rarity in the entire galaxy but still.... strange that his brothers were a bit too comfortable when around them. Cyrus especially, Deathwatch yesterday, friend of xenos the next.
Angelos was known for his pacts and dealings with aliens, but this.... this was a bit much. Yet at the same time, he had a feeling... one that made him feel warm on the inside. It was hope. Deep down, he wished no harm for these aliens. They cared for his well-being almost as much as they would for their own kind. In fact, he almost wanted to say, out loud to everyone, that within hours of meeting some of them, he felt a genuine care and compassion for them. Strange. He wondered how the inquisition was feeling about this.
“Art thou thinking of something?”
“Too much for me to say.” The newly promoted captain of the 4th company said. It was a rank that he was supposed to have gotten earlier for his loyalty to the Emperor. Only delayed when he was sent away by Kyras. Now that he was in command, he had a great responsibility to carry out.
“I heard you can move the moon with something you call......magic.” Aramus replied.
“Why, art thou intrigued by our powers?”
“No. I am only interested why you feel the need to yell when I am right next to you.”
“Sorry. A habit of mine.” Luna said. “This night truly is lovely. I made sure of it personally. Perhaps it may mean more to people who spent their entire lives in their toil.”
“I don’t normally have the time to go stargazing.” Aramus replied. “I merely have the time now because.... my chapter is not going to be in much action until we have fully rebuilt. This night truly is wonderful though...”
“Just for you.” Luna said smiling benevolently. “And for your brethren.”
Aramus may of just snorted from that statement. But decided against it and minded his manners. Something however ended up catching his eye.
“You see that over there?” He asked pointing at the sky which became awfully bright for some reason. “Are you doing that?”
“No....... oh..... my....”
“Emperor save us.”
The warp rift that was opened to reach Equestria had all of a sudden grown larger threatening to swallow the entire planet. In a few moments, that’s what exactly happened. Equestria disappeared and reappeared once again. Right in the domain of humanity.
“You don’t happen to have anything to do with this do you?” Celestia said asking Solomon. The librarian shook his head.
“I was actually going to ask you. There is none among us who have the strength to move entire celestial bodies. I see however the sun and moon had been brought along.”
“Yes... it would've been bad news for any of us had the sun not been taken.”
“That’d be the second planet in the sector encased in ice then.” Angelos said dryly. “What do you think caused this?”
“I don’t know.” Solomon said. “It’s not like the warp can be predicted.”
“Well, we must be vigilant on what happens for now.” Angelos said. “I think I may have a clue, but it’s not worth sharing.”
“Whoa, you don’t think he has anything to do with it do you?” Celestia asked referring to Discord.
“I am still going to slay that foul beast as soon as I see one hair on his head.” Diomedes said.
“If he does, then the moment we all lay eyes on him, he will be dead.” Angelos said furiously. “I merely hope this does not become a problem for you.”
“Very well. My men and I will continue to investigate. By the way... expect my kind to be a... well...”
“Common sight?”
Back to Equestria brothers.
“And then Aramus swung his hammer, once, twice and thrice. With that, Ulkair was defeated and we had saved our home.... again.” Thaddeus said in front of the group of foals who were giving him a fair share of oohs and ahhs.
“He’s telling stories again. He loves that.” Tarkus said shaking his head.
“I think he gets along with them too well.” Cyrus replied watching the crowd of foals ask Thaddeus for another story.
“Funny. You’re the reason they’re still alive.” Tarkus said. “Maybe we should join him?”
“Count me out.” Cyrus said. “I got more scouts to train.” The captain of the tenth turned around and left as Tarkus chuckled to himself. He went over to see what the fuss was about.
“And then Angelos, who at the time was still a captain, jumped up and smashed the mighty daemon prince. Winning the battle once and for all.” Thaddeus finished waving at Tarkus who joined him.
“Enjoying the morning?” Tarkus voxed.
“Yeah. Fine.” Thaddeus blurted out randomly. “I haven’t seen Fluttershy.”
“No, I suppose not. I am actually interested in what she saw.”
“Hospitals that way.” Tarkus said pointing in the direction of ponyville general.
“Later. Later.” Thaddeus said. “I got work to do.”
“Oh.... hello.” Nurse Redheart said as the 9 foot giant somehow squeezed through the front doors.
