Just Smiles
Tears To Shed
Previous ChapterNext ChapterPinkie stumbled through the hall, Doctor Silver holding her steady as well as he could. Pinkie obviously hadn’t been walking very much these past… however long she had been here. Around her, other patients shuffled around; some laughing, some crying, some barking like Diamond Dogs – and all of them avoided each other. Not a single one looked at the other, as though they would be hurt if they did. So much fear… Pinkie kept walking, eager to find her only friend in this strange place. Finding her friend would make everything good again. Everything would be fine.
The doctor stopped her at a door, number 221. She glanced at him. “T-this is his room?” The doctor nodded softly, smiling. Pinkie smiled and pushed open the door, gently walking inside.
The room was dark. There was a small window to the side, but the curtains were drawn, letting no sunlight in. At the side of the room were a few burnt things. There was a burnt book, a few normal gems, a burnt quilt, and a small, heart shaped ruby. Sitting by the window was the form of a small dragon, the tips of his scales still charred slightly. Spike sighed, not looking up. “I told you ponies to stop bothering me. Now get out before I fry you.” His voice sounded rugged and torn, as though he had been crying.
“S-spike…”
The little dragon’s face perked up as he heard Pinkie say his name. He turned quickly, ran up and hugged her. Pinkie gasped, surprised. A hug… I forgot how this feels... Pinkie fell to her hooves and buried her head into his shoulder, sobbing. He kept holding her, lightly stroking her straight mane. “I-It’s okay now Pinkie… I’m here, Pinks…” Spike continued to say those comforting words, his voice practically shedding his tears for him. Pinkie continued to cry, realizing only now that her friends had to be dead if Spike was here. They were all gone. Every last friend was dead. She had lost them all, even Gummy. Twilight and Fluttershy and Rarity- Oh, Spikey – Wikey had lost Rarity too – and all of her other closest friends.
“S-S-Spike, t-tell me i-i-it’s not true… P-Please, e-everything has to be okay, p-please…”
Spike lifted her chin softly, staring into her eyes. She sniffed, seeing tears in his eyes. He softly shook his head, not trusting his voice to say what needed to be said. She shook her head to, not wanting to believe…
“What ah’m saying to you is the Honest truth…”
“Sometimes we all just need to be shown a little Kindness…”
“I cannot let such a crime against fabulosity go uncorrected!...”
“I’d never leave my friends hanging!”
“A different kind of spark… I felt it the moment I realized how happy I was to hear you… to see you… How much I cared about you… The Spark ignited inside me when I realized that you all are…”
“M-My friends,” Pinkie said softly, her final web of resistance shattering. Everything she had known… They had been the best of friends… and the instant that dragon… that horrible red dragon… “My friends are dead…”
Spike nodded. “Our friends are dead.”
Pinkie sniffed. She felt… empty. She wanted desperately to go back to her world, where everypony smiled and nothing was ever wrong. Everything was fine. Nothing was wrong… but everything was wrong. Because Pinkie couldn’t smile. The Smile pony couldn’t smile… and neither could her friends. She just needed to see them smile… She needed to see them… She wanted…
Pinkie stood slowly, turning to the doctor. “Take me to their graves.”
