The Princess Consort Chapter 08: Gathering Foes, Part 02

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

After delivering the news to Thorax and Pharynx, Luna teleported from the throne room with the intent of meeting up with Empress Ember and finding out what her plans were in regards to Twilight.

So she found herself surprised when she did not find herself within the dragon lands at the end of her teleport, and instead found herself within Celestia’s private chambers, where Celestia and Cadance were seemingly waiting for her.

“Fuck,” thought Luna, before putting on a brave face and speaking. “Well Sister, you must have had a good reason for grabbing me mid teleport, for I wished to speak with Ember about some matters concerning her attending the celebration of our reuniting with our beloved.”

“That was my fault…father,” said Cadance, the are looking like the words did not quite sit well on her mouth. “Wow, that so feels weird to say out loud.”

“FUUUUUUUCK!!!” Luna thought again, barely managing to keep from shouting the word out loud as she tried her best to remain calm. “Ah, so I can assume Twilight told you?”

“She did,” said Cadance, “and as to what I said earlier, it is my fault why you are here, because I think your sister is trying to use you as a way to distract me from being angry with her.”

She then turned to Celestia, who had a sheepish look on her face as the alicorn of love glared at her. “I can understand you both not telling me initially, for I remember how tenuous the political situation was back then. I can even understand Luna, for she was gone for a thousand years, and it probably did not help that after she returned I only acknowledged her as my aunt, not as my…as my father.”

She then took a deep calming breath, before letting it out and continuing as she poked Celestia in the chest with a hoof. “But you had decades after mom died and losing your sister to come talk to me, to tell me who I really was to you. Instead you let me leave without telling me anything, you didn’t even tell me after you contacted me all those years later, when you asked me to take care of the the filly who I now know is my re-incarnated mother, and for the life of my I cannot understand why!”

After Cadance finished her rant, Celestia stood their for a long moment, and then she bolted for the door.

*

Faust stared at her love, the shining black star of her every night, for a mere moment, and then she bolted for the nearest exit, only to slam into it as the door closed.

Quickly getting up and looking around in a panic, she saw that each and every possible exit had been fused shut, and when she looked back to her mate she saw magic leaving her horn, and her glare had intensified.

“Oh no, I am not letting you get me so flustered that I fuck you instead of forcing you to talk, we are going to talk about this!”

“But it is always so much easier to talk to you afterwords,” said Faust as she kept looking for ways to escape, “cant we just take this to the bedroom and then talk?”

“No,” said Chrysalis, before grabbing a pillow and slamming it down on the floor, before sitting down on a pillow next to it and gesturing for Faust to sit beside her.

She hesitated for a moment, and then walked over and sat down, before sighing and looking to her mate as she spoke. “If I am honest, I never really planned on telling you.”

“Why not?” asked Chrysalis.

“Because I remember a young changeling queen telling me quite bluntly that she in no way what so ever wanted children, and said queen had to comfort me as I balled my eyes out as I came grips with that statement.”

Chrysalis looked at her a long moment, and then sighed, before getting a determining look on her face as she spoke. “Well, who the hell a I going to have to pummel over this?”

Faust looked confused, “What?”

“Those girls have been around a long time love, and I know all those years ago you and I were quite open with our relationship, so who was it?”

“Chrysalis…”

“Was it The Storm King?” asked Chrysalis, “The Pony of Shadows perhaps, Lord Tirek, his brother, am I getting warm, I could keep going, after all the list is quite long?”

“…Zacherle was right, I have a horrible taste in men.”

“You will not hear me disagree with you on that, though Scorpan wasn’t that bad. However darling, you are dodging the question.”

Faust took one last look around the room, and then sighed before speaking. “I remember when each of my daughters was conceived love, Celestia was conceived after you slew the Witches of Gloom Volcano, and Luna was conceived the night you rent Grogar’s heart from his chest with your horn.”

Chrysalis dawned a look of confusion after she was finished speaking, “So you left me those nights after I fell asleep, that still does not answer who I have to reprimand for impregnating my mate.”

This time Faust let out of a snort of frustration as she glared at the changeling queen, “That is what I am trying to tell you you idiot, I wasn’t with anyone else when I conceived my daughters, Celestia and Luna are yours!!!”

