What Really Happened (The real ending)
Load Full StoryI know this story isn't what was in the description. That's because I wrote the first version for people who can't stand breakups. Here's what really happened.
..................
Pinkie Pie bounced happily along the streets of Ponyville, thinking of her plans for today. First, Rarity needed help over at Carousel Boutique, then her and Rainbow Dash were going out for ice cream. Yes indeed, today was going to be a wonderful day.
"Hiya, Lyra!" Pinkie waved at the green Unicorn, who happily waved back. "La la la la la, la la la la la. La la la la…" Pinkie sang to herself. Pinkie stopped when she saw Carrot Top's pastry cart. It was filled with delicious Carrot Crêpes, Carrot Muffins, and Carrot Cake, Pinkie's favorite! Pinkie bounced over to the cart.
"Hi, Pinkie. I've got all kinds of delicious Carrot desserts!" Said Carrot top, motioning to the foods in front of her.
"You do, you really do…" Replied Pinkie, licking her lips.
"Everything's for sale." Pinkie scanned the food, trying to select only the finest slice of Carrot Cake.
"I'll take that slice of Carrot Cake, please!" Chimed Pinkie, pointing to a particularly good-looking slice of cake. "How much?" Asked Pinkie, rummaging through her saddlebag.
"It's alright, Pinkie. I'll give you this one for free because of your help with those Rabbits yesterday." Said Carrot Top, handing Pinkie her cake.
"Thanks! This looks delicious!" Pinkie took the cake slice, and devoured it in one bite. "And it was!" Pinkie hopped away, waving back at the Carrot farmer. She continued on her way to Carousel Boutique. When she got there, Rarity was standing outside, looking absolutely steamed.
"It's about time!" Scolded Rarity.
"Sorry I'm late, Rarity. I just got distracted while I was walking through the market because Carrot Top-" Rarity put a hoof over Pinkie's mouth to silence her.
"It's alright, Pinkie. You're here, and I need your help." Rarity led Pinkie inside the Boutique.
"Why is it so hot in here?" Asked Pinkie, fanning herself with a hoof.
"Because it's the middle of Summer and the air conditioning is broken." Replied Rarity. Rarity tossed her elegantly curled mane, then gestured to the air conditioner.
.................
Pinkie unscrewed the nails in the metal grate, then clicked on a flashlight.
"Got any Sapphires, Rarity? This one's burnt out." Pinkie stated, reaching in to remove it. Rarity rushed off without a word, then came back, a pale blue Sapphire in her magical grasp. Pinkie grabbed the new Sapphire, then handed the old one to Rarity. Pinkie fit the new Sapphire in place, then reconnected the wires. She screwed the grate back on, and the fan whirred to life.
"Oh thank you, Pinkie Pie. I would have started sweating without your help!" Rarity patted Pinkie on the head, then sat down on her couch and opened up a fashion magazine.
"Anytime, Rarity!" Pinkie then bounced out the door, gently closing it behind her. Dust and pebbles trailed the pink pony as she bounced.
"Pinkie Pie!!" Applebloom galloped up to Pinkie, then twirled.
"Hiya Applebloom!" Pinkie chirped.
"Notice anything different about me?" Asked Applebloom, twirling again.
"Ooh, ooh! Guessing games! Did you get a new mane cut? Ooh, I know, I know! You got a new bow!" Applebloom rolled her eyes.
"AH' GOT MAH' CUTIE MARK!!" Applebloom jumped with joy, a huge grin on her face.
"Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh!! You did!" Pinkie Pie bounced with Applebloom before taking a look at her flank. On it was a picture of a half of an apple and a half of a gear. "How'd you get it?"
"Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle said the Clubhouse wall was broken, and the bulb of the idea lantern was out. So ah' went over there and fixed em' up, and then it appeared while ah' was standin' on the idea spot! Isn't that great!?"
"It sure is! Do you know where Rainbow Dash is? We're going out for ice cream, so I need to find her." Said Pinkie.
"Rainbow Dash? She's helpin' Applejack up at Sweet Apple Acres. Ah' was just about to go home, anyway. Mind if ah' walk with you?"
"Of course you can walk with me, Applebloom! In fact, I'll race you there! Last one to Sweet Apple Acres is a bad apple!" With that, Pinkie and Applebloom tore off down the street.
.................
"You're a bad apple, Pinkie Pie! Ah' won!" Applebloom cheered.
"I still can't believe…a filly…beat me!" Pinkie panted. They continued to walk, a forest off Apple trees on either side of the beaten path. A large red barn came into view, along with the rest of Sweet Apple Acres. "Time to find Dashie! RAINBOW DASH!!" Pinkie called.
"Ah'll try Applejack. APPLEJACK!!" No response came from either mare.
"Are you sure they're here, Applebloom?"
"Ah' saw both of em' here before ah' left, ah' swear! They may be in th' house." Applebloom suggested, shrugging. Pinkie and Applebloom opened the farmhouse door, then entered to find Granny Smith asleep in a chair. A loud thump came from upstairs. Pinkie and Applebloom exchanged looks, then tiptoed up the stairs. The door to Applejack's bedroom was opened a hair.
"You think they might be in there, Applebloom?" Whispered Pinkie.
"Only one way to find out." Replied Applebloom. Pinkie walked up to the door, then pushed it open.
"Oh, Dashi-" Pinkie Pie nearly fainted, and Applebloom just stared, eyes wide. In the room were Applejack and Rainbow Dash, lips locked in a kiss.
