//-------------------------------------------------------// Memories past -by link4588- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// The birth //-------------------------------------------------------// The birth Doctors rushed through the hospital, each speaking to another with a sense of urgency. A mare was about to give birth, and the doctors were getting her to a room so they can help deliver the baby. With the doctors was a scrawny orange Pegasus with messy brown hair, who seemed very concerned for the mare. The doctors came to a room and went in, bringing the mare to a hospital bed and setting up for delivery. The stallion held the mare's hoof in his hand, looking into her silver eyes with his hazel eyes. The mare smiled weakly at him. Her breathing was soft and labored as she waited for the doctors. "Star," The stallion began. "My Shining Star, I'm here for you." The stallion moved closer to Shining star, nuzzling her softly. "I know, Spectrum." She responded. "I'm so...excited." Her breaths were short. The two locked eyes, each one feeling a sense of happiness as they were about to be parents. Soon enough, a young stallion tapped Spectrum on the back. Spectrum turned to the stallion, he was one of the doctors. "Excuse me, but we need you to wait outside so we may work." "Yes, Doctor Stable." Spectrum sighed. He turned back to Shining Star, who stared uncomfortably at Spectrum. "Don't worry, I'm still here." Doctor Stable lead Spectrum out into the waiting room. Spectrum sat down in a chair as he waited. He occasionally glanced between the clock and the hallway where Star was. It seemed as if days passed as he sat, the anxiety getting to him. Spectrum's mind raced as he pondered the idea of being a father. How would he do? What would he name the child? Spectrum and Shining Star never did come up with a name for their child yet, they wanted to wait and see what he was like before giving him a name. As he waited, he watched a Unicorn couple come in for the same reasons that he needed to. The couple walked up to the desk, Spectrum noticed a young colt with them too. A nurse answered them soon enough. "Ah, Velvet." She said. "I'm assuming it's time?" "Yes," Velvet's husband responded. "We came here as soon as possible." "I'll get some doctors then. Why don't you and your son take a seat?" "Sure." The husband turned to Velvet, giving her a caring look. "Don't worry, honey. Everything will be fine. The Doctors will come get us when it's time." Velvet nodded and soon enough, some doctors escorted her to a nearby hospital room. "Let's go sit down, Son." Velvet's husband said. "Okay." His son replied. The two walked over and sat down in some chairs next to Spectrum. Velvet's son played with some toys from a box nearby while the father watched him. Spectrum watched too, knowing that this stallion may be helpful for him and Shining Star. "Um, Excuse me?" Spectrum called to the stallion. He looked towards Spectrum with a raised brow. "Yes?" He responded. "Hi, I see that you're wife is having a child." Spectrum stated the obvious. "My wife is about to give birth too, and...Well, this is the first time for us, I was wondering if you could tell me any tips for being a good father?" Spectrum felt stupid after asking that, but the stallion simply chuckled. "I know that feeling. Name's Crescent, Crescent Sparkle." Crescent offered his hoof to shake, which Spectrum did. "If anything, be there for your child no matter what." Crescent cast a solemn glance at his son, who was levitating a sword made of building blocks with his magic, pretending to be a knight. "My son, Shining Armor wants to be a knight for the Princess. He's talented with magic, and he'd make a great protector. But then, think of the lives he would take as a soldier. I don't want my son to come home with the blood of others on his hooves." Spectrum glanced to Shining Armor, who was poking a stuffed dragon toy with his sword, declaring that he had saved the kingdom from the vile beast. "Even then, it is his dream and I won't take that from him. You can't do that to a child. You must be there for them, no matter what." Spectrum took in these words, hoping to memorize what Crescent said. Soon enough, a doctor arrived and called Spectrum into Shining Star's room. Spectrum entered and saw Star cradling her child. The baby had a beige coat, with small amounts of black hair on his head and tail. He cooed cutely in his mother's hooves, staring into her silver eyes with his hazel eyes. "He has your eyes." Shining star said softly to Spectrum. "And your coat." Spectrum replied breathlessly. "Yes, I must say congratulations to you two." Dr. Stable said as he walked towards them with a clipboard. "You've given birth to a healthy baby boy." Doctor stable looked over the clipboard. "Usually when Pegasi and Earth Ponies have children, anatomical anomalies can show up, but you're child has none to report." The baby cooed softly again as it saw light glimmering of the metal of the clipboard. The child was enthralled by this and began to reach for it. Shining Star and Spectrum took notice of this and couldn't help but say 'Aw' at how cute this was. "I think he wants your clipboard." Spectrum stated. "Hah. That's cute, but I'm afraid I can't let you have this, little one." Doctor Stable said. The baby reached out again, trying to grab the clipboard. Then Doctor Stable began to feel a slight pull on the clipboard. Doctor Stable gazed astonished as the clipboard was taken from his hands by some unseen force and levitated itself over to the baby. Spectrum and Shining Star watched with equal shock and astonishment as their Earth Pony child somehow levitated the clipboard into its hooves and began to nibble on it. The room sat silent, all the occupants were mesmerized by the display. "What in the name of Celestia..." Doctor Stable said aloud. "It's like he can manipulate wind..." Spectrum stated. "Yes, like a Twisting Wind...I think we've found his name..." Shining Star spoke, her breaths still short. "Our little...Twisting...Wind..." Her voice began to waver. "Star!?" Spectrum yelled concerned. The heart monitor Shining Star was plugged into began to slow down. "She's going into cardiac arrest!" Doctor Stable yelled. He ran up and began to preform C.P.R. in an attempt to resuscitate Shining Star. "Come on...One...Two...Three." //-------------------------------------------------------// Childhood //-------------------------------------------------------// Childhood Five Years later Twisting Wind sat in his room, concentrating hard. He exerted all his mental strength into this one daunting task, calling upon all the might he could muster for this one crucial moment. Finishing his math homework. He sighed dejectedly at the paper with simple kindergarten-level math on it. No matter what, Twisting wind always had trouble with numbers. He glanced around the blue walls of the room, noticing a few toys laying about. A smirk crawled onto the five-year-old's face as an idea came to him. Twisting Wind concentrated, raising his hoof towards a plastic dragon toy he owned and a toy sword he had gotten for his birthday. The sword lifted into the air, as did the dragon. Twisting Wind pulled his hoof back, and the sword came to him. He grabbed the sword with his mouth and turned towards the dragon. "You wont threaten this world anymore, you vile demon!" Twisting Wind said, his voice muffled by the toy sword in his mouth. "What do you hope to do to me!?" Twisting wind lowered his voice, attempting to sound deep. "I'll show you! Hya!" Twisting Wind jumped at the toy dragon, attempting to hit it with his sword. The toy dragon levitated out of the way in the nick of time, then charged at Twisting Wind. Twisting Wind barely jumped out of the way, the toy dragon nicking his leg. "Ha ah!" The dragon mocked. "You silly boy!" Twisting Wind leaped into the air again, using his powers to keep himself afloat. He hovered just a short distance from the dragon and began to slash wildly with his sword, not missing a single strike. Twisting Wind reared his head back, then slammed downwards, using a push from his powers to rocket him onto the ground, and also using it to cushion him from the fall. The ground shook when he landed, knocking a few toys of a shelf nearby. "Aaah! I've been defeated!" Twisting Wind said in his 'deep' voice again. "Why did I think to oppose a stallion like you?!" "That's what you get for trying to rule Equestria!" The fun was interrupted when the door was opened rather forcefully by Spectrum. "Wh-wha? Twister...I thought I...I...What was I talkin' about?" Spectrum's words were slurred, his breath smelled of alcohol. "Twis...What in the name of Tartarus is goin' on here?" Spectrum stumbled into the room, fumbling over his own hooves as he came in. "I'm sorry, dad." Twisting Wind visibly flinched as his dad came in. "I was taking a break for a minute...The math it too hard!" Spectrum didn't answer, he swayed around dazed. "Daddy?" Spectrum shook his head and turned towards his son. "Sorry. You said your math is...Diffi-difficult?" Spectrum sat down next to the chair that Twisting Wind was using earlier. "Lets see what we can do 'bout that." Spectrum looked at the paper in front of him. At least half of the work was done, but stopped at the multiplication problems. "Lessee here. Two times...two. Whats...four!" Spectrum walked over to Twisting Wind and moved him over to the paper. "I may be drunk, but I still know...stuff." Twisting Wind sat down and began to work with Spectrum helping him. Surprisingly, they got the math done quickly and after some correcting, they had answered the questions correctly. This triggered something in Twisting Wind. He began to remember things. He remembered a floating fortress, high above the clouds. He remembered being there, looking for someone, as well as a drunk old man that somehow helped him later. Anything else was still a blur in Twisting Wind's mind. He began to wonder what he had just seen. A child of his age couldn't make any sense of what he had experienced. "Hey, dad?" Twisting Wind asked. "Have you ever felt like...you were somepony else?" Spectrum put a hoof to his chin and thought. "Whenever I'm sober." He said with a raspy laugh. "I'm sorry, you were being serious... No, I can't say I ever have." There was a pause, neither of them spoke for an uncomfortable amount of time. "Well, you go back to what you were doing. I need a nap." Spectrum then left the room, leaving Twisting Wind to himself. Twisting Wind walked back over to the toy sword and dragon, looking down at them as an idea dawned on him. Twisting wind slowly stood up on his back legs, using his powers to keep himself balanced. He raised his hoof forward and pulled the sword to him again, this time wrapping his hoof around it. Twisting Wind smirked and gave the sword a few good swings. For some reason, this felt much more natural to him. Twisting Wind picked up the dragon again and began to play