*

“Of all the things you had to pick up from mother,” said Luna as she glared at her sister as she rubbed her head due to hitting it on the now dented door, “you had to pick up that fucking bad habit.”

“I assume you are talking about Faust correct?” asked Cadance.

Luna nodded, “Yes, sadly mother was never really good with hard topics, I remember she disappeared for three weeks after I asked her how foals are made, and by the time she had returned Celestia had solved the problem for her.”

“…That explains so much in regards to Twilight,” said Cadance with wide eyes, before turning back to the white alicorn and resuming her glare. “But that is not what were here to talk about, were here to talk about why you never told me I was your and Luna’s daughter.”

“…Because I was afraid you would blame me for your mothers death,” Celestia finally said, though she had looked away when she had said it.

“…what?”

Snorting, Celestia continued speaking. “I was there when your mother was killed, and I didn’t see it coming till she had already driven the dagger through her heart. I already blamed myself for what happened, and I was afraid that if I revealed who I am Luna really were to you, that you would blame me to…and by the time I realized you would not, I feared that you would not be able to accept the truth, and so I decided to wait…till the right time presented itself.”

Sighing, she shook her head and then chuckled, “In hindsight I guess that was pretty stupid of my wasn’t it?”

“It was,” said Cadance, before she walked up and gave her a hug, much to Celestia’s surprise. “I’m still mad, but I think I can forgive you in time.”

Celestia hugged her back, before pulling back and looking between her and Luna and then speaking. “I think I should leave you two alone for now, but when you are ready to talk, you know where to find me.”

Cadance nodded, then watched as Celestia teleported out of the room, before looking to Luna and speaking. “So dad, what do you want to do today?”

Luna smiled at that, marveling at how it would take some getting used to being called that by her daughter, but then her smile vanished as she remembered what Chrysalis told her earlier, causing her to sigh. “As much as I would love to spend a fun day with you my daughter, I am afraid there is a pressing matter that has come to my attention, one which sadly concerns you.”

“What do you mean?”

Luna took a deep breath, and then teleported them both to an old secluded work shop she knew even Celestia did not know about, one which she had used to forge the armor she had worn when she became Nightmare Moon, and her eyes began to glow white as she spoke. “Cadance…we need to talk about your mother.”

*

Chrysalis took one look at Faust after her outburst, and then punched her in the face, sending her flying across the room.

After she picked herself up, Faust glared back at her mate as she spoke. “What in Tartarus was that for?”

“You should have told me sooner you insufferable twit!” yelled Chrysalis as she stood up and glared at her mate. “If you had, I would have never invaded my daughters kingdom, nor would I have imprisoned my granddaughter and brainwashed her husband to be!”

“What?” asked Faust.

Chrysalis gave her a look, and then sighed in exasperation. “Wow, you really are out of the loop aren’t you?”

When Faust nodded, Chrysalis sighed again, “Well sit back down, this is going to take a while.”

She then teleported in a bottle of liquor, and then went into the long explanation of everything Faust had apparently missed over the last few thousand years.

When she was done talking, Chrysalis watched as her love stared at her a moment, and then reached forward, grabbed the large bottle she had brought, and then downed it in one go, before tossing it aside and looking back at Chrysalis and speaking. “I should be angry that you attacked our children…but as I am to blame, I cannot hold you at fault.”

Nodding, Chrysalis summoned another bottle and took a swig, for she would need courage for this next part. “Sadly there is more, for it regards your daughters…and the current mare they have affections for.”

“What could be worse then what you told me?”

“…Tell me love, did you ever meet their soul mate?”

Faust snorted in contempt, “I did yes, I never really liked her, for I thought she was playing with forces that despite her talent for them, were beyond her power to control.”

“Well I guess we can say your daughters have as bad a taste in mates as you do, for their soul mate is a Soul-Thief.”

Faust’s eyes widened at that, “she’s a what?”

“A Soul-Thief,” said Chrysalis, “and she is one of the purest soul-thieves I have ever encountered, for while yes she did botch the spell like so many other before her, she has not warped herself like all those that have come before her.”

Faust simply sat that, staring at her love for a long moment, and then she got up and started walking towards the door which lead to her balcony.

“Love,” said Chrysalis, “are you…”

She ducked as Faust ripped the doors off their hinges and sent them flying, the force of her telekinetic throw embedding them in the walls they struck, which alarmed Chrysalis to no end, though it did not stop her from deciding to follow her outside.

