You Should Learn From History
I sat outside of my brothers school, waiting for his bell to ring at any time. His school got out earlier than mine, much to his dismay.
The bell finally range, and it seemed like a race between everyone, ponies of all colors, scrambling for the door in excitement. It was Friday after all, and I wanted to get home quickly too.
Shockwave finally emerged from the crowd and trotted up to me.
"Hey little pipsqueak." I said, "How was your day?".
"Fine," He replied, "We spent the whole day talking about the foundation of Equestria and it was extremely boring."
Shockwave was like that, a sporty little colt. He never really cared much about history, or, any other kind of learning for that manner. He was fantastic at casting spells, which was strange, he was younger than me and he knew how to use magic better than I did.
"Come on man," I said to him, "History is a good thing, you should learn from it.".
He said nothing, he just rolled his eyes and continued to walk.
We finally made it home, a bit later than I expected too, we all split off into our rooms and went about our business.
I sat in my room a lot. Plugged into whatever technology I could find. Usually my computer, playing games and talking to school friends. I never did get tired of it. Besides, I had no business outside anyway.
I was halfway through a game of Pony-Strike when I remember that I needed to ask my brother about that money he borrowed from me a few days ago.
I got up and walked into his room.
"Shockwave?"
He didn't seem to be there. Strange, I would have seen him leave.
"Dude, where are you?"
I heard a shuffle under his bed. I bent down and sure enough, he was hiding there, a scroll in his hand.
"Get out from under there." I said.
He crawled up nervously and put the scroll behind his back quickly.
"What do you have there?" I asked.
"Nothing." he said with an obvious fake smile.
I tackled him and we wrestled for a bit, all while trying to grab the scroll, I finally was able to grab it and read it.
"Scroll of time travel?" I read aloud, "Where did you find this?"
"I uhh, bought it." he replied.
"From who?"
"I don't know, he told me that he knows how good I am with magic and just handed me the scroll, I insisted on paying him and he took it and ran." Shockwave replied.
"Did you see what he looked like?" I asked.
"No, he stayed in the shadows and was wearing some kind of hooded jacket."
"You can't just take stuff from strangers dude, Didn't mom teach you that?" I said angrily.
I paced around, wondering what to do with this spell, a spell that could doom a timeline as we know it.
"I want to use it." Shockwave said.
"What?"
"I want to use it." he said again, "We could go into the future, not the past, then we cant screw anything up.".
While he made a great point, I was still against the idea, time should not be messed with, but I kind of wanted to see what Equestria would look like in the future. Giant cities, spaceships and speeders, advanced robotics, It sounded like a sight to see.
"Fine, we could go into the future, but we have to come right back." I said hesitantly.
My brother smiled, "How far should we go?" he asked.
"213 years." I replied.
"Why 213?" he asked.
"Don't know," I replied, "It just popped into my head.".
"Alright then," he said, "Lets do it.".
His horn began to glow with a bright light and a white sphere engulfed both of us, blocking out our vision.
To this day I still don't know what went wrong.
My vision returned. I was dazed and wobbly. I had trouble standing up.
I looked out into my surroundings, expecting to see huge cities and ships flying everywhere, but I was greeted with nothing but grassy hills. I looked around and found my brother, confused and shaky.
"Where's Ponyville?" I asked.
"I don't know." he replied.
I looked up at the mountain where Canterlot should be, but nothing was there.
My brother walked up beside me, "I don't think we went into the future." he said as his face darkened.
"You've got to be kidding me!" I screamed, "This is exactly why I said not to take the spell in the first place!"
"I'm sorry dude." he said.
"How do we get back?" I asked.
"Oh that's easy!" he said, "You just, ummm..."
He looked at me and smiled nervously, "Yeah, we've got a serious problem.".
I was furious, "You took us 213 years through time in the wrong direction!" I yelled, "Now we're stuck here!".
He jumped in pain, "What the heck?" he said.
I looked at him, trying to find out what happened, then I noticed the dart in his flank.
"Dude! I said, someone is trying to sedate yo-" I was interrupted by another dart that pierced my side.
Shockwave had already fallen over, unconscious. I tried to fight the sedative but it was too strong.
I fell and blacked out.
I could feel heat on my back, burning heat. I opened my eyes, and saw a flame right in front of me.
"Hey," I said, "Who are you people? Let us down!"
"We will not cut you down you sick settlers." I heard a voice say.
"Look man, I don't know who you think we are, but we're not settlers! Cut us down!".
"Brother, I think he is telling the truth." I heard another voice say, "I have never seen a settler of those colors."
"You mean they aren't settlers?" another voice said.
"I don't think they are." one of the voices replied, "Cut them down.".
I felt them untie the ropes attached to my hooves, the quickly caught me before I fell into the fire.
"Explain yourselves." a small bison said.
"Listen, we're not from here, my brother messed up a magical spell and sent us 213 years into the past, we mean no harm." I said quickly.
"Is he loopy from the sedatives?" one bison asked.
"Who are you all anyway?" I asked.
"The rightful owners of this land that's what." one answered, "And the settlers are trying to take it from us."
"Who are these settlers you speak of?" I asked.
"They come from another land far away from here, they come in many types, some can fly, some can use magic, and some are extremely strong." the bison said.
"Oh, so, what have they done that's so bad?" I asked.
"They try to push us off of our land so that they can build their monuments to their princess, and build towns and cities. THey plan to turn this place into a country." one of them replied.
"Before we release you two, can you tell me what the future is like?" one of them asked.
"Sure, sit down though," I said, "This will be a lot to take in.".