once more, this time using his bipedal stance. Each stroke of the plastic blade flowed much more naturally than swinging it with his mouth. Twisting Wind smiled as he played. He wasn't sure, but he had a feeling that maybe this was his special talent. Two Years later Thus sun shone high outside, Twisting Wind carried a lunch tray in his mouth as he walked to a table to eat at. He looked around, trying to see where his friends were. A table just a few meters away was occupied by some ponies he wouldn't consider friends exactly, but they were acquaintances at best. He trotted over and sat down next to a white unicorn filly with a moon overlapping a sun for her cutie mark. "Uh...Hi." Twisting Wind said. "What's up?" The other foals glanced uncomfortably back and forth, save for one. A grey Pegasus with messy black hair put his hooves on the table, looking at Twisting Wind with a look of pure spite. "Get lost, blank flank," He said. "We don't talk to ponies like you." Most of the other foals at the table laughed, save for the white unicorn. "Leave him alone, Strato!" She yelled. "At least he doesn't have a cutie mark for getting hit by hail!" Strato glared daggers at the unicorn. "Y'know, Eclipse, the only reason we let you hang out with us is because you're my cousin. If it weren't for that, you'd be over with the blank flanks-" Strato pointed a hoof at Twisting Wind "-like him." "If that's the only reason, then I'm going to go sit over there!" Eclipse stated vehemently as she stood up and levitated her tray with her magic. "You morons do what you want." She glanced at Twisting Wind. "Wanna sit down with me?" Twisting Wind thought a moment, then nodded. "Sure, I'd be glad to." "You're seriously ditching us for this guy!?" Strato yelled. "Fine! But don't blame me if ponies stop hanging out with you!" "Buzz of!" Twisting Wind snarled. "You became such a meanie after you got you're cutie mark, its as if your special talent is being a jerk!" "Why you little-" "Come on," Eclipse interrupted. "Lets go sit down now." "Fine." Twisting Wind said, casting another glare at Strato. Wind and Eclipse walked away from the table and over to a small hill not too far away. They sat down and began to eat their food. Twisting Wind felt something familiar about this girl. "What did you say your name was?" Wind asked. "Eclipse." She responded, taking a bit from her sandwich. "Morning Eclipse." Eclipse. Somehow this name reminded Twisted Wind of something, but he couldn't remember what. He grunted slightly as he tried to think. Twisting Wind saw himself in a place of metal with several small lights on the walls. He sat in a chair next to a woman wearing a black uniform. She smiled at him, somehow Twisting Wind felt flustered. His train of thought was interrupted as something hard struck him in the back of the head. Twisting Wind fell to the ground, clutching the back of his head in pain as he heard the familiar laugh of Strato in the background. "Hey!" Eclipse yelled. Twisting Wind opened his eyes, he saw a rock lying just a short spot away from him. He felt something wars run down the back of his neck. Twisting Wind took his hooves off his head and saw fresh blood on them. Rage began to well within Twisted Wind as he stood up. "Do not stand for this," A deep guttural voice echoed in the back of Wind's mind. "Time to teach the impudent brat a lesson." Tears streaming down his face, he turned towards where the rock had came from to see Strato and Eclipse a short distance away. Eclipse was yelling at Strato, who rolled his eyes. Strato raised a hoof and struck Eclipse on the side of the head, knocking her to the ground crying. That did it. Twisting Wind stood up on his hind legs again, raging fire burning in his eyes. Strato looked over at him and started walking over with ill intent in mind. Wind shifted his body to the side, placing his hooves above each other. The air began to ripple between his hooves. The air twisted itself into a ball, everything began to go monochrome through Twisting Wind's eyes. Then he shoved his hooves forward, sending a powerful blast in Strato's direction. The unwitting Pegasus was caught off guard by this odd event, and was sent flying away when the blast hit him. Wind the used his powers to propel himself towards the airborne Pegasus, stopping short a few inches of the dazed bully. Wind charged another blast and sent Strato plummeting to the ground. The Pegasus landed hard, a small cracking sound was heard as he hit ground. Twisting Wind slowly landed near Strato, glaring with enough force that, if possible, Strato would burst into flames. The voice let out a laugh as if to congratulate Wind for maiming Strato. "You have done well, child. Heed my words and you shall become a strong force in this world." Wind walked away from the unconscious Pegasus, not passing so much as a glance in his direction. What Wind failed to notice, was that everypony, even the teacher, was staring at him with a mixture of awe and fear. Even Eclipse was uneasy by this sudden turn of events. Twisting Wind stopped dead as he saw how Eclipse backed away when he drew near. It suddenly hit him, what he had just done. To him, what he had done was perfectly justified, but he never took into account the fact that nopony besides his father knew about his powers. Now they all perceived him as a freak. "Wind..." Eclipse said, her voice shaky. "You...You didn't...Kill him, did you?" Wind's eyes went wide. Through his act of rage, he never considered what would happen if used on another pony. A small grunt from behind them indicated that Strato had regained consciousness. Wind and Eclipse stared at him as Strato attempted to stand. His muzzle was bleeding from hitting down, at least one of his wings was broken, and from the looks of things his hind leg was also broken. Strato stared directly at Twisting Wind both fearfully and also with anger. "I'll...I'll get you for this..." Strato said weakly as he limped away. "Do not let him flee, finish this!" The voice demanded. A small part of Wind wanted to go through with that order, but right now he was too distracted with his actions to do anything. "Twisting Wind!" A voice called angrily. Wind and Eclipse both turned around to see their teacher, Miss Cheerilee in an uncharacteristically angry mood. "I'm not sure what that was I just saw, but I will not tolerate violence like this on my school!" "But miss Cheerilee-" "No buts!" She interrupted. "I'm going to let your father know about this, as well as notify the princess about your...abilities." Cheerilee walked away. There was a palpable sense of sadness in the air. After all that had occurred, one thing stuck out in Wind's mind. Cheerilee mentioned telling the princess. Twisting Wind began to wonder if this was a good thing, or a bad thing. Only time would tell. Two weeks later Twisting Wind and Spectrum waited at the train station, a somber feeling in the air. Princess Celestia arrived only days prior and asked for Twisting Wind to be brought to her school for gifted unicorns. Wind immediately knew he would have trouble fitting in, mostly because he wasn't a unicorn. Spectrum fared no better. Wind would be gone for a long time, guilt began to overtake him as he realized had spent so much of his time with wind drunk after Shining Star had passed. "Dad," Wind broke the silence. "I'm gonna miss you..." His voice began to waver. Spectrum pulled Wind into a tight hug as the train pulled in. "I'm gonna miss you too son." Spectrum said softly. The conductor stepped of the train and signaled for them to begin boarding. Spectrum let go of his son and helped him onto the train. Inside, once Wind's baggage was put away, Spectrum smiled solemnly at Wind. "You got your ticket?" Spectrum asked. Wind nodded and held it up with his powers. "Good. Now, while you're gone, don't forget. Be polite to everyone, don't let yourself ever get too angry. And most importantly, be sure to write every now and again." "Okay, dad." Wind said with a nod. "Good. I love you, son. I'll be sure to send you a letter before the month ends." "Thank you." The two sat in silence for a moment. Then Spectrum turned around. "I should be going now. Remember what I said, don't let your anger get the better of you." Then he left, leaving Wind all to himself. The train soon departed the station. Twisting Wing stared solemnly out the window, watching the image of Ponyville fade away as the train went further away. Soon enough, Wind dozed off, another memory triggered as he slept. A large jungle, many dangerous creatures lurked about. High in the trees were villages, he saw himself inside one of these huts. The smell of smoke soon penetrated his nostrils. A dark figure enters the house with a blazing sword in hand. The memory faded away as the train slowed to a halt. Wind awoke to find that he had reached his destination. With a sigh, wind grabbed his bags and got off the train. Already waiting there at the station was a group of royal guards standing at attention. They saw Wind, then moved to the side. There now, heading Wind's way was the princess herself. She beamed with radiance as she walked, a truly magnificent sight in the already magnificent town of Canterlot. Her white coat reminded Wind of Eclipse, as did her cutie mark. Though they never spoke a word to each other yet, Twisting Wind felt comfortable around her already. "Greetings, Twisting Wind." Celestia spoke. Wind looked  with awe at her. Behind the mask of apathy that comes with aristocracy, there was a great kindness not only in her eyes, but also in the air around her. "I have heard of your abilities. I must say how unusual this is, for an Earth Pony to have kinetic powers." "You mean you've never seen something like this before?" Wind asked, somehow confused by this news. "I have not. In all my years of being here, you are the first case of this that I have discovered." Celestia offered Wind her hoof. "Nonetheless, I am willing to teach you what I can about this." Wind hesitated a moment, then took her hoof. "Thank you. I don't want to hurt anypony again." He said with a hint of sadness. "Do not worry, young one. I shall help you. Your abilities will be refined, and I'm sure you'll make plenty of friends while at the school. Come now, let me show you where you'll be staying." Celestia lead Twisting Wind to a golden chariot with two Pegasus royal guards ready to take them wherever they needed. Wind and Celestia sat down in the chariot and the guards flew off. Wind looked over the edge of the chariot, getting a perfect view of Equestria's crown jewel, Canterlot. It was every bit as wonderful as he had imagined. The white marble streets shined brightly in the glorious sun with several other bright colors from the buildings: mostly purple, magenta, and Pink. "It truly is glorious, isn't it?" Celestia asked, apparently noticing Wind's wonderment. "Yes, much time was spent making this city the way it is today. I hope you enjoy your time here." "I