Nightfall Nox descended the stone steps of the Royal Guard conference tower after a long and mundane meeting, shaking himself from the recently-mounting drowsiness that threatened to send him fast asleep in the middle of an important discussion. The air had been warm and dry in the large room, and his seat conveniently comfortable. He had dozed off several times for short intervals, only managing to catch the tail-end of a few topics of discussion. Something about new recruitments... retiring guards... something along those lines.
Now, Nightfall was back on duty, taking his shift as one of Princess Luna's personal guards. His duty was to accompany Luna anywhere she needed to go, save for a select few places where she required total privacy. The hours by her side were usually uneventful and boring, but livable due to the idle conversation and chit-chat with the Night Princess.
The two of them had gotten to know each other over the two years he's worked in the castle, and Luna saw Nightfall as more of an acquaintance than a guard and employee. They interacted like two classmates would after seeing each other following a long school break.
Sighing gently, Nightfall reached the bottom of the spiral staircase. His body was embraced by the cool air of the regular castle floor, which pulled him from his sleepy daze entirely and sent a chill down his spine.
With a slight shiver, Nightfall adjusted the shoulder-piece of his armor and stepped forward, making his way down the Alice-Blue, modern-medieval-looking castle hallways, overlaid with paintings and inscriptions complimented by shining gold borders in the corners and a thick, bright red carpet stretching down the entire length of the floor.
Nightfall's destination was Luna's tower on the north-side of the castle, which was where her living quarters resided, and which was close to the Guards' conference room.
The young Guard made a quick stop in one of the castle washrooms, stepping inside and doing his business briskly. After finishing up, he moved to the sink and mirror to wash his hands.
Nightfall pulled his iron helmet off and shook his head, letting his mane flow loose. He was an ash-grey pegasus with bright-blue eyes and a slightly spiked and messy dark-steel-blue mane. He had a rather round, thin face with a slightly pointed snout. Though not particularly handsome, Nightfall had caught the attention of a few mares before.
He stepped back out into the elegant and spacious halls, which seemed to be deserted for the most part, mainly due to most of the patrol routes having been set for other locations in the castle. A few guards would eventually be passing by in due time, however.
He continued his impassive walk toward Luna's tower, stopping several times to examine several of the many paintings and decorations of the tall walls. Even after passing through these halls countless times, Nightfall still found many of the pieces interesting and captivating. Images of historical events in Equestria, strange and unique visuals, and beautiful masterpieces were only a few of the many framed treasures.
Time seemed to have slipped away very quickly as Nightfall examined the art and decorations, as he seemed to have been staring at them for much longer than intended.
"They are pleasant works of art, hm?"
The voice nearly made Nightfall jump out of his skin. He almost stumbled back into the wall against one of the paintings as he made a sharp turn, coming face-to-face with the very pony he was suppose to meet. She wore a dark-blue, buttoned up dress shirt that looked recently pressed, the bottom of it tucked under a black skirt that reached past her knees. She wore black leggings.
Princess Luna gave a tiny laugh under her breath. "My apologies, Nightfall. I hadn't intended to startle you."
"O-Oh! That's--that's alright, Princess!" Nightfall flushed noticeably, feeling his cheeks heat up in embarrassment.
"You are late." Luna said coolly, a tiny, barely noticeable hint of irritation behind her soft voice.
"U-Uh... yes..." Nightfall looked away, rubbing at the back of his neck nervously. "I noticed-- I just-- I--" he stammered clumsily, tripping over his own words, his face reddening even further as he made himself look rather foolish.
Luna lightly smirked. "No harm done, Nightfall. There is no need for an explanation. I, too, have found myself captivated by these beautiful images on several occasions," she related kindly, her gaze turning toward one of the framed beauties.
Nightfall smirked apprehensively, unsure if he should let his guard down or not. He paid close attention to Luna, observing her for any signs of disapproval. Finally, the Night Princess turned back to him with a slight grin.
"But, anyway," she chuckled lightly. "I have reserved the bath-house for some relaxation time. I've completed my royal duties for tonight and wish to repose for a while under the embrace of the warm water."
Nightfall nodded his head, easing up a bit. "A-Alright. When would you like to go?"
"I was planning on heading over there now, actually." Luna said with a nod toward the direction of the bath house. "It has been a long night and I'd like to wind down."
