The cool autumn breeze sent a comforting chill down Applejack’s spine. She always loved the fall, it was, as the Apple family called it (just not in front of Granny) applebuck season. Now, as she relished in the memories of life on the farm, she felt a tap on her shoulder.
“Come on Applejack, our squad’s getting a new sergeant today.” A familiar voice spoke clear as day. Applejack didn't even need to turn around to tell it was Rainbow Dash
“Ah’m a’comin RD.” Applejack replied. “Or should ah call ya Dashie?” She teased.
“Aww come on!” Rainbow whined, “You heard that?”
“Ah heard everything sugarcube.” Applejack said with a wink. Rainbow Dash blushed heavily, her face turning deep crimson.
“Everything?” The rainbow haired pilot asked.
“Everything. Some things can not be unheard Dashie.”
“Don’t tell anyone! They’ll split us up!” Rainbow Dash pleaded.
“Don’t worry I wouldn’t do anything to separate ya from your Flutters” Applejack said with a smirk.
“Shut up AJ, I thought we were alone.” Rainbow Dash said with a scowl. “Besides, that’s nothing compared to what you’ve been doing with, what was it you called her again?”
“Ah don’t know what you’re talkin’ bout there Dash.” Applejack said, eyes wide and lips pursed in what was known as her lying face.
“I think it was something like... Rare-Bea-Ouch!” Applejack had punched Rainbow Dash in the shoulder. “Come on, that wasn’t cool.”
“Yea well neither is all that cuddly crap you pulled with Fluttershy.” The farmhand replied.
“Whatever, we gotta go meet this new sergeant so let’s go.” Rainbow Dash grumbled. The two girls set out for the bunker in silence.
When the pair reached the bunker, Rainbow Dash held open the door, and gestured for Applejack to move inside.
“Thank ya kindly Dash.” she said.
The room was dimly lit, but Applejack could still see the faces of her squad mates. Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Fluttershy were seated in three chairs out of the six in the dull grey room. One chair was facing all the others in a way that implied that the sergeant was to sit in this chair. Fluttershy looked at Rainbow Dash and patted an empty seat next to her. Rainbow Dash went over and sat down, putting an arm around Fluttershy’s shoulder. Rarity also made a similar gesture to Applejack. Applejack sat down and stuck with a more discreet hand hold. Pinkie Pie was content to bounce happily in her seat while she waited. Fortunately that wait wasn't very long, since the door opened again not five minutes after Applejack and Rainbow Dash came in. The new sergeant walked in and sat in the remaining chair.
"Hello sabre squad, my name is Twilight Sparkle, and I will be your sergeant for the rest of your service."
Author's Note
Hey everyone! BronyLance57 here with my first ever fic on this site! This is going to be a very action based story with (not so) subtle hints of shipping. Not to say there will be fluff, there are other stories for that. Most of the chapters are going to be longer than this (I hope) so this has the potential to be a long read. Be prepared. Constructive criticism welcome but please tell me why it's bad instead of "Hurrrr that's terrible durr" Enjoy, and here’s to the War!
Chapter 2: Enter Twilight Sparkle
“Now I know you were told you would be getting a new sergeant, but considering the nature of your operations, we felt it best to provide someone with more experience.” Twilight said.
“So what rank are you?” Rainbow Dash asked.
“None of your concern, you may address me as Twilight or ma’am, whichever you please.” Twilight replied.
“So why doncha tell us about yerself miss Sparkle?” Applejack asked.
“Very well, I studied war and weapons for five years under the Princess, fought on the front lines for three, and fought with spec ops for two.” Twilight said.
“That’s ten years!” Rainbow Dash said.
“It is.” Twilight said.
“But you look so young! How old are you?” Rainbow asked.
“Twenty-five.” Twilight replied.
“But that’s a year younger than Pinkie!” Rainbow said.
“More importantly, that means you musta’ started trainin’ when you were only fifteen!” Applejack said.
“Yes, that’s true. My family was all in the military at some point or another. My brother started training when he was fifteen as well, and he’s now in charge of the defense of all of Equestria.”
“Your brother is Shining Armor?!?!?!” Rainbow shouted. “But he’s like the head honcho! He’s literally the boss of all military behind our Wall!”