think I will." Wind said with a smirk. "It's not Ponyville, but I think this won't be too bad." "I'm glad you think that." The rest of the ride was spent in silence. Wind began to reminisce again as another memory triggered. High above a bustling city, walls of metal around him; a hiss and the floor is gone. He plummets down onto a round platform with enough impact to knock it crooked from the bridge it was attached to. Several soldiers in white armor panic as he begins to use his powers to sling them from the high perch. Several more in silver appear from nowhere; they meet a similar fate. Now a large soldier clad in a dark blue suit appears. Wind smiles then charges, preparing a blast to hit the soldier. "We're here!" Celestia said cheerfully, breaking him from his train of thought. "This is where you'll be staying!" Wind looked up from his seat and basked in awe at the grand sight of the princess's palace. The golden rooftops glowed brightly amongst the white marble, making this particular building stand out much more vibrantly than the others. "The castle?!" Wind yelled with barely contained excitement. "I get to stay in the castle?!" "Yes, in fact, you'll be bunking with another student of mine." "Really? Who's that?" "You'll meet her soon." The chariot finally touched down and Wind and Celestia climbed out. Celestia's horn lit up with a golden aura and the doors to the castle swung open. Celestia and Twisting Wind walked through the ornate halls of the great palace. Several tapestries depicting great moments through Equestria's history lined the walls and red carpet lined the middle of each pathway. "This place is amazing." Twisting Wind said, glancing about the halls. "I reminds me of...Somewhere." "Really?" Celestia asked as they came to a stairway. "Where is that?" Wind didn't answer at first. He debated internally if it was a good idea to tell her about his visions. Wind couldn't find a reason not to, so he decided to tell her. "I don't know. Ever since I  little, I mean really little, I've been remembering someone else's memories." He said with a sense of longing in his voice. "They all come in at little bits, and they're all fuzzy. I don't know what they mean, but I know that I'm always in them." Celestia didn't answer right away. She seemed to be deep in thought. "Princess?" Wind asked. "Oh, sorry!" Celestia said sheepishly as she snapped back to reality. "I was just thinking." "About what?" Celestia stopped a moment and faced Wind. A smile went across her face as she began to speak. "Do you know what reincarnation is?" She asked Wind. "No, I don't. What is that?" "Reincarnation is when a pony dies and is reborn in a new body. Sometimes the reborn pony has memories of their past life. You're most likely remembering a past life of yours. Tell me, what does the pony you see look like?" Wind stopped. He never truly payed attention, it always felt as if it was him the whole time and never bothered to notice anything besides what he was doing. Wind told this to the Princess, who then asked him to describe what he does. "The life I remember, I'm really powerful. A bunch of guys in armor are always trying to hurt me with...I think magic blasts...Anyways, I always use the powers I have to stop them. Sometimes it doesn't work and I get hit somewhere, but it always stops hurting fast." Celestia put a hoof to her chin and thought who or what he could be remembering. There were no factions in Equestrian history that wore white armor, even then, he was still unique in the fact that he was the only Earth Pony that could apparently use magic, so there were known ancestors she could reference. "There's more." Wind interrupted. "I sometimes hear voices, telling me to do bad things with my powers. I never listen to them unless I get mad. That's why the teacher told you about me. A Pegasus was being mean to me and my new friend, then I hurt him really bad with my powers. The voice told me I did a good job when I hurt him." "This is...troubling." Celestia spoke. "I was told that you can get angry easily, and I had hoped that we could help you with that once you arrived here. I see now that maybe emotions aren't all that's playing into this." "What does that mean?" "I cannot say for sure yet. Time will tell what it means." The two were silent for the remainder of their walk. They came up to a small set of golden doors. Celestia opened them, revealing a somewhat large bedroom with violet walls and and a small bunk-bed. On the lower of the mattresses was a violet unicorn filly with purple hair and a star for her cutie mark. She was surrounded by a comically large pile of books, as if she had made a fort out of them. Wind also noticed a small purple lizard resting atop one of the books. "Hello, Twilight." Celestia called. "I have someone I want you to meet." Twilight looked away from her book and at Twisting Wind. They both stared uncomfortably at each other for several seconds, neither pony knowing what quite to say. "Um...Hi?" Twilight started. "Hi." Wind replied. "Uh...H-how are you?" "Fine...want a book to read?" "...Sure...?" Twilight levitated a random book from the pile over to Wind, who grabbed it with his powers as it came to him. He read the cover of the rust colored tome; 'Equestrian History: Conflict and Resolution' it read. Wind decided that he would have to read it sometime as the title intrigued him. He glanced back to Twilight and was about to thank her, but stopped once he saw her staring with bewilderment. "How did you do that?" Twilight asked amazed. "Twilight, this is Twisting Wind. He came to my attention after he got into a fight with a young Pegasus and used his kinetic abilities to win." Celestia spoke. "He'll be taught alongside you under my tutelage. This means that you two will be working with each other for a while. I'll leave you two together so you can get to know each other better. Have fun!" And with that, Celestia left Twisting Wind and Twilight alone in their room. An awkward silence hung in the room, neither Twilight nor Wind knew what to say exactly to another. Twilight had an approximate idea of what she was going to say, but she didn't know exactly how she would word it. Wind could tell right away what it was she was curious about and decided to initiate the conversation. "I guess you want to know about-" Wind used his powers and spun the book about in front of him. "-this, right?" Twilight was enthralled by the display before her. Wind had her figured for a smart pony, but she was surely to be surprised if not even Celestia had heard of his abilities. "Does that work like magic?" Was the first thing Twilight managed to say, breaking her trance. "I'm not a Unicorn, so I don't know how magic works." Upon saying that, Twilight hopped down from her mattress and immediately began to lecture Wind about how magic worked. He didn't pay attention for the most part as he couldn't understand Twilight's superior dialect. But from what he did understand is that magic did work similarly to his powers. Both his abilities and magic worked by drawing energy around you into yourself and then manipulating it. "If you need more info on this," Twilight finally seemed to be ending her lecture, much to Twisting Wind's relief. "I have a book on this sort of thing-" Twilight levitated a large blue tome over to Wind, "-right here! Go ahead and read it!" "Alright." Wind replied. He walked over to the bunk bed and climbed up to the top bunk. There, he looked at the old book that Twilight had given him. The book read Magic 101: Five hundred spells for new magic users. Wind opened the book and began to read. For the most part, the beginning chapter explained most of what Twilight said, but thankfully in a simpler manner. The rest of the day passed quietly as Wind looked through the different spells. One he saw caught his eye, mostly because the page was hastily scribbled over; obscuring most of what it had to say and leaving only the spells name: Electroshock. An image that hadn't been scrawled over depicted a Unicorn in a dark robe blasting lightning from its horn. Twisting Wind was about to ask Twilight about the spell, but he had noticed that it was deep into the night outside. He decided to go to bed now as he wanted to be wide awake when it came time for his training to begin. Wind levitated the book he was reading back to Twilight. "I'm gonna go to bed. Here's your book back." "Thanks." Twilight said as she took the book with her magic. "Goodnight." "Goodnight." Within minutes, Wind was asleep. As he slept, another memory played in his mind. Darkness heavy in the air. A powerful adversary was before him, his friends behind him. A dark object flies down behind their opponent. His friends go for the flying contraption, but their enemy tried to stop them. Wind jumps in the way, using his powers to keep his opponent at bay. There's a bright flash, then darkness. Twisting Wind awoke with a start as the dream ended. Day time had rolled around and it would be time for Wind's training to begin soon. Wind climbed down from the bed and noticed that Twilight was gone already. Perhaps her teachings began earlier than his. Either way, Twisting Wind felt conflicted on the inside. He wished to know what these visions he kept receiving meant, but at the same time he wasn't sure he wanted to remember his past life, assuming that's what he is experiencing. No matter the case, Wind knew that he would eventually know, whether he wanted to or not. Wind decided not to dawdle any further and he got ready for his teachings. As soon as he was finished, he left the room and closed the golden door behind him, ready to tackle his training. Three years later Twisting Wind sat in silence in his quarters. Twilight was out messing with transfiguration, a magic that Wind was unable to utilize. In the past three years, he had learned that he cannot wield magic like Unicorns can. He only had control over kinetic abilities. Basic abilities he had learned using his power was: Levitation, Telekinesis, Speed bursts, and the ability to create blasts of kinetic energy. At the moment, he was trying to make sense of what his visions meant. He searched his mind, another memory triggering as he searched. A dank decrepit forest, mud covered his legs. Before him was a woman with the same abilities he had. The two fought with them, eventually the woman was blasted into the maw of a tentacled beast. Another bright flash, then the memory faded. Wind's brow furrowed, he concentrated harder, trying to find a clearer memory. Heavy breathing, not his own. An imposing figure stood before him, glaring through its mask. Wind felt a sense of dread and respect as he bowed before the figure. He was congratulated, praised for defeating the woman. Wind stood up, ready for another mission. Then the figure pulled out a sword and impaled him. Then darkness. Wind's eyes shot open in shock as the memory ended. He did not remember who the figure was, but something triggered anger within