She made it outside just as Faust took a deep breath, and then the alicorn let loose with a royal roar which shook the ground she stood on, though the changelings perceptive eyes saw that the sound did not reach far as it rippled across some unseen force.

When it was over, Faust was left panting with tears in her eyes, the mare simply looking out past the balcony as she spoke. “…As I told you, I never really approved of our daughters souls mate, but I could never deny them what they wanted. Around the time she turned fifty, out daughters came to me, and asked if I could find a way to turn her into an alicorn.”

“…And I am assuming by your anger you said yes?”

Faust nodded, and then she continued. “It took me a few months, but I found a potential method, but it was one that would take many life times, for as you know Zacherle and I lost the knowledge long ago on how to take more of our kind. Still, it was a solution, and as I said I could not deny my daughters anything.”

Walking back into her sitting room, the mare simply collapsed on the floor, waiting till her mate joined her before continuing with her tale. “Of course I went straight to her house, and told her of my findings, and of course I reassured her that I would make sure she would be able to regain all her memories…and do you know how she decided to thank me?”

When Chrysalis gestured for her to continued, she took a deep breath before speaking further. “She told me that she could not understand how someone so cruel could have given birth to such wonderful mares, for only a monster would ask that she bring such pain to her loves, possible for several life times.”

“Know you back then, I guess you did not take it well?” asked Chrysalis.

“No I did not,” said Faust, “and it lead to me moving out here, for I did not want to be anywhere near her after she…after she insulted me so.”

Chrysalis let the silence remain for a long moment, and then she broke it as she spoke. “Well love, while I cant fault your reaction, I am going to need you to be at least semi stable if shit goes south.”

“What do you mean?”

“Both our daughters know about her true nature,” said Chrysalis, “but Celestia has come to accept it, while Luna has chosen to take a stand against her. Due to her connection to the dream realm, Luna was able to find the other souls and formulate a plan, one that may be able to restore things to as they were…but there is a chance that this plan may go south, and if it does I may call on you…and I need to know you will answer that call.”

“You ask much of me love, for I have not interfered in the lives of my little ponies for a long while.”

“I know,” said Chrysalis, “but you may be the only one who can fix this if things do not go our way…so what say you?”

*

When Cadance came back to awareness, she found herself with a strange looking place, which reminded her of a realm Celestia had taken her long ago, one which she said contained the memory of their entire world.

She also became aware that she and Luna were not alone, for scattered around the area were many different ponies, the majority of which she recognized from Equestria’s history.

“Cadance?” said a voice behind her, causing her to turn and look at who had spoken, and she stopped in shock as she saw Twilight standing behind her, looking at her in shock.

“Wha…”

“Cadance,” said Luna as she moved in front of her, blocking Twilight from view. “I promise to explain to you who she is and why she is here, but first I need to ask you a question, do you know what a soul thief is.”

Cadance hesitated, and then nodded before speaking herself. “They are soul magic practitioners who cut themselves off from the cycle of life and death by stealing the bodies of other ponies.”

Luna nodded when she was done, “I know this will be hard to hear, but your mother, the being currently residing in the body of Twilight Sparkle, is a soul thief, and these ponies here are her victims.”

“…no…no you cant mean…”

“WHAT IS THAT THINGS SPAWN DOING HERE!!!”

Cadance’s eyes widened to the size of dinner plates, for she would recognize that voice anywhere.

Quickly turning around, she saw a mare walking up to them, one whose face she recognized from her child hood, and it nearly broke her. “M…mom?”

Umbranox snorted, “I am not your mother, for she stole my body, and through that action drove my father to madness. You may not want to accept it, but your mother stole our lives, and unless you can accept that you should leave and forget about this place.”

Umbranox then turned and left, leaving Cadance shell shocked, before she jumped as she felt a hoof touch her side, revealing itself to be Luna as the mare moved into her vision.

“Come love, we should leave this place for now…for we still have much to discuss.”

Then both she and Cadance vanished from the realm, leaving the lost souls to return to their work, though Twilight could not help but glance back at where the two alicorns had vanished and voice her thoughts aloud.

“I’m sorry Cady, I just hope you can come to accept this…for all our sakes.”
