Twilight Sparkle is banished from Equestria and placed in Kanto, a magicless land filled with fantastic creatures known as Pokémon. Without her friends or magic, the only way for her to return home is with the help of a young Squirtle named Nuzzle.

List of Discoveries Twilight doesn't learn from books:
1) Nuzzle is the closest friend she has in Kanto and will never leave her side until she finds her way back home.
2) After the first encounter in an area, the rest of the Pokémon are wary of trainers and their strange capture devices.
3) Pokémon are sentient and have their own individual names.
4) Pokémon are, by nature, brutal in battle. The love she has for her team keeps them from killing others, but other Pokémon don't have that love.
5) She wouldn't trade her friends for the world, but that isn't to say she would turn down free help.
6) Casinos are powerful organizations that run off the black market and the slave trade. She might be able to rescue one Pokémon, but she can't save them all.
7) There are legendary Pokémon that bow to no one.
