“This is a bad idea, Vinyl.” Warned Octavia.
It was a beautiful day in Equestria. The blue sky was bright and clear. The sun’s rays streamed down causing the earth to warm, providing the perfect environment for a show.On a makeshift stage were three ponies that everyone knew. A crowd below the stage were waiting for the event to start.
“This is obviously the best idea I’ve ever had.” Replied Vinyl Scratch. A.K.A DJ Pon3.
“Yeah! Don’t be such a downer Octavia!” said a Pink pony appearing from nowhere. No one was shocked because she did that often.
“Please explain to me how this is a good idea.” Urged Octavia.
“Just wait...you'll see.” Smirked the DJ pony.
Just then, a rainbow trailed across the stage. The manes of the ponies on stage flowed in its direction. The rainbow trail looped around and came back to the stage, then stopped. When the trail finally caught up to its beginning, a cyan mare was attached to it. The crowd, having seen this hundreds of times, simply stared.
“Well if it isn’t the famous Vinyl Scratch.” Said the cyan mare.
“It’s my honor, Rainbow Dash.”
Both mares went in for a hug, which was followed by an intricate hoof shack. Octavia simply shook her head. Pinkie Pie was trying to figure out the inner workings of the handshake. After three minutes, the hoof shack ended with a hoof clap.
“So, what do you need me for?” asked Rainbow.
“I need you to…,” Vinyl leaned close to Dash’s ear and whispered, “To do a Sonic Rainboom.”
“That’s it?” Rainbow flew upwards, “Just tell me when!”
Vinyl nodded. She looked into the crowd to see many ponies becoming restless or bored. Never wanting her crowd to not be entertained, she looked around to cue her helpers. Octavia gave another warning while Pinkie Pie lit a fuse. Almost instantly, Fireworks exploded into the sky. Vinyl added her own personal touch- music.
“Are you ponies ready for the greatest show of your lives?” Vinyl yelled.
The crowd responded by cheering loudly. Another set of fireworks went off. Vinyl started feeding off the crowd’s energy. She turned up music and began dancing. The crowd followed her lead. All the fun was short lived as Octavia unplugged the speakers. She ushered vinyl to continue with the original show after giving one last warning.
“Oh…umm…well today I will do something spectacular.” She stopped to let the suspense grow, “ I will make create bass…In a soundless void!”
The crowd remained silent all except Pinkie who cheered on her lonesome. None of them thought Vinyl’s idea was spectacular…not even good. It just kind of seemed stupid. Octavia face hoofed. This was at least the fifth time she heard the idea and every time it just kept sounding more and more ridiculous.
“Vinyl…this will never work.” Octavia said.
“SHHHH!” Vinyl hissed, “You’re ruining the show!”
The DJ pony waved her hoof to signal Rainbow Dash to do aerial stunts. Seeing the signal, Dash did her usual routine. This got the crowd’s attention. Vinyl then ran back stage and helped Pinkie Pie roll out a pink cannon.
“That’s enough dash!” Vinyl yelled, “We can start the show!”
The crowd turned their attention back to the stage. Octavia, becoming annoyed, grabbed a chair to watch the incoming disaster
“Alright. You guys heard my plan from earlier, but let me explain the scientific aspects!” Vinyl brought out a dry erase board. On it were badly drawn stick ponies and a basic plan idea. “You see, when the sound barrier is broken, just like in a Sonic Rainboom, there is a split second of complete silence.”
A lavender unicorn raised her hoof into the air. She was going to speak on the subject, but Vinyl would not have it.
“Shut up, Twilight Sparkle. Don’t ruin this for me,” the DJ's glasses slipped down her snout. Her piercing red eyes bore into Twilight’s soul. Twilight slowly lowered her hoof. “Anyway, my plan is to fire my new mini speaker, dubbed the Earth Shaker, into the soundless void and create the ultimate bass.”
“Trust me, Vinyl…Don’t do this” Octavia warned. She kept saying she would stop warning her friend , but she never did.
“Octy, I got this.” was Vinyl’s last response.
When Octavia noticed the DJ pony disregard her comment, she got up and walked away. The crowd, although not cheering, did seem interested in the upcoming show. They shoved to get to the front. Pegusi started to hover while a certain unicorn teleported to the front. Vinyl, seeing the commotion, commenced the show. She whistled a tune. Instantly, the Rainbow trail appeared again. Except this time it was a lot higher and was falling straight down.
“Loading the Cannon!!!” Vinyl yelled as she shoved the speaker into the muzzle of the cannon.