"Shall we, then?" Nightfall gestured for the Princess to walk, holding an arm out. Luna nodded silently, stepping ahead unusually quickly and walking at a brisk pace. She took long strides across the floor, as though in a hurry. Nightfall thought nothing of it, however, simply dismissing it as an eager Luna wanting badly to relax. He quickly followed suit, picking up the pace until he was beside her.
The dark Princess was unusually quiet, merely staring ahead as she hastily strode forwards, not even bothering to look left or right as the two of them passed a t-junction in the hallway. Nightfall said nothing of it for a few quiet minutes, deciding that Luna was most likely deep in thought and didn't want to be disturbed.
Nightfall occasionally cast a few curious glances to the side, watching her at the corners of his eyes. He only now noticed a tinge of blush visible on her cheeks through her coat, and that she occasionally endearingly bit her bottom lip, as though in pain. Her hands fidgeted around every few seconds. Nightfall considered questioning her about it, as it was his duty as her protector to make sure she was well.
Nightfall took a few moments coming up with a coherent way of asking without sounding too nosey or offensive. "Err.." he grunted. "... Your Highness?"
Luna cleared her throat audibly and looked at him, putting on an obviously-forced smile. "Yes, Nightfall?"
"Um..." There was a short pause. "Are... are you okay? You seem a little... I don't know... off." Could've been worse.
He could swear Luna's blush intensified, but her expression stayed the same.
"Yes," she answered assuredly. "I am fine. I'm just a little worn out from my duties tonight. Some time alone will do me good. Thank you."
"Are you sure? Do you need to stop by the medical ward or anything?" Nightfall suggested, surveying the Princess.
"No, thank you. I am fine, really." Luna assured him shortly, staring forward again as she walked. Nightfall raised an eyebrow cautiously, staring at the Princess.
"Alright, then... Just let me know if anything is wrong, okay?" Nightfall rubbed at the back of his neck again, staring at Luna, who gave him a curt nod.
An awkward silence followed, leading into the rest of the walk, the only sounds being the gentle tapping of their feet against the shiny marble floor. Several times Nightfall opened his mouth to speak. Luna's behavior was off-putting, and he wanted to know, as her protector, what could be causing it.
The two of them took a turn at the very end of the hall in front of them and stepped up to a massive, black-painted wooden door with iron borders, which bore two glistening insignias of the moon and sun adjacent to one-another, connected by two horizontal bars that wrapped around each other at the very center of the door like a coiling snake. A tiny opening was visible at about head-level.
Luna took a step forward. Her horn gave off a luminescent glow, and she leaned toward the opening, slowly inserting the glowing piece into it. The connecting bars crackled and arced with magic, and the sound of tumbling lock from the interior could be heard, until one final click signaled the unlocking of the door.
Luna pulled back, inspecting the door as the magic dissipated from the bars, the humming of energy quieting rapidly. She gave the door a gentle push, and it opened with a creak that echoed and reverberated throughout the room in front of them.
Luna turned to Nightfall. "I shan't be very long," she said gently, wringing her hands and peering over Nightfall's shoulder.
Nightfall raised an eyebrow suspiciously, almost looking back. "Please, take as much time as you need, Your Highness. I can wait."
"I do not wish to keep you on duty very long." Luna replied quickly, looking Nightfall directly in the eyes. Her blush intensified, and she gave him a quick checking over with her eyes, darting them back up to his face stealthily enough.
Nightfall raised a brow once again. Thank goodness the upper-most part of his helmet hid his forehead. He gave a gentle nod, staring at the Princess with uncertainty in his eyes. Luna must have sensed and seen this off of the Guard, for she turned away immediately, taking a step into the room.
"I'll be standing right out here if you need me. Just call and I'll be there in a flash." Nightfall told the Princess, side-stepping to the left so that he could see her off safely.
Luna peered over her shoulder back at him, mustering up a smile. "I-I will, Nightfall. Thank you."
Nightfall returned the smile and turned to step outside and wait by the door.
"Nightfall?" Luna turned back to the young pegasus slowly. He spun around quickly to face her.
"Yes, Your Highness? Anything I can do for you?" he asked, taking a quick moment to look back at the massive, octagon-shaped marble tub that currently sat empty a few feet behind her.
