Memories past
The birth
Load Full StoryNext ChapterDoctors rushed through the hospital, each speaking to another with a sense of urgency. A mare was about to give birth, and the doctors were getting her to a room so they can help deliver the baby. With the doctors was a scrawny orange Pegasus with messy brown hair, who seemed very concerned for the mare.
The doctors came to a room and went in, bringing the mare to a hospital bed and setting up for delivery.
The stallion held the mare's hoof in his hand, looking into her silver eyes with his hazel eyes. The mare smiled weakly at him. Her breathing was soft and labored as she waited for the doctors.
"Star," The stallion began. "My Shining Star, I'm here for you." The stallion moved closer to Shining star, nuzzling her softly.
"I know, Spectrum." She responded. "I'm so...excited." Her breaths were short. The two locked eyes, each one feeling a sense of happiness as they were about to be parents.
Soon enough, a young stallion tapped Spectrum on the back. Spectrum turned to the stallion, he was one of the doctors.
"Excuse me, but we need you to wait outside so we may work."
"Yes, Doctor Stable." Spectrum sighed. He turned back to Shining Star, who stared uncomfortably at Spectrum. "Don't worry, I'm still here."
Doctor Stable lead Spectrum out into the waiting room. Spectrum sat down in a chair as he waited. He occasionally glanced between the clock and the hallway where Star was. It seemed as if days passed as he sat, the anxiety getting to him. Spectrum's mind raced as he pondered the idea of being a father. How would he do? What would he name the child? Spectrum and Shining Star never did come up with a name for their child yet, they wanted to wait and see what he was like before giving him a name.
As he waited, he watched a Unicorn couple come in for the same reasons that he needed to. The couple walked up to the desk, Spectrum noticed a young colt with them too. A nurse answered them soon enough.
"Ah, Velvet." She said. "I'm assuming it's time?"
"Yes," Velvet's husband responded. "We came here as soon as possible."
"I'll get some doctors then. Why don't you and your son take a seat?"
"Sure." The husband turned to Velvet, giving her a caring look. "Don't worry, honey. Everything will be fine. The Doctors will come get us when it's time."
Velvet nodded and soon enough, some doctors escorted her to a nearby hospital room.
"Let's go sit down, Son." Velvet's husband said.
"Okay." His son replied.
The two walked over and sat down in some chairs next to Spectrum. Velvet's son played with some toys from a box nearby while the father watched him. Spectrum watched too, knowing that this stallion may be helpful for him and Shining Star.
"Um, Excuse me?" Spectrum called to the stallion. He looked towards Spectrum with a raised brow.
"Yes?" He responded.
"Hi, I see that you're wife is having a child." Spectrum stated the obvious. "My wife is about to give birth too, and...Well, this is the first time for us, I was wondering if you could tell me any tips for being a good father?" Spectrum felt stupid after asking that, but the stallion simply chuckled.
"I know that feeling. Name's Crescent, Crescent Sparkle." Crescent offered his hoof to shake, which Spectrum did. "If anything, be there for your child no matter what." Crescent cast a solemn glance at his son, who was levitating a sword made of building blocks with his magic, pretending to be a knight. "My son, Shining Armor wants to be a knight for the Princess. He's talented with magic, and he'd make a great protector. But then, think of the lives he would take as a soldier. I don't want my son to come home with the blood of others on his hooves."
Spectrum glanced to Shining Armor, who was poking a stuffed dragon toy with his sword, declaring that he had saved the kingdom from the vile beast.
"Even then, it is his dream and I won't take that from him. You can't do that to a child. You must be there for them, no matter what."
Spectrum took in these words, hoping to memorize what Crescent said.
Soon enough, a doctor arrived and called Spectrum into Shining Star's room. Spectrum entered and saw Star cradling her child. The baby had a beige coat, with small amounts of black hair on his head and tail. He cooed cutely in his mother's hooves, staring into her silver eyes with his hazel eyes.
"He has your eyes." Shining star said softly to Spectrum.
"And your coat." Spectrum replied breathlessly.
"Yes, I must say congratulations to you two." Dr. Stable said as he walked towards them with a clipboard. "You've given birth to a healthy baby boy." Doctor stable looked over the clipboard. "Usually when Pegasi and Earth Ponies have children, anatomical anomalies can show up, but you're child has none to report."
The baby cooed softly again as it saw light glimmering of the metal of the clipboard. The child was enthralled by this and began to reach for it. Shining Star and Spectrum took notice of this and couldn't help but say 'Aw' at how cute this was.
"I think he wants your clipboard." Spectrum stated.
"Hah. That's cute, but I'm afraid I can't let you have this, little one." Doctor Stable said.
The baby reached out again, trying to grab the clipboard. Then Doctor Stable began to feel a slight pull on the clipboard. Doctor Stable gazed astonished as the clipboard was taken from his hands by some unseen force and levitated itself over to the baby.
Spectrum and Shining Star watched with equal shock and astonishment as their Earth Pony child somehow levitated the clipboard into its hooves and began to nibble on it. The room sat silent, all the occupants were mesmerized by the display.
"What in the name of Celestia..." Doctor Stable said aloud.
"It's like he can manipulate wind..." Spectrum stated.
"Yes, like a Twisting Wind...I think we've found his name..." Shining Star spoke, her breaths still short. "Our little...Twisting...Wind..." Her voice began to waver.
"Star!?" Spectrum yelled concerned. The heart monitor Shining Star was plugged into began to slow down.
"She's going into cardiac arrest!" Doctor Stable yelled. He ran up and began to preform C.P.R. in an attempt to resuscitate Shining Star. "Come on...One...Two...Three."