Pinkie Pie quickly put on a pair of goggles, brought out a piece of paper and a pencil, and did some equations. After five seconds, she looked up. The pencil was smoking and a drop of sweat fell from her brow.
“Calculations are done” smiled Pinkie Pie.
“Alrighty.” Vinyl answered. She returned the smile back, “Just tell me wh-”
“NOW!!!”
Vinyl pressed a button causing the cannon to fire. She then picked up another device. This one synced to the speaker. Her hoof caressed the button, waiting for the perfect time to press it.
In the sky, Rainbow Dash was flying at her top speed. Wings flapping, heart pumping, the wind in her mane. She was having fun, yet she knew she only had one chance to pull this off. Then she felt it. A feeling she has only felt twice before. Without hesitation, she flapped harder. The resistance pushed back at her, but she was stronger than it. A few more flaps and she successfully pulled off a Sonic Rainboom. She looked back to see her work, but was knocked unconscious when a mysterious box hit her.
The crowd saw the explosion of colors, yet they did not see the cyan pony fall from the sky. Vinyl didn't see it either. All she cared for was her experiment. The DJ saw the speaker fly into the middle of the explosion. Without hesitation, she pressed the button. The speaker abruptly stopped in the middle the explosion and floated. The rainbow colors swirled around it then exploded outwards covering the entire sky in bright colors.
Everypony was confused. First, the speaker was floating in midair. Secondly, no sound came from the device. It merely rattled to some beat. Vinyl, thinking it was most likely the distance, turned the volume up. Still no sound came from the speaker. So, she grabbed knob and forced the volume to max. Unfortunately she used too much force and the knob broke off.
Out of nowhere, the ground began to shake. Ponies in the crowd couldn't keep balance and fell over causing a domino effect. Soon enough, the entire crowd laid on their sides. To Vinyl and Pinkie,the situation was pretty funny. Laughs were erupting from them until the stage began to crumble. Being quick, Pinkie Pie grabbed Vinyl and jumped of the stage. Her landing was perfect, but the vibrations of the ground knocked over her and Vinyl .
"Well, this isn't funny anymore." Pinkie said still giggling.
"Yeah..." Vinyl barely stood and then looked around. Tree were uprooting them selves, and stampeding animals were threatening to crush the fallen ponies. "Ugh...I guess I have to stop this mayhem."
Ponies didn't know this, but Vinyl Scratch was a pretty talented unicorn. She lit her horn. A aura flowed towards the speaker in the sky. Within seconds, the aura wrapped itself around the device. Vinyl felt the speaker in her magic and began to tug. No matter how hard she pulled, the speaker wouldn't come lose. Then, she felt a force pulling her. She slowly started to levitate towards the device. Before she got to high into the air, she stopped her magic.
"Buck! What's going on here?" the unicorn cursed landing on the ground. She took another look around and saw her friend Octavia simply walking around. "YO! Octy! How are you walking so easily?"
"Simple," Octavia explained, "Elegance and balance go hand in hand."
"Oh...Well can you help me fix this situation?"
"One step ahead of you. I already sent a letter to the Princess. It should be arriving at any mo-" Octavia stopped her sentence when a scroll appeared on her snout. "Aha...Here it is!"
She opened it and read it out loud.
Dear Octavia and citizens of Ponyville,
I should really visit you guys more often. I've noticed that most disasters in Equestria... happen in your small town. How? This craziness is getting out of control. I can't handle it anymore. I have too much to worry about than just your small insignificant town. This is the final straw. Solve you own problems from now on!

Octavia dropped the scroll. Strands of her usually combed mane began to pop out. Her breathing became erratic and her eye moments random. She started to laugh, but then tears streamed from her eyes. Seeing this, Vinyl ran over to comfort her friend.
"It'll be okay, Octy" Vinyl put on her best reassuring smile, "We can fix this."
Just then, the ground's trembling worsened. Buildings began to crumble. Luckily, no ponies were at home. They all were at the event. Vinyl turned around and saw the ground splitting beneath their hooves.. A chasm, bigger than anything she had seen, was heading her direction. It had engulfed the destroyed staged and continued on. At the last second, she pushed Octavia away. The chasm formed right in between them. It seemed to be deep, but It wasn't very wide, yet it continued to grow. Vinyl jumped the chasm before it got to big. On the side with Octavia, she let out a sigh.
"What do we do now?"
"We start with this," Octavia punched Vinyl in the side, "I told you this was a bad idea! Why don't you ever listen to me?"
"Well..."
"Just be quiet Vinyl. The princess won't help us, so we need to find Twilight. She can probably help."
"You think this plan will work?"
"We can only hope..." Octavia sighed, "Vinyl, you're an Idiot."
