The Reckoning Pt. 1

Previous Chapter

The young man sat on a box far away from the open curtains as possible.  Soon they would call him to come forth and claim his award for the great things he had done.  He sat there staring down at all his notes, everything that had brought him and the people out there a new way of life.

Day 523

I believe I have finally done it! my research has proven that there are in fact three types of gene compounds located in the blood that grant others a certain ability!  I have decided to name this Molecular alleles gene compound. I have now dubbed this the MAGIC project because if I were to pass up the chance of irony I would not be a scientist.  As I have said, there are three types of Magic as far as my research as shown me so I will begin working on devices to increase the strength of these genes.  I can only hope that these devices will release the genes from dormancy and help the human race reach our full potential.

He stared at his note smiling.  He shifted through the notes he held now focusing on one closer to the bottom of the pile

Day 764

My very hand trembles as I write this I figure I most right something so they remember how the progress of the machines went. Nearly three years on this project and we have come so far it is fascinating really!  I was asked a question I found humorous today.  A woman walked up to me and asked what MAGIC stood for and I simply told her the future.  I still have to smile at that annoyed face she gave me as I laughed.  Well anyways what she really wanted to know what the "I" in MAGIC stood for.  I gave her the best definition of what the "I" stood for, it stood for "I" made the acronym so "I" choose the letters.  She must not have liked that answer either for she throw up her hands and stormed off.  I honestly hope mother does not expect grandchildren soon because the pace I am going she would have a better chance of finding a special someone before me.  Well this journal entry has become more of my life's story than that of the actually project but I think it is good I have not become completely obsessed with my work.  I will say we have managed to get one of the gene machines to function properly with more than one human.  They managed to stay airborne for about three minutes before passing out, clearly the project needs more work other than that I have high hopes we will have the other two done in a few more months.

He shook his head chuckling under his breath.  He was so naive back then.  Moonblade, the girl from his previous note, was now setting in the first row of that audience out there with child, his child!  He let out a heavy sigh looking through more of the notes. Things certainly do change.

Day 934

I am cursed it seems.  My current wife stuck overseeing MY project, if she changes the name I swear I will never forgive her.  I doubt she would do it but still!  I am stuck here at the castle teaching the kings daughter the fundamentals of science!  His most successful scientist assigned to teach this young girl something I learned...around her age.  It is not as bad as I make it out to be though.  She seems to grasp it quite well actually.  I just wish I knew why the king was so intent on her learning at this age.

He stared at the note.  That young girl was probably the reason he was talked into having kids of his own by Moonblade.  'That little girl will be the end of me,' he thought to himself chuckling.

"Ladies and gentlemen may I now introduce you to the man himself, the greatest creator of our time-" He got up from his seat that was his cue.  He stuffed his notes into his coat pocket "The mad scientist himself!" He chuckled at this statement as did a few other members of the audience.  He had been referred as that so much these past few years the man threw his arm out toward the direction of the curtain.  "Ladies and gentlemen, the great Professor Starswirled himself!"
