What are colors? Colors are things that give vibrance and joy to the world. They add variety and give life to everything. They create beauty and scenery only available with their assistance. But now, no one sees colors. They see Black and White, a bleak land filled with fauna. Even my closest friends are colorless, they have given up hope like most ponies today. The aftermath of the Dragon war was devastating. Most ponies I know in this town have lost everything, they just sit on their asses all day. They have given up hope, to them they live in a barren wasteland where nothing matters anymore. I was about to join them, in a colorless world. One thing stopped me though, I asked myself, ' Why are you here? Why do you make a difference?'.
I didn't know the answer at first, my mane was deflated and nothing mattered. Then I thought of it, why am I here? So I can spread the laughter, why do I make a difference? Because no one spreads laughter and joy like I do. I can show the world that not everything is in black and white. That the sky is blue, that the sun glimmers in a sea of yellow and orange. That I am pink, that the grass is green or the sea is blue. I want to show them that there is something to live for. That if we have hope, we can prevail. I want to show the world that there is still color, that there is still life. I walk over to my door in Sugarcube corner, for once in this time, with a spring in my step. I have a happiness I want to share with this town. I want to restore color to it, with every step I take the color is restored.
The wooden floor has it's sky blue back, the walls are now yellow, and my door is brown. My mane inflates to it's bubbly form. My pink hue returns, brighter than ever. My cerulean eyes are filled and a great big smile places itself on my face. I take more steps, returning more and more color. I walk down the steps into the lobby restoring the vibrance to it all. The tables are pink again, the cupcakes have their vanilla and chocolate coloring! Mrs. Cake gives me an awkward look, probably wondering what in the name of Celestia was I doing. I smile warmly at her, for I have hope. Hope that one day the world will be it's normal self again. That when I gaze at the sunset I will see the purple and orange hues of the sunset. That when I look up I can see the night, filled with dots of all colors.
I walk up to Mrs. Cake and she doesn't smile nor give any other emotion. I walk up and tell her 3 words that change it all.
"I have hope." Mrs. Cake sighs, and I'll bet she thinks I'm insane. Well I'm not, I reach around and grab a cupcake and tell her to eat it.
"Pinkie, please. I have work to-" I cut her off forcing the cupcake in her mouth. She chews the pastry and swallows. She changes into the old Mrs.Cake that I know. She takes on her vibrant blue hue, and her mane is rejuvenated into the pinkness it has. She regains her smile and she gives me a silent thank you.
I move outside to see the bleak land of the village I reside in. The residents are just shuffling around like zombies. This won't do at all. I move around spreading more and more color with each step. The dirt is it's usual brown, and the grass is being returned to it's green hue. I walk by the ponies saying hello and trying to liven up their day. I walk around, but am not progressing to help them see the colors I want them to see. The sun is out and about, and for the first time since the war, it spreads it's warm orange glow across the whole town, lighting it up! I close my eyes, thinking about how great it feels to finally see things with no pony bringing me down. Trying to convince me that it's only Black and White. I'm going to make a change, I'm going to help.
I turn around from my spot in the street, and I keep moving, keep spreading. More and more colors appear, houses are violet, orchids have their purple back. I pick one of them up and give it to a pony on the street. I see them smile at how beautiful it is and they return into their color. I smile warmly, I'm not stopping, I'm not going to give up, I'm not going to lose my color. I am not color blind. I look around again, there is still some scenes that need to be decorated. They need to be lifted from their depressive sorrow. From the bleak world that they call home, to the land where they can have personality. That is what colors do, they give personality to everything and everyone.
My walk takes me to a hillside, a lone tree as my company. I look up to see the red apples absorb the sun's light to restore their redness to full health. I smile as big as my body would let me. I smiled so hard that it hurt, I was too happy to care about the pain. I watch the sun and marvel in it's glory. The rays come down and it's like I see the colors spreading from the rays, engulfing everything in sight. The leaves change color again, the sky is blue, the clouds are white. My hooves are pink, the apples are red, and the flowers have personality. I look back towards my home, the ponies are still shuffling around not doing much. I know what they see. They see black and white, and are ok with it.
Not me though, because the thing is, with black and white there is no difference, personality, or emotion. When you add colors though, there is life, vibrance, beauty, love, joy, excitement, and personality! How they live like that I will never know, but I do know this.
My name is Pinkie Pie.
Where they see Black and White, I see a rainbow.