Luna paused, searching for the proper way to approach what she wanted to say. "Have you ever been asked to do something that you would not normally expect to be asked?"
Nightfall tilted his head, slightly confused.
"Uh... I'm... not quite sure exactly what you mean, Your Highness," he said, slightly bewildered. "May I request more of an elaboration?"
"What I mean is... mmhh... no, nevermind. It is nothing." Luna shook her head, turning on the spot.
Nightfall frowned, watching her turn away. "Are you sure?"
"I wish to be alone now, Nightfall." Luna informed firmly, stepping toward the massive tub. "Begone. I shall call upon you if I require you."
Nightfall gave the Princess a look of uncertainty, staring at her. "Y-Yes... Princess," he said slowly. He stepped back out into the hall and pulled the door closed, taking one last peek through the crack of the door before it shut, the bolt falling into place sounding roughly with an audible 'click.'
Nightfall stood just to the side of the door, his hands tucked behind his back, looking left and right down the deserted hallway. The sound of chatting ponies traveled from the main lobby and reverberated around the castle walls, creating a droning ambiance that never ceased.
The bat-pony sighed gently, wondering what was wrong with Luna and why she was acting the way she was. A number of possible explanations flashed through his mind; disagreements with Princess Celestia; stress related to her position as co-ruler; or even just personal problems.
He wondered if it had to do with that fact that the lives of millions of ponies rested in hers and Celestia's hands, and that any decision made for the land could either positively or negatively effect said lives. Such a responsibility could and definitely would take a toll on even the strongest-willed eventually. No one was perfect, not even the immortal Princesses.
Nightfall didn't know what the true reason was, and it wasn't in his business to find out. Whatever was wrong was obviously something Luna wanted to sort out herself in private, and Nightfall respected her wishes..
Twenty minutes passed uneventfully.
Luna continued her wind-down time in the bath house, and Nightfall remained at his post next to the door, still as a statue and completely quiet. The chattering from the lobby had died down significantly, leaving him to his thoughts as his only form of entertainment.
Now was one of the phases of Nightfall's shift that he considered very boring. A majority of it was simply standing outside, waiting for Princess Luna to finish whatever she needed to do. Sounded simple enough, but depending on the circumstances, he could be standing there anywhere from ten minutes to five hours. In this case, it was thankfully just a bath, and couldn't possibly take more than a half-hour, an hour tops.
Nightfall sighed softly. Part of him hoped that a Guard would be doing his patrol rounds and would pass by. It would give him someone to talk to and a way to kill some time until Luna was finished her bath.
A few more minutes of silence passed, before a shriek from the Night Princess and the sound of something breaking pierced through the silence like a dagger, very audible though the thick door.
A torrent of frantic mental images flashed through Nightfall's head in the split-second before he moved, but one struck him the hardest; Luna had been attacked, the assailant having been hiding in the bath house. She was at their mercy, having been taken completely by surprise, and they could do whatever they wanted with her.
In a vigorous blur of movement, Nightfall's hand wrapped around the handle of the door, and the young Guard turned and yanked it back as hard as he could. Without a second thought, he bolted in.
"Princess Luna! What's wrong!?" the abashed Guard inquired instantly, his eyes darting around the room, before coming to a rest on Luna.
The Night Princess gasped sharply, drawing a single hand up from under the water very quickly and doing a one-eighty on the spot.
"W-What!?" she squeaked in surprise, shoving her forearms down on the edge of the tub both to hold herself up and to cover her bare chest. Her cheeks were a fiery red.
In an instant, Nightfall felt his face grow very hot as he blushed brightly. With a tremendous effort, he tore his gaze away from the exposed Princess, staring instead at one of the tiles on the floor. He felt something begin growing in his pants, much to his dismay.
An awkward silenced followed for several long seconds, before Nightfall mustered up the courage to speak again.
"I-I... I heard you shout and I... I thought something happened..." he mumbled awkwardly, head hanging low so he wouldn't be tempted to stare at the naked Princess.
"I-I am fine, Nightfall." Luna said quickly and defensively. "This stand simply toppled over, breaking my bottle of wine in the process. I-It startled me," she explained suspiciously quickly, a nervous quiver in her voice, while gesturing to a table laying on its side and the glass contents of a shattered bottle splattered out over a large diameter.