“Good morning... or is it already the afternoon? I am not very familiar with this planet.” Thaddeus said. “I do believe you have a patient named Fluttershy. May I see her?”
Under normal circumstances, Nurse Redheart probably wouldn’t any random pony... or thing... go see her patients, but judging from the nature of most humans and the stories she’s heard, perhaps it was best that he was allowed to go see the yellow pegasus. He didn’t SEEM to have violent intentions.
“Right this way sir.” Redheart said pointing down the hallway. “Room 42.”
Thaddeus nodded and went down the hallway, being careful not to bump into anyone or anything. The medical knowledge of this planet was rather..... quaint. Effective, as it seems that patients do stay alive.... but the methods are still.. old fashioned and could use some updating. But of course, he couldn’t spill his guts unless he wanted the inquisition to be jumping on him.
“Who goes there? Don’t hurt me! I didn’t do....”
“Fluttershy... it’s me. Thaddeus.” The space marine said. “I was checking to see if you were okay.”
“I am fine. Thanks.” Fluttershy said calming down.
“I was wondering... when you went into that mirror, what did you see exactly?”
“That’s it? Really?”
“Well.............”
“Well, I honestly didn’t have high expectations for this.” Angelos said viewing at the grassland ahead of him. Just grass, more grass, dirt and rocks.
“Can we go back now?” Fluttershy asked making way for the mirror. To her dismay, she couldn’t go through it.
“I believe Cyrus mentioned we are going to have to spend at least 156 hours in here before we get out.”
“So... we’re going to be trapped here for almost a week?”
“Pretty much.” Angelos said. He was rather surprised at her sounding concerned on this. He had always known the yellow pegasus to be somewhat anti-social, being very shy, which was rather odd as he would expect her to be better off without others around. Sitting down, he gave Fluttershy the pretense he was meditating, when in reality he was carefully observing every little move of the yellow pegasus.
1 hour:
Subject digging at the ground with her leg. From the nature of her race, this can be interpreted as normal judging the nature of the average Equestrian.
4 hours:
Subject is sitting down and staring at the sky. Can be interpreted as boredom. Not much here anyways.
12 hours: Subject has fallen asleep
24 hours: Subject is now weeping. Talking to me. Wondering if apparently my silence has anything to do with however I feel to her. I say nothing as of now and only continue.
36 hours: Subject is curled up, lonely and scared. Not much to fear here where the sun always shines. But it’s something in her eyes..... it strikes deeply at my soul. Perhaps what I am doing here is rather...... damaging to her psyche.
48 hours: Subject is looking rather gaunt and unhealthy. I am surprised she didn’t eat the grass. Merely sucked on them to get moisture out of them. Apparently grass is inedible, but hay is still good for consumption. Odd.
72 hours: I give up. I think it’s time I stop this torture. It’s having serious effects on her sanity. A gesture of goodwill should be in order.
“You knew he was observing you?” Thaddeus asked.
“He mentioned afterwards.” Fluttershy said. “At least he wasn’t mean to me.”
“So, when do you get out?”
“In a day.” The pegasus said. “Why?”
“Nothing. Good to see you’re okay. That’s all.” The space marine turned around and left.
“This night is even more beautiful than any other.” Celestia said to Luna as they looked at the night on the second day of Equestria being in Aurelia.
“I like it myself. So many new stars, and sights to see. One day, I dream of touching them. Every last one of them.”
“Perhaps one day we can. I would like to see the planets that these humans live on. Or maybe even their ways of life and why they are so.... grim...”
“They said that those of not their race had betrayed them in their moments of weakness. How sad.... friends who aren’t really friends afterall.”
“Do you think they will learn what friendship truly is about?”
“Perhaps. Only time will tell. They seem pretty reasonable.” (Only planet that Space Marines will later find themselves ever being reasonable on, will be Equestria in the future.)
“Let’s not forget the massacre they caused first time they were here.” Luna remarked dryly. “1000 ponies slain that day.”
“It was our fault.... we attacked them first. It’s rather surprising how they never retaliated with force.”
“Equestria, where you come, lay down your arms and stop fighting for once. You thinking what I am thinking?” Luna asked hopefully.