him. A ripple formed in the air around him, Wind glared as a deep voice entered his mind. "Feed into your anger. Celestia does not know what you are capable of." The voice spoke forcefully. "She only wishes to weaken you...But I can strengthen you...You have resisted for a long time, child, but you will join me soon." The door opened to the room, Celestia stood with Twilight at her side. "Hello, Twisting Wind." Celestia greeted. "Twilight was about to head into town to get some supplies for her next class. Is there anything you need?" "Now is your chance to prove yourself...Kill them." The voice returned. "Strike them down, and you will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine!" "No..." Wind muttered. "What was that?" Twilight asked. "Can you speak up?" Wind clutched his head as the voice repeated itself. "No, no, stop!" Wind pleaded. The ripple in the air became more intense, a Cobalt blue glow began to form in a bubble around Wind. "Wind, what's wrong?" Twilight ran over to Wind's side. "Stay back!" He hissed. Twilight instantly did so, running back to Celestia's side with fear and confusion in her eyes. "Kill them now!" The voice yelled. "They are powerless against you!" "Shut up! Get out of my head, you Celestia forsaken freak!" A small tremor shocked through the room, it was only a matter if time before this prepubescent time bomb went off and the entire top level of the castle was obliterated. "Princess, what's going on? What's happening to him?" Celestia did not answer, instead her horn lit up with a golden glow, then it transferred to her eyes. Her vision became monochrome, the only color she could see came from Twilight and Wind, who were both seen as a vibrant blue glow. Above Wind a dark mist enshrouded him, wrapping itself around his head. A sense of dread shot through Celestia, the rare emotion of anger slipping through the cracks of her usually stoic persona. "You..." Celestia venomously spat. Her horn lit up again, the glow much more intense than before. She fired a blast of pure light at the dark mist, hitting it right in the center. The mist became visible to the others as it let out an otherworldly scream. "Return to the ice caps, you monster!" Celestia commanded. The light of her horn flashed brighter as the mist began to dissipate. Another pulse of energy, then the mist dissipated completely. With the beast gone, Celestia came to Wind's side. The ten-year-old panted heavily, sweat dripped profusely from his face. His eyes snapped open, they were bloodshot and dry. Tears began to well and slowly drip down his face. "Relax now, my student." Celestia's voice took on a motherly tone. "He is gone now, and he will not return for a long time." She gently rubbed the back of his head as she took him into a protective hug. "Princess, what was that?" Twilight asked confusedly. "Now is not the time." Celestia responded. "Go and get the supplies you needed, I'll be here keeping an eye on Wind." Twilight nodded and left without another word, closing the door gently behind her. Celestia shut her eyes as she continually stroked the back of Wind's neck. After a span of several minutes, Wind finally calmed down enough to speak. "W-who was that?" Wind sniffled. "He s-sounded like t-the voices...T-the ones that want me to hurt ponies..." Celestia, for one of the few times Wind had seen, wore a stern look about her face. A sense of longing was in her eyes, clearly whatever it was that haunted Wind was triggering painful memories in Celestia's mind. "The voice you heard was from King Sombra." Celestia spoke, her tone still soft despite her disposition. "He was a unicorn who became enthralled by dark magic. Eventually, the darkness corrupted him and he attempted a hostile takeover of Equestria." Celestia walked over to a nearby window and gazed solemnly at the mountains. "He is the one responsible for turning my sister into Nightmare Moon, as well the one who took over the Crystal Empire." "C-crystal Empire?" Wind asked, finally calming down. Celestia's head shot up a little. In her reminiscing, she had forgotten that nopony knew what it was she was talking about. She let out a sigh then continued. "The Crystal Empire was a vital part of ancient Equestria. The crystals grown there were unique in that they could be used to store magic away. They were used in many sorts of incantations and rituals during then. I have always assumed that this is why Sombra took over the kingdom, so that he could use the crystals for his own malicious purposes. After Sombra's apparent defeat, the Empire vanished. I see now that he may have broken his seal." Celestia looked wind right in the eyes with a serious air about herself. "Twisting Wind, if King Sombra's words ever find their way into your mind again, do not hesitate to tell me." "Yes, Ma'am." Wind replied swiftly. "What should I do now?" "Go find Twilight out in the marketplace. There are some supplies you will need for our next class. Be cautious, Sombra feeds off anger and hatred. Do not let your emotions get to you as you're gone." Wind nodded, then left to go find Twilight, leaving Celestia to herself. She walked over to a nearby window and peered out towards the northern horizon. Celestia could feel Sombra slowly regaining his strength near where the ruins of the Empire was. A sense of dread went through Celestia. If Sombra could influence Wind in any way, it could mean a disaster for Equestria when he returns in full. At the same time, Celestia felt that Wind would be strong enough to resist. A surge of confidence coursed through her as she put more thought into it. Even if Wind became corrupted, Twilight showed much potential. Celestia had a feeling that one of her apprentices would eventually play a major role in Equestrian history. Celestia let out a small chuckle, then walked down the the throne room, casting a sorrowful glance at a nearby depiction of the moon. "Only ten more years, sister." Celestia said aloud. "Then we will meet again." //-------------------------------------------------------// Reunion and Revalation //-------------------------------------------------------// Reunion and Revalation Seven Years later Twisting Wind sprinted through the thick brush of the Everfree Forest. He risked a glance behind him but ultimately decided against it. If he wasn't looking ahead of himself, he'd surely crash into a branch, and many loose branches had already torn apart the grey training robes he wore. A sharp turn came unexpectedly upon him. Wind narrowed his eyes and reared his hoof back as if he were about to punch someone. He thrust his arm forward, sending a shock-wave through the air and blasting a thick bunch of trees away effortlessly. Wind jumped through the newly-made pathway and into a clearing. He glanced about, trying to find a way out of the clearing, sadly there weren't any trees for him to blast through, he was surrounded only by cliffs. Wind snapped in the direction of the hole he had created as he heard what was chasing him drawing closer. The ground shook with each heavy step. A guttural roar echoed through the forest as a massive reptile came smashing through the trees. A roughly humanoid monster breathed heavily as it glared with red-hot intensity at Twisting Wind. The beast roared as it slammed one of its large muscular arms into the ground; lumbering forward on two stubby legs and roaring from its tortoise-like mouth, puffs of air coming from under a bony plate covering its nose and forehead. Wind smirked as the beast came further into view, the monster's blue scales shining in the moonlight. The odd creature seemed somewhat familiar, in fact, the whole scenario seemed very familiar. Fighting a large beast in a heavy jungle while lightly armed. Twisting Wind knew why, his past life did something like this once. Regardless, Wind now had to focus on the large beast that wanted to eat him whole. Wind used his powers and took his bipedal stance, drawing a sword from his hip and smiling devilishly at the beast. "Come on, big guy..." He muttered to himself, his voice steaming with cockiness. "Let's see what you got!" The beast roared as if it were answering Wind's challenges. "Alright then!" Wind yelled. He launched forward at the monster with his powers and rammed right into the beast's leg, but with barely enough force to stagger it. The monster retaliated with a powerful swipe of its arm that knocked Twisting Wind all the way into one of the rock faces. He impacted with a loud thud, a few small chunks of rock were knocked loose as he hit. "Okay...That was good..." Wind grunted. The beast scooped him out of the small crater he had formed with one of it's four-clawed hands and roared loudly in Wind's face, blasting a rancid odor of decay from previous meals into his face. "Woo, buddy, your breath stinks!" The monster slammed Wind into the ground then stomped on him. Wind let out a roar of pain as the monster's elephant-like foot smashed into his back. Then it picked him back up. Wind was too dazed to make any sense of what was happening, he only began to regain his awareness as the beast opened its maw and drew its arm closer to its face. "Oh, Shi-" Wind was cut off as the beast shoved him into its mouth and swallowed him whole. The monster licked its chops then began to move out of the clearing. It stopped as it felt a hard thump from inside of it. It growled as it felt something moving about inside itself, then began to shake violently as that something began to crawl out. The monster gagged and hacked as it felt hooves climbing inside its throat. Then suddenly, Twisting Wind blasted from its mouth covered in saliva and bile. "Oh, Celestia...This is gonna be a hard smell to get out." Wind said as he looked over his soaked training robes. He couldn't dwell on this for too long, as the monster was on the attack once again. It charged at Wind with he intent of trampling him again, but somewhat slower that usual. It seemed that Wind's earlier attack had hurt it somewhat. Wind stood up again and prepared to fight, but he had dropped his sword when the beast threw him. Panic began to overtake him as he was now without a weapon against this behemoth. Seeing no other options, Wind ran to the side as the monster's charge came to a close. The beast whipped right past him and crashed into some trees that hadn't been completely blasted away by Wind. Wind took a breath of relief as the reptile was dazed from its failed attack. He took the opportunity before him to search the makeshift arena they fought in to find his sword. Luck struck Wind as he saw his sword just a short distance from the cliff he was thrown into. But then Lady Luck ran away as fast as it arrived when Wind also saw that the beast had recovered. Deciding not to take any chances, Wind made a break straight for the sword. The monster roared and charged, kicking up dust and rocks as its prey ran away. Wind turned around and fired a kinetic blast at the monster, but to little affect as the beast just