Nightfall examined the shambled mess of glass and alcohol on the floor, the fine liquid pooling into the cracks of the floor tiles and spreading quickly. He made a mental note to later smack himself for his stupid overreaction.
"Oh..." he said awkwardly, rubbing at the back of his neck, still averting his eyes from Luna. "I'm sorry..."
"Yes." Luna said softly, flushing red. "It is alright. You are just doing your job."
She stared at Nightfall, checking up him and down. Not much to see with the armor on. The protective attire concealed most of what would be considered arousing or attractive to other Guards, both male and female alike. It was specifically designed that way so that any carnal instincts would be avoided in the Guards. Many disagreed with it, but rules were rules.
The only part of Nightfall she could really see properly was his face, and even that was half-concealed.
"R-Right..." Nightfall nodded after a long silence. He rubbed his neck and turned to walk away. "I'll just... I'll go back to my post," he strode across the room, intent on leaving Luna to herself as fast as possible.
If Nightfall would've been looking at Luna, he would've noticed her face changes expressions from one of utmost embarrassment, to the face one makes when a brilliant idea flashes through their mind.
Just as Nightfall's hand touched the door handle, Luna spoke again, this time in a silky, sensual undertone.
"No, Nightfall, wait a moment."
Nightfall froze on the spot. He released the door handle and turned to face Luna, who still sat in the same position. Only her upper chest (covered by her forearms) and up were visible.
"Yes, Princess Luna?" Nightfall asked softly, averting his eyes from the unclad Princess once again.
Luna smiled slightly, tilting her head. "Come," she said, motioning toward the spot a few paces next to her, now looking very calm, an expression of amusement on her face, though still harboring a generous blush.
"I'm sorry?" Nightfall raised an eyebrow, looking at Luna, trying his hardest to keep his center of attention on her blue eyes, rather than ogling her body.
"Come, join me. Relax." Luna elaborated amorously, raising one of her arms and resting her chin on her hand, the other arm still covering her chest. "Bask in the warmth of the water with me." She smiled fervidly.
Nightfall blinked and blushed hard, his eyes widening slightly.
"Errr... you... you want me to join you?" he repeated with slow disbelief.
"Yes." Luna hummed softly, smiling at Nightfall. "The water is perfect. Come. Slip out of that heavy armor and relax."
Nightfall blushed harder, eyes widening even further. "O-Oh--g-gee, Your Majesty, I don't know--I mean, I-I'm not--" he stammered clumsily, quickly lowering his gaze back to the floor in an effort to hide his blush.
Luna tilted her head and gave a little giggle. "Yes?" she cooed silkily.
"I-I mean, I'm... uh... I'm on duty, Your Majesty, aand I really... I really can't leave my post." Nightfall stammered anxiously, feeling his mouth go dry.
He was in a state of disbelief. Princess Luna, co-ruler of Equestria and Princess of the Night was asking him to join her in a bath.
Naked.
"I relieve you of duty for the night." Luna resolved without missing a beat, speaking with a sensual, seductive undertone. "Come, you've worked so hard and deserve a break. The warm water will do you good. I insist."
Nightfall winced at the last words. He opened his mouth to speak, but no sound came out. He closed his mouth and slowly looked up, feeling his face reddened more and more and he finally succumbed to the urge to stare.
From his point of view, Nightfall could only see Luna's arm-covered chest and up. He now noticed how... amazing she looked right now.
Luna's cobalt-blue mane, usually abounding and flowing of its own accord, now sat neatly on her curvy shoulders. It still sparkled; twinkling flickers of light dotted all along its length in the form of stars and constellations that never went away. Her wet bangs hung down over her face, partially covering her left eye. Her coat was matted and soaked with water, clinging to her body neatly. A part of Luna's cleavage was visible from Nightfall's point of view, the rest covered by her forearm.
Nightfall was speechless. Here he was, a lowly Guard, being told to join an unbelievably attractive Princess in a warm bath.
His hesitation wasn't for lack of want, per se, but rather because of nerves. He had never been naked in front of anypony ever before, let alone a beautiful, literal Goddess.
Nightfall's hands were tied. He knew he had no options. He was being silently commanded to join Luna, and he was at no power to disobey.
The young Guard bit his lip and nodded his head. His blush intensified; surely Luna could see it now.