"A-Applejack? What're y'all doin' with Rainbow Dash?" Applebloom asked, her head cocked slightly.
"Dashie? How could you!?" Pinkie stared, her blue eyes filled with horror, disgust, and sadness. Rainbow Dash opened her eyes and quickly broke the kiss.
"Um- Pinkie, this isn't what it looks like! I was just-" Rainbow was cut off.
"Cheating on me!! How can you say this isn't what it looks like when I catch you red-hoofed!! I thought you loved me!!" Pinkie yelled, her voice filled with pain. Tears ebbed at the edges of her eyes. "My mistake." Pinkie hissed. She then turned around and
galloped out as fast as she could, the front door slamming behind her.
"Applebloom, go to yer' room. NOW!!" Applejack commanded.
"No, ah' ain't goin' to mah' room! Ah'm gonna go comfort Pinkie." Applebloom stormed out after Pinkie.
................
Applebloom chased Pinkie back to Sugarcube Corner. The filly gently knocked on Pinkie's bedroom door.
"GO AWAY!!" Pinkie yelled. There was the sound of glass breaking, then Applebloom left. Appebloom walked the streets of Ponyville, kicking a rock along the way. Applebloom instinctively walked to Zecora's hut, hoping she had the cure for a broken heart. Applebloom knocked on the door. Zecora opened it, then motioned for the filly to come in.
"Greetings, little Applebloom. You're here for something, I assume." Zecora said, in her usual rhyming whim.
"Hi, Zecora. I was wonderin' if you had a cure."
"What is it, my child? Is it severe, or something mild?" Asked Zecora, rifling through her many bottles of potions.
"It's for a broken heart." Replied Applebloom. Zecora turned to the filly, a gentle smile on her face.
"I cannot mend a broken heart. The only one who can is the one who broke it at the start." Zecora stroked Applebloom's red mane.
"That means ah' gotta get Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie to become friends again! Thanks, Zecora!" AppleBloom called as she ran out.
"Farewell, Applebloom. I hope to see you soon."
.................
"Rainbow Dash! Rainbow Dash!!" Applebloom burst into Applejack's bedroom, where Rainbow Dash sat crying in Applejack's arms. Dash turned her head to Applebloom.
"Hey, Applebloom. What's going on?" Dash wipes her tears and pretended to be the tough pony she was.
"Ah' can help ya' become friends with Pinkie again, but ya' need t' come with me!" Dash hopped off the bed and followed Applebloom, Applejack trailing behind.
"How can I make up with Pinkie?" Asked Dash.
"Don't worry, ah've got a plan! Pinkie said you two were goin' out for ice cream. She never got to doin' that."
"What does that have do do with anything?"
"Just follow mah' lead!"
.................
Pinkie opened the front door of Sugarcube Corner, the fur under her eyes matted from tears.
"Who's here to see me, Applebl- oh. It's her." Pinkie said glumly. "What do you want? You've already broken my heart and torn my soul in half! You've broken everything! So get outta my face, or I'll break you too!!" Pinkie snarled, her voice cold.
"Um, we never got to go out for ice cream, so I got some for us." Dash held out an ice cream cone, a small smile firming in her face. Pinkie walked up to Dash, then slapped the ice cream out of her hoof.
"I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR FUCKING ICE CREAM!!" Screeched Pinkie.
"But I care about you!" Dash pleaded.
"You shoulda thought about that before you made out with Applejack!!"
"Applejack is nothing compared to you, Pinkie! I love you, and you know that!"
"Do you? I didn't notice."
"Pinkie, Please! Dash cares about ya', can't ya' see? She's over there crying about you, and she never cries about anythang! Doesn't that say anythang to you?" Asked Applebloom. Pinkie looked over at Rainbow Dash, and tears were streaking down her face like rain.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, sorry, sorry, I'm sorry! Please don't leave me, I'm nothing without you! Pinkie, please!" Dash begged, kneeling.
"If you love me so much, then why did you do that to me? Answer me that, and I might forgive you."
"Because I'm stupid, that's why! I wasn't thinking! Applejack went up and kissed me, and I just couldn't resist!"
"Is that so? Did Applejack really just come up and kiss you?" Pinkie seemed to be genuinely curious.
"Yes, she did! I Pinkie Promise that that's the whole truth!!" Pinkie just scowled.
"Yeah, right. Applejack just waltzed up to you and kissed you, when you had Applejack pinned to the wall, not the other way around!!" Dash hung her head. It was hopeless.
"It doesn't have to be this way, Pinkie!"
"Oh really? What am I supposed to do. Just pretend it didn't happen and act like it's all ok? Well, news flash, Dashie! IT'S NOT OK!!" Pinkie screamed. Dash looked Pinkie in the eye, seeing for the first time all the sadness and anger, all the feeling.
"Well you know what? I love Applejack, and I love you! Ponies make mistakes, ok? Why can't you see this was just a mistake?" Dash wheezed, tears still running down her face. Pinkie's expression of rage softened, as did her voice.
"Dash, it's not a mistake. I've seen the way you smile at her when you work together, and especially at the Running of the Leaves. You've only smiled at me like that twice. Mostly you just get annoyed with me. That's not love. Go be with Applejack. Leave me to die on the inside, again." Pinkie also began to cry. There was a long silence before Dash rose, then wiped her tears.
"I guess this was just never meant to be." Dash took off.
"Yeah." Pinkie dragged her hooves along like weights as she walked back to Sugarcube Corner. Despite all their differences, and their breakup, they both agreed on one thing.
It was never meant to be.