shook it off. Wind cursed under his breath and started running to the sword again. The monster swiped its claw again and narrowly missed Wind, hitting him just enough to trip him up and force him to alter his path. "Will you just let up!?" Wind yelled behind him. Wind thought as he ran, trying to devise a plan to get his weapon back. The obvious problem was the fact that the monster was preventing Wind from getting to it. He needed to somehow distract the monster long enough for him to get to his weapon. Wind cast a scanning glance at the environment. Some large stones lay just a small distance from where he was thrown to. An idea came to Wind, who smirked devilishly as the monster slowed down. The beast's breath became slow and labored. Fatigue was clear in the monster's posture. Wind's smirked widened to a grin as he took this opportunity. He stood up on two legs again and stretched his left hoof out towards some of the rocks. The air rippled around the rocks as Wind lifted them into the air. With a flick of his wrist, the rocks soared through the air; the first rock struck the beast in the side of the head with enough force to stagger it, the second rock knocked it back a little bit more, and the final rock knocked the beast on its back. "Yeah!" Wind yelled as he ran to his sword. The beast rolled over and slowly stammered to its feet. It glared at Twisting Wind with intense fury and charged once more. Wind groaned loudly as he saw the monster was once again on its feet. Thankfully, he was only a short distance from his sword. Wind outstretched his hoof and pulled the sword towards him with his powers. It occurred to him that he could have saved a lot of time if he had just done that in the first place. Thinking nothing of it, Wind held his sword and stood to face the monster with a look of determination. The beast raised its arm high and swung down with the intent of crushing Twisting Wind. Wind stood his ground as the monster's fist came down. At the last second, Wind jumped out of the way, pulling off a graceful side-flip and landing perfectly on all-fours. With a kinetic burst of speed, Twisting Wind ran up the monster's arm and leaped high above the beast's head. Wind held his sword upside down and increased his descent speed with his powers. He stabbed straight through the beast's skull, causing the behemoth to roar in pain. That didn't finish the job though, as the reptile tried to grab Wind from off its head. The beige Earth Pony noticed this almost immediately and repeated his previous attack, this time landing in a different spot on the monster's head. Wind leaped elegantly off the monster's head, spinning around and firing three kinetic blasts at it, and each one hitting their mark. The first blast staggered the monster, the second blasted it sideways, and the third knocked it to the ground. Now was the time to finish it. Wind stood on his hind legs again and concentrated. His mental energies all went into one solitary act. The air around the monster began to ripple as it got up. The beast roared and charged at Twisting Wind. The Earth Pony didn't let up his concentration. The air ripples intensified slowly, a blue glow began to engulf the reptile. The beast reared its arm back and prepared to strike. Wind raised his front hooves high into the air. At first, nothing happened, save for the monster's arm being halted mid-attack. Then, the beast began to rise slowly from the ground. Wind could feel the beast now in his grip. He felt excited, he had never lifted something this big before. Wind opened his eyes and saw the blue-scaled lizard thrashing violently in the air in a desperate attempt to grab a hold of something. "All right, buddy," Wind yelled at the beast. "It's time you went-" Wind paused as he threw the monster against the ground. "-And just-" Wind thrashed it into the same hole he made in the cliff "-Died already!" Wind charged a kinetic blast and launched it at the monster, throwing it with his grip at the same time. The combined force threw the monster high into the air. Wind then threw himself up, blasting much higher than the monster did. Once Wind had reached the climax of his ascent, he drew his sword and swung down; using his powers to once again speed up his descent. Twisting Wind's blade slammed down hard into the monster, the force of Wind's fall combined with the speed the monster was flying at combined together; Wind's blade cut deep into he beast's side. Wind let out another blast and the reptile went barreling beck down to the surface, landing with enough force to completely obscure the clearing below with dust. He then used his powers to slow down his descent. He landed softly in a rather large crater that the blue lizard had left behind. Wind charged his kinetic abilities again and released a bubble of energy that cleared the dust away, giving clear view to the devastation from the monster's crash-down. The blue lizard lay limp in the center of the crater, several trees were mangled and torn around the edges of the crater, and many rocks that were knocked loose from the cliff were scattered about. Wind was taken aback by this destruction. The crater itself had to be at least seventy meters wide, and now that Wind looked around some more, he could see some other Everfree creatures that were unfortunate enough to get caught in the blast. "Holy..." Was all Wind was able to say. Before he could think about his actions any further, Wind glanced up to the sky. It was now deep into the night and the more dangerous creatures of Everfree would be out soon. Wind dreaded the possibility of having to fight a creature stronger than what he just beat, though he certainly felt as if he could do that. Deciding against his arrogant side, Wind quickly fled from the scene, finding the devastated pathway that the beast destroyed in its rampage. The branches that once tore and snagged at his robes were all scattered and flung about the pathway, stray twigs snapping under Twisting Wind's hooves. Despite the impending danger, Wind decided to walk through the forest. Hopefully the fight scared off the other creatures. Wind thought to himself as he walked. He glanced about cautiously, peering in between the twisted gnarls of the trees. The night beasts were more dangerous than regular Everfree monsters, but none were able to avoid detection easily. Wind's heightened senses also contributed to the factor. To Wind's relief, the eldritch forest seemed tranquil this night. Most ponies found the forest to be terrifying due to the ever-present darkness and the beasts. Twisting Wind related with the latter, but the former he found ridiculous. The Everfree was a beautiful place to him; the forest teeming with life at every inch, the unnatural ways the forest worked, as well as the sapient life the forest held. All of these factors combined to form a deep peace within Twisting Wind. Thinking back to his previous actions, Wind began to feel somewhat guilty about killing the blue-scaled lizard. Celestia had taught him to respect life in any form and he had slain a creature that most likely was defending its territory from an intruder. He quickly pushed these thoughts out of his mind, telling himself that the act was of self defense and it was either it or him. The tranquility of the forest began to fade after that. A chill ran down Twisting Wind's spine as he felt a...presence in the air. A dark presence, one slightly familiar but at the same time alien to Wind. He turned his head off to the side, where he saw a small cave entrance. The presence seemed to come from there. It was calling to him, whispering to him in the back of his mind. Against his better judgement, Twisting Wind walked towards the cave. He glanced to his sword, knowing that if anything was in there, at least he had a weapon. Wind turned his attention back to the cave. It was, thankfully, too small for anything too dangerous to be inside of. He stepped inside the cave, taking a good look around first. The cave was an ordinary stone cavern. Water dripped from stalactites scattered far from each other on the cave's ceiling. Despite the lack of any source, the cave was rather well lit. Wind took a few steps further in, and almost immediately saw movement going deeper into the cave. "I have a bad feeling about this..." Wind said to himself as he followed the figure in. The light in the cave faded away the deeper in he went. Soon enough, Twisting Wind was in total darkness. He looked about quickly, trying to find a source of light to lead him in the right direction. Then, out of the corner of his eye, there was a light. Wind smiled and quickly ran over into the light. He passed into it, and was surprised when he found himself in a white void. "What?" Wind said aloud. Suddenly, random stone bricks flew in from nowhere, surrounding Wind in a tornado. The bricks then flew out and assembled a floor underneath Wind, then walls, and finally a roof. The walls had many intricate carvings and depictions, but one stood out. In the center of the room, a carving depicted a circular shape sided by two spiked shapes. This symbol radiated darkness more intense than anything he had felt. Not even the influence of Sombra from Wind's childhood was this strong. Twisting Wind walked up to the symbol and ran his hoof over it. A strong chill rushed through Wind, the cold embrace of the darkness being somewhat welcomed by him. The feeling seeped into his skin, coursing through his veins and engulfing his bones. Wind quickly pulled his hoof away. Celestia had warned him of dark Magic, and though he was not a unicorn, the darkness still had the ability to corrupt those unfortunate enough to wield it. Twisting Wind turned around and began to walk away, but stopped dead in his tracks as he saw three intimidating figures behind him. "This is the one..." The first figure, a tall avian humanoid Wearing black robes covered with a heavy armor that fit its slender form. "He is the one we must worry about?" The avian's voice was high and raspy, somewhat like a stereotypical bird-alien in a sci-fi film. "Thanatos, shall we kill him now?" The bird's black feathers ruffled as it craned its neck towards the figure next to it. Thanatos was much taller, and did not wear robes like the other two did. Thanatos wore a suit of heavy silver, somewhat cybernetic armor. A long black cape flowed from the human's back, and a black visor stared coldly from a rather elegant warrior-like helmet. Thanatos put a hand to his chin as he walked over to Twisting Wind and examined him. "Is he truly the one?" Thanatos spoke, his voice gruff and aristocratic. "I have seen cockatrices more intimidating than he is..." Thanatos turned towards the final figure, who's face was obscured by a heavy black hood covering his face. "What about you?" Thanatos asked the figure. "Do you think that he is the one?" The figure stood still, staring at Wind from underneath his hood. The figure shook his head and walked away from the group. "You