With a nervous sigh, Nightfall pulled his helmet off, finally letting his messy mane loose. He gently placed it down next to Luna's clothes, which were folded up neatly. He spotted a black bra and panties.
He peeled off his armor piece by piece, slowly exposing himself to the observant Princess, who watched every movement he made.
Eventually, Nightfall reached the very end; the thick but lightweight and flexible kevlar fabric that made up the interior of the Royal Guard armor still wrapped around every limb. He looked down at himself, and swallowed hard, looking back up at Luna.
"U-Uh..." the young Guard mumbled. "Y-Your Majesty... mmay I implore you to... well... turn around...? I-I would feel a lot more comfortable..."
Luna gave a small chuckle under her breath and turned around, her back facing Nightfall. "Of course. My apologies, Nightfall. Please, do continue."
With that, Nightfall peeled off the fabric, completely stripping himself of his protective armor. He had an averagely-muscular build, which neither classified as too scrawny nor too muscular. His shoulders were broad and well-toned. All-in-all, he possessed the look of an average pony.
Blushing heavily, Nightfall stood rooted to the spot, wondering whether or not it would be wise to just enter the tub, or wait for Luna's approval.
He cleared his throat audibly, standing there awkwardly. "U-Uhm... may I... may I enter?" he asked softly, a nervous quiver in his voice.
"Please do." Luna hummed softly, sitting back against the edge of the tub.
Nightfall drew in a nervous breath and stepped forward slowly, taking extra caution to avoid planting his feet in the glass and splattered wine.
Averting his eyes from Luna, the young Pegasus slowly descended into the tub, close to Luna.
The warm, steamy water instantly embraced his body and overwhelmed him with a strong feeling of tranquility that spread throughout his entire being. He uttered a soft groan of surprise and delight as he planted himself down on one of the smooth underwater seats, sighing softly and letting his head fall back.
Nightfall took a moment to examine his surroundings. The bath house was huge, larger than any room he'd ever seen before.
The walls were comprised of shiny, black marble bricks, bordered with white lines of stone that complimented the color pleasantly. Positioned every few feet apart were cylindrical pillars that supported the weight of the roof and were made of the same material as the walls. Adjacent to each other on the far wall (which was positioned meters to the left of Nightfall) were multiple stain-glass windows depicting significant events in Equestrian history. The moonlight shone through the distorted images, creating an eerie but oddly relaxing glow that illuminated the steamy tub and its occupants, the hot vapor wafting up from the water, dancing in the light before drifting off.
The tub itself was the size of a small swimming pool. It was comprised of white marble in the shape of a large octagon with gleaming golden taps. Under the water were ridges positioned at a ninety degree angle that acted as both a step and a seat; Nightfall and Luna used it for the latter.
Nightfall must have zoned out just as he had while staring at the paintings in the hall, because Luna's voice took him by complete surprise.
"It feels nice, doesn't it?" Luna gave a soft giggle at the Guard's loosening.
Nightfall looked at the Night Princess. She was seated in the water from the shoulders down. The water was bubbly and foamy, hiding the rest of her body.
"Y-Yeah, it feels very nice," he chuckled tensely.
Luna nodded, her elbow on the edge of the tub and the side of her head resting on her hand. She stared at the pegasus intensely. "This was the first time in over a millennium I've come here. Before my banishment, I would slip away after my duties were complete to wind down with a hot bath. Now that I've returned, however, I find myself having very little time to do so."
"I know how many responsibilities you have..." Nightfall murmured awkwardly, very tense once more. "I-It does take a lot of time from your life."
"Indeed." Luna said with a nod, smirking at Nightfall's nervousness. "It is not that I am bemoaning about my position, but rather that I wish I had more time to spare for myself. For special private time." She batted her eyelashes at him.
"Ha-Have you ever considered taking a short break?" Nightfall suggested, staring down into the water, his face reddening even further. "Princess Celestia is capable of--of handling your duties for a little while, isn't she?"
Luna gave a little laugh, rhythmically tapping her fingers on the edge of the tub. "Oh, she is more than capable, but I am not sure how I feel about anypony else taking my duties again," she said casually, dipping her hand back into the warm water and resting her head against her other hand, elbow planted firmly on the tub edge. "I admit that this feeling only really rises to fruition once a year, but it is fairly easy to amend. And very enjoyable, at that." She slid herself a few inches closer to Nightfall.
