Awakenings

The Sun's morning light stung my eyes, waking me up. I groaned as I sat up and rubbed my eyes with a hoof, attempting to wipe away the last remnants of sleep. I peered through the boughs of the tree I was under so that I could try and gauge the time.

"Heh, morning, guess I've got an early start today," I said to myself, "Huh, what's with my voice?"

I chalked up my odd voice to just an effect of the sore throat that I had. I tried to stand up, only to nearly fall from lack of balance, "The hell?" I soon regained my balance and was able to stand correctly.

My hair immediately fell on my face as I stood up and even after brushing it to the side multiple times it kept falling over and covering the right side of my face. "Was my hair always this long?" I asked myself.

I picked my jacket up off the ground, dusted it off and put it on. I hooked a hoof through the strap of my book bag and shrugged it onto one of my shoulders, the bag resting on my right wing. After doing my morning routine I set off to whatever town I could find.

Not too long after I had left I found a river and decided to stop for a drink. As I walked to the river I listened to the whistling tune of the wind blowing through the reads by the river's edge. I started to whistle in sync with the tunes of the reads, weaving the notes into a fast paced, airy song, "Gonna have to write that one down."

I bent down towards the river for a drink, but I had paused to look at my reflection, something was off about it. My reflection was that of a mostly blond-maned (a large portion of the tips were black), gray-furred, blood-red eyed, pegasus mare with a red jacket, brown book bag, and a pitch-black ankh necklace.

It took me a moment to fully realize what was off, "What the fuck! I'm a girl?! How the bloody hell did that happen?!" I immediately checked my reflection to make sure that I wasn't crazy, "I know that I'm a bit mental but this is ridiculous, I can't be imagining this."

I shook off my shock and decided to stop at the nearest town to see if I could find anything or anypony that could help. I got ready to fly: rolled up the back of my jacket, pushed my bag off of my wing, spread out my wings, and took off.

Due to a birth defect, my wings had some holes in them, despite that I could still fly, for the most part, my wings were smaller than I was used to , so it was a bit difficult getting adjusted. But I  managed to fly all the same, towards the city I could see in the distance.