do not think that?" Thanatos asked. "He is very powerful. You do not sense this?" The black robed figure turned around and looked at Twisting Wind again. A cold calculating glare came from under the hood. Wind felt eyes piercing his soul from under the hood, searching for every secret he has. The figure broke the stare and nodded at Thanatos. The figure's silence was even more unnerving to Wind. "Very well. So he is the one..." Thanatos spoke as he looked Twisting Wind in the eye. "Child, we have a message for your Princess." Thanatos walked over to wind and grabbed him by the neck, lifting him into the air as he glared from behind his mask. "Tell her, that the darkness will return. We shall arrive and Equestria will be ours for the taking. You shall watch as we annihilate all that your kind has built, as well as cast the crown into an abyss of fire and pain!" "Yes! You will watch from your grave as we destroy everything you know!" The avian responded. "No." Thanatos simply replied. "You are Equestria's only hope, but you are but a child. We shall give you the opportunity to hone your skills before our arrival. Shall you take our offer, then we shall await battling you. Shall you decline, and we will force you to watch as we kill your princess." "No, no ,no!" The avian yelled. "We kill him now! He is our only opposition, if we destroy him now, then we shall win-" The bird was interrupted as Thanatos punched him in the side of the head. "Hold your tongue!" Thanatos yelled. "There is no honor in killing a child. If he truly is the one, then I shall give him a warrior's death! I am a patient man, so you can continue with your training until we arrive. Then you have the opportunity to battle us!" Thanatos said to Wind. "Now, sleep, child." Thanatos took his free hand and touched his index finger to Wind's forehead. A surge of energy rushed through Wind, then he fell unconscious. Three hours later Twisting Wind awoke with a start, the memories of the figures still fresh in his mind. Thanatos, the robed human, as well as the Avian. Wind needed to tell the princess right away. He stood up and stretched his back, looking around to see where he was at. He was in an old house by the looks of it. He had slept on a wooden bed with a simple mattress on top and some small blankets. A noise came from the house. Wind could sense somepony downstairs. Wind crawled out of bed and noticed that his robes were gone. He blushed slightly, but he didn't know why. Wind looked into a nearby mirror. He looked like death, and definitely smelled like it too. Wind turned to the side, trying to see if there was any scrapes or wounds on his side. Nothing. Not a mark. Not even on his flank. Wind sighed as he looked. Fifteen years and still no mark. Regardless, Wind needed to tell the Princess about Thanatos and his allies. Wind ran downstairs, finding himself in a room with many cages of varying size strewn about. He could smell something cooking in the other room. Wind walked into the kitchen and saw a canary yellow Pegasus making pancakes.  Wind wondered how she was able to see through her long pink mane. "Um...Hello?" Wind called. The Pegasus squeaked, startled. She turned towards Twisting Wind and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw it was him. "You startled me." She said, her voice meek and quiet. "I hope you like pancakes." She gestured over to the table, where a plate with a pancake already made sat. Wind nodded politely and went over to the table. He sat down and watched the odd Pegasus as she cooked. She clearly had experience with taking care of ponies. Twisting Wind could sense a great kindness inside her. He hadn't said any words to her, but he already liked her. Wind levitated a knife and fork and proceeded to eat his pancake. The mare that had found him watched in amazement as she saw Wind use his telekinesis. "How do you do that?" She asked him. "It comes naturally." Wind responded simply as he took a bite of his pancake. "Dear Celestia, I can't remember the last time I ate anything like this!" Wind said with joy as he took another bite. Silence reigned in the room as he ate. It was awkward for the mare. She felt humbled in Wind's presence. The Princess's star student, right next to Twilight Sparkle, was eating in her kitchen. "So," Wind began after finishing his pancake. "What's your name?" The mare didn't answer. She hid under her mane, saying something inaudible. Wind asked her to repeat herself, but it only garnered the same results. Wind looked at her bemused at her, then an idea came to him. Wind slowly waved his hoof in front of the mare's face. "You will tell me your name." He said. The Pegasus's eyes dilated. "I will tell you my name." She repeated in a monotone voice. "My name is Fluttershy." Wind smirked as his idea worked. Fluttershy shook her head, dazed, then looked at wind with an irritated look. "Please don't do that again." She said, her voice stern. "Don't worry. I won't...So, Fluttershy," Wind Started. "How exactly did you find me?" "Oh, well, I was feeding my animals last night, when I heard a loud crash come from inside the Everfree forest. I got worried that something was going to get my animals, so I stayed out and watched the entrance. After a little bit, I think an hour, you came out talking about something called Thanatos, then you passed out...What were you doing in the forest anyways?" "Trying to find peace with myself." Wind once again stated simply. "It was going good, then some sort of lizard-thing attacked me." "Lizard thing?" "Yeah, big humanoid-ish thing. Blue scales, tortoise looking head. Think it might be able to swallow a Manticore whole." Wind held his hooves wide apart to give an exaggeration of the beast's size. He looked at Fluttershy, who was staring in fear. "That sounds like a Pygmy Dragon..." Fluttershy said in shock. "They aren't supposed to live in Everfree...What did you do to it?" Wind shook his head. He didn't answer with his words, but with silence. It spoke much more than he did. "I'm sorry...But it was either me, or it." "I understand..." Fluttershy said solemnly. "But...Surely there could have been another way-" "I would have tried to find one, but there was no alternative...Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to Canterlot. I have something important to tell Celestia." Wind stood up abruptly and began to head towards the door. "Wait!" Fluttershy called. "The train won't be here for a few hours...Why not stick around town for a little bit?" Wind paused. He'd be stuck for a while. One thing was nagging at him though. He still didn't know which part of Everfree he had left from. "What town am I in exactly?" "Ponyville." Fluttershy responded. "Ponyville..." Wind's outlook began to improve as several thoughts came to him. There were a few things he knew he needed to do while he was here. A white Unicorn came to mind, as well as his father. "I guess I can wait." "Alright! I can show you around town if you'd like-" "No need," Wind interrupted. "I know my way." Wind was about to open the door, when he remembered one last thing. "By the way, where are my robes?" "Oh, I sent them to a friend of mine's place. She said that she would fix them up for you, as well as get the smell out." "Good." "Why do you need your robes, anyways? Is it a formal thing, or..." Fluttershy began to trail off as she noticed something she wondered why she hadn't before. She had to ask Wind a question before continuing. "Um...How old are you?" She squeaked. "Seventeen. Why, how old are you?" "Oh, um...Sixteen...Sorry, I was just curious about...Uh..." "Why I don't have a cutie mark yet?" Wind answered for her. "Don't worry, I'm used to it." There was another pause, then a knock on the door. Fluttershy gave wind a slight nod, then she opened the door. Standing behind the door was a white Unicorn with a purple mane and tail, in her magic grasp, she held Twisting Wind's robes. "I'm so sorry that I'm late! My parents are visiting and Mother wanted me to finish some things for her before I left- Dear Celestia! Is that him?" The Unicorn asked in excitement. "Uh, yes, Rarity." Fluttershy responded. "That's him." "Oh my, stars! He's every bit as magnificent as the newspapers make him out to be! Why, he's even...Um...Am I seeing this right?" Rarity asked as she looked at Wind. "Oh...Now I see why you wear these robes..." Rarity scratched the back of her neck with he hoof. "I promise I won't tell anyone. Pinkie Promise." "Pinkie Promise? We don't have hands." Wind spoke. "No, not like that." Fluttershy answered. "It's something our friend Pinkie Pie came up with." "Yes, Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye." Rarity said as she did silly gestures that matched what she said. "It's something we do when we swear never to speak of it again, or tell anyone about it." "Okay, now may I please have my robes?" Rarity nodded, the levitated the robes over to Twisting Wind, who grabbed them with his own levitation. Wind nodded, then slipped on his training robes. "I'm sorry, but I had to tear off one of the sleeves. I didn't have enough fabric to fix it entirely, so I needed to improvise." Wind looked himself over. Other than a missing sleeve, his robes were completely fixed. Twisting Wind gave them a thankful nod, then he went for the door. Before he fully left, he turned back towards the two mares. "Before I go," Wind began. "Does a Unicorn named Morning Eclipse still live in Ponyville?" "Yes, why?" "She's an old friend of mine, and I'd like to see her." Wind responded simply. Without another word, Wind walked out the door and left the two mares to themselves. He still had a few hours to kill before he returned to Canterlot. First thing was first, he would find his father. Then he would find Eclipse. After that, he wasn't sure what to do. "Time to go, I guess." Wind said to himself as he began to walk. In his mind, he knew the more pressing matters of Thanatos took place above his personal desires, but he now had time to indulge himself. "Alright. Let's go." Two hours later Twisting Wind walked uncomfortably through the streets of Ponyville. He knew he had a reputation, but he was beginning to find this ridiculous. Ponies stared at him from every corner, even if they never directly spoke to him, he still found it somewhat annoying. He smiled slightly as he saw his old home come into view. He had a strong feeling that his father had moved out, but maybe the Pony living there knew where he went. Coming up to the house, Wind rapped on the door. There was a pause, then the door opened to reveal an older looking Pegasus. His coat was a somewhat faded shade of orange, and his hair was cropped slightly. The Pegasus looked at Wind with a slight look of confusion. "Do I know you?" He asked. Wind didn't answer. He knew that this was his dad. Without any words, Wind wrapped Spectrum in a tight hug. It took a moment, but Spectrum recognized Wind. "Son!" he exclaimed as he returned the hug, pulling Wind