“Yes, and he is my brother.” Twilight continued, “I can only hope that I can achieve all that he has in my military career, but I’ve made some mistakes. I’ve lost some good men and women out there, and I want you to know that you might be added to the list. This is a high risk operation, and I can’t guarantee any of us coming out. If we do, this war will be over, we will be able to retire from the military early, and we will return heroes. If any of you would like to back out, I won’t hold it against you, but this is your last chance.” A beeping noise was heard from where Twilight was sitting. She looked down, slightly embarrassed. “I’m sorry, I’ll explain more about myself later, and if you don’t mind I’d like to hear more about you when I get back, but I have to leave for now.”
“Where are you headed darlin-er ma’am?” Rarity asked, almost forgetting formalities.
“Please, I know I said call me ma’am, but I’ve decided against it. Call me whatever you like, and I have some er-private matters to attend to. Meet me back here in two hours.” Twilight replied, leaving the five soldiers alone. Each thought about what just happened for about a minute, when someone sneezed. It was Pinkie Pie, who strangely hadn’t spoken.
“Bless you Pinkie!” Applejack said.
“Whoa! I almost forgot you were there Pinks!” Rainbow Dash said.
“Oh sorry! Haha I guess I was just paying attention.” Pinkie said. Rarity looked over and saw the red on Pinkie’s face.
“Well darling were you paying attention to her words or her figure?” Rarity teased.
“Uh hahaha I dunno, her words?” Pinkie Pie replied.
“Nah, you were probably just checking her out.” Rainbow Dash said, elbowing Pinkie Pie.
“Girls, she’s our new... wait, what rank is she again?” Pinkie asked
“I dunno, she didn’t say.” Applejack replied.
“Either way, you know I can’t get involved with her, even if I wanted to!” Pinkie said.
“Right, so you were checking her out then!” Rainbow Dash laughed.
“Well, she was kinda pretty but I mean...” Pinkie started.
“Then go for it!” Rainbow Dash shouted.
“There’s no way it’s that simple.” Pinkie replied, blushing.
“Fine, but if we make it, you better make a move.” Rainbow Dash said.
“Uh...” Pinkie said, blushing even more.
“It’s no big deal Pinkie, just try to forget about it for now.” Applejack replied.
“Okay.” Pinkie said.
“Good. Now Rainbow these things can’t just be forced. For now we have to focus on the mission we’re assigned, but maybe after, Pinkie can try something.” Applejack said sternly.
“Alright alright I gotcha. No harassing Pinks until after the war.” Rainbow Dash replied.
“Good, now can we please discuss something a touch more important?” Rarity asked.
" Like what?" Rainbow Dash asked.
“Like the fact that the one running our mission is the sibling to the Shining Armor? Like how our CO is younger than all of us, but has served for longer? What do you suppose could be going on?” Rarity asked.
“I wonder how high a priority is being placed on this mission.” Rainbow Dash said.
“I just hope it isn’t too dangerous.” Fluttershy mumbled.
“Ah wouldn’t worry much ‘bout that Shy. Rainbow’s always got your back if things get hectic, and you’ve made it out of some pretty shaky situations, even without her.” Applejack said.
“Either way, this has got to be some pretty serious business!” Pinkie said.
“Yea no kidding.” Rainbow Dash said. “I bet this is a job for more than just a small unit.”
“The Equestrian Military must have a lot of faith in us.” Rarity said.
“Well we are a fairly well rounded group.” Applejack said. “We’ve done a lot together girls.”
“I still wanna know more about what exactly we are doing.” Rarity said.
“Well we’ll find out in two hours now won’t we.” Rainbow Dash replied.
“So we h-have to wait?” Fluttershy asked.
“Looks like it.” Applejack replied.
Author's Note
And at my pace, the audience will wait two months.
Hey it’s me again, with another short one. Just bear with me until we can get to real content it’s coming I promise. Don’t expect regular updates, but over the summer I may be able to semi-frequently. Please excuse my grammar, it’s not the greatest (also repetitive language much?). Let me know if you see any mistakes cause I’m sure they’ll be there. These first few chapters are gonna be a bit short, and are mostly as an intro so you get to know my take on all these characters (Also DID SOMEBODY SAY SHIPPING hahaha bear with me on that,). The best is yet to come so stay tuned!
