Chapter one: The Dark Ring
Princess Celestia stared dreamily out the window, admiring the land she had taken over 1000 years to perfect.
And yet, she felt like something was missing...
At this time, her student, Twilight Sparkle, was with her, studying by her side. She asked, "What's wrong Princess? You seem troubled lately..."
The Princess gave a chuckle. "It's nothing My Faithful Student." Twilight knew better than this. "Princess, you always have that look on your face whenever something eventful happens, tell me, what's wrong?" Celestia sighed, knowing that she could never keep anything from Twilight. "Follow me." She instructed to twilight. As they walked onto her balcony, Celestia pointed skyward. "That..." She said. "...is the Dark Ring." Twilight looked where her teacher pointed, she saw what she was referring to. A large ring of dark purple smoke hung high in the sky. it seemed as if it were pulsing and rotating. She asked, "What is it exactly?" Celestia replied to her: "It has been there for 2 days now, my pegasi guard couldn't get close enough to it to accurately identify what it was, but what worries me the most, is that it is hanging directly over Ponyville, I am unsure of your safety even now..."
The Next day, Celestia was convinced enough to let Twilight go back home, though she told her student to kee her eye out, in case the Ring really was dangerous. When she got there, Twilight saw many of the residents staring up into the sky at the ring. Everyone was asking if anyone new what it was, no one had the answer. All of a sudden, a young filly, probably only 3 years old, pointed up and shouted, "Look!" When Twilight looked into the sky, she saw that the Dark Ring had a dark trail, flowing slowly to the ground. By the size of the ring, she estimated that the trail was about 500,000 miles from the town, and that it would take aroung 3-5 months to hit the planet. Boy, was she wrong.
3:24 AM: An explosion rocked all of equestria, which caused twilight to fall out of her bed. Quickly rushing outside, she looked toward the source of the noise: A large crater in a nearby field, with a shadowy figure sprinting away from the scene towards the Everfree forest. By this point, many ponies had already started coming from their homes, hoping to get a look at the scene. a few minutes later, Twilight was at the crater in the ground. She approached the center, hoping to get a glimpse at the glowing, hovering object. She slowly brought her hoof towards it, the second it touched, twilight was thrown 50 feet away. She was stunned, but not hurt, about 10 ponies rushed to her, asking her if she was okay, if she needed help. She was fine, she also saw what the object was:
A Sword.
Meanwhile at Fluttershy's cottage, Fluttershy was sitting on the couch, reading a book, (She had started it earlier that evening, but was so interested, she stayed up to read.) when she heard a knock at the door. Not one to be impolite, she happily walked over to the door, calling, "Who is it?" As she opened the door, she didn't see a pony, but a huge bipedal creature, with a large pair of black feathered wings. Fluttershy stared at the creature for a good 10 seconds, then released a scream. Not just any scream, this was louder than the earlier explosion.