inside and closing the door behind him. "Dad!" Wind responded. There was silence, Spectrum and Twisting Wind embraced each other for another few minutes, letting the moment sink in for one another. Wind let go first, his father soon after. They both laughed and sat down in the living room, with Wind sitting on the couch while his father sat in a faded green recliner. Wind looked around the room. He noticed a wall with several cut-out newspaper articles decorating it. Each article was a story about Wind. A small smile crossed Wind's face as he read. It made him feel good that his father still kept tabs on him. "So," Spectrum started. "What brings you back here, boy?" "Where do I begin..." Wind sat and told his father the past few weeks, all up to his confrontation with Thanatos. Wind decided to omit that part. It was something that only the Princess could hear. Other than that, Spectrum seemed proud of his son. Wind felt a sense of pride as his father smiled. Wind then asked his father to tell him about his life. "Well, a few years back I started going to some group therapy to stop drinking." "And?" "Haven't had a drink for three years. I think that's a good sign." "Yeah. I'm glad that we're both doing good." The two both let out a laugh, but it quickly died down. Spectrum looked solemnly at his son. "You know what today is, right?" Spectrum asked with a melancholy tone. "Today's your birthday. You remember what we used to do on your birthday?" Wind nodded slowly as his smile faded. On Wind's birthday, they would pay a visit to Shining Star's grave. "I was going to head out later tonight, but you said that you'd only be here for a few hours. I know your friend Eclipse, so we can go find her then head to pay our respects to your mother. That sound good, son?" Spectrum asked. "Yeah. I'd like that." Wind responded. "When are we leaving?" "Just a few minutes." Spectrum answered. "I need to get some things cleaned up here first. Why don't you go fin Eclipse? She lives just down the street from here." "Alright. Meet me outside." Wind said as he got up from his seat. Spectrum gave him a nod, then Wind left. As he stepped outside, he wondered if it was a good idea to not tell his father about Thanatos. If Equestria truly was in danger, then everypony needed to know. Wind walked down the street, still thinking heavily about what had transpired, when he heard a voice. "Trust your instincts." A soft male voice said. "They do not betray you." "Who-" "You will know in due time. For now, enjoy your time." "Wait, what are you talking about?" Wind called. He waited for a response, but was met with silence. Something in Wind told him to go along with what the voice said. He begrudgingly agreed, and continued towards Eclipse's house. In the back of his mind, Wind knew that voice...It seemed eerily familiar. Regardless, Wind focused right now on finding Eclipse. But he had only an approximate guess of where she lived. Another idea came to him. Wind closed his eyes and concentrated, reaching out with his powers to try and find Eclipse. The image became clear to him. Just a few houses down and on the left, that's where Wind could sense Eclipse. He smiled, then ran down to the house he sensed Eclipse from. He knocked gently on the door. Wind waited a moment, then the door opened. Standing there was a radiant white Unicorn with a yellow mane. Her red eyes shined in the sun. Wind could tell by the mark on her flank that she was Eclipse, and the years had certainly been kind. "Hello?" She asked him, her voice now carrying a cockney accent. "Do I know you?" Wind didn't know what to say. She was breathtakingly beautiful. "Uh...Hi." Wind said. "I...I'm Twisting Wind. Remember me from school?" Wind waited for Eclipse's response. She looked him over a few times before smiling. "Ah, yes. Your the one who gave my cousin a beating." Eclipse said slyly. Wind flinched slightly as the memory of beating up Strato returned. "Uh, I'm sorry about that." Twisting Wind responded. "No, don't be." Eclipse said, much to Wind's confusion. "I think he learned a thing or two from that." "Really? That bullheaded moron learned something?" "Yeah. Not to screw with anypony with telekinesis or you get your legs broken." They both gave a small chuckle, but that died down quickly. There was what Wind thought was the millionth reign of the awkward silence in the past few hours. He made a mental note to put a bit in a jar every time that happened. "So. I'm just gonna get right to the point." Wind started. "Today's the anniversary of my mother's death. Me and my dad were going to go pay our respects to her, and I was wondering if you would like to come with us." "Well, I don't have any plans for today. Wouldn't this be more of a family thing? I mean no offense, but it really isn't my business." "Yeah. I know about that. It was more of my dad's suggestion. You don't have to if you don't want to." Eclipse smirked and walked up to Wind, getting uncomfortably close to him. "I'm only saying yes because you remind my of someone." Eclipse said. "Funny, that was the same reason I first talked to you." They both laughed and left to go find Spectrum. There search was short, as Spectrum was already waiting just a few blocks down the road. He laughed slightly at seeing Wind and Eclipse. Though neither had really talked, Spectrum knew that they'd be good friends. "Alright." Spectrum said. "Let's go visit mother." The cheery tone the group had faded quickly as they entered the graveyard. Despite the well order the place was kept, it still felt somewhat off to Wind. As if he could feel something. "We're here." Spectrum stated as they came up to a tombstone. It read 'Here lies Shining Star, wife and mother (1974-2007)'. Spectrum closed his eyes and sighed. Wind and Eclipse stood next to each other, with Eclipse placing an arm around Wind in comfort. "I never knew her." Wind said to no one. "But I know she'd be proud of me." Eclipse gave a comforting smile and nuzzled the side of Winds cheek. "I'm sure she would." Wind closed his eyes. His mind began to reach out, he could sense many presences nearby. All of them were watching him. Forms began to appear, all tall humanoids wearing long hooded robes. All stood around Wind, speaking in cryptic metaphors that he couldn't understand. Finally, one stepped forward. His face was obscured by a robe, but his robes were not long and were covered in light armor. He held his hands behind his back as he walked forward. "Hello there." He spoke. Wind recognized the voice as the one who told him to trust his instincts earlier. "You most likely don't remember me, but I know of Thanatos and the others. Please, once this is over, abandon the Princess." "What?" Wind mentally spoke to the apparition. "Abandon Equestria? For what!?" "Please, Wind, or whatever your new name is, listen to me. You aren't the only one with your abilities. You yourself will not be able to take on Thanatos by yourself, you need to find the others!" "Who are you!?" Wind yelled. The apparition paused, then began to fade along with the other robed figures. "Find them." The ghost said as it finally vanished. Wind stood still, breathing heavily. Then he ran out of the grave yard. Eclipse and Spectrum called after him, but Wind did not answer. "I'll go follow him!" Eclipse said as she ran off. Twisting Wind ran through the streets of Ponyville, hoping that the train to Canterlot had arrived. He stopped at the train station, keeping his eyes on the tracks as he waited for the train. As he waited, his mind raced. Who was that ghost? What did he mean by what he said? And most of all, why did he seem so familiar? That ghost was definitely someone he knew, but Wind couldn't remember knowing any humans...Then it occurred to Wind, humans don't exist in Equestria. It puzzled him how he knew what they were, despite them being myths. "What the hell is going on..." Wind said to himself. He looked around the station, wondering what was taking the train so long. His blood ran cold as he saw a tall imposing figure make its way down the path. The figure was clad in dark armor, a oriental styled helmet rested upon its head. On its chest was a panel with many blinking lights and switches. It stopped right in front of Wind, glaring through dark red lenses in the mask's face. There was a heavy pause, the only sound was a heavy rhythmical breathing. "So this is where you went..." A deep echoing voice emanated from the figure. "I have tracked you for many years, and now we meet for the last time." "Who are you?!" Wind yelled. The figure raised an arm towards Wind, positioning its fingers like it was holding something. Wind gagged as what felt like a noose began to wrap around his neck. He was lifted into the air by the figure. It slowly dawned on him who this figure was. Before anything else could happen, there was a loud noise. It sounded like a train whistle. Wind awoke with a start as a train pulled into the station. Sadly, it was heading to Trottingham, not Canterlot. Wind sighed and wiped some sweat forming on his brow. The dream he had was fading now, and he hadn't a clue who the figure was anymore. "Hey! You!" A gruff voice called to Wind. Wind turned around and saw a grey Pegasus walking towards him. One thing that stood out was that the Pegasus was missing a wing. The mark on his flank depicted a dark cloud with hail raining from it. Twisting Wind instantly knew who this was. "Strato..." Wind said in a low voice. "So you remember me. That's good, because I certainly haven't forgotten you!" Strato stopped right in front of Wind, glaring daggers at the Earth Pony. "What do you want? I have something important to do, so don't waste my time." "You bet I have something important, you son of a bitch!" Strato yelled as he lowered his head into Wind's face. "You're the reason that this-" Strato moved his side so that Wind could see a scar where a wing should be. "-is missing!" "I didn't take your wing, Strato." Wind said with an exasperated sigh. "Yeah you did! After what you did, my wing was broken beyond rehabilitation! The doctors that removing it was a better course of action!" Wind shook his head and sighed again. "If I remember correctly, I only beat you up because you threw a rock at the back of my head and you also decked Eclipse." Wind's voice was starting to take an aggravated tone. "Now, kindly leave me be." "No way!" Strato yelled. At this point, Twisting Wind was starting to question Strato's intelligence. "Do you realize how much you took from me? Or what about what you took from your father?" Wind glared at Strato. "Watch yourself." Wind spoke in a low voice. "You wouldn't want to lose your other Wing, now would you?" "Don't think I don't know! Last year, I saw your dad heading to the graveyard. I followed him and asked him what he was doing there, and he said that your mother died while giving birth to you!" The air around Wind went frigid after Strato said those words. Wind stepped up to Strato, glaring