"I-I see..." Nightfall said softly, casting a glance up at the Princess, noticing her move closer.
"I hope you do not mind." Luna hummed, coming to a stop next to the uneasy pegasus and stretching out a little, splaying her arms to the side, over on the edge of the tub, one behind Nightfall's back.
Nightfall felt her arm brush across the back of his shoulders, tickling his coat. He tensed more, leaning forward slightly and clearing his throat. "Not at all... feel free to... to sit where you like, Your Highness..."
"Excellent." Luna hummed brightly. "And how about you, Nightfall? Surely you must have difficulties finding yourself some personal relaxation time."
"Well... yeah..." Nightfall nodded shortly, avoiding looking at her, his heart racing fast as the naked Princess seemed to move even closer to him. "My routine is waking up, watching over you, and then going to bed. Not really any time for me," he said softly, still staring down into the bubbling and gurgling water. "It doesn't bother me too much, to be honest."
"I see." Luna cooed softly, turning her head and staring at him with her beautiful blue eyes. "Regardless, consider this your first, and hopefully not your last night off."
"Y-Yeah. Thank you." Nightfall nodded, slowly turning his head to look Luna in the eyes. He met her gaze for a moment. Their eyes locked, and the two of them stared for a brief moment, before the young Guard lost his nerve.
He couldn't look at her. The mental image of a naked Luna doing inappropriate and impossible things in the very tub he sat in corrupted his thinking process and dominated over any other coherent brainwork. To make matters worse, his stallionhood slowly hardened as these images flashed through his mind, making him blush even harder. Thank goodness the water was bubbly and frothy and concealed everything below his chest, otherwise an awkward scene would definitely ensue.
Luna tilted her head curiously, smiling slyly. "You seem very tense, Nightfall. What ever could be bothering you?"
Nightfall tensed again. "It's nothing, Your Highness..." he muttered timidly. "Just... n-not feeling well."
The Night Princess tittered, rolling her eyes gaily. "Come now, Nightfall. If you are going to lie to me, you should at least attempt to make it convincing. I can tell by the way you're sitting, your posture, and your lack of eye contact, or even looking at me, for that matter, that something about me is bothering you. And I know what it is."
The young pegasus said nothing, his ears splayed back against his head.
"It is to be expect from each and every one of my subjects." Luna mused. "The thought of indulging in such an intimate act with my sister or myself as we currently are seems far fetched and out-of-the-question to them. They see us as deities with no purpose other than to protect them, to grant them a sense of security, and to give them their precious night and day."
"They do not, or refuse, to understand that we, like them, are ponies. We exhibit and feel the same emotions they do. We laugh, we cry. We endure pain, pleasure, discomfort," the Night Princess elucidated, an alluring undertone hidden underneath her last few words. "We have needs, desires... urges..." she scooted a little closer to Nightfall, until their bodies touched. "This is exactly how you feel right now, isn't it?"
Nightfall bit his lip. She hit the nail on the head, knowing exactly what the young Guard was thinking. It's not like she would get mad if he answered truthfully, right?
He sparsely nodded his head, but didn't dare speak.
Luna giggled softly. "I thought so," she said. "But, back to the matter at hand. This is your first night off, and I would like to make it special for you, Nightfall."
Nightfall's ears perked up slightly. "Oh... what... what do you have in mind, Your Highness?" he asked lightly, peering at her at the corner of his eyes.
He felt the Princess' hands touch his chin, and then his head was turned in her direction. He was forced to look into her eyes, much to his dismay, for she could surely notice his red face now.
Her blue eyes were magnificent and mesmerizing, and Nightfall almost felt himself fall into a trance staring at them. Beautifully blue and shiny, they twinkled with a mischievous light that intrigued and confused Nightfall all the same.
"Would you like to know why I am acting out of the ordinary tonight?" Luna asked smoothly, her hand on his chin, a slight smile on her features. "Why I possess an unusually flirtatious demeanor and am attempting to project it onto you?"
Before Nightfall could even open his mouth to answer, Luna did something that many could only ever dream of... fantasize about.
She kissed him.
The Night Princess promptly leaned forward and pressed her lips against Nightfall's, whose eyes shot wide open in stupefaction and disbelief.
