Midnight's Background

   "Hello!" I yelled to no one in particular.I heard my yell echo back and I sighed, 'No friends,' I thought.

   "Hello?" Yelled back from no where. I jumped up and looked around and saw a gray pony, he was tall and had no horn or wings. 'A earth pony?' I thought. 'Out here? That isn't right.'

   "Are you lost?" I called to the pony. He walked towards me and sat down. His eyes began to glow and he moaned, "Midnight, tell me your story."

   I narrowed my eyes, "What?" I looked at him and poked him.

   "Midnight, tell me your story."

    I sat down and began,

"I don't remember much but this is how it goes...

   I shook my head and a sharp pain coursed through my legs. I groaned and saw stone on them. I yelled for someone, something. I only heard silence.

   "Hello?"

   I looked around and I saw a Alicorn.

   I cried out in relief and the Alicorn ran towards me. "Are you ok?" The Alicorn looked down at me.

   I grunted and pawed at the rocks on my legs. I try to levitate them but my magic was to weak. The alicorn snorted and lifted the rocks off my legs. I tried to stand up just to collapse. The alicorn picked me up and put me on his back. He walked out of the ruins of my old home.

   "What is your name?"

    I looked up, the pony was looking at me. "Um." I closed my eyes and thought, "I can't remember."

   The pony grunted, "Well, I'm Silver Blade, nice to meet you."

    I smiled and lied my head on the older alicorn. I yawned and closed my eyes, welcoming the darkness. I woke up by the remains of a fire. I was beside the sleeping body of Silver Blade. His body rising and falling in a steady rhythm. I slowly arose and walked to the fire. I concentrated and lit the fire again. I walked torwards a little puddle and looked down, I saw a dark blue pony with dull green eyes looking back. She also had a big gash across her forehead. I sighed and lapped at the water. It tasted bitter but I was tired. I looked around and saw a bush with purple berries.

   I went over to the bush and picked 3 berries. I was about to put them in my mouth and Sliver Blade smacked them off my hoof.

   "Do you know what those are? They're death berries!"

   I winced at the name. "I'm sorry," I muttered.

   Silver Blade pushed me back close to the fire, "Its ok, I just don't want you hurt." He lied down again and patted the ground beside him. I lied down beside him and closed my eyes.

~~~~~~ 1 YEAR LATER!~~~~~~~~~~~~~

   "SILVER BLADE!! Watch this!" I whirled my katana at crazy speed, slicing the sticks in front of me. Silver blade took out his sword and stopped mine. "Hey! Silver, don't do that." I looked at him, annoyed.

    He smirked, "Well, what are you going to do about it?" He put his sword back into the sheath. I growled at him and stomped off to check our apple tree. The apples were almost done and the bean stalks beside it were grown. 'Yes!' I thought. I picked some beans, put them in my leaf knapsack and smelled the ground were the onions were. No smell, so I checked the carrots and saw 3 were done. I picked those and went back to mine and Silver's hut.

   "Silver, some beans and carrots were ready." I dropped my knapsack on a slab of wood we used as a table. I turned around and saw Silver with deathberries. I froze, "Uh, Silver..."

   Silver turned around, "Yeah?"

   "Why do you have deathberries?"

  Silver chuckled and put the deathberries in a bin I had made. "We've been losing food from some pesky rabbits, so I'm gonna keep them away."

  I sighed in relief and put the beans and carrots in a makeshift sink. I washed them and chopped them with my katana. I walked out and saw a pepper stalk. I smiled evilly and picked some. I hid them in my box. I lit the fire to a cauldron and put some water in it. I put the carrots and beans in. I took the mixing stick and mixed the so called soup slowly. While the soup bubbled and boiled, I went to get the last bit of garlic in our baskets. I crushed them with my hoof and put it in the cauldron. The soup cooked and I put it in a shell. I got the pepper, crushed it, and sprinkled it in the soup. I gave the bowl/shell to Silver. He took a huge slurp of it.

   His face contorted as he swallowed it down. I broke out into a huge smile. He ran out towards the stream and stuck his face into it.

   He was going to yell something, but then stopped. "Filly, you never told me your name."

   "Your right," I told him, "Call me Midnight Stars."

   "Ok Midnight Stars." He grinned. "Nice prank, I will get you back!"

   "Yup, and I'm waiting." I walked back in and gave myself some soup. I sprinkled a tad of pepper in and drank/ate it down.

~~~~~~~~ A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER! ~~~~~~~~

   I stretched and looked at Silver's cot. He wasn't there! I looked and saw his hoof prints. I followed them out and heard a roar that seemed to shake the earth under my hoofs. I started to shake but I  kept my  katana sheathed and followed Silver's hoof steps.

   After 5 minutes of running I saw Silver battling a dragon. I yelled out for him and unsheathed my katana.

   "MID!! Go back! NOW!!" Silver took a swipe at the dragon. The dragon easily dodged and hit Silver. Silver flew through the air and slammed into a tree. I screamed and lunged at the dragon, in a flurry of magic and my katana. I quickly defeated the dragon for I was filled with rage, The dragon fled back to the forest. I ran towards Silver.

   "Silver Blade. Are you ok? Please, be alive!" I was beside him. He moaned, "Mid, this is the-" He coughed up blood.

   "Don't speak Silver, rest. You'll be ok. Please." I lied my head on his flank and listened to his breathing. I tried to remember healing spells Silver Blade had taught me but my mind was so jumbled.

   "Mid, this is it. My time is done." He coughed and his breathing started to slow.

   "No, Silver. Don't go! No, not you to." I started to cry. "Please."

   Silver's breathing faded and stopped. I sobbed on his flank and screamed to the sky in misery. I had lost everything. My family, home, friends, Silver Blade. "No... Silver." I moaned. "Why?"

   I stayed the whole day beside Silver and when the sun was setting I stood up. I left Silver by the river, by the time I was done it was dark. My stomach growled and I went to our, my, hut. I took some carrots and apples. I ate them and lied down.

   I tossed and turned almost all night. Anytime I fell asleep my sleep was filled with nightmares. Usually about Silver or my past. I remember a little before Silver found me. A ragged doll, a room and a name; Ruby Sparks.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~2 YEARS LATER!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    I sighed. After Silver's death I packed my things and I've been wondering since. I was in the arctic, very cold. I shivered and saw as my breath puffed in front of me. I saw a bright light ahead and started running towards it. I found a huge castle and crystaly houses. I walked through a force field and a warmth filled me. I smiled and walked towards the castle.

    I rose and stretched. I looked to my left and saw that the strange pony was gone. 'What a strange stallion.' I thought. I started to walk back to ponyville.