intensely at him as his next words put darkness in the air around them, adding to the coldness. "You stop right there." Wind spat, his voice dripping with venom. "If you say what I think you're about to say, I will do much worse than what I have before." "In a public place? Hah! I know you won't do that. What would Celestia think of you?" "She'd hold me in higher regards than you, I know that for certain." "Whatever! At least I didn't kill my mother!" Strato retorted. At this point, Wind knew for certain that Strato was a full on idiot. "What was your mom's name? Shining Star? You killed her! You killed Star!" Wind glared now with enough force that if he knew how, the imbecile's head would be mush. "I'll show you what a killer can do." Wind stated simply. Before he could do anything, Strato pulled out a switchblade and lunged at Wind. Wind moved in the nick of time, but the knife sliced a sizable hole in Wind's robes. He cursed internally as he noticed the hole. "I just had these fixed!" He whined. Strato didn't answer, but instead he laughed hard. "Are you serious!?" Strato said as he laughed. "You're at least an adult, and you don't have your Cutie Mark yet!?" He mocked. "So, you're a killer, and worthless too! Oh, I'm gonna do the world a favo-YEEEAGH!" Strato screamed as a surge of energy passed through him. Wind stood on his hind legs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pe4wzUYzmTA), holding his front legs wide in front of him as several bolts of electricity shot from Wind's hooves. Strato yelled in agony as the lightning coursed through his body, while Wind yelled in pleasure as the darkness Celestia warned him about embraced him. He raised his hooves up, lifting Strato into the air as well. Several ponies waiting for their train screamed in fear as they looked on. Pushing through the crowd, Eclipse came up. Her jaw dropped as she saw the scene unfold before her. "What in the name of Celestia..." She said. "You challenged my power, now I will show you what I can do!" Wind yelled as he intensified the output of his electricity. "This is what I am capable of!" Strato screamed again in response. "Stop!" Eclipse yelled as she ran up to Wind. "You'll kill him!" She tackled Twisting Wind, knocking him to the ground and stopping his lightning. Strato fell to the ground limp. Wind pushed Eclipse off of him. He stood up and cast a spiteful gaze over the crowd. From the corner of his eye, Twisting Wind saw a flash of light. He turned his head, seeing that the light was coming from his flank. The light faded, and the mark was replaced with a neon-blue streak of lightning that arced in several directions. Wind stared in shock at his mark as he realized his actions. "What was that!?" Eclipse yelled at him. "He's not dead is he?" All eyes went to the crisp form that was once Strato. The charred look of his body was all they needed to see to know that the Pegasus was dead. "Wind, what did you do?" Twisting Wind looked deep into Eclipse's red eyes. Then he glanced nervously to the other ponies, who were fleeing the scene in terror, several of them screaming the words 'Murderer' and 'Killer'. "I...I don't know what happened, Juno..." Wind began. "He kept rubbing it in on how my mother was dead, and I lost it-" He was interrupted when Eclipse put a hoof on his mouth. "That doesn't matter!" She screamed. "My cousin is dead because of you, and...Wait...Did...Did you just call me Juno?" She took her hoof away from Wind's mouth. Then it returned. Twisting Wind's memories shot back into his mind like a bullet from a sniper. His memories flooded his mind. Wind and Eclipse clutched their heads as they collapsed from the overload. Their memories returned, each one finding their chronological place in their minds. Everything was clear to Wind now. He knew who he was now, and despite the intense pain in his head, he was happy to finally have clearance on who he was. The two lay on the ground for a moment. Wind stood up first, remembering everything from his past life. He looked down at Eclipse, who was just now standing up. The two shared a long look with each other. Both knew who they were now. "Is...Is that really you?" Eclipse asked. "Yes. It is." Wind responded. "It's me." The two pulled each other into a longing hug. They stayed there for a few minutes, then Wind pulled away. "Listen. Guards are sure to be here at any moment. We need to leave." Wind said as he pointed at the mountains. "We have another job to do here." "W-wait!" Eclipse called. "What do you mean 'Another Job'? You can't be saying what I think you're saying." "I am." Wind responded simply. "A darkness is coming, and we need to assemble an army to fight it. We need to reform the order." Eclipse stared a minute at him, trying to find right words. She sighed, then stepped up next to him. "Alright. What's the plan?" She asked. "We head for the mountains. They'll never find us there, and we'll have plenty of time to figure out what we're doing." "So you aren't completely sure what your plan is?" Wind passed a sly look to her. "No, but that hasn't stopped me before." He said as he began walking. "Come on, let's get going." Without another word, Eclipse nodded and followed along. The two were silent, they only focused on the road ahead of them. They had a long journey ahead of them, and Wind knew that this would not be an easy task for them. In the back of his mind, Wind could feel something troubling. He wasn't sure what, but it felt like...Sadness. On the other side of Equestria... Celestia stood on a balcony in the castle. She had felt something, a tremor, if you will. Something horrible had happened. She was not quite sure what, but it was definitely there. It was as if a voice cried out in terror, only to be silenced. She shuttered as she felt Twisting Wind's presence nearby where the tremor was. Celestia's eyes widened in horrifying realization as the thought occurred to her. "No..." She said to herself. Tears began to well in the princess's eyes. For the second time in her life, something dear to her has been taken by darkness. Despair welled within the Princess's heart. It began to seem as if everything she loved was turning on her. The door opened behind Celestia, but the monarch didn't notice this. Behind the door was Twilight, as well as her assistant, Spike. Twilight had also felt the tremor. She walked over to Celestia and sat solemnly next to her. "He's gone...Isn't he?" Twilight asked. "I'm afraid so, Twilight..." Celestia replied, her tone sombre. "I'm afraid so..." //-------------------------------------------------------// Epilogue //-------------------------------------------------------// Epilogue Hoofsteps echoed throughout the cave. A figure wearing heavy robes covered by lightweight metal armor walked down the stone hallway. On both sides of him were various furnishings, mostly workstations of various sorts with pieces of scrap strewn about. Ahead of him was the cave's exit. The pony stepped outside of the cave, looking out at Equestria. As his eyes fell upon the mountain city of Canterlot, a feeling of longing and regret found itself inside him. The pony turned around as he heard hoofsteps behind him. A white Unicorn mare wearing a military officer's uniform stepped up next to him. "Oh. Hey." He said, turning back towards the view. "It's beautiful, isn't it, Juno?" "Yeah." Juno replied. "And to think, we need to save it. It seems like a lot less compared to what we've done before." Juno Eclipse stepped further outside the high mountain cave. Her red eyes set on the sunset over the horizon. "Galen," Juno said, turning towards the other pony. "We don't have the resources we had when Lord Vader had us hunting Jedi. You know that this will be difficult, correct?" Galen nodded, then removed his hood, revealing a beige earth pony with a shaved black mane. His hazel eyes stared off into the horizon. "Juno, if we're going to stop Thanatos, we need to find others capable of using the Force. Even then, assuming there are other Jedi that ended up like me, we won't be able to effectively use weapons without exhausting our Force abilities." Galen stepped out too, stopping right next to Juno. "But right now, our biggest problem is ourselves. We can't show our faces in public after what I did...By the way, sorry about Strato..." "Don't worry. Remembering who I am made me like him even less." She said smugly. "Please don't pull a stunt like that again, though." "Don't worry. I won't." Galen responded with a laugh. The two walked back into the cave. Galen stopped and looked to the bits of scrap metal, but he quickly moved on. "Juno, I think I know how I can get back out there." Juno gave Galen an intrigued look. "Really? And what's that?" She asked. "The name Vader gave me. I'll use it as a guise while I'm outside of the cave." Galen moved away from the table and place a hoof on Juno's back. "These robes can help, too. But we'll have to wait a while before we can actually leave." "Wait, wait." Juno interrupted. "You're taking up the title of Starkiller again? Won't that seem suspicious? A pony with armored robes going by the name of Starkiller?" Juno rolled her eyes. "I'm sure that won't attract attention." "It's not a perfect plan, but it's a plan." Galen responded. "Now, it's getting late. We need to get some sleep." Juno nodded, then went deeper into the cave. "I'll be with you in a moment." Galen turned around, and walked back out to the cave's entrance. He stood in front of the cave (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxDm-4Jrg9w), overlooking Equestria once again. His eyes lowered as his mind went to Thanatos. An apparent Sith lord wishing to conquer Equestria. Galen sighed. He knew the task before him would be a long one. He reached out with the Force, many powerful Force-sensitives were out there. He found it odd, as some of them seemed familiar. Galen opened his eyes as he cut his concentration. He knew now that he wasn't the only dead Jedi in Equestria. Out of the many Force-presences he could sense, one stood out. This one was much more powerful than the others. Galen could not tell if it was light or dark, though. It was...gray. "That one's the strongest though..." Galen said to himself. "I guess we'll look for you first." With that, Galen went inside the cave gain, passing a final glance at Equestria before finally heading in. As he walked deeper into the cave, he saw Juno already asleep on a pile of straw. Galen smiled softly and laid next to her. He had a long way to go, but he could sense that he would succeed. But for now, it was time to sleep. The caves under Canterlot "The time has come." A deep, aristocratic voice said. "Very well, child. Come find me." The figure concentrated, boosting their presence in the force. He waited until he knew that his presence was detected. "Now, I wait again." The figure said. Then he sat down in the center of the cave. He knew that he'd be found. And when he was, he would test this new arrival.