“Maybe... humans can ALL learn what friendship truly is. Equestria, where people come to leave behind their lives of suffering. We could benefit billions of beings.”
“Sounds plausible. I hope humans are just as willing as we are. Maybe one day, when we could banish chaos, everyone can perhaps, sit down and talk about things around a table instead using force.”

Once more
5 months later.
“Whoa! Look at that!” Babs said as she watched the two humans fight each other in the Ponyville market square with swords.
“That’s humans for ya! They’re a fighting bunch! Big, tough, strong. They really like to fight!”
“And their heroes too! One of them saved Twist!” Applebloom said. “I think his name was Cyrus.”
“That is my name.” The scout captain said emerging from the stalls. “I see you enjoy the scene.”
“Yeah! This is so cool! But... what do you fight?”
“Another time.” Cyrus said as he stepped into the ring to watch the outcome of the fight. Everywhere, bets were made as to which of the space marines would win. Did they say a few years ago that the blood ravens descended from the thousand sons? No? Because it looked more like they were the close brothers of the reasonable marines now.
“I swear, you must be best friends with the chapter master of the reasonable marines.” Solomon said. “Have you been attending their seminars now?”
“No. I only met their chapter master once. Their acts of attempting to turn heretics back to the light of Emperor is commendable, but foolish. I, do however, hold them in the utmost of all respect.”
“And the space wolves? Those glory hungry fools who have no respect for the other servants of the Emperor? Those that follow only what they believe in?”
“The space wolves too have my respect. They serve the Emperor. Not those who use his name for their own ends.”
The Librarian was speechless at this part. He knew Gabriel had a dislike for most of the members of the Inquisition, but to actually accuse the inquisition of not.... what? He was there when Angelos himself had said the Inquisition only does their duty... or did he mean something else?
“Are you still bitter over Isador?” The Librarian asked. Much to his dismay, Angelos turned upon him with a wrathful look.
“Never... mention that traitor’s name again.”
“Resume your duties. I have my own to attend to.” The chapter master stalked off.
“Nice one.” Cyrus remarked after he got back from the fight. “That’s the first time I’ve seen him mad in a long time.”
Solomon didn’t say anything. But only sat down and reflect on how the recent months have been turning out, and how perhaps, the blood ravens may earn a name as one of the most interesting chapters that have ever lived.
“Brothers, I got some news. It’s rather interesting actually.” Martellus voxed. “Come down at the train station.”
It had been rather eventful for the last few months. The Blood Ravens were able to replace their losses fairly quickly, and the numbers of the chapter were beginning to look healthy enough for Angelos to once again begin by deploying the chapter to the front lines. Not only that, but things in Equestria had begun to change. Recently, Twilight had gotten wings which originally had caused the space marines to keep an extra on her. But afterwards, their suspicions died down and things returned to normal. Now news was that she had traveled to Ancient Terra and had acquired knowledge of how ancient humans acted. Knowledge was power, and the Blood Ravens wanted this more than anything.
“As I said a trillion times, they looked just like you.... well shorter.” Twilight said explaining to the massive mob around her.
“What did they fight?”
“What? Nothing! They weren’t out there to smash everything’s heads in with swords!’
“Humph. Any psykers?”
“No.”
“Must be way back then.” Tarkus said. “What about their machines?”
“They had cars..... I think that’s what they’re called. You drive them? Don’t need any pony to pull them.”
“Okay. What else?”
“Computers if that helps.”
“I’d give it around the second to third millennium then.” Martellus said. “But.... you had told me... someone stole some artifacts of yours. Did you recover them?”
“Yes... they’re in good hands!”
“May I see them?” Solomon asked. “I would like to.... observe these artifacts.”
“Sure! Twilight said giving out her crown. “Though... it’s useless without the others.”
“I see.....” Solomon said. Closing his eyes, he used his librarian powers to see where this artifact has been.
“I hope you guard this better the next time.” Solomon replied as he finished. “It’s an excellent tool against chaos, though I may not wield it, under any user who intends for evil deeds, then.....”
However, a mere name was going to be the least of his worries. Because just a week later, Angelos called the entire chapter together to tell that all-but one of these so-called elements of harmony had gone missing. One more week later and a warp storm emerged that brought an entire chaos warband upon them. The fourth Aurelian crusade had begun.
