A thousand years ago, one of the two immortal princesses of Equestria, Luna, was overtaken by a destructive being who only wanted the complete and utter destruction of pony kind. This demon turned the loving Luna into a paranoid and jealous version of herself, before completely possessing her.

This new creature was known to all as Nightmare Moon. She tried to make the world into an everlasting night…

But she failed. Princess Celestia, her sister, banished Luna to the moon, knocking out the creature within in the process.
