The Princess Consort Chapter 01: The Discovery

Twilight sat in front of the Mirror Pool, her brain going over everything she had read as she glanced at the surface with wonder. It had been several days since the incident with Pinkie Pie, and now she sought to replicate the process, but this time with better results.

She lifted up the book she had found on the mirror pool, a great tome that went in depth into the magic of the pool, and hopefully with the knowledge she would be able to create a better clone then what Pinkie had generated, and quickly set to work. She recited the words Pinkie had used, all the while letting her horn glow with magic as she lowered her hoof into the water, feeling another grab her and quickly pulling her out. But when she saw what the mare looked like she got confused, for the pony now standing before her looked nothing like her, save for the way she wore her hair.

“Who are you,” asked Twilight.

“My name is Twilight Andromeda, Princess Consort to her majesties Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, who the buck are you?”

Celestia sat at her throne looking tired, having sent away her court for the day due to felling a bit worn form all the affairs going on in the world. She knew why she was worn out, she didn’t have her old consort with her, the mare who had sworn her soul to both her and Luna and had accompanied them through the centuries, but now she was lost, at least till the one who held her was ready for the awakening.

So it was to her complete and utter surprise when Twilight Sparkle burst through the throne room doors, followed closely by the late Twilight Andromeda, who had been the last incarnation of her lover before her passing.

“Twilight, wha…what are you doing here?”

Twilight stopped in front of her throne, looking on the verge of screaming as she spoke. “I was down by the mirror pool, having found a book on the subject and deciding to try it out, but when I put my hoof into the pool, I pulled out this pony, who then used the name of my great grandmother and said she was your concert, so I want to know what the buck is going on here?”

Celestia was about to speak, but then the door opened yet again, and Luna came walking into the room. “I just felt a familiar presence, is she…” she then saw Andromeda, squealing with joy and tackling the mare, kissing her deep in front of everypony. She then broke the kiss, looking down at the mare below her and speaking. “You look so much different from what we expected love, at first we thought…”

“Luna,” said Celestia warily, drawing her sisters gaze as she spoke. “That is not our lover…well, not entirely. She…she is a copy, a memory from…well…”

She then turned her gaze toward Twilight, trying to look as innocent as possible despite the look on Twilight’s face. “I…I guess we have some things to talk about.”

Twilight just nodded, not wanting to speak as she cast a spell to make the other Twilight disappear, causing Luna to pout. Celestia then motioned for them both to follow, leading them through the halls to her room and inviting them both in, though Twilight remained wary as she went over to sit down in a near by chair.

“Um…Twilight, would you mind joining me on the bed?” asked Celestia as she sat down with her sister, making a place for her to sit between them.

“Um, I’m not sure I shou…”

“Please Twilight,” said Luna, “We promise to keep our hooves to ourselves, just please sit with us.”

Twilight hesitated, and then got up; sitting between the princesses and then turning to Celestia, waiting for her to speak.

“Well, where to begin, I guess this all started about three thousand years ago, when Luna and I were younger. It was before we had ascended to the throne, our mother felt it wasn’t time for us to help the ponies, knowing they still had some issues with each other that they needed to work out. During that time we simply explored the countryside, happy to be free of any responsibilities and simply enjoying life, and then…well…we met you.”

“Me,” said Twilight, looking confused.

“Well it was a earlier version of you,” said Luna, “but she shared you name. When we saw her, both my sister and I fell madly in love with her, and she us, when we revealed ourselves. It was the most perfect thing to happen to us, for she saw no need to love just one of us, and we felt comfortable in sharing the same mare, rather then force her to chose.”

She then nodded to Celestia, who nodded and continued for her. “but sadly our happiness was not to last, for like all mortals, she was bound by the strands of time, doomed to fade away as the years inevitably passed. We became distraught, even when our mother assured us that it would be alright, and then she came, and told us we would not need to fear, for she had found a way to stay with us…for all time.”

“You see normally when ponies die,” said Luna, “their souls travel to Elysium, to join with the others their in eternal happiness. But she…well that is to say you figured out away to cut yourself off from traveling to that realm, and instead made it so that your soul would be reincarnated in the body of another unicorn.”

“Unfortunately,” said Celestia, “the process locked away your memories when you were born in the new body, and so we devised a plan. After you passed, we would wait three years, then look for you. Once we found you, we would watch over you and wait till you were old enough, and then we would help you to remember who you were, and then we would join with you once again. And so for three thousand we have done this, watching over you as you time and time again returned to us, bringing us joy and laughter we had never though we would be able to keep.”

“Of course, there were bad times,” said Luna, looking crest fallen as she spoke. “for during one of your passing’s, I found myself regretting our decision, for the pain of having to constantly wait for you time and time again had started eating away at me, and sadly contributed to me becoming Nightmare Moon.”

“and when you returned,” said Celestia, “it was to find a broken princess who had lost something cherished to her, but you comforted me none the less, telling me everything was alright, and that we would see her again, some day. And so we soldiered on, you appearing now and again to provide me comfort while we waited, while I stayed ever vigilant as I waited for both of you to return to me…”

Twilight just sat there, her mind gone numb from all the information she had just received. She was thousands of years old, the apparent lover of the princesses of Equestria, and had cheated death at the repeated cost of losing her memories for a short period of time just to stay with them for all eternity. “This is crazy,” she said softly, her head falling into her hooves. “It’s like I’ve dived head first into one of Rarity’s Romance novels…with me as the main character, I…I don’t know what to do.”

Celestia placed a comforting wing onto her back along with Luna, resisting the urge to nuzzle her in comfort. “It will be entirely your decision Twilight, it has always been. If you wish to remember who you are, we will be more then happy to help you, but if you wish to remain as you are, then we will not force you.”

“I…I will need some time to think about it.”

“Take all the time you need my…Twilight, we can wait, we will always wait,” said Princess Luna.

Twilight nodded, then got up, “I better go, I’ll…I’ll see you latter, after I…figure all this out.”

She then left, leaving out the door and leaving Celestia and Luna alone, Luna waiting till she was out of earshot before breaking down in tears, clutching Celestia close. “Oh I hope she says yes, I can’t bear to wait another hundred years to be with her again.”

“I know Luna, I hope so to.”
